A Great reaction yet again to another of my favourite John Farnham songs. Those little bells are called 'Finger Cymbals' I believe....they are like Tiny drum cymbals.
We were so spoilt !! ... but where were you !!!!! ... he went to your countries and you didn"t appreciate the amazingness that was his voice !!!! ... we thank God for him all the time !! .... YAY !! John !!!!!!!!
This beautiful song was written by Ross Wilson, another Australian singer who was in bands. However the song didn't take off in the music charts --- until John entwined his magical voice and interpretation around and through it. Another gorgeous song in the same genre, co-written by John, is, 'Burn For You', from the same concert. Your comments are spot-on !
Love watching your reactions my friend. Such a beautiful love song. John is a master entertainer....and he had one of the best bands and backing singers on the planet. Most came and never left. Waiving to your from Australia.....
If you love the power in his voice. Then the song When the war is over. I think the version that’s the best was in 2003. His voice is just so powerful. And beautiful. You will get goosebumps up yours arms. Another fantastic song from John is Angels. I think from the classic jack tour. Glad your enjoying our John. 💕
John is from an era where song writers wrote the songs and singers recorded and performed them. Especially in his early career in the 60's and 70's. So, quite a lot of Johns songs were written by other people but original to him so not covers. This song almost fits in that category. It was written by Ross Wilson when he was with his band Mondo Rock. They did record it but it did not go anywhere, so he offered it to John and it became one of John's bigger hits and Ross Wilson always jokes about how much money John makes for him. John is not a prolific writer, but he has written or co written several albums of his own music, like Chain Reaction Album and Then Again, and almost all of his albums have at least one or two songs on it that he wrote.
My favourite ballad from John is "Burn for You." But this is a very close second. John is a master performer and, as Ross Wilson, who wrote this song, said, John is a brilliant interpreter of song.😊❤
I can tell you love John's vocals listen to When something is wrong with my baby live on a TV show Hey Hey Its Saturday . It high lights his versatility , John can sing anything and make it his own cheers from OZ
A song that John wrote and is absolutely full on is Playing to Win. The one with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is outstanding. There are videos on UA-cam called John Farnham can sing anything which show his agility. Another favourite of mine is Age of Reason again with the orchestra. Thanks for your reactions to John.
You're correct, it is a cover. Mondo Rock released it on their Nuovo Mondo album in 1982, I loved it then when sung by Ross Wilson but John made it his own in 1986. There's a video out there when they sing it together.
I’m thoroughly enjoying your reaction to “our John” & must admit that apart from the duet between John & Jimmy Barnes, I have no interest in any others with the exception of other Australian musicians. You really need to check out the huge range of genres that John performs effortlessly too. Always go for a LIVE performance cos that when you see the real John, his humility, his gratitude & his humour. ♥️
The name Clarinet is the same across the board. I learnt to play it as a kid when they ran out of Sax's. I dont know if the tiny little Cymbols have an actual specific name. But all the instruments give you the thought and visions of flamingo's flying across the sky. Ross is a phenomenal writer, and John and his Band turn every song they sing well past 11. Their rearrangements are magnificent.
@@tonyquinn8405 Ross is only two years older than John. If you check their bios on Wikipedia it appears that their budding careers in music started circa 1965.
@@tonyquinn8405 That was why I wanted to make a comment. 🤗 I think we both share an intention to help new fans find out more information about the trajectory of these terrific guys. There are so many more for them to discover. I’m a big fan of Tommy Emmanuel and his late brother Phil (RIP), also Wendy Matthews and Billy Field. For the benefit of any new readers, I highly recommend the documentary “John Farnham: Finding The Voice” as parts of it contain information that I hadn’t put together before. The best example of this is that “You’re The Voice” in 1985 galvanised the people in both West and East Germany to become organised. The destruction of the Berlin Wall happened in 1989 and the two countries were unified. The composers had intended this song to be a protest for nuclear disarmament and I think that the way it worked out is a credit to all who helped make it into an anthem. Ross Wilson is a wonderful composer and musician. I’m so glad that he created “A Touch Of Paradise” which is one of the most sublime songs I know. All the best from a fellow fan!
The lyrics really paint an evocative picture of the scene. You can feel the love, the air, see the rainbow. John's voice is magnificent, and he always uses it to bring out the emotion of the lyrics.
Ross Wilson is an amazing singer/songwriter/performer. Brilliant song. John and his bands interpretation is sublime. It takes you to an Island, swaying palms, gentle waves with your love. ❤ Thank you for showcasing John and his amazing band.
There is a podcast called "He's the voice" and each episode focuses on each one of the songs from "Whispering Jack". The episode which covers "Touch of Paradise " features Ross Wilson and he talks about how he wrote it and recorded it. He didn't write it for John but talks about how John arranged and sang it differently. It's a great podcast and features so many people including most of his band members and backup singers, a lot of the writers and Gaynor Wheatley. Well worth a listen.
Thanks for another lovely reaction! It's his song in that it's off one of his albums, but not written by him. I think this is quite common for singers, it's often bands that write their own music, but vocalists often sing other people's songs. Later in his career he did write more of his own stuff too. :) I wrote this on another of your videos, but can't hurt to write it again! ;) Would love to see you do 'When The War Is Over', one of my absolute favourite of his performances: ua-cam.com/video/ubPdq0ejgpA/v-deo.html This is from 1987, when he was just becoming big again after being forgotten about for a decade or so (he was very famous when younger), so the band isn't as big, but John's vocals and the song are fantastic. The video I linked is a fairly recent upload so not many views, but it's much less blurry than all the other versions on UA-cam that I've found.
I love it that you love 'Our John', he is such a kind, talented person. This is the most beautiful song ever written IMO, sung beautifully, by a beautiful soul! Then again; Burn for You is co-written by John and another beautiful ballad. Another one from this concert is John's cover of Stevie Wonder's - Loves in Need, performed acapella with his whole band, as well as Two Strong Hearts; although, as usual - anything John sings is brilliant. For an idea of John's higher range, listen to (audio only as it was a soundcheck/warmup recording) his cover of Led Zeppelins' - Black Dog - Epic! Maybe - just start at the top and work your way down; you have months/years of reactions to react to.
@.fairlie7186 thank you for the info on nuclear disarmament & the Berlin Wall. Of course it would’ve made a huge impact. So very proud that we call John “ours” I doubt I’ll ever hear another Australian voice like his. We have SO MANY incredible musicians in this great brown land. My nephew reminded me in the no so distant past, when asked on the final RocKwiz “what was your first concert” (I’d forgotten) he responded “my Aunty, who’s here tonight took me to see John Farnham Whispering Jack!” My nephew? John Butler of Trio fame.
This is was originally released by Mondo Rock in 1982 on their album Nuovo Mondo but was not released as a single so was not widely known. Ross Fraser geve this song to John when looking for songs to release on his Whispering Jack album.

