What do you think of Nickelodeon in 2017?
Was uninterested. Don't like the sitcoms and the only cartoon I enjoyed was Harvey Beaks but you know what happened with that. At the moment, Nick doesn't have anything of interest to me and this year doesn't look any better.
Potato Dragon I like The Loud House but I don't watch it all the time. The show would become stale for me.
Andrew Del Pilar The Loud House is good but something about it just doesn't sit right with med. Someone else I ran into said it felt more like a sitcom than a cartoon; doubt that's why I don't like it, might be an issue of not relating or something.
It sucked in 2017 except for a few new shows and The Jungle Movie
Alpha Jay Show they're at least better than CN currently but they need to quit their shortsighted business practices of throwing animation under the bus in favor of live action when they can easily balance both
Nicktoons is like a hospital. It's like visiting a family member before they passed on. Kinda sad when you think about it.
In the UK, pretty much all Nick cartoons go to Nicktoons and some aquired programs go to more than one channel!

Teen nick: live action sitcoms
Nick toons: re-runs of classic shows (such as Doug, rugrats, hey arnold, etc.)
Nick (main channel): new animated shows that are still airing

But the problem is that makes far to much sense .
It used to be that like 10 years ago
Okay, that will do better with all TV Shows all correctedly produced all year by one channel until they end properly, not move to wrong channels and rerun on all retro and secondary TV Channels like NickAdrenaline, NickToons, TeenNick, NickRetro and Nick Jr Retro with a fanfare and all have highest ratings forever and this will relieve my TV stress and my feelings will get better for it.

I love the fact that despite it being called "Nicktoons" modern Nick sitcoms AIR THERE! It's ridiculous, and it's blatantly obvious Nick gives no craps about it.
like teennick, half the shows they air on reruns are shows that im pretty sure childern watch, and they replay the same shows (i.e ICarly and Victorious) don't get me wrong, i love those shows, but they need more shows teens watch.
@@jdsucks429 not to mention that at one point they aired new episodes of cartoons on teennick for their premiere. Might not be a big deal but it definitely goes against what the channel stands for. They also started to air spongebob on teennick recently although it seems to only be the first season and only airs at 6am. I would think it's a part of nick retro since season 1 of spongebob is old enough to air on it but I think it was just regular teennick (the logo in the corner said teennick but idk if they stopped using the nickretro logo over the shows or not)

@Amolina44 Sadly, that's another problem with Nickelodeon is how conservative it seems to be with it's creative talent, in which for whatever reason it refuses to bring in new creative talent and continues to over-rely on it's old talent.
Butch Hartman has at least admitted that he didn't want to cancel Danny Phantom, and that he wants to end Fairly Oddparents and work on something else. Dan Schneider used to be AWESOME. The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, Ned's Declassified, and iCarly were some of my favorite shows growing up. But lately, he seems more focused on reeling in seven-year-olds than working hard to make creative, funny, classic shows that actually leave an impact on peoples lives. It's like he, and the heads of the network, don't care about quality anymore and instead only care about easy ways to make money with as little effort thrown in as possible.

It is for some shows, yeah.

Which is ironic considering its original purpose was to be the network that not only shows reruns of old nick shows but also original content that you don’t get on the main channel (Cornell and Bernie, Kappa Mikey, The Secret Show, Making Fiends).
Can’t believe that channel might be getting cancelled.
There used to be some great stuff on Nicktoons back in the mid 2000s (Edgar & Ellen and Making Fiends being my favorite as a kid)

Nickelodeon's problem is modernity. They try too hard to be modern (not including Spongebob and Power Rangers) and kicked most of their Nicktoons to the curve. I remember the good days where I would wake up, watch Spongebob, Danny Phantom, Invader Zim and so many others. Those days are over, and their main purpose is modernity. They have pulled it off before, but now it just seems to be forced in a cheap way to make cash. Half of their schedule is sitcoms.
Sitcoms, by the way. They're okay. The Thundermans is a show that I'd rather watch than Teen Titans Go and Henry Danger has nice sets, so it's appealing to look at. But Game Shakers, Ricky Nicky Dicky and Dawn, School of Rock all just seem like the fantasy of a 9 year old with an iPhone. It's so cringeworthy and how it attempts to reach an audience of millennials they focus more on colors and name dropping celebrities than actually being a good show. And there is proof that can be done! Andi Mack is a sitcom on Disney Channel and it is one of my favorite shows on the air right now, it focuses on writing and character development while also balancing being normal and modern, and it works. There is no reason why Nickelodeon has to be this way.
The way they treat Spongebob has decreased, but the vibes I'm getting, I feel like sooner or later all Nicktoons will be acquired, canceled or moved to TeenNick or Nicktoons because of the over treatment of sitcoms and Spongebob.
Why Nickelodeon is sucessful after all of these things is because it's not just a channel for watching Spongebob getting a splinter. It's a brand. Based in Ohio, Pinwheel is a company. They have succeeded with NickMusic, Nicktoons, TeenNick, Nick Jr., original movies and merchandise and games it's so hard to believe that they fund just from the basic cable channel. They appeal to the modern millenial mindset and drive it to the ground. They are playing it safe with Spongebob and The Loud House and aren't yet convinced to being that network it once was, diverse and well balanced. Nowadays, it's a shame when the only shows worth watching are Power Rangers, The Loud House and Spongebob. Nickelodeon is dead but alive in their grave.

