    Honestly, I don't think it would be a terrible idea to end SpongeBob. I mean, the show is being aired for almost 20 years, and I think it would be very cool if they end the show with the third movie that is coming soon. And I don't want SpongeBob turn into a Simpsons-like cartoon. Also, the fact Nickelodeon changed their website makes me really sad, it reminds me the days I spended playing SpongeBob flash games at that website and watching the episodes from the show too. That was the site's golden days :')

    Due to Hillenburg's passing, I believe the show should end because while younger and newer viewers might not know who Hillenburg is, older viewers will be constantly reminded. I also believe that continuing a show after a creator's passing (I know all of the RWBY related comments coming my way), it's doing the creator a disservice. So just put the end to it and maybe, just possibly, they'll get a new cash cow in the future.

      I respectfully disagree and feel the opposite. While Hillenberg was a major part of the show’s revival, he wasn’t the sole hand behind it, he lead a team. And I think it would be a greater disservice to him to end the show now and make his efforts to bring it back from its dark ages in vain.

    The only thing i wish Nickelodeon can improve is to stop making live action shows. Don’t get me wrong, I love their live action shows like drake and josh, Zoey 101, icarly, victorious, big time rush, etc. But I just think it’s time for nick to just focus on cartoons and leave the live action shows for good. As for sponge bob, I don’t mind it still going on for a while, but if I had to end it, i think I rather end it after the third movie, and have one final special episode to close the show. But overall, I think spongebob Is doing well.

    • @segundovargas
      @segundovargas 5 років тому +9

      I don't know. I mean, yeah, a lot of people prefer Nicktoons over their live action shows, but life action shows are and have been a core aspect of Nick from the very beginning. the channel's first show was life action (Pinwheel), its first line up of shows were package shows with life-action segments. Hell, if it wasn't for You Can't Do That On Television, a live action show, Nick might haven't made it through the 80s. Giving up on Live-Action all together and just focusing on its cartoons would be turning its back on a genre that helped it in its first decade of operation.
      And as you pointed it out, it's not like Nick haven't had critical success with its live-action content. it just needs to find a way to do it again.

    • @tylerensminger
      @tylerensminger 5 років тому +6

      I disagree. Live action has been a staple of the network and I don't think they should completely abandon it. I can't say I watch the current group of live action shows though but I feel if Nickelodeon abandoned live action completely then I think Nick would suffer along with CN in ratings as they both would essentially be trying to compete for the same audience. That being said the competition could give more cartoons a better chance to succeed.

      It's overusing reused plots and things. It's run its course. And I actually like some of the live action. Cartoon Network is the home of cartoons only. Both networks would be committing creativity suicide if they both did nothing but cartoons. Every idea would be exhausted and we would have to go on a 20-30 year hiatus from animation to give creators time to refuel their wrung out brains.

    Last year, PETA, the animal rights activist group, asked Nickelodeon to give the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "vegan pizza." At the moment, at a large scale, I think all Nickelodeon really needs is to bide its time until its management changes hands. Even in its current state, it has more than enough momentum and power to survive until a change occurs naturally. So the network entering a _slumber_ is preferable to it being a repeat of, say, the Fanboy & Chum Chum/Breadwinners/Sanjay & Craig/Dark Spongebob era. Right now, the channel’s playing it safe. A tactical retreat. In *that* era, though, it was a full-packed minefield that was actively harming its own reputation.
    Though speaking of Spongebob, I feel cancelling it _right this moment_ would not only not be respectful to Hilleburg, but it would be a flat-out _insult_ to his legacy. He and his team worked long and hard to bring it back from its abyss. Why make their efforts in vain?

