That goulash was not goulash. :) It was definitely pörkölt. I don't know that you mixed up accidentally, or they sold it to you as goulash, but no one here in Hungary eats goulash with nokedli, mainly because it's a soup. :) (as you said in the video correctly) Also in goulash you can always find carrot, turnip and potato. Believe me, it was pörkölt. So no excuses, you guys need to come back for another round. ;)
I think what you are referring to is goulash soup, which indeed is what is generally abbreviated as 'goulash' in Hungary for convenience. Do not forget however that there is such a thing as goulash (not soup) which is quite similar to pörkölt or paprikás but with differences in preparation.

Long live cabbage rolls!! Love your food vlogs...and admittedly a litte (well maybe a lot) envious of all the different food adventures you enjoy. Keep them coming Eileen and Marc!
So good that you enjoyed our cuisine! May i give you a little correction: that beef stew in the bun was "pörkölt" and not "goulash". It is a common mistake :) So the rule is: a rich paprika meet stew is pörkölt, goulash is always a soup with (of course) paprika, beef and lots of vegetables.
A nevedből itélve sváb származású lehetsz, náluk nem is szokás. Azonban, az pörkölt volt, és nem gulyás - azonban jobb helyeken még mindig így tálalják, hogy meg lehessen enni a kenyeret is.

@Eileen Aldis at 1:26 your are not really eating Goulash (in Hungarian meaning), on the picture we can see Pörkölt. Basically Goulash in Hungary is a soup that also includes beef but many ingredients also. Greetings from Hungary