KingMCPEx as opposed to being timeless. Like Harvey Beaks had potential. Butch Hartman should give the Go Ahead for 3'O Clock Club transition that from a comic book to an animation. They did CH Greenblat dirty. Watch the Pizza Party Podcast. They ended Turtles On NickToons in November. So they had an ending and a finale planned and aired but aired NickToons. Nick Toons is a channel where Nictoons die.
While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ended on Nickelodeon, an entire arc (which contained the chronological series finale) aired on Nicktoons.

Yeah have to agree. As bad as the Teen Titans Go shilling is (which is actually dieing down and is moderately aired as it should be), the network has a variety of cartoons that are being aired. Hell they release a promo video highlighting all the new shows they would air in 2018.
Maybe its because Nickelodean has always been a variety network as they also want to focus on their live action sitcoms and game shows; but its still sucks that their cartoon line up is having little to no focus. Especially with the rumor regarding Nicktoons network being cancelled.

Nickelodeon has shown a bit of improvement in the quality of it's animated programming from where it was from 2009 to 2015, and shows like The Loud House, Bunsen is a Beast and Harvey Beaks have been, for the most part, a step in the right direction. The problem is Nick's scheduling favoring Spongebob and the live-action sitcoms over all else, and the live-action sitcoms are pretty much a case of "quantity over quality" in which Nick relies more on the live-action content than it does the animated content because of how cheap it is to produce.
While it is true that Nick is doing better in ratings than Cartoon Network, which I don't need to go into that since that dead horse has been beaten enough already, Nick still has many problems, namely in how it treats it's animated programming like dirt if it has any animated show drop below a certain number in ratings, mainly because of the network's prioritization of both it's main cash cow Spongebob and it's obsession with live-action sitcoms that make Nickelodeon come off as trying to compete with Disney Channel more than Cartoon Network like it did in the past.

I think the biggest problem with Nickelodeon is that it seems to be rather conservative with it's content and creative talent, in which it cannot seem to let go of Butch Hartman and Dan Schneider, all while continuously overplaying Spongebob. Of course it's not as bad as it was in the past like how CN overplays Teen Titans Go, but I'll take an all-week marathon of Spongebob over an all-week TTG marathon.
Really the one thing that needs to change is that Nick's current CEO needs to step down and that new talent needs to be hired, rather than continuing to over-rely on Butch Hartman and Dan Schneider, especially the latter since most of the current live-action content on the network was created by him, to the point where he's probably made more shows for Nick than Seth MacFarlane has for Fox. Granted live-action content has always been part of Nick since the early 90's, but the current shows lack the same heart or soul that shows like Kenan and Kel or Drake and Josh had.
Great video AlphaJay, I remember how Nick have like 40% live-action shows and 60% toons. Nickelodeon have drastically changed since 2009. When they saw popularity of pre-teen sitcoms like iCarly and Victorious etc. Nick have so focused with sitcoms that they barely pays attention with their toons. Even someone of their sitcoms felt un-creative like Bella & Bulldogs or Ricky, Dicky, Nicky and Dawn. I been 5 years that I stopped watching Nickledeon on TV....

For me (90s KID, LOL) its something around 40% cartoons, 25% live action sitcom, 20% game shows, and 15% tv hosts doing shows for a programming block to introduce the other shows. So basically still a 60-40 difference, but hey at least the 75% live action sitcom . . . oh shit I didn’t take into account the variety shows.
Amolina44 I remember that stuff too back in 2008 & 2009 with the rise of I Carly and all those CGI Shows. It's just amazes me how much the network has changed since that time period ( also, really hard to believe it's been almost a decade since then ). The only show that's survived since that time has of course been none other than SpongeBob, not one show from that time is around anymore. Heck not to metion that 2009 was also the last year of the Splat Logo, the network has never really felt the same afterwards.