    • @kaitie648

      Couldn’t have said it better myself really. Ending the show right now would be disrespectful to what he’s done. I always felt like Stephen had faith in Spongebob. • @KnakuanaRka
      @KnakuanaRka 5 років тому +3

      pichugirl6 Heck, there’s a lot more character arcs to close than that. I mean, take an episode like “The Original Fry Cook”; there’s so much of what Jim said about how Spongebob’s working at a greasy spoon like the Krusty Krab for a money-grubbing boss like Mr Krabs is preventing him from being a truly great frycook that’s worth looking deeper into. (Yes, I know how confusing that sentence is; I can’t figure out how to untangle it.) Or take EmpLemon’s video about the show and the interplay of Spongebob and Squidward that makes the early seasons so iconic (ua-cam.com/video/cYu7Y52iiYI/v-deo.html ); Squidward has a lot he could potentially learn from Spongebob about finding joy in the life you have.

Also I don't really care for the Young 6 as much as the Mane 6, although there's basically nothing more they can do with the Mane 6 at this point.... it's not bad per say, but it lacks the same spark it had in seasons 1-5. ehh there are so many proplems with the school like most of the mane six suddenly being teachers when not only do they have day jobs but they also aren't teacher material. The closest is Twilight and she still failed on a few reguards with Starlight.
      The student six had so little screen time that it is damaging and they regressed some of the characters (namely AJ and RD) to a desterbing point.
      Yes there are good things but over all, not as many as I and many others I spoke to expected. Which made it feel like a down grade.

      And I can't help but find it a little odd that they're teaching friendship in classrooms now... when in earlier seasons it was emphasized that friendship is something unique that you have to build, not something you can just teach with books and tests... but I digress. Nickelodeon is in a tough spot going into 2019, and how they make things work this year will be important, as they continue to shift into a new set of properties (both animated and live-action). I do have to disagree about the doom-and-gloom comments on the state of television though. Yes, ratings are shrinking, but that's across the board. I don't see television going anytime soon (or even medium-term) because there are quite a few detriments to streaming services that have reared (or will rear) their heads as time has gone on.

    Here's my two cents on Nickelodeon's 2018 state:
    Many people are upset that Nickelodeon is focusing more on live-action than animation, but if you ask me, I'd say it's good business sense for them. Why spend tons of money & months of time making animated shows that the 2-11 year olds aren't watching when you could just show them cheaper sitcoms that they ARE interested in? It seems that a lot of Nickelodeon creators are really trying to copy of Dan Schneider and make sitcoms like his. Plus, Dan's friend, Brian Robbins, is now Nick's president, so that especially affirms those opinions.
    They haven't completely abandoned animation though. They've still got some animated projects in the works--Glitch Techs, Los Casagrandes, Pony, Enter the Florpus, Static Cling. Of course, some of those are taking awhile to air. Static Cling has been finished for a year now, and even Joe Murray doesn't know when it's airing, and on his website, he told me in a comment that he's even very frustrated about Static Cling not airing yet, though he doesn't believe Nick will scuttle it. Pinky Malinky recently aired on Netflix, and it was delayed for over 2 years. Chris Garbutt, the creator, told me on Twitter that the reason being was due to Nickelodeon changing their programming strategy, and the Netflix deal having to go through. And they weren't the only ones to suffer from the former. That could also explain why Glitch Techs and Static Cling still haven't aired yet. The former actually halted production yesterday and seems to be in limbo until season 1 airs. Plus, 2018 was a huge transitional year for Nickelodeon. So many top-level people left that year--Cyma (the president), Dan Schneider, Butch Hartman, two other top-level executives whose names escape me, and maybe even more.
    So clearly, Nick has their priorities right where they should be--worrying about who's running their network now that a lot of top-level people are gone and sorting things out over there. So it's not surprising that Static Cling has been on the back burner. It's clearly not as big of a priority to them. But it will air eventually, even if it airs on Netflix or something (which was rumored for a little bit).
    Actually, putting things on Netflix could be good for them. While there hasn't been much flare about Pinky Malinky even though that went to Netflix, I'm sure the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series will get some good attention. Especially in the day and age where cable has never been lower and the Internet seems to be where the viewers are. TV networks either have to adapt to these changes and go to where the people are, or keep their current tactics, but rope people into watching their cable channel. CN and Disney have both been jumping on the former route, and although Nick has been slow to do so, they've been doing it too. Between selling shows to Netflix and their partnership with VRV, they finally seem to be catching on. I'm a little surprised though (and also thankful) that the Viacom-Netflix lawsuit didn't disrupt Pinky Malinky from airing.
    So, that's my two-cents. Hopefully Glitch Techs, Static Cling, Pony and Los Casagrandes will air soon and be good. And once all the executive stuff gets sorted out, I have no doubt Nick will be back on the rails again. And hopefully no more Nicktoon dumps! Welcome to the Wayne did not deserve that!
    That's all I gotta say.
    -Norbert

