I agree. It would get too monotonous if there was a G4 flashback every other episode. I would want G5 to be its own thing, contained to its own story, but if they do decide to use FiM flashbacks, maybe it would be reserved for specific occasions few and far between, nothing more.
I would love for the Mane Six to be involved in G5 but not to the point where they overshadow the mane five. They could go the same route on how the pillars were in Friendship is Magic. Like maybe our Mane Five will slowly discover more about Equestria in the past and how they are connected to the mane six. Not like a prophecy or destained fate but more like the characters discovering who they truly are through self-discovery.
I like the idea of them coming back as flashbacks. The shift in visual style would help clarify it's a flashback without resorting to the cliché of a sepia tone filter, as well as a reference to how the previous generation was 2D. I'm fine with there not be G4 characters in G5 as long as some explanation is given as to how G4's rather utopian ending led to the world of distrust in G5. Perhaps Sunny and Friends find an older version of Spike for example. The lore that links the generations is the only bit of lore I really, really want to know.
I feel like the writers just decided to throw away the bits of worldbuilding that didn't fit the story they wanted to tell. I don't know if they will bother trying to explain how things changed so much, as any explanation would probably be full of contrivances and would bore/alienate anyone who hasn't watched G4. Maybe they are going to treat G4 as an in-universe myth and leave it at that.

That's a serious problem though. I can't figure out how the generations could be linked in a coherent manner. Too much would have to be changed and the world of FiM was already semi-modern. It wasn't in ancient times, but how does one explain the loss of memory in regards to Equestria's most important heroes? Changes in the world such as the natural weather?

I wouldn't be opposed to _occasional_ flashbacks, possibly even voiced by the previous VAs, but I feel G5 works better, if the entirety of G4 is relegated to an almost mythical "ancient past", without delving into the exact reasons and mechanics of how the "rules" of the world changed between back then and today. After 9 seasons, the lore of MLP:FIM was getting rather cluttered, and not all of it fit well together (or made any sense at times). A fresh start that acknowledges G4 _existed,_ but stays in its own, modern world is probably the best way to go. The creators of the new series would be well advised to think _at least_ twice before bringing anything but the broadest generalities forward in time, such as the three pony kinds. And we as G4 bronies should resist giving in to nostalgia and reflexive conservatism, constantly demanding explanations as to why the Equestria of G5 is not _exactly_ like the future we imagined for G4 in our heads. _If_ a good story that's relevant to G5 can be made of it, the new series _might_ give some of those explanations, but we mustn't delude ourselves that we are _owed_ any such explanations, just because we are so emotionally invested in the question. Treasure the old for what it was, but never let that keep you from embracing the new for what it _is._
Even though many people don't want the G5 series to be 2D animated, if they do decide to make it a 2D show i for one honestly wouldn't mind if they used the particular 2D animation style that they used for the Mane 6, and as for the Mane 6 making flashback appearances in the G5 series, i think it would be interesting to find out what adventures they had before their time had ended i mean i'm pretty sure Sunny will find out everything if she continues Argyle's research.
If they decided to use the 2D animation from the movie for flashbacks in the G5 series i would be fine with that since it was quite good. At the same time i'm curious as to what the Mane 6 would look like in G5's CGI if they ever appeared.
From what I had seen, the G5 series will still be 3D animated like the film. As evidenced by the fact that on the Atomic Cartoons website (an animation company in Vancouver, Canada), there are application positions the show that they are looking for CG artists for the series. Now whether or not the quaility drop will be noticable in the series is the one thing I'm kinda nervous on, but hopefully it won't be too on the nose.
I'm 99% that Queen Chrysalis, Tireck and Glozy Glow will return in the new series, since at the end of friendship is magic, all 3 of theme turn to stone.... Maybe one of the main 5 find the status, and see Glozy Glow and wanting to free her, since Glozy is a earth pony without knowing her and the other two's past?
Well, Cozy is a pegasus But anyway, maybe they are the reason of why all of this happened. Just like Discord, they might've bee able to break the stone prison after 1000 years, which allowed them to find and use the mind stone or some other kind of magic to end the peace and union of all the species

