2015 Up F150 No Radio Controls, No Heat or A/C and No Power Windows

- This video shows the cause and and the fix for no power windows, radio, heat and air conditioning controls not functioning on 2015 and newer F150. Cracked tail light lenses allowing moisture into the BLIS modules and shorting the MSCAN network. The truck we look at in this example had over 51 codes in it including P193E, U0010, U0140, U0164A, U0199, U0100, U0208, U0252, U0256, U0557, B1448, U0146, and many others.
Thank you!!!! My 2018 F-150 had errors on Bliss, Cross-traffic safety system, tire pressure, front windows didn't work, radio & HVAC would not turn on. Yes, I had a crack in my tail light. Took it of disconnected everything dryed it out with a hair dryer. Sealed the lens with waterproof silicon. Put it all back together and GOOD AS NEW!! You saved me a load of money and probably several trips to the dealer....I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!
Sir, this just happened to me on a Sunday , 3 hours before I was assigned to assist at Mass . Your video saved the day. I removed and emptied the fish tank , dried and check all connectors. Within 30 minutes i fixed the problem thanks to you and your video. God Bless. Benny
I’m glad it helped!
Good video. I just wanted to mention about the same issue but in a different location so that it might help others. I just corrected this issue on my 17 XLT and the cause was the MS CAN wires Grey/Org & Purple/Org twisted pair were broken (from vibration) where they loop in and out of the Grey connector right above the driver's side of the spare tire. This created these exact symptoms and brought me to this video.
Good tip. I’ve also seen water get in the connectors between the frame and box cause this.
Good to know, my lights did not have any water or moisture so looking at next options to look - very sporadic
@@jeffkoehn1486 any codes in it after it occurs?
Smart man! Fixed my truck, never even noticed the cracked lens and doubted it when I went out to look. Sure enough, full of water and ice and is cracked. I took it apart and cleaned it and put It back on and it all worked, buys me time to get new parts shipped in.
Just got back from a wet 18 hour trip. I am having the exact same problems. I'll check this out tomorrow. Your the only guy offering fixes thanks!
2019 F150 King Ranch 50k miles. Engine rattling a tad a start up and that is I’m told a computer module needing re-coding or replaced. Just now going to lunch my running board was down and it usually retracts. Got in and it started fine with slight rattle but no A/C and no power to roll driver passenger windows down, but I can roll down rear windows. Radio works and no error lights on dash. No Ford appointments for 3 weeks. Going to check my tail lights soon, thanks for video.
Did you fix this issue?
I just disconnected the module and everything started working again. You probably saved me $500 or more. Thank you.
Yeah, disconnecting it will bring the network back up and everything but the obstacle detection in the tail light should work. Glad it helped!
I removed my very corroded blis module.. but my climate control, power windows, Airbag warning light, automatic running boards, heated steering wheel, all still aren’t working.. any suggestions?
I just started having this problem with my 2018 F150 platinum. I know it has a crack in the tail light cover! Between 2 different shops (one being a ford service dealership) they had my truck for 2 weeks and couldn’t figure it out. I assume they “reset” the battery so everything worked for 1 day. I was just about to look into replacing the front control interface module. Thank you so much for this video!
You’re very welcome
I wonder how much money you have save people on diagnostic labor! This was the perfect video also for the issue! Props to you sir and thank you very much!
You’re welcome. I’m glad it helped.
Im currently having the same exact problem. Im so glad i found this video. I order a new taillight this week for $550. Im heading to a local repair shop to put the taillight in for me. I didn't get the module yet. I hope this works!
I hope it takes care of it for you!
Did it work?
Exact same problem - same symptoms, thanks for taking the time to post this!
Your video saved my approx. 1800 dollars -- DIY fix and good to go, now its time to trade her in. 2015 F150 Lariat 204,000 miles LMx4
Glad it helped!
Spot on. My passenger side taillight had 1/2 cup of water and a small crack close to the tailgate. My running board are not deploying but everything else is working after drying it out with paper towels and a hairdryer. 👍
Glad it helped!
I’ve had this issue for a while one thing I did was disconnect the positive for 5 min turned the truck on and it wouldn’t happen for a few more days but this vid helps out a lot it’ll actually get fixed thank you