Jupiter Javelin Yeah especially since Disney XD got Pokemon and Beyblade from Cartoon Network(Even though Disney did have Beyblade and Digimon before) and they are doing way better there. So here's hoping Disney gets Digimon back and gets Yu Gi Oh as well.
Actually I do see that they air episode of Digimon like early Sunday morning but for Yugioh they haven’t gone past episode 50 of Arc V and they air it at like 4 pm on Fridays so basically Nicktoons anime block is basically dying and the rights should just be given to Disney XD at this point
Man, it definitely seems like Disney XD is winning at Monopoly here between the three. But if it means that Disney is gonna treat all of these great properties better, then they should go for it. My ten year old self would've gone crazy over a block containing ALL of those properties

I miss Nicktoons back in the early 2000's when it was called Nicktoons Network. Not only did they air every single ended series, but they aired acquired shows (like Martin Mystery, Yakkity Yak, Kappa Mikey), animated shorts (like Leader Dog and School Safari), and continuing shows that were doing well.
What's works for Nickelodeon now is their Sitcoms, SpongeBob and The Loud House, The Splat and Revivals of their old Nicktoons as TV Movies.
Anyone remember back in the day when Nick had not just good cartoons but also good live action shows like Drake & Josh? It seems like Nick can strike gold with cartoons every now and again (Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, etc in the 2000s, Loud House, TMNT, etc in the 2010s) but never live action. ICarly and Victorious were the last 'decent' live action imo and even then those shows could never reach the bar set by previous shows.

Honestly, Nickelodeon needs to stop trying to be hip and modern. I don't know if you watch the Nostalgia Critic, Alpha Jay, but in the episode where he reviews "The Lorax" he says, "fad is just one letter away from fade. And that's exactly what happens: they fade away. That's why it's better to focus on being good, rather than being popular." This is really something Nickelodeon and Viacom need to hear since so many of their shows, animated or live-action, tend to be based around the latest trends. But once those trends die out, so do the shows that relied on them; henceforth why so many of them end up on Nicktoons or TeenNick. It's a waste of time and resources, really. I wish they would go back to making creative and intelligent shows that are actually funny to people who can count past the number four.

Miraculous managed to get out of Nickelodeon's lack of creativity and their last resort was with Disney and Netflix which saved the show after suffering from 10 years of development hell!

You mean Butch Hartman, right? Savino made one show that has it's own semi-unique feel to it. Hartman created 4 shows, 2 of which feel like Fairly Oddparents, one that IS, and Danny Phantom, which has shared elements of FOP, like it's Artstyle, music, and sound effects. THAT sounds more similar to Dan Schneider to me.

Yeah there was an episode of her receiving Cosmo and Wanda temporarily because Timmy felt bad for her, but she wasn't very good at keeping it a secret.

I get that with the exceptions of SpongeBob and The Loud House, Teen Sitcoms have become more than Nicktoons, but I want to see them take more chances and at least make some more shows that can attract older audiences. Cartoon Network made Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Steven Universe which all had big stories to tell and were appealing to both younger and older audiences, and all 3 of those shows were massive hits because of this. Cartoon Network enjoyed a renaissance from 2010-2015 because they tried to revitalize their network by taking chances such as making more cartoons aimed slightly more towards adults but still appealing to kids at the same time. SpongeBob is still popular today among older audiences who grew up with the show when they were younger, and The Loud House despite being aimed more towards kids still has a large fan base on the internet. Nickelodeon also made Welcome to the Wayne in 2017 which was a step in the right direction for the company because what it's trying to do is follow the footsteps of Gravity Falls and what made that show so popular among kids and (especially) adults, which was making a show mostly aimed for tweens, teens, and adults but still be simple and fun enough to appeal to kids. Despite this, Nickelodeon unsurprisingly hasn't been giving Welcome to the Wayne much promotion because it doesn't live up to the ratings of SpongeBob and The Loud House nor does it sell toys like TMNT. Nickelodeon kept making terrible shows like Fanboy and Chum Chum, Sanjay & Craig, and Breadwinners all these years because they wanted to make shows that were more like SpongeBob with the concept of 2 best friends doing stupid things because they were afraid to try something new with the direction of their programming.

Nice video man also should let you know that Nickelodeon's other original show Bunsen is a beast got renewed for a second season for some reason. But they're most likely aired the new episodes on Nicktoons Network. Also Pink Malinky may not be happening for Nickelodeon.
Nicktoons used to be what Boomerang used to be for CN. It was where I would tune in to watch showed that ended on Nick for years like Rocko's Modern Life and such and then later on Jimmy Neutron and Kappa Mikey but then it slowly started to become a channel that would also air their live action shows and become a landfill for their "Unwanted shows" so I don't even bother watching the channel anymore. It's a shame because I remember begging my parents as a kid to add the channel to our package long ago.

Not exactly. CN was 100% cartoons and released no new shows, and tried switching to live action, but the atmosphere of both is the same, yeah.