This was written for him
In Australia here he's known as the voice!!!!
I saw John perform this song with the writer of the song, Ross Wilson, many years ago in Melbourne... it was MAGIC!!!
Check out “burn for you” live from this same concert
A Great reaction yet again to another of my favourite John Farnham songs. Those little bells are called 'Finger Cymbals' I believe....they are like Tiny drum cymbals.
Don't worry love. No rush, don't stress. You are doing fine !
This was written by Ross Wilson but is a John Farnham song as he was the singer to record it. Ross is an amazing song writer.
John is a North Melbourne supporter as well 😀
Had the same feeling as you mate,a haunting beautifully sung song one of the best performed songs of all time! Its right up there brother! 😮
Aside from his wonderful voice, John's sense of fun can be seen in the following: John Farnham - Angels LIVE 2000. It is worth a listen.
John farnham beautiful human thank you so much for reaction ❤️

John has the ability to paint a picture when he sings a song. He triggers our feelings and imagination.

This song is a masterpiece, lyrically and musically. A sublime love song. John adds that extra magic. It is my favourite ballad.
Thank you for your reaction and you are a part of our family !
The little magic sounding instruments are called splash cymbals! This song still gives me chills.
For me this is his signature song - it's a such gorgeous song - reaches into your very soul and transforms you. Thank you Ross Wilson (composer).

It is a great version of the song, and you hear both intentions of the song in their vocals individually!
This is genuinely one of the most romantic songs ever written.
You need to see the heavy rock side of John > Insane guitar/drums, high intensity as John Always deliver. The song is ALL OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS Live

I think the instrument you thought was a clarinet is a soprano saxaphone and the little bells are finger cymbals.
Another lovely reaction. Thankyou❤
Correct on both counts.
Yes 👏🏻
@@Dr_KAP haha, except I spelt saxophone wrong (deduct a point) : (

A sprinkle of magic ia a great way to deCribe the cymbals 😊 💥

Ross Wilson is an Australian music legend from an earlier generation.
@@tonyquinn8405 Ross is only two years older than John. If you check their bios on Wikipedia it appears that their budding careers in music started circa 1965.
@@r.fairlie7186 yes but his success came earlier. He continued in a different vein.

No, Ross Wilson wrote this song for John to perform, and put on his debut adult contemporary album Whispering Jack.

Soprano Saxophone, there four sizes in the Saxophones this is the smallest than the Alto, Tenor and Baritone

Not a cover he just didn’t write it but Ross wrote it for him.
Mondo Rock sang this first in 1982.
Clarinet. It is closely related to the saxophone. The same fingering I believe.
Not a cover. Ross Wilson wrote it for him to sing. Nobody could sing it like this
Mondo Rock sang this first in 1982.
I not very informed regarding what's what about instrument but in English I believe is a clarinet
❤
clarinet