Thanks have 2015 f150 had multiple lost communication dtc same symptoms found left tail cracked and water connectors corroded unplugged blew water out left unplugged hvac front windows radio started working.thank you helped a lot.

thank you so much !!!! had water in taillight can’t see a crack but got all the water out and cleaned connections put some di grease and put back together for now it fixed everything. probably be buying a tail light leanne. thank you
No problem. You’re welcome.
FIXED. I DID NOT HAVE A CRACKED TAIL LIGHT but did have all of the other issues: I disconnected and reconnected the battery per others who didnt have a cracked light but same issues and IT WORKS NOW. will drive it around today in the heat and humidity and see if it holds up.... thanks to everyone here!!!!
That’s great! I haven’t ran into that one yet.
Just saved my insanity lol. Mine was cracked and I sealed 2 years ago and everything was fine. But just got full from a big storm. Thanks for the information. Works fine now.
Glad it helped
Dude, so awesome. Happened to me yesterday in the heat of the day, started pulling fuses then i found this video. Passenger side taillight had tons of water in it, disconnected it and boom, everything started working again. Never in a million years would i have thought to look there. Thank You So Much!!!

Quick question for you if you just go in the taillight and unhook it. Woukd that, make everything work again.? I haven't tried yet. Thanks

Unfortunately, i unplugged both of them and even took pos wire off battery to try to reset everything. Still having all the same issues. CRAP!!

Appreciate this video. The only video on UA-cam about it. I just ordered the tailights and the sensor about 1000 for all of them. Hopefully it fixed my problem

@@jemarhardin4769 so the sensor is backorder. All i did is clean all the connections and change the taillight. Kept the broken sensor. So it works. The only bad thing is the sensor wont work. But everything elise is fine
thnx man! been chasing wires for the past 2 days . i wish i have seen this earlier .
i cleaned the connectors and sealed the crack from the back side and dried the whole thing, works great now.

Yes I have Exactly the same problem Very helpful advice Thank you 🙏
Thank you, I just fixed the issue in the 2019 f350 after watching your video. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
Glad it helped!
Just started happening to my (2015 XLT) with a cracked taillight. Thanks for the info - seems crazy that the design would allow for this to happen. In addition to blind spot not working, interior lights, heater/fan/AC, and windows, my navigation was also throwing an error and my rear camera stopped working (hope it's all related). I live on the west coast of Canada (think Seattle rain) so I'll replace the taillight and see what that fixes.
If it has blind spot sensors and you’re getting water in the tail light I’d say you probably have found your problem. It takes down the entire network and pretty much everything on it.
yea my 2015 just started doing this. had water in passenger side tail lense had everything screwed up not working. cleaned connections and put di grease in them and it fixed it all for now
Very helpful video. You just save me time and money. The taillight was waterlogged. Thanks
You’re welcome! Glad it helped.
My 2015 lariat did the code thing sat.
Shut the truck off and it wouldn't crank.
Had to unhook the battery 5 times to get it cranked.
Once cranked it was a acting funny
No gear selection
No backup camera
No rear backup lamps
High speed fan came on
Transmission wouldn't down shift.
My taillight wasn't cracked but had water all inside.
Would this still be the problem area
Thanks
Appreciate this video brother i just found out why my AC windows and radio wasn’t working back right light was leaking water
Glad it helped!
Have you seen this issue coming from a loose keyless entry module.....like water getting in that way?
Ran into this issue after having a car smash my bumper. Thought it was related to the smashed sensor but I got it fixed today and found the same issues, no AC, seats, windows, cross system fault messages... checked the other tail light and it’s got excessive condensation droplets and was appears to be some type of corrosion leaking out from under it. Picking up the new casing tomorrow
Hopefully that takes care of it for you!
@@CarShopTalk The tailgate module was completely corroded, water in the cables water too. Disconnected it so I still have my lights but you seem to have found the problem for me as I once again have everything functional inside. Thanks

