Thank you for sharing. I love your idea of using the bilge fan to clear out the vapor. I am building my own cabinet, and will definitely be utilizing your idea!
Thanks fior taking the time to make this video! Really nice conversion! Cheers!
What a great design Beautifully refined and well thought out. Thank you.
Thanks for the video! Well put together and edited.
Nice design and very well thought out. The video was also well done and edited . Thanks for sharing
If you powder coat your parts, you don’t necessarily need a coarse finish. Powder will adhere to the material extremely well no matter polished or not, a long the surface is 100% clean. There is a powder from Clear Vision named Ultra Clear Vision and is transparent. If used, you newer will need to sandblast your aluminium parts again.
Nice build! Them parts look good.
Very well done! I really like the design of your mobile base and tank lift.
Thanks Mate
As Resto Blast suggested I need to make another tank lift to save my back !
Very very nice job!!, well finished cabinet with good results. Keep up the good work! update us on any modifications you do as well! Thanks Mate

And a CX500 fan too! The Honda version of a Moto Guzzi. The 650cc version of the engine was a great version. A real shame the chassis wasn't up to modern standards.

Might not be the most powerful bike around but they can be a whole lot of fun redesigning them into fun bikes'
Thank You for the video really appreciate
Thanks for the reply. And I was meaning as far as the parts you used for the quick change of abrasives and the jack.
Gary Murdock I made that myself out of stuff I had in the shed
Thanks you im building soon
thanks sir be blessed hi from Tennnessee
Thanks for the tips. Will find an old heater fan from a car and use it to suck the air out. I also watched the guy from Armoury Enterprises, and built mine from an old dishwasher. So far I'm £150 ish into it, and already started test blasting. Needs some better water control to stop my legs and feet from getting wet, but definitely heading in the right direction.
Also, is it possible to use Aluminium Oxide to strip a part of corrosion and paint, then smooth it with glass beads, or are the glass beads too gentle to make a dent in the surface?
@@lordmcmenace Yeah mate the Aluminium Oxide is good for getting harder stuff off and then switch to glass bead to finish off
Steve, Thank's for your reply, comments. I'm going to build one shortly, there were a few thing's I was a bit in the dark about but you have answered those questions, still got to get my head around the electrics, I like what you have done with those and will probably do a similar setup although I'll be learning on the job as I'm no electrician. I'm renovating an old XL 500S at the moment the vapour blaster will certainly come in handy for that, caught your video just in time as I'll be pulling the engine apart very shortly, got the 600 version to do once that's done. All the best.
No worries Justin
Good luck with your project
I like your set up nice and tidy, I am still working on mine however I have a tin shed I want to put up as I have no dry area to work in..
thanks mate tops as vid you did a top job with that unit
Hey Karl
Glad you liked the vid
Hey Steve nice video mate, just a suggestion.... you could make a simple stand off the ground for when you change the tank, just wheel the tank up to your stand and lower it down, eliminating the lifting of the tanks.. nice work..
Hi Phil
Sounds good !
After I finish the CX500 project I do want to revisit the Wet Blast cabinet
The tank I have on now is way to big really after using the cabinet for a while now, you don't need a big tank I just selected that one because it was readily available
So I will modify it to a smaller round tank. I do like the wheel in and lift up it seals off pretty good
Hi Steve. Awesome work. You've inspired me to make one myself. Any chance you could give us a look at the electrics to see how the pedal arrangement is hooked up?
Mate I don't get involved with electrics because of the danger
However I do control the switching of the pedals with an Arduino control board and I do show how that is set up. See the later video I posted on that

Hi Steve, great looking cabinet there.
Thanks so much for sharing your ideas, that media change system is tops. I've been researching the systems and Armoury Enterprises have given great info. Did you mill your own air needle and hand piece or did you buy one from Armoury Enterprises?
Hi Ben
Sorry for the late reply mate
Yeah I made my own nozzle from Armoury Enterprises design
Works great
Good job!! I’m in Adelaide too. Want to give me a hand building one? Haha 😝👍