We should also remember that we were told that Twilight wouldn't make an appearance in the movie and yet she was the first thing we hear and see when it starts.
I found it as a way to show a little respect to the old generation, fans and characters of the actual My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show. And to allow those watching that do not know of G4 to understand where Sunny is coming from on her view of how things were and should be, but are not because current events.
I still wonder if Discord is still around , since he is immortal right ? unless something happen when Fluttershy most likely passed away ( unless they figured out a way to make her immortal too so she can be with Discord ) It'll be obvious Discord would be extremely depressed about loosing Fluttershy and I saw someone's theory about him turning himself to stone next to Fluttershy's grave or him ( somehow ) giving up his immortality so he can be with Fluttershy in the afterlife , it is a really sad theory but we'll see what the series shows us personality , I think flashbacks of the mane six would be great for some episodes while still keeping focus on these new cast of characters and I'm very hyped for the upcoming series , can't wait to see what the cast and crew bring ^^ p.s : Izzy is my favourite , she's awesome and adorable !
Discord is prolly living in a pocket dimension heck we don’t even know if Fluttershy is completely gone as he could’ve made her inmortal but they are living in their own world now. But most likely is just discord by himself remembering fluttershy and to depressed to help the new generation succeed in what it took the “love his life” years to build
As an 2D animator myself, I thought the shot was 3D with a special lighting effect on top. It sooo well done! Although, I could see it being rotoscoped to create the effect. I love to see it again! I love how MLP switch up the animation style to show Ponies imagination. It soo cool!
We just need lore. It's fine that the pilot movie wasn't filled with lore, we're not fully immersed yet. But I do hope of an explanation of how the world is the way it is, and maybe some rediscoverings of places like Ponyville.
I hope so. People like to mention about the kids in the end credits, when the Earth Pony's hoof prints glowed. Theories of EPs having agriculture magic, but my guess is speed. In times of danger, Pegasi can fly away, Unicorns can use magic (and on a physical fight, use their sharp horns). But with Earth ponies, who've got none of that, do make use their legs much more. And I think that's where their strengths lie. Bet no pony can crack a coconut shell clean open with just one hoof-kick like an Earth Pony. They've got speed in running, maybe enough to keep up with the flying speed of a Pegasi. I hope to see the Main 6 again in the series, atleast cameos or flashbacks from historical documents
Sunny's father must have put a lot of research into the past, but some notable ponies decorated for their good deeds like Starlight and Trixie are likely to be obscured. I'm hoping the Sunny will study their pedigree and see if she can find out who their distant descendants are. I'm sure Queen Haven did not inherit her title from any princess a thousand years ago. On a side note, although the pony races have been separated for so long, somehow Earth ponies stopped giving birth to pegasi and unicorns like Mrs. Cake did with Pound and Pumpkin.
The early press releases strongly emphasized G5 being in the same universe as G4 - there must have been a purpose for that, and the only G4 stuff we've seen in the movie is the 2D intro and the old Wonderbolts poster. Plus Dr. Wolf mentioned the possibility of discovering old books from the G4 era. Perhaps somepony will stumble across a copy of the Friendship Journal.
Unfortunately Sunny didn't think it was funny since Sprout (the one who started that scene in the first place) was doing something that defies everything Rarity and her friends accomplished.

i think there will be reference and cameos from G4 since G4 & G5 are part of the same universe (just in different time). maybe things of story related since it could help to understand the new audience how different the past was from the present as well the old audience understand the reference and make a smile face, and for both, understand what happened all those years, like the other non-pony creatures, the magic around it, the missing stories and more.
References, I can see. Cameos? No, because think about it, Twilight clearly isn't around, neither are the other Mane 6 members. Else, friendship wouldn't have gone so awry. Only feesible cameo could be Flurry Heart. It's clearly been many moons, given how people have forgot that ponies used to all get along. Then there's the port in Zephyr Heights that's no more than a relic now.

When i first looked at this I immediately thought of this question What happened to the Harmony castle. Or whatever the fandom called it. The castle that transformed from the tree of harmony.
Do you mean Twilight's castle or the treehouse that transformed from the one built by the young six from what was left of the tree of harmony? We don't really know anything about fate of either but we did see a tree in the film that was strikingly similar to the harmony treehouse's one.
Maybe that's where the crystals for the three pony tribes formed. The castle may have decayed and all magic went in there, waiting to be reawakened by Gen5.
If the mane six are coming back in flashbacks, I would love to see it. The mane six will always have a place in my heart. I hope we see them again soon. Long live the mane six.🦄❤️🧡💛💖🤍💙💜
I really liked how they started the movie with Sunny, Sprout and Hitch playing with the Mane 6 toys and telling a story, especially when Sprout ruined the story by adding the "history" that was taught to him and making Rarity evil, it was a way to pay respect to older fans while allowing us to understand why Sprout was thinking that way. I hope they rediscover the past and learn why everything got so messed up, and if anything goes back to the past it's in the 2d animation style like in the start of the movie. I also want to see all the new Ponies evolve as the show continues much like the Mane 6 did, Out with the old and in with the new, but still pay respects to the old since it is in the same world, so much lore for our new Ponies the Mane 5 to explore and so many questions they need to find answers to. Perhaps we will even see any one of the many Alicorn princesses or Discord or even Spike in future episodes, they could explain as to what happened. And let's not forget about a certain trio of loveable baddies at the end of G4 that were transformed into stone, perhaps they show themselves and help shed light on questions left un-answered. So much hype for G5 since the movie was a blast and I really enjoyed it.
These early arts reminds me of the scenes I saw from the MCU “what if…”series. They show that happened in the movies from Tony becoming Ironman to the avengers using Vision against Ultron, but then show a universe with a different twist in the story. I mean if the mlp staff explain the main 6’s story with a different animation, it would be nice.
In the series, there will be more references not just to the Mane 6, but also the Royal Sisters, the 2017 movie, G1 & G3 and of course pop culture references (even the obscure ones).
Maybe there will be a 'Art of the MLP G5 movie' book. I'd like to see a few cameos of the G4 Mane 6, in the flashback idea you mentioned, but VERY sparingly. Id like to think Hasbro would want to keep the voice actresses 'on the payroll' for just such an idea to happen.

