Great video. There is a very important information( from Hungarians to other people) about Chimney cake - Kürtős kalács. Yes it's from Romania from a region where lives Hungarians ( Székely). So originally it's 100% Hungarian sweet as it came from Hungarians who lives in another country, which area was belong to Hungary ( not very long time ago). Regards
Just another small or not so small detail around the chimney cake. It is a hungarian tradition to bury the winter at the end of February, it is a pagan or heathen custom mixed with Christian celebrations. Right when the big fasting starts before Easter we also celebrate the burial of winter. On that day that we call Húshagyó kedd, people in Hungary and in old terrritories of Hungary dress up in costumes and organize big parties and build bonfires and make as much noise as they can. All this to scare the winter and the cold away. On this day women bake chimney cake as a dessert because fasting starts so they don't want to make fancy desserts. It is a sign of respect to the old values, by still celebrating the burial of winter, but also respecting the Christian values, by still fasting. Not sure anybody was curious but we still keep this tradition in the Partium region, and we bake chimney cakes on Húshagyó kedd (Meatleaving tuesday) it is much smaller than the famous one but just as delicious.
Szép videó, eszem is egy fokhagymás-tejfölös Lángost. A krémes íz amit keresel a tejföl.
You are "robbed" on a Christmas Market in Budapest. All foods are more cheaper in a normal restaurant around the city and the quality of the food is also better. If you have time, I recommend you to find a traditional Hungarian restaurant and try the real Hungarian cuisine. We Hungarians say, if the Frutti Di Mare Pizza is the Italian pizza with the fruit of the sea, than the Lángos is the Hungarian pizza with the fruit of the cow (because of the most popular sour cream+cheese version).
yeah sadly all christmas markets very expensive but not because of their greeds! :/ sadly the place reservation price is super high! it can be 1-2-5 million hungarian forint which is much more than a regular monthly salary! (at least 10-20x bigger) so i understand why it is super expensive + they also go on the cold all of the day... @@Travelwithchris
Lángos is a deep fried dough topped with garlic and sour cream and trappist cheese. One of my favorit breakfast and an always go on the beach. I also like to put bacon and onions on it. Also Chimneycake is originated from Transylvania from the Sékely people who are the Hungarians in Transylvania.
The chimney cake originates from erdély its a part of hungary that got cut off. It used to be something that they make at a wedding and the form is like that so you can put it over your arm and eat from it
Hey Chris! Video just popped so just gotta watch as we love Budapest. Visited 3yrs running in the 90's and travelled much of Hungary. Also the best music festi held on the island in the Danube. Walked to it from a bridge in Budapest. Was such an amazing atmosphere. Mainly Hungarian and many former Yugoslavian youngsters. We had such a great time together but it was very humbling as we were able to continue our travels but they had to return to Serbia, Croatia etc for who knew what. Places we recommend a visit to are Eger, Lake Balaton, Hortobagy National Park, Pecs, Kecskemet oh so many beautiful places. We did it in the summer times with a tent and travelled by train. Fields of poppys and sunflowers along narrow gauge rail tracks. Sat at the back of the train on a small verander passing through tunnels of trees. Was truly amazing and recommend a summer visit. The villages are something else. Everywhere you could see the conical shape of the household brewies in the back of the gardens for shnapps made from the fruit. (Knocked us for six but no hangover as so pure). Anyway got a bit excited seeing you in Hungary. We went from there up to Poland. Enjoyyyyy 👍
ha,ha the Hungarian pizza is called langos :) Budapest of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, I adore it! I highly recommend people to go there, is well worth it and the food is Top-notch! Nice to see you there!

Kürtőskalács is chimney shaped cake specific to Hungarians from Hungary, more specifically the Székelys. Originally popular in the Hungarian-speaking regions of Romania, more predominantly the Székely Land, it became popular in both Hungary and Romania. Just to be accurate, it's still Hungarian because originates from recent Romanian territories. Szekelys are originally Hungarian people attached to Romania.
Just to be more precise, the chemny cake (kürtöskalács) was found out by the Hungarian people in Transilvania in 18 centuries. From 10 centuries (when Hungarians occupied this land) to 20 centuries Transilvani was part of Hungary. So this cake is an original Hungarian food as same as the Szekely nation are Hungarians too.
Wow! That Hungarian pizza almost looks like how we make our Native American tacos. But we put beans, beef, onions, cheese and lettuce. Sometimes chili.😁