Hi Steve, your video is excellent and love your wet blasting cabinet. I am restoring old motorbikes and think this would be a great addition to my workshop. Do you have step by step instructions to replicate exactly what you have done. I am going to by a blasting cabinet soon but would love to modify it exactly as you have done for wet blasting and able to change media. Thanks in advance. Kris
Hi Steve,
Fantastic video, well done! I've also been researching vapor blasting cabinets and so far, yours is the design at the top! I like your setup with foot switches and your electrical system is the most professional-looking I've seen. Do you have a build video and possibly a parts list that you would share? Thanks from Canada!
Fantastic video, is it possible to get a list of the individual components to purchase- or a possible wiring diagram that would also assist, thanks so much
Brilliant video! Thanks for sharing. Do you have any advice on keeping the lustre on the parts?
Hi Bill
Once the Aluminium has been cleaned and polished I use "Autosol" metal polish to keep it shiny
You can also spray the parts with 2K clear I think Honda does this to protect the aluminium
Steve, Brilliant video and build, does the pump sit directly in the box, what modifications were made to the base of the blast cabinet? I note you would prefer a round tub as opposed to an oblong one, what are the reasons for this? Would you prefer a spray bar or are you happy with the wiper's? I've been planning to build one of these for a while now an noticed on one design that they had fitted a marine extractor fan which made a huge difference for visibility. Best of luck for the future Justin
Hi Justin
The only modification to a brand new blast cabinet is ; to seal it, to cut the bottom to suit the tank and fit better light, wiper
The pump sits directly onto the tank base I have raised mine 50mm with some spacers on the bottom of the pump you can see that in the video
Yes I am going to go with a circular tank because the pump flow will agitate the media better. In a square tank the media can get caught up in the corners. Also don't go for a big tank mine is too big get one around 30 Lt
Yeah I'm happy with the light and the wiper and the ventilator. If you use a spray you will have to add water then it is going to overflow your tank
Hi just come across your video and it looks by far the best conversion I have seen, great job. It has inspired me to build one myself, but when it comes down to the electrical side I am a bit in the dark. Could you do a video on the electric box of tricks to give more of information on how that was done?
Great video on your CX 500 by the way!
Regards John
Hi John I am a bit wary about putting electrical info up on UA-cam because of the local laws
Hi, yes I can understand that, thank you for the quick reply. Happy new year
Regards John
@@johnmooney2740 You too good luck
me too
Thanks for sharing all the great details. I am trying to work out pump and hose sizes. Can you tell me how long it takes to pump the 250ml sample or some other known volume just with the pump?
The pump that I used is listed in the description see link
www.mydeal.com.au/1500w-submersible-water-pump-universal-fitting
Hose size from the pump to the gun is 1/2 "
Outlet from the pump is a 3/4" T reduced on one side to 1/2 to the gun the other side open for slurry circulation
Are these more efficient than a standard media blaster?
Especially if used outside of a cabinet as a total loss on something big.
Could you install a ball valve (toilet filler) to maintain the water level in the tank?
Fantastically informative video. Thanks heaps for that. My son and I have been wanting to do this for some time. What size is your cabinet? We would like to get a large cabinet that will accomodate most bike frames. May have to fabricate one.
Hi Gert
I'm glad you liked the video
Cabinet size - - The one I have, available Harbour Freight USA is 900mm X 600mm X 500mm you would not be able to fit a motorcycle frames in it I think you could squeeze a bike frame in. Last week I did my CX500 frame using a DIY portable sandblaster I made using garnet sand set up on the back lawn To be honest it didn't work that good and was messy so I took it to a sandblasting company he did all the bits for $120
The next thing to think about is what you want to blast, aluminium or steel wet blasting is good for non ferrous metals you can do steel but you will get flash rusting and you can add rust inhibitors to the water to stop that
When I get time I would modify the cabinet in the video
1. Make the slurry tank a lot smaller and round
2. Make another lift device to save my back !
3. Replace the pneumatic motorised valve with a different valve
Hope this helps Coolhand99au
Great work! Does vapor/media escape the exhaust fan? Will you revisit the tank lifting setup as you mentioned in some of your feedback?
Hi EE
Yeah it did escape through the exhaust fan and kept the inside space pretty clear of mist some guys prefer to use a fan and overpressure the inside space and then exhaust through a port in the cabinet
I do have three other videos on the wet blast cabinet and how I ungraded the lift system please check the videos on my channel
great build there love it. I am planning on doing one myself. love what you did with the arduinos ... did you use 3 of them? Did you already changed the buckets? If so can we see a video off this? and also, what is the size of the compressor. Fot the electrical stuf. can you please post pics or diagrams ? thanks and be safe
Hi Noel
You've caught me at a good time. The CX500 project is finished and I am now revamping the Wet Blast cabinet for the next CX Project
I have gone with smaller tanks and they look great
I will be doing a full tutorial on the Arduino which is only one Arduino UNO going into a Arduino 4 relay board
And they light is going to be upgraded
@@Coolhand99au great, can't wait to see it. btw nice build you did there ... done a bobber build (made a video on my channel to) in the past to. Building a K100 into a caferacer right now and an xj 900 is waiting. so i think the cabin is going to be of good use in the future. BTW is the compressor a 100 Liter one ?
@@NBRC Hi Noel
The Honda Shadow Bobber looks great, nice and low
Yes the compressor is a 3 HP, 100 LT, 150 PSI Free Air Delivery is 310 Litres/Minute
Hi Steve, I really like this and thinking about making own. I have few questions for you; how often do you use this? Is the exhaust fan needed? What are the benefits of having it? Where did you get your pump and gun? And do you like them any suggestions on choosing those items? If this turns out well for me I will be using this a lot so would really like components to last awhile. Do not mind spending a bit but would also like to save money if possible. Any suggestions you have would be very helpful thanks.
If you first blast with the aluminum oxide resulting in the matt finish, and then blast with the glass bead, do you think you might get some of the shine back ?
David M Yep the glass bead blasting will peen the surface and add shine
Hey great video . I dont suppose you could tell me if a 21 inch motorcycle rim would fit through the door of that cabinet. Thanks
Sorry Mate
It would be too BIG !
Would a water bong work with your vent. Your vent just shoots out glass bead mist out getting everywhere? A shop vac and a bucket with some tubing I think will help