I would've been immensely flattered by much more longer cameo of the Mane 6, but I truly aspire that the early concepts out of certain precursors of the old, heartwarming tale, I would truly be ironically dazzled by more lovable appearances of the old previous cast. I'd more than likely want a evoking discovery of the vanished Mane 6 and the actual retrospective story, alongside the modern era of G5.
Most of the gen 4 voice cast had been involved in previous generations, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're around for the new show as side characters or the occasional guest role. Them being available in that capacity makes the occasional cameo quite likely.
I like the idea of it being used for flashbacks. It wouldn't even have to be the mane 6. Stuff like how the pegasi started having a royal family or that Bridalwood was founded by a zebra.
Idk, reminds me of Teen Titans fans pining for a season 6, myself among them, and then the series evolving into TTGo (not bad, but never resolved the hanging plot threads). MLP:FiM had a good run, though I'd be hesitant to wish too hard for a reprise since that can take a lot of forms.
I think this gives opportunities to tie up a few loose ends from G4, without obsessing. We could see what role Flurryheart played when she grew up. (I want to be able to see her be something other than gurgling baby, even if we never hear her voice.) Maybe chancellor Ney Say could be the one who purposed the crystals seen in G5, since he tended to be skeptical of the mane 6 in general. Perhaps, a few earth ponies were seriously taken advantage of in the generations between the mane 6 and G5. This could lead to ponies acting to temporarily dampen magic, but the mistrust continued beyond the initial act of self preservation. Even when distrust or stereotypes are valid in specific situations (with a very small set of individuals inside of a larger group), society has had a tendency to below initial and reactionary choices out of proportion. This could present the opportunity for newer generations to try to find balance without automatically blaming each other for the actions of former generations (good or bad).
Love the art. I would be for further inclusions as long as, as much as I love gen 4 characters, it doesn't over shadow everything gen 5 has to offer. They should be these wonderful pockets of awesome that feel like a bonus reward for the mane 5 and us for following their adventures. If they tie to the plot and add meaning, I'm all for it :)
They're going to have to come up with some good explanations for why Equestria ended up the way it did. In the Hearths Warming episode it was stated that the pony races were still interdependent on each other when they lived separately. The Earth Ponies grew the food, the Pegasi controlled the weather, and unicorns raised the sun and moon. So where now are the Pegasi and Unicorns getting their food? The weather isn't in chaos without the Pegasi controlling it? Who's raising the sun and moon? Their civilization should be in a Dark Ages, not thriving with technology like cell phones.
I hope the main six are given a similar treatment to how Starswirl was treated in the earlier seasons of G4. They can be a legitimately intriguing source of lore that prompts a few adventures without dragging attention away from the main cast.
the mane 6 animation style in the new mlp movie or boom toon would be amazing styles for g5, but it is a very lengthy process, and it is difficult to be constantly making new episodes in those styles. as much as I would love to see the g5 series in that style, it just isn’t probable. I actually don’t know if they are going to do 3d animation or 2d, but I hope that they choose an appealing 2d style.
Considering the advancement in technology in the movie I have an actual idea for something they could do for an episode: Pipp let’s Sunny know about a new trend that’s sweeping social media. A cartoon show based off of the mane six. And while at first Sunny would be ecstatic about such an idea when she actually watches some of the show, she starts to get a little upset because some of the episodes have bad morals. Like the other members of the mane six “ learn“ that if you want to tell Pinky pie or apple jacks something you have to use small words. Unicorns wearing tennis balls on their horns is not only “necessary” but fashionable. And of course that Pegasi are practically perfect in every way. All leading to the main characters finding out that the creator of the show, Is the Pegasus reincarnation equivalent of the flimflam Brothers. Mainly intending the show to be a vehicle to start selling toys and merchandise. But the key thing is, some of the stuff they show in the videos correlates with Sunny’s Dad’s research. Leading them to discover that the salesman got the idea for the whole thing from one of the mane six journals, or some other book. They just felt that some of the lessons in the books needed tweaking to reflect today’s modern culture. But the book could itself be a vehicle for some adventures and figuring out some of the mysteries.
I’m not surprised that Equestria broken up. Even one of my fanfic alicorm said, “One century, your friends, and the next century, your enemies. What’s the point of yout efforts, Princess?” It happened a lot in our own history too. I’m more curious about the changelings right now. What would they do without Thorax? And is Crystalis back or not?
I would rather prefer we focus on G5, but I wouldn't personally mind flashbacks or maybe singular episodes dedicated to figuring out why Twilight and the others were forgotten by Equestria, perhaps even some relics dedicated to them maybe referencing them but not directly making them the center focus, like maybe a copy of The Friendship Journal or the Tree of Harmony, even a reference to the Pillars would be nice
When I saw that part seeing the main 6 in the new art style form in this movie but and I know they’re not the main characters of this new movie rather only appear as cameos but rarity I never seen her act like that before and I was like wow that was different
For the G4 flashbacks in the series, i reckon they will show said flashbacks when Sunny & her friends find something related to G4, with Sunny narrating them.

