Made for Radio 4 by Bafflegab Productions,, this is a contemporary re-recording of a classic radio play by the late, great Nigel Kneale (creator of Quatermass). Sadly many examples of Kneale's work have been lost - but plays like this gives the chance to hear them once again, albeit with a contemporary cast. This particular story is about a 'haunted' telephone line - a simple enough idea but played out to good effect.
Bafflegab have produced a number of other spooky radio plays which will never appear on this channel, but which I can definitely recommend. This includes fresh new adaptations of Dickens's The Signalman and M.R. James's The Ash Tree. If you're curious, have a quick look at their commercially available output: bafflegab.co.uk/category/shop/
MYSTERIOUS MAGPIE is a channel devoted to ghost and horror stories on British radio, and to dark tales of every kind. I have another channel, MYSTICAL MAGPIE, which is all about stories of fantasy, mythology, and adventure: / @mysticalmagpie-wo5fn

I remember listening to this when it was first broadcast. Such an amazing drama
Thanks for posting
Greta play! Thanks for uploading it.
That was great!
You might also enjoy 'The Road' - it's quite a different kind of ghost story, but it's by the same writer and like this play is a modern recreation of a long-lost production... That's on the channel at present, though I dare say it's on some other youtube channels too...
@@mysteriousmagpie The Road, which I seem to remember you also posted, is fantastic!
@@johnneville403 I agree; I met somebody once who remembered seeing the TV version, sadly lost to us now... but I love that radio can come to the rescue and bring these things back to us...
Superb production. The cast were wonderful. What an eerie story.
There's another play by the same writer that may interest you - it's called The Road, and like this one it's a recreation of a lost play (though in this case the original was on TV). That's on this channel if you're curious.
Nicely done... well-written, well-acted and creepy.
1952 was a leap year, so was it exactly a year later?
poor passionfruit. was hoping it would end the opposite way
You are so faithful in your posting, unlike Harry. Great radio drama from the 1950’s. Technology dates it, as I’m sure there are few beyond Gen X that would understand the technical drama presented here (: he-a-r-ing); though it’s a great radio play. Thanks for posting! 🎉
Warning Slight Details ahead: End was predictable ofc but I expected, & think it would have been much better, if it had been an audible conclusion. Thanks! It’s a Daly I hadn’t heard before.
🤯not for me triggering my auditory delusion s 🙆🤦🥴