Hi great video any information on the foot change system
Hi there
Check out my other vidoeds on the Wet Blast cabinet One of them covers the foot switches
great clip .... actually, 20:1 is the correct # slurry to water Scott from Canadian Vapor Honing Technologies
Thanks for that Scott
I searched everywhere trying to find the correct ratio and did find a ratio of 10:1 so your say dilute it back to 20:1,Great
I did mention in this video that I had made the slurry tank to big. I am going to reduce the size and shape of the tank to a circular tank this will also reduce the amount of media in the blaster and reduce the weight of the tank
What type of cable did you use (orange wire) to run around to the switches, etc. It looks very clean.
Hi Garrett
The Orange cables are two core Blue and Brown 2.5mm for 12 volt DC
Hi Mate,
Brilliant video, i have just built one myself, may i ask what size and brand bead you use for polishing and what psi is the air set at?
Hi Nathan
The size on the glass bead bag says 106-300 no brand name on the bag
The nozzle I was using was 5.5mm Dia hole
The pressure I was running at was 5 Bar on glass bead and 6 bar on aluminium oxide
If your not happy with the way it is blasting try lowering the pressure I was originally at 8 bar straight off the compressor, lowering the pressure made a big difference
Hey steve, great video mate. Just wondering where you got you 5mm thick plastic?? I cant find anything near that thick online or locally. Thanks for any help.
Jordon Evans cheap plastic cutting board from Walmart or Sam’s. I buy them in bulk and use them for various projects. Easy to cut with a saw, and super strong.
Great video. I really like the lift setup beneath for the tank. Is that homemade or purchased? Thanks.
Yeah mate the lifts are homemade
Hi Steve, great build and info, thank you! I’m also in Adelaide and nearing the end of my build. Just wondering where you got your glass bead and aluminium oxide from? I’m having a bit of trouble finding it locally. Thanks again 👍
Hi David
Great job your near the end
Mate I got my glass bead from General tools out near Cavan see link below $66 a bag