For those who don't know what happened to Canterlot, Zephyr Heights IS Canterlot. We just need to find out what happened to Ponyville, Everfree Forest (Not Bridlewood since that is actually Whitetail Woods), Manehattan, Cloudsdale, Appleloosa & of course, the secret crystal city. We also need to know what happened to those living outside Equestria.
I really want gen 5 to learn the history of gen 4. One my favorite scenes in the movie is zip looking at the old Wonderbolts poster. Like a piece of her was missing and she wanted to learn more. And if it could be reimagined in this animation it be perfect.
I just had a crazy but funny thought... What if there was a time-travel episode where G5s Mane-5 go back in time to meet G4s Mane-6 and the Mane-6 end up visiting G5's era... and what if all that basically, accidentally caused all the problems that lead up to the loss of magic, etc in the first place or something..?
On the third watch of the movie I realise that Sunnis dad looks a lot like twilight sparkle. With the same colours in his hair and the same coloured skin. I believe that hear something along the lines of the grandson of twilight sparkle and that he married someone that looks like sunny to have her. It’s also means Twilight would probably have to married an earth pony.
I would like to see what the dragons and changelings and hippogryphs and griffons and yaks and sea ponies and breezies and all the other non pony races that have yet to be explored and the fantastic creatures and mythical beasts both sentient or just fauna might look like in the new my little pony g5 series
This art is so beautiful. I hope they do make references to the Mane Six in the G5 series, that would be awesome. The opening of the movie is awesome, so they might do something similar in the series. We will have to wait and see.
Maybe there could be a crossover or team up, like how Power Rangers used to bring the team from last year back for an episode or two. But most likely it'll be like what we saw at the beginning of the movie, quick little cameos. At best, they might use them to help bridge the gap between the end of G4 and the start of G5.
It would have to be exceedingly rare or re imagining / setting up new lore. I think treating the mane 6 or even the student six in a similar way to how Gusty the Great, Clover the Clever or Starswirl the Bearded (in earlier seasons) where treated. Setting up the '1000 years ago' pre-plot for the G5 ponies to solve, or perhaps even setting up new "ancient wizards or warriors" that lived during the rule of princess twilight. As much as I love G4 and as excited I would be if they brought back deep cut magical items like the alicorn amulet or something, G5 does need it own space to breathe inorder to fill its potential lest it feel like G4 the extended edition.
I would love to know how far back ancient Equestria was as referred to in the beginning of the G5 movie. I also think that it would be great to learn how things became the way they were and have some occasional flashbacks of the main six and how or what they left behind for our new ponies to find!
I to hope, we got a *proper explanation* why things went so wrong in Equestria (which amounts to more than just 'Twilight was to inactive as a queen' or 'she put her trust in the wrong student', because this would really be betrail to her character devolpment). So I couldn't see this done without a few flash backs here and there. But maybe they should focus more on the time between Twilight's retirement/death and Sunny's (and the other members of the new main 5) birth, because what ever has happend, happend in this time, correct? *(Hasbro you better don't say no to this idea! 😡)*
Since there’s a series coming for the new generation and now sunny is an alicorn here is my theory: Every episode her and the gang, occasionally only some members of the gang like how only fluttershy and applejack went to visit the Kirin, they will learn a lesson then have a flashback of the main 6 learning the same lesson or a similar lesson. Eventually they’re gonna learn an big lesson and then uncover a big secret. Perhaps they’ll find discord in stone and release him on accident. Or they’ll find discord- and the main 6 in stone. They mentioned discord in the danger danger (Angry mob) song. They didn’t mean discord as the creature of course but still. They could’ve used another word- but no. They chose discord specifically. Discord cannot die. Not from old age and what we know of him atleast. Because of course we don’t know everything about him. We don’t know if he was created on accident (Sawtooth reference) or he was apart of a species that somehow died off; or fled somewhere else, or if he even has a human counterpart. Perhaps he could be living as an animal similar to spike in the human world. Perhaps he could be a literal monster. Perhaps he is stuck in stone (AGAIN). But of course we don’t know everything. So who knows this theory might be completely wrong! But this is just a theory. A theory from your neighborhood brony! 🐎
A few of the concept art I saw sports the idea of the main 6 returning. Even some familiar locations. Also I want to point out. I commented on another video(not my own) about the fact magic stones were well known in equestria. And a few concepts pics sports that. (CALLED IT)
We know that at least pinky pie had kids and applejacks brother (I don’t know how to spell his name) had a kid too so there is potential for sunny and the g5 characters to try to find out more about the main six by finding their families. So even if everyone has passed away there could still be a connection and twilight and the other alicorns could have went to the crystal empire to “hide” from the pony races. Because if ponies are gonna be scared and think the others are disgusting and such like that I can’t imagine how they would feel about alicorns that have both wings and a horn. And unless that rain boom made it all the way to the crystal empire whoever is there wouldn’t know it’s ok to come back.
Oh I would personally be fixated on the old and the new so will basically be 50\50. And I would be all for cameos and flashbacks of G4 and hopefully explain how when and where the damn crystal came from
it would be interesting if sunny found all of twilight and celestias letters! also i know this is a different generation but id love to see them bring discord back, since he technically is immortal
The beginning of the A New Generation movie had me smiling the entire time. If we can get flashback scenes in that animation style with the original cast, that would be awesome.
To be honest I love Mane 6 so much and will miss them :( Though I’m so excited when I saw them in the new movie just for a brief moment, it’s nice to know they haven’t completely forgotten or anything. It’s cool and I would love to see some small flashbacks or Easter eggs like they did in the movie! So far my favorite is Izzy. When I saw the movie I immediately thought of Hitch playing the fluttershy role cause of how animals are always besides him xD despite that, some people think he’s the kindness element
the flashback thing would be really cute but i do hope they're not depending on it all too much. i loved some of the previous generation references like the "gusty the great" story in g4, but if g5 leans too heavily on fim i can imagine that'd kind of defeat the purpose of it like, introducing new people to mlp haha
I liked that they put the mane 6 in the movie even though it was just that little bit it was hilarious and cool, and I hope they at least do something similar in the series. At the very least a few callbacks or cameos would be cool.just imagine pinkie pie just stopping a episode and breaking the fourth wall for a bit.
I wonder how they will reintroduce G5 after the movie if they don't have to do the Elements of Harmony angle. I wonder how the episodes will be structured. Will it be arc-centric all about adventuring and discovering new places, while also stumbling over some of the old, or will there be a lot of slice of life, and even unnecessary filler episodes?
I'd love an episode where sunny either fines twilights time spell or discord potion to either meet or see the main six and find out what happened to cause the big divide between the three races and what happened to all the other magical races like like the changelings dragons or yaks Heck I'd love an episode where to help sunny plan a party to celebrate the reformed friendships pip and izzy finds pinkies party cave and the old carousel Boutique with some of rarity design notes in the ruins of old ponyville
I guess they did set a precedent for Art Shift in the movie, so they may as well do the same in the series if they need it. It could be like the story of the two sisters from the very first scene in MLP:FiM. But keep in mind that the series probably won't be animated in the same style as the movie, since it would be too expensive. So they might have to change this flashback style as well to make things fit well together. On a semi-related note, I hope they do an homage to the felt stop-motion bit from A Friend In Deed at some point, maybe with macaroni instead of felt. I think it fits Izzy's character even more than Pinkie.
Crazy theory, but I believe that we will see the Mane Six in the G5 show and not just in flashbacks. I think somehow we'll actually get a team up with the Mane Six and the Mane Five.
As long as G5 focuses on its own unique storyline and characters, I wouldn't mind a cameo or flashback once in awhile.

