As someone using this since the first beta release, I can confidently say, rectangle is not being replaced. It is still better with multitude of keyboard shortcuts as well as options. There is still long way for mac os to catchup to rectangle in terms of features. When you move the window from the small resized window, it gets back to the original size when moving it. So annoying. Rectangle has an option to maintain the same window size as resized window which is so much better.
@fromsergio I definitely understand where you're coming from about the blogger's revenue. but in the grand scheme, I think this is an absolute win for Apple users because of Apple's policy on ads. One time they said "We can't have ads on our apps because we use them too" and they're right! who wants to see even more distracting, cringy, invasive, and downright weird ADS when they're just trying to browse the web? we as humans already get force-fed THOUSANDS of Ads daily and even if we don't make the effort to pay attention to them, they are still there subliminally. we have short lives and honestly, it's way better to take a small hit to your revenue as a blogger than work in a coal mine to provide for your family. boo, hoo, ad developers.
Quick info: Apple Intelligence will for now, only be accessible for countries outside of the EU because of our data security laws (DSGVO). Other than that, nice video man and greetings from Germany!
@Sergio How did you got your Apple Intelligence features if you are living in EU ... you used beta reales ? Obviously AI features are not available in Europe [not only EU]. Do you know when Apple will ennoble them for Europe ?
FYI most of the FaceTime features you mentioned have already been in FaceTime for awhile. I've been sharing my screen on it with live captions for well over a year.
Since the OS update, my free version of rectangle has been wonky. All the options wind up greyed out on the menu a couple of minutes after turning my laptop on.
How can I solve the issue of the arrow keys skipping videos on UA-cam when using the window assignment shortcut on my Mac? Is there a way to change the shortcut so it doesn't interfere with regular keyboard usage? Edit: Also Control + Option + Up/Down Arrow doesn’t work on UA-cam; it just scrolls the page up and down.
Collapsible Headers in Notes, how many levels deep does it support? I hope they bring this feature back into Pages aka for the outline mode feature that was deleted years ago from Pages iWork, which everyone is asking for.
Just picked up my MacBook M3 Pro. Although I used to work for Apple I’ve been a heavy windows user. Immediately installed this update after watching this video and seeing the native Tiling Windows 🙏🏿 thanks for the video, learned a couple of new things which is great!
Cool video, I like your video style. Can you tell me what software you use for your desktop recordings? How do you do it with the angled perspective? 3:35
The window management thing doesn't work the same when Stage Manager is on. I know Stage Manager sucks, but sometimes I like to use it so that's why I still keep rectangle.
@@CleanDesign_ Nothing really. With rectangle, when I full screen the app, it will keep space on the left side of the screen for the stage manager tabs. If you use the fullscreen shortcut with the native Mac shortcuts, it actually move the tabs out of the way and makes the window full screen. You can still get the tabs back if you move the mouse to the very left of the screen, but sometimes I want the tabs visible so I like keeping rectangle for that reason.
I need to be able to tile my windows in thirds, or it’s a nonstarter. I have an ultra wide display and thirds are perfect for browser windows, text editors, iPhone simulator, etc
For some reason it clashes with browser SHow Next/Previous Tab commands even if they are not the same. I am using Cmd + Alt + Arrow as command. ANy suggestions?
You use 1password so you can use other browsers? You don’t use Safari? What about ios, what do you use as browser there. I can’t move from Safari as I’m locked into 2fa of apple passwords app
Since I already had Rectangle installed when I upgraded, the new shortcuts for tiling just don't work, even after removing rectangle. They basically do nothing, although their menu options show the right shortcut.
Password is typically Apple half arsed approach, it can't even create categories, nor does it have a category for software, no and oid or PC option, way to limited to switch from 3rd party PW manager.
So weird to me that they included a "fill screen" option for the (which in my eyes is absolutely redundant since we already have full screen) but no way to make an app smaller and revert that filling, or center an app on your screen.
I just wanted to add you can the Apple passwords on windows. You do use an extension but when you install the iCloud app, it also installs an Apple passwords app. Windows got it a couple years before Mac. Even as a windows user you can still be in the Apple ecosystem.
I still use Obsidian for almost everything. but I've been journaling on the apple journal app since the app came out. Its really hard to beat the convenience of it. Just need it on the mac.
Because Apple released the newest feature Of window management, so that finally macOS can be more like Windows 11 and you can do the same kind of split screen by dragging and dropping the windows where you want like Windows 11 without any additional software just using the default first party software.
CAUTION: Sequoia 15.1 is known to cause Bluetooth devices to periodically malfunction or to not work at all. So far, no one seems to know why or how to fix the problem. For some people their wireless mouse periodically stops functioning. For others it's bluetooth headphones. For me it's my brand new Bose speaker (which worked perfectly until I upgraded to Sequoia.
0:40, It’s great that *"window tiling"* has finally been added to macOS, but I wish that when we attach windows to the sides using the mouse, we could see the keyboard shortcut for it. -- It would be cool if all the keys on the keyboard went dark except for the shortcut keys, which would stay lit for two seconds. It could be way easier to learn shortcuts.
Great video, but I’m honestly disappointed with Apple. I just got back to Dubai from Germany, and it’s shocking to see that most of these cool features in the new macOS update aren’t available in the Middle East. It really feels like Apple isn’t taking this region seriously, and we’re being left behind when it comes to important updates.
Apple Passwords is not useful until it is available across devices and platforms. Bitwarden doesn't care WHAT platform I'm on. I have it on Windows, Linux, Android, iOS, and now macOS too. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, whatever ... THAT is what is needed to get me to even consider any password manager. If it isn't everywhere, it isn't anywhere.

I second this. Rectangle has much more features and shortcuts. But still it's a nice add-on for the users that don't know/never used it.
2:34 the dog in the facetime is so silly and cute 😂.
Windows does have a desktop app for iCloud passwords included in the iCloud app for windows.
Thanks for pointing that out!
I believe FaceTime already has most of these features as I've been sharing my screen and using presenter mode (I'm not on the beta).

Yes, Screen sharing + presenter modes are features from current macOS Sonoma.

can I drag music from Mac to iPhone without a cable and without library sync on in iTunes?
Presenter Mode has been available in Sonoma as well, the only difference is that you now can replace your background in Sequoia, not only blur it.
What do you mean by the Mirroring function not being available in the EU? I just updated my MacBook today and used it without issues.

Why do I actually feel bad for the rectangle app 🥲
I’m still gonna use it… I have multiple monitors Apple hasn’t given me cycling and quick half and third options from one quick shuffle
Don’t feel bad. It’s not even comparable.
One of the few Devs I supported by buying the Pro. Even though all i used was available in the free version.

Can we change the icon to dark or other color?
Does a window snapping have more to second display hotkey? I use it a lot in Rectangle.

Does the OpenCL that worked on Sonoma still work on Sequoia? I want this information because many apps are not working.
I want to know if OpenCL works or not, so I don't need information that OpenCL is already deprecated.
9:44, that's like Windows. But double-clicking on the titlebar again should restore its previous size. Unfortunately, it doesn't do that.
Amazing production quality of the video.
You just summarised all of that in a single video.
Pretty cool!

Great editing and summary of the best things from Sequoia.
I have Sequoia public bata last update but can't see any of the AI features you mentioned. Any idea why?
@ZZZ-lc1fu Yes. M1.
The window management thing doesn't work the same when Stage Manager is on. I know Stage Manager sucks, but sometimes I like to use it so that's why I still keep rectangle.
You can run Stage Manager before using window management, and it will work.

You still need something like rectangle to persist a window across desktops.
Really insightful. Thanks for sharing!