    Obviously, Spongebob needed to go out a long time ago but the more recent seasons have been good. With the sad loss, I feel like now is the time to officially end it since if it were to keep going, best way to do that is to handle it with respect & honor the series, not just keep it around for the money like what Nick has been doing. A show can continue after the creator's death, Eddsworld is a great example of this, speaking as someone who has followed that web series ever since 2007, the people behind it did such an amazing job after Edd's passing but they weren't in it for the money, they donated the money they got off the series to cancer research. I don't see Spongebob getting much respect going forward but if there are people on staff who do care dearly about the show & its creator, I can see some genuine good things coming from it. I want to see it end but I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

    The only time I watch Nickelodeon is with The Loud House and occasionally Spongebob reruns. Though, I do think the latter show should be canceled since Stephen Hillenburg passed away. It's just that the show entered the Dark Age after the movie when he wasn't involved that much. It's only fitting if they end the sponge soon. They can still make the third film if they wish to and they could dedicate it to Hillenburg as well.

  • @ShaneLaFleur

    Nickelodeon is doing ok considering all the major changes that have happened in the past year. 'The Loud House is doing quite well with a strong season in terms of quality, even if the ratings are down. In fact my three favorite episodes of the show have aired this season - 'Head Poet's Anxiety' (#1), 'Really Loud Music' (#2) and 'Gown And Out' (#3). I have high hopes for the remainder of the season and season 4 along with the spin-off 'Los Casagrandes'. I do admit that Spongebob has done a lot better in terms of quality in the past season..I think a lot of that comes from having The Loud House around..it means they actually have to try and make quality episodes to keep up instead of just coasting like before. Here's hoping for better things for Nick in the coming year. :)

Personally I find the Loud House to just a good show but not a generational hit As much maligned as Cartoon network is(mainly due to the schedule and it preference for Teen Titans go) it has had a really good crop of original shows over the last few years in my opinion (Steven Universe, Adventure Time Regular Show and Gumball are all huge hits in my opinion). I can't say if their live action shows are good or not since I haven't really watched live action Nick since the first season or two of Icarly. Basically, the difference between Nick and CN is that Nick plays it extremely safe in order to get the most profit, while CN takes risks to get people new content. serious, why did people compared it to gravity falls on day one? Cause it had mysterious monsters in it? Wubdydoo, a lot of shows have these. The problem is Gravity Falls was not just monsters, ghost and some woods. There was spirit of wonders and comming out of age that made this show, plus a wonderfull balance of seriousness and silly humor.

    I feel sponge bob should end since I think it’s time for it to end but they should still re run it forever and maybe a movie every so often

    10:33 ehh you got the casagrandes part right but Los is more like oh not ah. I don’t know why I felt like I needed to correct that so don’t ask me 😝 but I haven’t really been keeping up with Nickelodeon recently I’ve been more into CN this year. Mainly because Craig Of The Creek but other than that I’ve only been really watching Powerpuff Girls, Miraculous Ladybug (which I couldn’t tell if they aired that on Disney Channel or Nick), and MLP. Eh that’s just me. Oh well. 💙💖

    I believe it should continue as Vincent said that Hillenburg made it clear he loved what they were doing and I think the shows doing better than it ever did after the first movie