I agree. It would get too monotonous if there was a G4 flashback every other episode. I would want G5 to be its own thing, contained to its own story, but if they do decide to use FiM flashbacks, maybe it would be reserved for specific occasions few and far between, nothing more.
I do know the first and episodes of season 1 might have cameos of the main 6 but that's my opinion
I would love for the Mane Six to be involved in G5 but not to the point where they overshadow the mane five. They could go the same route on how the pillars were in Friendship is Magic. Like maybe our Mane Five will slowly discover more about Equestria in the past and how they are connected to the mane six. Not like a prophecy or destained fate but more like the characters discovering who they truly are through self-discovery.

I like the idea of them coming back as flashbacks. The shift in visual style would help clarify it's a flashback without resorting to the cliché of a sepia tone filter, as well as a reference to how the previous generation was 2D.
I'm fine with there not be G4 characters in G5 as long as some explanation is given as to how G4's rather utopian ending led to the world of distrust in G5. Perhaps Sunny and Friends find an older version of Spike for example.
The lore that links the generations is the only bit of lore I really, really want to know.
I feel like the writers just decided to throw away the bits of worldbuilding that didn't fit the story they wanted to tell. I don't know if they will bother trying to explain how things changed so much, as any explanation would probably be full of contrivances and would bore/alienate anyone who hasn't watched G4. Maybe they are going to treat G4 as an in-universe myth and leave it at that.

That's a serious problem though. I can't figure out how the generations could be linked in a coherent manner. Too much would have to be changed and the world of FiM was already semi-modern. It wasn't in ancient times, but how does one explain the loss of memory in regards to Equestria's most important heroes? Changes in the world such as the natural weather?

I wouldn't be opposed to _occasional_ flashbacks, possibly even voiced by the previous VAs, but I feel G5 works better, if the entirety of G4 is relegated to an almost mythical "ancient past", without delving into the exact reasons and mechanics of how the "rules" of the world changed between back then and today.
After 9 seasons, the lore of MLP:FIM was getting rather cluttered, and not all of it fit well together (or made any sense at times). A fresh start that acknowledges G4 _existed,_ but stays in its own, modern world is probably the best way to go. The creators of the new series would be well advised to think _at least_ twice before bringing anything but the broadest generalities forward in time, such as the three pony kinds. And we as G4 bronies should resist giving in to nostalgia and reflexive conservatism, constantly demanding explanations as to why the Equestria of G5 is not _exactly_ like the future we imagined for G4 in our heads. _If_ a good story that's relevant to G5 can be made of it, the new series _might_ give some of those explanations, but we mustn't delude ourselves that we are _owed_ any such explanations, just because we are so emotionally invested in the question.
Treasure the old for what it was, but never let that keep you from embracing the new for what it _is._

Even though many people don't want the G5 series to be 2D animated, if they do decide to make it a 2D show i for one honestly wouldn't mind if they used the particular 2D animation style that they used for the Mane 6, and as for the Mane 6 making flashback appearances in the G5 series, i think it would be interesting to find out what adventures they had before their time had ended i mean i'm pretty sure Sunny will find out everything if she continues Argyle's research.
If they decided to use the 2D animation from the movie for flashbacks in the G5 series i would be fine with that since it was quite good. At the same time i'm curious as to what the Mane 6 would look like in G5's CGI if they ever appeared.

From what I had seen, the G5 series will still be 3D animated like the film. As evidenced by the fact that on the Atomic Cartoons website (an animation company in Vancouver, Canada), there are application positions the show that they are looking for CG artists for the series. Now whether or not the quaility drop will be noticable in the series is the one thing I'm kinda nervous on, but hopefully it won't be too on the nose.

I found it as a way to show a little respect to the old generation, fans and characters of the actual My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show. And to allow those watching that do not know of G4 to understand where Sunny is coming from on her view of how things were and should be, but are not because current events.
I hope there is a flashback episode about how the pony species split apart using this style.
I still wonder if Discord is still around , since he is immortal right ? unless something happen when Fluttershy most likely passed away ( unless they figured out a way to make her immortal too so she can be with Discord ) It'll be obvious Discord would be extremely depressed about loosing Fluttershy and I saw someone's theory about him turning himself to stone next to Fluttershy's grave or him ( somehow ) giving up his immortality so he can be with Fluttershy in the afterlife , it is a really sad theory but we'll see what the series shows us
personality , I think flashbacks of the mane six would be great for some episodes while still keeping focus on these new cast of characters

Discord is prolly living in a pocket dimension heck we don’t even know if Fluttershy is completely gone as he could’ve made her inmortal but they are living in their own world now. As an 2D animator myself, I thought the shot was 3D with a special lighting effect on top. It sooo well done! Although, I could see it being rotoscoped to create the effect. I love to see it again! I love how MLP switch up the animation style to show Ponies imagination. It soo cool!
We just need lore. It's fine that the pilot movie wasn't filled with lore, we're not fully immersed yet. But I do hope of an explanation of how the world is the way it is, and maybe some rediscoverings of places like Ponyville.

