  • You will have to play with the setting and see what makes it work best for you. Don't be afraid to color outside of the lines and think for yourself.
-- Air compressor = One large enough to spray at 60psi. I use the 2hp 29gal 120v from Harbor Freight.
-- Grit = for polish I have found that glass bead size (170-325) works best.
-- Amount of grit = Play with it. I just add handfuls until it starts spraying nicely. Once again, think for yourself.
-- Spray at a 45 degree angle about 12 inches away from part. Once again, experiment what works best for you and the parts you are refinishing.
-- No, I will not make you a list of parts and where to buy them. Quit being lazy.
-- Before each use, stick your hand down in the bucket and stir it all up.
-- I have found that the holes in the tube get clogged. You can clean them or, remove the plug at the end of the hose and put an inline adjustable valve prior to the hose and adjust so you still get enough medium up to the gun.
-- Creating this video has shown me how lazy and entitled a lot of you are. Knock your shit off. You're grown adults that are ruining it for everyone.

Another idea i have to improve on this is painting the inside of the cabinet with brush on bed-liner to help water proof it and protect the cabinet. Also the blacked out interior would make the parts easier to see in all the mist maybe.

I built a blast cabinet, a lot less complicated, no air compressor or circulating pump, just a 5 gallon bucket with a port in the bottom hooked to a hose going to the gun for the abrasive. The suction is strong enough to pull the sand up through the gun. I used a cheap 1750psi Harbor freight pressure washer and a small wet blasting gun off ebay, the plastic one. That lasted only a day before the water orifice wore and it lost the stream of water through the porcelain tip instead spraying sideways cutting through the porcelain and right through the plastic losing all suction. I then made my own gun copying the dimensions of the plastic one, the water orifice was a problem, its kept wearing shooting a spray instead of a stream till I found some 1/8 inch brass plugs with an inverted V cut into the head off ebay, I drilled the .043 hole through the plug and have not had a problem since, the wear is at the bottom of the V and will never cause a can spray again. The focused stream of water through the porcelain tip creates a lot of suction , the blast cabinet drains through a 1/8 mesh screen into the 5 gallon bucket that has a pvc pipe at the top for the over flow. The bucket stays full of water to that point and the sand gets recycled back into the bucket to be sucked back into the gun any oil floats to the top and does not go back into the cabinet, The 3/4 inch pvc fitting at the bottom of the bucket has an orifice I made with about a 7/16 hole in a plug to keep the sand from filling the hose and clogging when turned off. The sand and water are sucked up to the gun with no agitation. The Key to getting the suction is making sure the stream of water is strait and right through the middle of the porcelain tip and that the tip is not worn where the hole is too big after the sand traveling through makes it bigger, you have to replace the porcelain piece when you start losing suction and your spray orifice has to maintain a steady strait stream as it wears which is accomplished by drilling the orifice at the point of the inverted V in the brass plug. I had hell keeping mine shootng strait before figuring this out as my tip would keep wearing and the stream would turn into a spray which quickly stops the suction making you think your sand lines are stopped up when actually your gun lost the suction it needs to keep the sand flowing.
What I have found is it is not having a lot of pressure that makes it work , it is the flow of sand, with a cheap 1750 green pressure washer from Harbor freight, mine works great. Buy the cheap gun off ebay for the smaller pressure washers buy extra tips use it till it quits spraying strait because the Chinese are not as smart to have designed an inverted V spray tip for reliability, and when it quits working copy the dimensions and size of the body from brass and make your own spray gun. The key is the gun as long as the spray tip keeps shooting a strait stream of water through a hole the size of the porcelain tips you will get good suction and not need an agitator
The 1750 electric pressure washer with mason sand is great for cleaning parts, any oil stays at the top of the 5 gallon bucket or drains off, it is great for cleaning aluminum without wearing it. If I am cleaning parts with carbon or baked on paint I want to remove I change to the bigger wet blasting gun made of brass off ebay and I use my 2800psi gas pressure washer to power it. It blasts off rust, paint and hard to remove things , but it has more power than you want for cleaning aluminum parts.

You should make a video of this set up as I thought of using a small pressure washer as well so you didn’t need air . You can use one of the wet blasting suction tubes off Amazon or eBay to pull in the aggregate and a shorty gun
I’ll hav etc re read you bucket set up because I can’t picture how you have it skimming off or removing water or do you recycle the water in through the washer again?

Couple of thoughts, having all the Jets in one direction will cause a whirlpool which will naturally tend to put the aggregate into the center of the bucket right under the pump inlet, it stacks it right up nicely. Second, go to an aquarium store and pick up a magnetic tank cleaner, you can clip it on the window and squeegee the glass clean from the outside, they work great! Third, grab some filter floss while you are there too or use a thick scotchbrite pad and stuff alittle into the air outlet channel and it will cut down on the mist carried out of the exhaust and keep it in the cabinet nicely. And last, wire that puppy up with a GFI in case the lights or the pump get a little sparky and you are golden. Glad you went into the engineering on the flow vs. diameter, most DIY vids suck at the specifics, it is VERY much appreciated, going to have to build one with all the newfound time I have sitting at home because of this Corona virus shit, nicely done!

Do NOT use an aquarium magnet to clean the window. The window is PLASTIC and the mag cleaner will drag media across it scratching the ever-loving shit out of it the very first time you do. Even were the window glass, glass media will scratch glass.

    • @louconova7457
      @louconova7457 3 роки тому

You got it all wrong. Don't use aquarium magnetic tank cleaner. Think welding helmets. they put a piece of cheaper quality thin clear plastic on it to preserve the expensive glass. Or another idea is on fresh air masks for automobile painting they have stick on clear plastic to keep paint off the expensive curved plastic window. Use until it gets cloudy and replace with a new one.

If you're using spherical beads for a polished finish, you need to drop your air pressure enough so that the beads aren't fracturing as they hit the part you are cleaning. The sharp edges of the fractured beads will dull the finish every time, I'm using 35psi on my setup but my nozzle is probably smaller than yours. Give it a try. And throw a cap full of dishwashing liquid in the water too. Good videos, cheers.

Great video. Most people hack through diy concepts till they work without considering the specifications of components like you did here. Simple calcs like this are the starting point for 'engineering analysis', or basically a 'common sense' approach, and you took the time to do it. It's easy to be lazy and skip that step, but you took the time to do the work. Great example of a good practice and habit. Thanks for sharing!
Side comment, the collective sum of The drilled holes surface area doesn't equal the same as one drilled hole of the same area. It's more of a fluid mechanics concept and has to do with the drag of the flow through each hole. This isn't a criticism, it actually works out in your favor in that that you provided additional margin to the margin you added by choosing 8 or 10 holes instead of 14. Your pressure thanks you ;)

Thanks for the work in making this video. I just built the same cabinet and substituted 2 double bright led strip lights in the roof inside and added a windshield wiper and boat vent fan to move the vapor out . I used 1/2” hot water pvc pipe by heating it with a heat gun and forming it into a circle with the inlet turned up to my lower outlet on my tee fitting. 5/8” hose fits the hot water pvc perfectly. Also pex 3/4 fittings fit the 5/8” hose perfect also. I found out you just about don’t need air pressure as that pump blasts by itself! Nice bikes you’ve done by the way!