finally a video where there is not only 'lángos' and 'kürtös kalács' but also some 'tócsni'... but I do not understand why so many says that beef stew is 'gulyás'... that is definitely not! beef stew with dumplings is 'marhapörkölt with nokedli' while 'gulyás' is a soup can bee seen in the video at 00:10... I wonder why "gulyás' soup got so famous? that was poor man's meal. there are many tastier soups to taste for instance Jókai bean soup
Greets! Just a bit correction. That dish what you call as goulash was another dish, called pörkölt. Same cooking method, except less water when you cook it, that's why it less soupy.
Yes, we did! It's in this Budapest playlist in the video called Hungarian Foods To Try: ua-cam.com/video/IKwDpit0968/v-deo.html (spoiler: it was delicious!) :)
There is a difference between gulyás And Pörkölt. Gulyás is the soup And pörkölt is similar to stew, but most of the time We dont put into the bread but top of the Nokedli. 😊
Can you please tell me where you found the cheese place? I am in love and I am going to Budapest in a bit more than a week. So please share it so I can visit the cheese heaven!
Túrórudi is filled with curd/cottage cheese, it's hard to come up with the exact equivalent of Hungarian túró, in Hungary it comes in chunky bits, but in other countries it's more of a creamy texture.
About sour cream: it is coming from milk (tej) . When they left the milk to stand minimum a day or two in a fridge it start to change for two parts. Bottom will be a very liquid and white part which has a little bit sour taste. We call it "savó". Its about 80 % of the original milk and it's a little bit acidulous. The upper part of the milk will be a dense and creamy layer which is the fat of the milk. It's a little bit sweet. We call it "a tej föle" it means the upper part of the milk. If you get this fatty and dense part and mix with a little lower part you get a 10 or 20 % fat sour cream (tejföl) depends of the mixing of the two parts. Of course nowadays in the modern factories the procedure could be different. Bye
Wonderful pronunciation of tócsni, and nokedli. Gulyás and paprika were less authentic, but there you were biased by the international versions of the names :)
Cabbage rolls (toltott kaposzta) is my favorite Hungarian dish from my Hungarian upbringing. BTW That was a strange Hungarian gulyas. It was way too thick.
This phenomenon is due to the fact that in English gulyàs soup and stew are both just called goulash. So that makes it somewhat confusing. This was not a goulash soup but a goulash aka pörkölt. 😏
In this video we were at one of the Budapest Christmas markets. We made other food videos in other places, though, if you're interested. They're in this Budapest playlist: ua-cam.com/video/IKwDpit0968/v-deo.html
Turo rudi is sweet cottage cheese. Hungarians eats pastries and cakes filled with sweet cottage cheese, many people find this odd, only because they never tried.
@@EileenAldis Hi, what was yours and your boyfriend's each favorite food in Budapest? Ps, for the bath houses, what was the cost to use them? I AM HUNGRY,, LOOK SO GOOD!! ISTENI A KAJA DE A ZSOMLEBE A porkolt mert az nem gulyas volt meg elmenne ha nem lenne benne meg nokedli is,,, a hurkara folyt a nyalam nem ettem mar ezer eve ilyeneket hianyzik
finally a video where there is not only 'lángos' and 'kürtös kalács' but also some 'tócsni'... but I do not understand why so many says that beef stew is 'gulyás'... that is definitely not! beef stew with dumplings is 'marhapörkölt with nokedli' while 'gulyás' is a soup can bee seen in the video at 00:10... I wonder why "gulyás' soup got so famous? that was poor man's meal. there are many tastier soups to taste for instance Jókai bean soup
same thing with pizza... why did pizza get so famous since this was poor man's meal?
Another great video! We have to try tóczni next time in Hungary.
Ooh yes it's delicious!
It's called "tócsni". Just saying so you can find it if you're visiting... :)
Sorry to inform you tócsni is not Hungarian, but Slovakian.
Greets!
Just a bit correction.
That dish what you call as goulash was another dish, called pörkölt.
Same cooking method, except less water when you cook it, that's why it less soupy.
Csabi. Another correction porkolt->stew
Gulyas is a soup.
Wow. Everything looks so good and judging by your expressions, I know everything was. Hungry for cheese, sausage, fried potatoes and everything now.
We really enjoyed all of it, as you can tell! :)
Did you try langosh? (Sorry I don't know the correct spelling)
Yes, we did! It's in this Budapest playlist in the video called Hungarian Foods To Try: ua-cam.com/video/IKwDpit0968/v-deo.html (spoiler: it was delicious!) :)
Hajrà Turo Rudi so good! I'm Hungarien girl Thank you for your video I LOVE IT!!!! Kissis
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you! ❤️
Um yes I love potatoes!!! Those looked delicious. Give me all the food after this video
haha me toooo! Such yummy treats :)
There is a difference between gulyás And Pörkölt. Gulyás is the soup And pörkölt is similar to stew, but most of the time We dont put into the bread but top of the Nokedli. 😊
That croissant shaped cheese looks amazing!
It was delicious! 🥐🧀
Can you please tell me where you found the cheese place? I am in love and I am going to Budapest in a bit more than a week. So please share it so I can visit the cheese heaven!
nice video, but i am surprised you guys did not show the famous hungarian chimney cake =O
Thanks! Oh we did try it in a different video - loved it! Our other Hungarian foods videos are here if you'd like to see: bit.ly/hungarianfoods :)
Its so cute how you said the names of the foods 😅😂 i like these videos of hungary, it looks better through your lens..
Thank you! I gave the pronunciation my best shot! ;)
Where was the place you got goulash in a bread bowl?
That was at the Christmas market.
Bali waiting you guys
Túrórudi is filled with curd/cottage cheese, it's hard to come up with the exact equivalent of Hungarian túró, in Hungary it comes in chunky bits, but in other countries it's more of a creamy texture.
Thanks for sharing!
Was that Hungarian rice sausage next to the sausage you tried?
Hmm I'm not sure
Megkellene kóstóltatni velük a toroskáposztát vagy a kolozsvári káposztát is.
Bye
Thanks for sharing this! I still love sour cream and Marc still not...more for us haha.
You guys made me hungary!!! 😀😁😃Sorry it had to be done!
Haha had to! 😉
Delicious.
Very! :)
Azerbaijan country super 😍😙😙😗😗😗👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👍👍
Wonderful pronunciation of tócsni, and nokedli. Gulyás and paprika were less authentic, but there you were biased by the international versions of the names :)
Thank you! I gave it a good shot ;)
Ohh gosh.. i'm homesick now >.
Cabbage rolls (toltott kaposzta) is my favorite Hungarian dish from my Hungarian upbringing. BTW That was a strange Hungarian gulyas. It was way too thick.
Tom Bilcze yup definitely not traditional goulash
Because it wasnt gulyás! it was a pörkölt! Gulyás is a soup based on pörkölt + potato, carrots etc..
This phenomenon is due to the fact that in English gulyàs soup and stew are both just called goulash. So that makes it somewhat confusing. This was not a goulash soup but a goulash aka pörkölt. 😏
So where did you go to get all these foods?
In this video we were at one of the Budapest Christmas markets. We made other food videos in other places, though, if you're interested. They're in this Budapest playlist: ua-cam.com/video/IKwDpit0968/v-deo.html
Turo rudi is sweet cottage cheese. Hungarians eats pastries and cakes filled with sweet cottage cheese, many people find this odd, only because they never tried.
Thank u so much
All of that food does look super yummy.
It was!
@@EileenAldis Hi, what was yours and your boyfriend's each favorite food in Budapest? Ps, for the bath houses, what was the cost to use them? I am strongly considering doing a trip to Budapest this year, and I loved your video for there. It looked to be a totally cool place to check out. Ps, their usage of paprika in everything I find to be humorous. I will be sure to check out your other videos for you & Mark in other countries. Btw, Japan is super cool, if you guys can manage to get over to there sometime. I was able to visit there once, several years back. They are so very polite that it's quite refreshing. Thanks again for the response. I greatly appreciate it.
@@kevinwestrom Ooh I don't know if I can pick a favourite! So many good ones and also Christmas foods that we tried at the market in another video. We actually made a whole video guide to the baths (here: ua-cam.com/video/3R3UI4HYr5Q/v-deo.html) that I hope is helpful. We've been to Japan and LOVE it, however, that was before making UA-cam videos. Will have to return. If you decide to go to Budapest, hope you have a great time! We made a whole series there if you'd like to see more: bit.ly/BudapestPlaylist :)
The sausage....yummm!
It was grrrreat 👌🏻