In times of danger, Pegasi can fly away, Unicorns can use magic (and on a physical fight, use their sharp horns). But with Earth ponies, who've got none of that, do make use their legs much more. And I think that's where their strengths lie.
Bet no pony can crack a coconut shell clean open with just one hoof-kick like an Earth Pony. They've got speed in running, maybe enough to keep up with the flying speed of a Pegasi.

Sunny's father must have put a lot of research into the past, but some notable ponies decorated for their good deeds like Starlight and Trixie are likely to be obscured. I'm hoping the Sunny will study their pedigree and see if she can find out who their distant descendants are. I'm sure Queen Haven did not inherit her title from any princess a thousand years ago. On a side note, although the pony races have been separated for so long, somehow Earth ponies stopped giving birth to pegasi and unicorns like Mrs. Cake did with Pound and Pumpkin.

The early press releases strongly emphasized G5 being in the same universe as G4 - there must have been a purpose for that, and the only G4 stuff we've seen in the movie is the 2D intro and the old Wonderbolts poster. Plus Dr. Wolf mentioned the possibility of discovering old books from the G4 era. Perhaps somepony will stumble across a copy of the Friendship Journal.

maybe things of story related since it could help to understand the new audience how different the past was from the present as well the old audience understand the reference and make a smile face, and for both, understand what happened all those years, like the other non-pony creatures, the magic around it, the missing stories and more.
References, I can see. Cameos? No, because think about it, Twilight clearly isn't around, neither are the other Mane 6 members. Else, friendship wouldn't have gone so awry. Only feesible cameo could be Flurry Heart. It's clearly been many moons, given how people have forgot that ponies used to all get along. Then there's the port in Zephyr Heights that's no more than a relic now.

I really liked how they started the movie with Sunny, Sprout and Hitch playing with the Mane 6 toys and telling a story, especially when Sprout ruined the story by adding the "history" that was taught to him and making Rarity evil, it was a way to pay respect to older fans while allowing us to understand why Sprout was thinking that way. I hope they rediscover the past and learn why everything got so messed up, and if anything goes back to the past it's in the 2d animation style like in the start of the movie. I also want to see all the new Ponies evolve as the show continues much like the Mane 6 did, Out with the old and in with the new, but still pay respects to the old since it is in the same world, so much lore for our new Ponies the Mane 5 to explore and so many questions they need to find answers to. Perhaps we will even see any one of the many Alicorn princesses or Discord or even Spike in future episodes, they could explain as to what happened. And let's not forget about a certain trio of loveable baddies at the end of G4 that were transformed into stone, perhaps they show themselves and help shed light on questions left un-answered. So much hype for G5 since the movie was a blast and I really enjoyed it.

These early arts reminds me of the scenes I saw from the MCU “what if…”series. They show that happened in the movies from Tony becoming Ironman to the avengers using Vision against Ultron, but then show a universe with a different twist in the story. I mean if the mlp staff explain the main 6’s story with a different animation, it would be nice.
I love the soft artsyle and hope they keep that model for the show itself. It's a bit new yet classic.

I would've been immensely flattered by much more longer cameo of the Mane 6, but I truly aspire that the early concepts out of certain precursors of the old, heartwarming tale, I would truly be ironically dazzled by more lovable appearances of the old previous cast.

Most of the gen 4 voice cast had been involved in previous generations, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're around for the new show as side characters or the occasional guest role. Them being available in that capacity makes the occasional cameo quite likely.
I like the idea of it being used for flashbacks. It wouldn't even have to be the mane 6. Stuff like how the pegasi started having a royal family or that Bridalwood was founded by a zebra.
Idk, reminds me of Teen Titans fans pining for a season 6, myself among them, and then the series evolving into TTGo (not bad, but never resolved the hanging plot threads). MLP:FiM had a good run, though I'd be hesitant to wish too hard for a reprise since that can take a lot of forms.
I think this gives opportunities to tie up a few loose ends from G4, without obsessing. We could see what role Flurryheart played when she grew up. (I want to be able to see her be something other than gurgling baby, even if we never hear her voice.) Maybe chancellor Ney Say could be the one who purposed the crystals seen in G5, since he tended to be skeptical of the mane 6 in general. Perhaps, a few earth ponies were seriously taken advantage of in the generations between the mane 6 and G5. This could lead to ponies acting to temporarily dampen magic, but the mistrust continued beyond the initial act of self preservation. Even when distrust or stereotypes are valid in specific situations (with a very small set of individuals inside of a larger group), society has had a tendency to below initial and reactionary choices out of proportion. This could present the opportunity for newer generations to try to find balance without automatically blaming each other for the actions of former generations (good or bad).