The aluminium oxide which is grey in colour came from Burwell in Victoria see link not sure of the price might have been around $90 a bag with freight no more

Coolhand99au Thanks Steve, really appreciate the info, will check them out 👍
Love the dolly system! Could I trouble you for some dimensions for the dolly! (I’m in Adelaide also!)
Hi Minnie
From Adelaide ? welcome neighbour !
To be honest mate that dolly system needs to be redesigned
Number one The plastic tank is way to big. You don't need that big of a tank
When I get time I will use and circular bucket that the pump can just drop into
I will also make two for the two media that I use to save my back !!

Is there anyone on here in the UK that has made this unit, I have looked around and this to me looks like the best or one of the best I have seen. I would love to meet up with someone in the UK or even better Wales so I can pinch some ideas and have an idea on where to purchase items in the UK to build my own.

You can purchase the same cabinet in the UK all the other parts you can get off ebay

If you cant do the electrical stuff find an electrical friend
Once you raise the tank, how far does the bottom of the cabinet sit into the tank? Is it deep enough where it digs into the media to help seal the base?
Does the bottom of your pump (the piece you made) just sit on top of the media?
Very great job.
Hi Chicago
The cabinet would go into the plastic tank by around 75 mm or 3 inches. Really its only there to guide the slurry back into the tank. Doesn't need to be a tight seal
My Tank is to big really. When I get time I am going to make a smaller round tank
The pump would sit on the bottom of the tank. Once the pump starts and the slurry is flowing around the tank the pump would sink and sit on the bottom. I raised my pump inlet by
50 mm so that when the pump stops and the media settles the inlet of the pump wont get clogged with media
Rather than having water flowing into the cabinet permanently under pressure,
Could you just use the suction of the gun to draw water up only as needed? using the pump for circulation in the tank only.
Or will it not be as effective?
Good demo video - thanks. Do you have an actual video on "how to build a wet blast cabinet"? I checked the other videos you mentioned but they don't cover it either. I'm quite interested in getting the components, assembling and the Aurdinho controls you've done are very interesting for foot control.
How much was your total build cost? Where do you actually purchase these HAFCO cabinets?
I would suggest you store the water and media tanks in shelving at the same height as the trolley, that way you aren't lifting heavy tanks (bad for the back).
Thanks for sharing.
Nice of him to reply like that!

Hahahahahaha I cant believe that you asked about the extraction fan Pete
Half an hour ago I was just finishing off my latest upgrade (New Video of the upgrades will be up in the next day or two) of the Wet Blast cabinet
I turned on the fan and it dropped out checked the fan out and yep I think water and media have worked their way into the motor. It was a marine fan with a certain amount of water proofing
So I have ditched the extractor fan and the inside light and placed a more powerful light on the outside
@@Coolhand99au How about a different position e.g. out the side rather than out the back of the cabinet. That way it's not getting a direct hit with the waste air/vapour, maybe on the right hand side if you're right handed, although thats where the door is so it'll have to be the Left hand side or left hand back corner.... Just a thought.

Also curious if I built something close to this design could I get away with a smaller tank and have it still be as efficient?

very nice build sir. im wondering if powder coating will works just fine after those wet blasting??
Powder coating would work really well on a wet blasted surface