Thanks a lot for this video, I fix all the problems in the truck 🙏

I started having this issue today and found your video. However when I took the tail lights apart I didn’t have any water so I’m at a loss.
Just opened the tail light sure enough a crack by the top and full of water. everything you mentioned was bad. Wish I could upload photo got one of me pouring the water out! Thanks again
You’re welcome. Glad you found it.
This helped me out so much! Thanks for making this video. Had the problem fixed in a matter of minutes. Probably will need a new taillight eventually, but glad to have a temporary solution.
Any ideas for a leak with no visible cracks?
If there’s no visible cracks it has to be where the lens glues to the housing. Glad it helped.
Yes. I had this exact same error and found a crack in my tail light. Replaced with aftermarket and it worked perfectly. Was recently in an accident and broke my aftermarket tail light and sure enough after it rained, my airbag light would come on cutting off access to both front windows and no air and radio access.
Glad it helped!
you are the man!!!!
I have a base xl truck with these issues but no
Module in taillight? Radio is on but no volume, no dash power or window / lock controls
It could still be an issue on that network for another reason, or it could be something entirely different. You need to get a scan tool plugged into it and see what’s going on with it.
I have the base model too, any luck with it. Plz let me know.
i do have the same problem of my truck 2016 f150 5.0L ... a/c not working no stereo not working and no power window and some other
Mister I have a mustang 2017 gt my blind spot monitor fault but the problem I have it’s went I put my car in reverse the a/c turns off same the tail light and my passenger window same not work can you help me any idea
I’ve had this problem for quite some time, apparently it’s a common problem with Ford. You would think Ford would issue a notice and give some restitution for this known defect in the manufacturing of the tail lights. I have had no cracks. No breaks in the lens or body yet. Water gets in through the wiring connection. I’ve just disconnected the BLIS system and clean the connections and left them hanging in the tail light. Each BLIS module is around $700 so you need two and New tail lights.
The BLIS modules really should have been mounted in their own water tight compartment. There’s blis modules behind the bumper on lots of applications with no issues. It was a bad design.
Thanks for the information ; I fix fast dealerships say need two weeks for see what is the problem and my guarantee no cover electric parts
You’re welcome! Glad it helped.
My 2016 F150 is getting the Blind Spot and Cross Traffic errors on the dash. The driver’s side tail light had moisture and a small puddle of water. I dried everything, blew out with air compressor and added dielectric grease to all connections. Unfortunately I’m still receiving the Blind Spot and Cross Traffic errors. I’m guessing my blind spot module must be bad?
If I replace the module with a new or used one, do I need to reprogram it? If so can I use the ForScan software?
2022 update. If your module is getting wet you can simply pull out the tail light. Disconnect the gateway module and unscrew it. And then put the tail light housing back in. You will lose your blind spot detection but everything else will work. That way you have a vehicle that functions until you order a new housing and or gateway unit. I would buy housing first and plug in old unit. Might get lucky and not have to buy new gateway.
Excellent video. Yes i have a cracked tailight!!
Glad it helped!
Is there a way to tell which tail light is causing the. problem, other than it being full of water,ie do both have the module in them
Both have modules in them. If the entire network isn’t don’t you can retrieve doc’s and see if you have communication with both.
yes both do. mine was the passenger side. had water enough to pour it out i cleaned all the connections with wd40 it takes water out put it back together and fixed it all for now. got to find out how water getting in lense don’t see a crack
See my truck has the air bag light, no front controls, no power windows, no a/c and other stuff. I do have a hole in my taillight but it doesn't have that module in it. The online forums point towards the FCIM and ford told me that would be a $1500 fix! Is there something else I can look at ?
I have the same problem. Did yours get fixed since you posted this?
Question, would it be viable to just replace the taillight without replacing the module? I'm facing similar issues but I don't think there's very much water in my taillight. The issue is intermittent and seems to happen when the temperature peaks for the day (I'm in Texas so 100 F. or so) And i'm thinking that the water is evaporating due to the heat then condensing onto the connector.
Did you ever get an answer? I have the same issue with my 2018 F-150 Platinum and every service department is telling me it’s going to take two weeks before they can look at it.
So u can just replace the taillights and you should be good. Just clean the connectors for water. But if your blondspot monitor is not working u should change the sensor unless u dont care for it like me
Buy new housing, plug in old gateway. If problems persist you have your answer
After putting this new part on did ya have to reprogram anything! And what was your time to problem solve this issue
SOD modules do have to be configured with as-built data when replaced. Forscan or something similar can be used.
My blind spot worked before fixing taillight. There was a leak in taillight but I have fixed the tailight but still same issue. I don’t know what module to order. Any help?
It may just be the connector to the BLIS module has moisture in it or is corroded.
I just installed taillights with the bliss system from a 2019 f-250 in my 2017 f-250 and my climate control won't turn on my radio won't work from the center dash controls but will from the steering wheel, air bag light and others good this be because I added these taillights even if they're in good condition??
It sounds like the network is shorting. Try unplugging them one at a time, cycle the key and see if operation is restored.
I removed my very corroded blis module.. but my climate control(heat), power windows, Airbag warning light, automatic running boards, heated steering wheel, all still aren’t working.. any suggestions?
Is the connector full of water? Blow it out with compressed air if it is.
Hi I have a 2018 f150 and I was driving it lastnight then I parked it then the dash is black no radio/but screen is on no blinkers no power locks no heat or a/c so just wondering if you could help me out
Let me make sure I understand. The cluster lit back up after you shut it off. All the things you said don’t work, they work if you turn the key on? Or not at all?
I have the same problem with my 2015 F150. HVAC, Radio control, Power door and windows in front are not working. I replaced my tail light but with out the blind spot sensor and it works but with out the BLIS
Hadnt really thought about it, but if someone wasn’t worried about the BLIS working you could probably just unplug the module and keep the connector dry and everything else would work.