Love the art. I would be for further inclusions as long as, as much as I love gen 4 characters, it doesn't over shadow everything gen 5 has to offer. They should be these wonderful pockets of awesome that feel like a bonus reward for the mane 5 and us for following their adventures. If they tie to the plot and add meaning, I'm all for it :)

They're going to have to come up with some good explanations for why Equestria ended up the way it did. In the Hearths Warming episode it was stated that the pony races were still interdependent on each other when they lived separately. The Earth Ponies grew the food, the Pegasi controlled the weather, and unicorns raised the sun and moon. So where now are the Pegasi and Unicorns getting their food? The weather isn't in chaos without the Pegasi controlling it? Who's raising the sun and moon? Their civilization should be in a Dark Ages, not thriving with technology like cell phones.
Weren't the windigos destroyed by Twilight in the last season? Like, just before turning the villains into rock?

I hope the main six are given a similar treatment to how Starswirl was treated in the earlier seasons of G4. They can be a legitimately intriguing source of lore that prompts a few adventures without dragging attention away from the main cast.

the mane 6 animation style in the new mlp movie or boom toon would be amazing styles for g5, but it is a very lengthy process, and it is difficult to be constantly making new episodes in those styles. as much as I would love to see the g5 series in that style, it just isn’t probable. I actually don’t know if they are going to do 3d animation or 2d, but I hope that they choose an appealing 2d style.
Considering the advancement in technology in the movie I have an actual idea for something they could do for an episode:
Pipp let’s Sunny know about a new trend that’s sweeping social media.
A cartoon show based off of the mane six.
And while at first Sunny would be ecstatic about such an idea when she actually watches some of the show, she starts to get a little upset because some of the episodes have bad morals.
Like the other members of the mane six “ learn“ that if you want to tell Pinky pie or apple jacks something you have to use small words.
Unicorns wearing tennis balls on their horns is not only “necessary” but fashionable.
And of course that Pegasi are practically perfect in every way.
All leading to the main characters finding out that the creator of the show, Is the Pegasus reincarnation equivalent of the flimflam Brothers. Mainly intending the show to be a vehicle to start selling toys and merchandise. But the key thing is, some of the stuff they show in the videos correlates with Sunny’s Dad’s research. Leading them to discover that the salesman got the idea for the whole thing from one of the mane six journals, or some other book. They just felt that some of the lessons in the books needed tweaking to reflect today’s modern culture.
But the book could itself be a vehicle for some adventures and figuring out some of the mysteries.
I’m not surprised that Equestria broken up. Even one of my fanfic alicorm said, “One century, your friends, and the next century, your enemies. What’s the point of yout efforts, Princess?” It happened a lot in our own history too. I’m more curious about the changelings right now. What would they do without Thorax? And is Crystalis back or not?
I would rather prefer we focus on G5, but I wouldn't personally mind flashbacks or maybe singular episodes dedicated to figuring out why Twilight and the others were forgotten by Equestria, perhaps even some relics dedicated to them maybe referencing them but not directly making them the center focus, like maybe a copy of The Friendship Journal or the Tree of Harmony, even a reference to the Pillars would be nice

For those who don't know what happened to Canterlot, Zephyr Heights IS Canterlot. We just need to find out what happened to Ponyville, Everfree Forest (Not Bridlewood since that is actually Whitetail Woods), Manehattan, Cloudsdale, Appleloosa & of course, the secret crystal city. We also need to know what happened to those living outside Equestria.
Not to mention every creatures in equestria and what happened to it?
I really want gen 5 to learn the history of gen 4. One my favorite scenes in the movie is zip looking at the old Wonderbolts poster. Like a piece of her was missing and she wanted to learn more. And if it could be reimagined in this animation it be perfect.
I just had a crazy but funny thought... What if there was a time-travel episode where G5s Mane-5 go back in time to meet G4s Mane-6 and the Mane-6 end up visiting G5's era... and what if all that basically, accidentally caused all the problems that lead up to the loss of magic, etc in the first place or something..?
On the third watch of the movie I realise that Sunnis dad looks a lot like twilight sparkle. With the same colours in his hair and the same coloured skin. I believe that hear something along the lines of the grandson of twilight sparkle and that he married someone that looks like sunny to have her. It’s also means Twilight would probably have to married an earth pony.
I would like to see what the dragons and changelings and hippogryphs and griffons and yaks and sea ponies and breezies and all the other non pony races that have yet to be explored and the fantastic creatures and mythical beasts both sentient or just fauna might look like in the new my little pony g5 series
This art is so beautiful. I hope they do make references to the Mane Six in the G5 series, that would be awesome. The opening of the movie is awesome, so they might do something similar in the series. We will have to wait and see.
Maybe there could be a crossover or team up, like how Power Rangers used to bring the team from last year back for an episode or two. But most likely it'll be like what we saw at the beginning of the movie, quick little cameos. At best, they might use them to help bridge the gap between the end of G4 and the start of G5.
The only thing I’m curious about in generation five is that I am wondering where all the other creatures are, especially Discord.
I'd love to see what they look like in the 3D style too
It would have to be exceedingly rare or re imagining / setting up new lore. I think treating the mane 6 or even the student six in a similar way to how Gusty the Great, Clover the Clever or Starswirl the Bearded (in earlier seasons) where treated. Setting up the '1000 years ago' pre-plot for the G5 ponies to solve, or perhaps even setting up new "ancient wizards or warriors" that lived during the rule of princess twilight.
As much as I love G4 and as excited I would be if they brought back deep cut magical items like the alicorn amulet or something, G5 does need it own space to breathe inorder to fill its potential lest it feel like G4 the extended edition.
Well they all ready connected G4 and G5, so i'm for seeing more of the ponies we love playing out past events.
I would love to know how far back ancient Equestria was as referred to in the beginning of the G5 movie. I also think that it would be great to learn how things became the way they were and have some occasional flashbacks of the main six and how or what they left behind for our new ponies to find!