I honestly gave-up on Nickelodeon a while ago, which is really unfortunate as I grew up watching the network as I'm sure most people have.
i love Harvey Beaks. I loved Chowder and Harvey Beaks is a solid show! I loved Chowder when I was 7, and now 10 years later, it's comforting to have Harvey Beaks around to mend my broken heart.

Nicktoons' original purpose was that "shelf of their legacy" that you discussed. It's first couple of years focused entirely on airing reruns of any Nicktoons (Though it still couldn't escape the occasional dumping of a failing show, like when leftover episodes of Invader Zim aired on Nicktoons nearly 4 years after it's cancellation). They even had some original content, but the channel essentially fell apart in the early 10's. I remember back in 2012 when the horrible live action shows they always aired were Supah Ninjas and Power Rangers, pretty much everyday of the week, with the cartoons being aired at night or on weekends. It's sad to say but Nicktoons has been a trashbag for several year show.

And Nick pretty much fucked up pretty bad with its 25 anniversary on the Franchise, barely doing fanservice the right way :c
Power Rangers could be great, but since getting into Nick/Nicktoons network , the production quality went Up but the acting and most actors got much worse compared to when Disney had the rights of the franchise

It's just that all the shows are crappy sitcoms but I do think there's still hope for Nick. But I still think that animations like the Loud House can save the channel

You said it yourself. It is an era of "dying television" and these are the results. I'll admit, some of those cartoons do look like they are not that bad but these are different times. Think of it like this, a generation of children who can sit down in front of satellite and Netflix along with any streaming service to pick out their favorite cartoon time. Not to mention that Cartoon Network is barely hanging on, HULU and other services are also trying to grab those crowds that watch cartoons. Maybe if Nickelodeon was also concerned about grabbing some adult viewers they would actually get more ratings. Nickelodeon use to have "Nick At Night" too along with shows that grabbed more sixteen-year-olds. I remember watching Ren & Stimpy along with Rocko's Modern Life before watching old TV show reruns. That was also the days of "Saturday Mornig" cartoons. We had to wake up early on a Saturday to watch X-Men and stuff. Now try getting this generation of children to go to that.

IMO, Nickelodeon is beating CN in variation of what they want to broadcast. CN seems too focused on getting money from TTG than actually being a network that broadcasts cartoons. At this point, they might as well change cartoon network to TEEN TITANS GO NETWORK. Maybe after the TTG movie, CN will realize that having TTG on and only TTG is not really a good idea. Also, going back to Nickelodeon, I haven’t liked any of the live action since iCarly was on. Right now, Im just curious on how the channel will be if they remove all of their cartoons.
In short, CN < Nick in general variation, but Disney XD > Nick in animation variation...maybe?

The last season TMNT 2012 (Tales of the TMNT) got moved to Nicktoons and I was angry since I didn't get to watch it there. It was a great season that I got to watch EVENTUALLY, but it was difficult to. I know it didn't really get the views it deserved there, even if I could sympathize with any business decisions Nick made...
I rely on nick or CN because I didn't have real cable at my old place, now I don't have cable at all and all I have is pbs. Why doesn't anyone talk about pbs? It's all us 'poor folk' got for animation.
Yeah, PBS has a great variety of cartoons. It's a shame kids don't seem to watch it much anymore. The only shows your hear about are Thomas and Sesame Street, and Thomas is moving to Nick Jr. really soon. Joe Murray (Rocko's Modern Life, Camp Lazlo) is getting a new show later this year, so hopefully that will peek animation fans' interest and draw more attention to PBS.

It's not really Season 2 specifically, it was just the network's general treatment of the show (rarely promoting new episode, only rerunning for those new episodes) all leading up to announcing it's cancelation through Facebook (which was news even to the creator) and then having the rest of the episodes burned off without fanfare on Nicktoons with unrealized material for a 3rd season.
Though you know when the company originally started back as a cable channel as Pinwheel in the 1970s-1980s it was mostly live-action, before the 1990s a lot of the cartoons they had were re-runs of preexisting cartoons.

Nicktoons is a mixed bag over time. I recall a show called Kappa Mikey that aired for about 2 years strong on Nicktoons (when it was called nicktoons network). It also aired on Nickelodeon for a few episodes and suddenly stopped airing. Also their rarely to never seen series (On Nickelodeon) like The Secret Show, Making Fiends and Edger and Ellen.
I think they intended some shows to be more shown on Nicktoons Network to make viewers variate on Nick and Nicktoons in their watching schedules. Things changed to a kind of dumping ground after they changed their name from Nicktoons Network to just Nicktoons.
Teen nick also did a 90s lineup of shows on the weekends at midnight, so honestly I think they just want to try to get people to watch all of their different channels and keep the new shows constantly running on Nickelodeon. After all, like with Teen Titans Go, I am sure airing TMNT, Loud House and Spongebob make a LOT of money.