I had the exact same issue except I have an xlt with no blms. I replaced the tail lights and checked the connectors for corrosion and nothing! Still have to problem. What do I do now?
The tail lights are a fairly common issue on vehicles with BLIS, but on a vehicle without, it sounds like something is taking down the network, but it could be a wiring issue or any of the modules on the network.
Did you find the problem, I have the same Issues, no blis module?
My 2018 f150's driver side running board us stuck in the down position, the folding mirrors heating and a/c not working tire monitoring isn't working and power windows also not working.
Is there water in the tail light / is it equipped with blind spot monitoring?
You are a king
Thanks!
The same thing happened to me today while driving home and I was about to have a panic attack. I was like great the whole truck is F-d up now and out of extended warranty even on my 2015 F-150 Platinum. Well I looked at the right rear passenger taillight after looking on ford message boards and mine had obvious water intrusion and condensation. Maybe has a small crack but I never hit anything so who knows. The bliss had malfunctioned during heavy rains while driving and in the morning after it rained hard all night. Usually worked again shortly after that and no problems ever when not raining until now. I took out light unplugged light and cleaned connectors and used canned air to spray out. Let it dry in sun and drove it around my neighborhood for about 5 miles with no tail light in and everything magically worked again. The tail light had about 2 cups of water in it after I removed it and dumped out the light. Ordering new tail light and pulled off bliss sensor and put and dried it with a towel as it was kind wet and put it in a bad of rice to try and save it even though it apparently has been wet for several years off and on. So once I get a new tail light I will clean the bliss sensor connector and add some carbon conductive grease to all the connectors and see what happens. Hopefully it was the connectors and not the bliss sensor but we will see in a few days when I get the new light and install it. I am drying out lights and may reattach without bliss sensor until new light comes in so I can drive it still. Great info on the video.
Glad it helped!
Where can I locate the sensor. I took out my tail light for my 2016 XLT but I can't find the sensor or module...any help?
If you didn’t find it on the back of the tail light it’s probably not equipped with BLIS.
My 2015 F150 Lariat had been having those problems. Power doors and key doesn’t work, windows and brake pedal locks. The truck would turn the switch on but it wouldn’t start and screen shows a bunch of errors like “service advance track” “steering assist fault” “blind spot system fault” “cross traffic system fault”
I don’t think water in the tail light can cause a no start. Different network. I’m not sure what you’ve got going on there.
Could this also be caused by the taillight harness being unplugged?
Not unplugged. If the network wired in it are shorted together, shorted to power or to ground it would. Throw some water in the unplugged connector and all kinds of random things can start happening.
I’m having this same issue now. Checked both tail lights and both are fine, no water in them either. I blew air into the tail light connections still no luck.
The tail lights getting water in them and taking down the network is a common cause for this, but a wiring problem or module any where on the network can cause the same problem. Really you need to get a scan tool involved and see which modules will communicate and if in fact the network is down or you have something else going on.
@@CarShopTalk will your local auto parts store have that tool to check?
@@ipsych0tic220 most of them will just have a cheap generic scan tool that will read the pcm. You want to know if you have communication with the front control interface module, drivers door module, HVAC, etc and what codes are in them.
Having this exact problem with a 2016 f150 platinum. Does anyone have a part number of what I need to replace. I found a hairline crack on driver side.
take it out and clean the connections. spray wd40 alittle in connections. takes water out need di grease in connections after that if it works. fixed mine myself but water is getting in lense somehow so be buying a lense soon
Temp settings won't come up on the touchscreen. Have a bad tail light wonder if that's the problem? Great video
For the tail light to affect it it would have to take down the network and you’d probably have more things not working. If it’s only the temp settings not working or displaying I would guess it’s an issue with the hvac. If you have access to Forscan or another scan tool capable of talking to the hvac see if it will communicate and if will pull codes from it. If it won’t communicate possibly a blown fuse, bad hvac unit etc.
What if my truck is more basic without the blind spot sensors etc, is this error still related in the taillight?
I’ve never seen a network issue on the back of a truck not equipped with BLIS, but it might be a possibility. I don’t think the harness on the truck box would have the network wires in it, but the one on the frame going to the back of the truck might have the the wires / circuits in it either way.
@@CarShopTalk thanks for your input, I appreciate it. I will check all the harnesses at the rear of the truck and see what I can find. Thanks again.
@@a.million9680 There should be 3 or 4 connectors at the very back of the frame where the box harness plugs into the frame. I have seen some of those get moisture and corrosion in them. Probably would be worth checking.
@@CarShopTalk okay cool, I will take a look today. Do you ever recommend dielectric grease inside the harness connections? Thanks.
Having same issue, my ford doesn’t have the rear blind spot sensors, were u able to find out the problem??
Is it possible to just swap out these assemblies with taillights without the side warning modules. Would this be fix without having to calibrate with a scan tool. This is a terrible design.
I’ve never had anyone ask that or given it any thought. Possibly. If you didn’t reconfigure at least the bcm and possibly the cluster I’m sure you would get side obstacle detection not working messages, but it could probably be configured with Forscan or something similar to get rid of that. On super duty trucks I know it possible since I’ve reconfigured several of those after the boxes were removed and flatbeds were installed. I’m pretty sure it could be configured on an F150 as well.
This is what happing to me 2015 f150,, my side mirror turn light is cracked, is this in this system as well, and the mod. Your talking of in the tail light
I don’t think a problem in the mirror could cause this. The one in the video is getting water in the side obstacle detection modules, located in the tail lights.
Tk ya sir,, what was your reprograming
@@orvillewilkerson5432 reprogramming? The SOD modules. The configuration or as-built data needs to be configured with Forscan or something similar.