I to hope, we got a *proper explanation* why things went so wrong in Equestria (which amounts to more than just 'Twilight was to inactive as a queen' or 'she put her trust in the wrong student', because this would really be betrail to her character devolpment).
So I couldn't see this done without a few flash backs here and there. But maybe they should focus more on the time between Twilight's retirement/death and Sunny's (and the other members of the new main 5) birth, because what ever has happend, happend in this time, correct? *(Hasbro you better don't say no to this idea! 😡)*
Since there’s a series coming for the new generation and now sunny is an alicorn here is my theory:
Every episode her and the gang, occasionally only some members of the gang like how only fluttershy and applejack went to visit the Kirin, they will learn a lesson then have a flashback of the main 6 learning the same lesson or a similar lesson. Eventually they’re gonna learn an big lesson and then uncover a big secret. Perhaps they’ll find discord in stone and release him on accident. Or they’ll find discord- and the main 6 in stone. They mentioned discord in the danger danger (Angry mob) song. They didn’t mean discord as the creature of course but still. They could’ve used another word- but no. They chose discord specifically. Discord cannot die. Not from old age and what we know of him atleast. Because of course we don’t know everything about him. We don’t know if he was created on accident (Sawtooth reference) or he was apart of a species that somehow died off; or fled somewhere else, or if he even has a human counterpart. Perhaps he could be living as an animal similar to spike in the human world. Perhaps he could be a literal monster. Perhaps he is stuck in stone (AGAIN). But of course we don’t know everything. So who knows this theory might be completely wrong! But this is just a theory. A theory from your neighborhood brony! 🐎
I kinda think that the animation would be a mix to the Rainbow road trip animation mixed with the animation we are given now

We know that at least pinky pie had kids and applejacks brother (I don’t know how to spell his name) had a kid too so there is potential for sunny and the g5 characters to try to find out more about the main six by finding their families. So even if everyone has passed away there could still be a connection and twilight and the other alicorns could have went to the crystal empire to “hide” from the pony races. Because if ponies are gonna be scared and think the others are disgusting and such like that I can’t imagine how they would feel about alicorns that have both wings and a horn. And unless that rain boom made it all the way to the crystal empire whoever is there wouldn’t know it’s ok to come back.
Oh I would personally be fixated on the old and the new so will basically be 50\50. And I would be all for cameos and flashbacks of G4 and hopefully explain how when and where the damn crystal came from

it would be interesting if sunny found all of twilight and celestias letters! also i know this is a different generation but id love to see them bring discord back, since he technically is immortal
The beginning of the A New Generation movie had me smiling the entire time. If we can get flashback scenes in that animation style with the original cast, that would be awesome.
To be honest I love Mane 6 so much and will miss them :( Though I’m so excited when I saw them in the new movie just for a brief moment, it’s nice to know they haven’t completely forgotten or anything. It’s cool and I would love to see some small flashbacks or Easter eggs like they did in the movie! So far my favorite is Izzy. When I saw the movie I immediately thought of Hitch playing the fluttershy role cause of how animals are always besides him xD despite that, some people think he’s the kindness element
the flashback thing would be really cute but i do hope they're not depending on it all too much. i loved some of the previous generation references like the "gusty the great" story in g4, but if g5 leans too heavily on fim i can imagine that'd kind of defeat the purpose of it like, introducing new people to mlp haha
I liked that they put the mane 6 in the movie even though it was just that little bit it was hilarious and cool, and I hope they at least do something similar in the series. At the very least a few callbacks or cameos would be cool.just imagine pinkie pie just stopping a episode and breaking the fourth wall for a bit.
I really like the idea of the animation being used for lore flashbacks, like in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy and series.
I wonder how they will reintroduce G5 after the movie if they don't have to do the Elements of Harmony angle. I wonder how the episodes will be structured. Will it be arc-centric all about adventuring and discovering new places, while also stumbling over some of the old, or will there be a lot of slice of life, and even unnecessary filler episodes?
I'd love an episode where sunny either fines twilights time spell or discord potion to either meet or see the main six and find out what happened to cause the big divide between the three races and what happened to all the other magical races like like the changelings dragons or yaks
Heck I'd love an episode where to help sunny plan a party to celebrate the reformed friendships pip and izzy finds pinkies party cave and the old carousel Boutique with some of rarity design notes in the ruins of old ponyville

I guess they did set a precedent for Art Shift in the movie, so they may as well do the same in the series if they need it. It could be like the story of the two sisters from the very first scene in MLP:FiM. But keep in mind that the series probably won't be animated in the same style as the movie, since it would be too expensive. So they might have to change this flashback style as well to make things fit well together.
On a semi-related note, I hope they do an homage to the felt stop-motion bit from A Friend In Deed at some point, maybe with macaroni instead of felt. I think it fits Izzy's character even more than Pinkie.

I think Sunny and the others will use her dad's map and try to find Ponyvill. There, they will bump into the spirits of the mane 6.
Crazy theory, but I believe that we will see the Mane Six in the G5 show and not just in flashbacks. I think somehow we'll actually get a team up with the Mane Six and the Mane Five.
I wonder if the mane 6 is in purgatory like how the pillers of light were which lead to the every creature being divided
Pretty sure the Mane 6 are dead. Why use the purgatory thing again? It would just be treading new ground.
What if every G5 episode start with one of these flashbacks? That would be amazing.