I got something similar w my f150 2014 I noticed while driving that my ac wouldn’t turn on or light up at all and my controls on steering wheel also stopped working for my radio while driving the tire pressure sensor light came on and flashed and then just stayed on also when I finally got home the radio stayed on after turning the truck off and getting out it just stayed on until I finally disconnected the battery fyi I got a after market radio but if anyone has any idea or had a similar experience, if you could shed some light it’d be much appreciated
Same issue, just truck doesn’t unlock so I can’t open the rear gate to access tail lights
Can you remove the inner tailgate panel and open the tailgate?
I have a 2016 F150 lariat crewcab, the radio, ac controls, front windows and powersteering dont work. After somebody backed into my truck at a parking lot and did a very small amount of damage on my drivers rear taillight, I thought no biggie. I brought it home, put it in my garage and a few days later it wouldn't start, then I had a flatbed send it to the ford dealership and they replaced the battery. The truck runs and drives like new but they said it must have been hit by lightning because the power steering is not working and all the lights are on, on the dash. In addition to all the lights on, on the dash, the ac controls and radio does not respond, although they have power, also the front windows and power steering wont work either. After taking it to the ford store they told me the total bill for making everything perfect would be just under 15k. They did tell me that the power windows have been reset, I did ask them what about the damage on the taillight, thanks to your video, 1:11 but they told me that did not matter. They did tell me that they would recommend replacing both taillights and BLIS modules for both rear taillights but that had nothing to do with the other issues, also they said they would have to put in a new steering rack, ABS module, a sensor in the driver and passange seat, and possibly a air bag module in the center consul somewhere. I know for a fact that is was not hit by lightning because it was kept inside my garage. When I asked about the tail light they told me I could not buy it myself and put it in because it has to be programed, so I paid the just under 1200$ bill and brought it home, am I being scammed??? I would really appreciate any knowledge you can send my way, thanks Titus
It’s always hard to know without seeing the vehicle, but I’d be shocked if it’s the correct diagnosis. I really doubt half the stuff on the truck failed at once. I’d still wonder about the tail light damage somehow shorting the network or bliss module and causing several of your symptoms. For the others, honestly I wonder if the battery was momentarily hooked up backwards or the system received a large electrical spike when the battery was replaced or the vehicle was jump started. You might try unhooking the battery for an hour and then hook it back up and see if there’s a change. There’s a large power cable going to the rack. Make sure they didn’t loosen it when replacing the battery. Get a second opinion from someone knowledgeable with Ford’s and network diagnosis.
very smart thank you
Glad it helped!
Does this require programming the replacement module?
SOD modules do have to be configured if replaced. I’ve never tried doing it with Forscan, but I think you probably could. I think it’s just the as-built data being configured and not a software download.
Very helpful thankyu
You’re welcome!
Can somebody tell me where this is located so I can replace it.
Has anyone else ran into this problem?
yes, actually it happen last week on our 2016 F150 platinum crew cab, its at FORD right now, and they told us exactly what you just spoke about. We were told our tail light had about a cup of water in it. They told us the fix is 1,900.00 to replace the light and module and after that, they will need to do another code check to see if anything other code comes up, therethat's

@@josearguello5388 I’m assuming the truck does have blind spot / radar sensors in the tail lights? Is there any water or corrosion in the connectors? Or the connectors behind the rear bumper where the wiring goes from the box to the frame? If you unplug the blind spot sensors does any of the other stuff start working? If none of that gets you anywhere you’re probably going to need to get codes out of it and hopefully that will point you in a direction. Do you need to reset the system / take out the error codes
You really should clear the codes after a repair, but usually everything starts working after it’s repaired.
Where is the exact location my car tailgate Amal crack but no water corrosion
Exact location of? The network? It’s the twisted pair of wires going into the BLIS module connector, but that network runs throughout the vehicle and a short in it anywhere will cause the same symptoms.

By the way I do see moisture in my lens,, passenger rear
I have the same issues as described and a no start issue as well as the odometer being all dashes
If the odometer is all dashes the pcm isn’t talking on the network. Could be a network issue, short, shorted module etc or the pcm may not be powering up, relay etc. if you plug a scan tool in Im guessing it won’t be able to communicate with the pcm.
Did you fix the issue and how. I think I have the same issue
Same thing. Hate this truck. Got screwed by my dealer on the cam phaser. Will never buy a Ford again.
Unfortunately, not the issue with mine. I have all these errors... still unsolved
The best way to diagnose it would be to plug into it with something capable of communicating with all the modules on the network to verify what’s happening. Anything that takes down the network will cause those symptoms.
I have the problem but none of my tail lights are cracked
There’s definitely other things can cause a similar issue
Do you know like what else?
@@williamholbron3726 Anything that takes the network down will cause the same symptoms. I’d want to plug into it with a scan tool for starters and verify the network is going down. Assuming it is, it could be wiring, I’ve seen issues where the harness jumps from the frame to the truck box or along the frame in the center of the truck. Any module on the network has the potential to short and bring the network down with it. The resistance across the network with the battery disconnected should be around 60 ohms.
had this exact issue 2018 f150
I’ve seen quite a few with that same problem.
Have same problem but regular tail lights
I don’t think I’ve ran into it on one not equipped with BLIS with that type of problem. I’m not sure if the network wires still run to the back of the truck on ones not equipped, but they might. If they do it could be water in the connectors where the harness jumps from the frame to the truck box. The easiest way to tell would be to get a scan tool involved and see if all of the modules can communicate on the network.
