Ran stock, K&N, AFE dry and BMS at the dragstrip with no improvement in performance or sound with my Base 19 NPP A8. No codes from any of them. More likely would see some sort of a improvement on a Z06 or ZR1. The AFE I would say has the best quality of the ones I had tried, I was not impressed by the Quality of BMS that I received and the lack of customer support phone number. I had not tried the AB.
I didn't have any issues with my BMS filter but when I heard about this attack blue nanofiber and the filtration it has I had to try it out. Light years better than the other ones in terms of build quality.

The BMS filter is $70 with the forum coupon and flows more air. It isn't reusable but about 30k miles with the most filtration. The washable filters do let more dust and dirt through which if you have a Non-Z06 is much worse but the Z06 filter is in a slightly better housing to not get pelted by sand.
You saw the condition of mine and that was only in there for about 5,000 miles. The price difference is easily worth having a reusable filter. The nano fiber definitely does not allow more dirt in it actually filters out more than the BMS or stock filter does while allowing better flow as well. I did some research on it before I even decide to talk about it and this nano fiber is really good stuff for the air filters.
HorsePower Obsessed I have 22k on mine (Z51 car) and it's in slightly better shape. I do blow it out with compressed air when I do oil changes though. They still flow fine even when slightly dirty. The oiled style filters and Nano filters do have less filtration especially after cleaned properly. They do work better for forced Induction but not without a cost of long term durability. On our 1200HP ZR1 (LS9) a higher flow filter matters for racing. When we tore into a 50k mile old rebuilt LS7 that had a few K&Ns and a 230k mile OEM maintained one guess which one had less wear and was cleaner? Both using the same throttle body, manifold, and difference in intake filters was the only thing. The higher milage engine did get RPM heads installed when we opened it up but we were curious. Weird finding but I still run my Nano filter on my Spec Miata since I do open the engine up every other season.
Geez, your car SHINES. Beautiful. How can an air filter possibly cause a CEL? What is the code from the CEL? If an air filter flows better, other numbers might be off, like the amount of air passing the MAF sensor, and also LTFT. But neither of these things are necessarily related to the air filter as far as the MFC is concerned. OMG. Where do you drive? Needing oil is exactly why I DON'T use K&N. Your car sounds GREAT! It's too bad nobody makes a decent, yet inexpensive exhaust system. It'd be nice if someone made something a hair quieter than an open pipe. Considering the technology is so basic for muffler building, it is shocking the lack of decent choices. Borla is good, but way too expensive considering it's just pipes and cans. Cans with baffles, as mufflers typically are, is still VERY low tech.

I changed out the BMS filter after about 5,000 mi and it looked a lot dirtier than I thought it would. it probably didn't need changed but honestly without dirty it was at 5,000 mi I probably wouldn't have pushed it past maybe 8 to 10 at most. I would imagine the attack blue filter will fit in the GM upgraded intake housing but unfortunately I'm not 100% sure.
Another great tech upload Justin. So the ZO6 now breaths a little easier and cleaner. I thought I noticed it had some allergy related wheezing in your earlier vids. 😂 Now IF this was MY Z06, ;-) I'd install an aFe CAI. They do advertise more rwhp and no tune necessary. Have you explored CAI's as a a possible mod and if so, what has your research come up with? Staying with filters, have you changed your cabin air filter yet? I believe I have seen some filters similar to what we can obtain for our home HVAC systems for those with allergies. Save the Wave.
I have changed my cabin filter. First thing I do with any used car I buy. I looked at the afe interested but they didn't advertise any more power than just a new drop in filter so I figured I'd try that first.
As to the aFe, I was referring to their whole CAI bolt-on system, not just the filter. It's great looking and did add more power. The same applies to their C7 system, or at least it did two years ago.
I knew you were referring to the whole system and if I ever tune this car I'll get a full intake (that's where it makes it's most power) but comparing this drop in filter to a full intake system on the dyno is within a few horsepower of each other. It's not worth the extra money to spend on a full intake unless you plan on tuning (and being above 680whp) from what I've read at least.

At the time when I did mine, the write up was no tune necessary, but I had ECS do a tune at Carlisle, which was the only way to go since I also had ARH headers, performance cats and x-pipe installed. Man did that wake the C6 GS up. Now I've got no problem keeping up with the C6 ZO6s.
Notice any difference on throttle response compared to the BMS? That’s actually what I’m looking for without getting a throttle controller or intake. People seemed to rave about BMS in that regard.
Throttle response feels exactly the same as it did with the BMS. I really think this filter is just as good as BMS and most aspects but filtration is better and it's reusable so it seems like a no-brainer to me.
@@LT4POWERED That's one way to look at it but another important one is, now it needs replaced and at the tune of 89.99 that's gonna get pricey every 5k miles. Reusable is definitely the way to go and the nanofiber filter promises better filtration so it should do even better but it can be cleaned and reused! 👍
I thought of that too but I’m just trying to look at the glass half full. Even that crappy stock air filter should last longer than that. My only concerns are: how easy is the TKO to clean, what kind of soap do you use, and will it rinse out well enough or can the soap clog it up too. That’s rhetorical though, I’m not expecting you to know the answers.
@@LT4POWERED It doesn't require any special soap just something that can cut through grease. I don't see any reason to believe it wouldn't rinse out well, but that's really up to how well you rinse it. Time will tell, though.
You put in a air filter and you Put the mic behind the exhaust? You should put the mic by the front clip to get intake air difference in sound. The intake can only use so much of the air it inhales. Im A bms owner and mine gained about 7 extra on top end and about 9 on the low end of the rpm range.

I’m not sure if they didn’t let the revs level out or what. What’s your process? I’m not sure if your Z06 and now ZR1 would be any different as far as firmware since your ZR1 is newer. Lol you should do a video of doing launch control in your ZR1. I don’t think anyone has done that yet in a ZR1 let alone a manual ZR1!!!! I really want to try my launch control in my manual but I’m scared 😬
Hey i got a question. I just recently purchase a 2016 8 speed stingray. It has aftermarket exhaust. Not really sure about if it was tuned or not. This car is my first introduction to the corvette platform and v8’s as a whole. Now when i dirve the car it feels like a manual, meaning i can really feel the upshifts and a slight bit of the down shift of gears.is that normal or typical of vettes with aftermarket exhaust systems.
From what I've experienced the 8 speed auto is actually pretty good at it's job and shifts pretty fast. IF it was tuned it could shift harder and faster making it feel more like a manual. They have tunes out there specifically for tightening up the shifts on the 8 speed auto.
hey question i'm want a get a bottom flat steering wheel but its in 2016 and up years what do you think i should do buy a aftermarket steering wheel or buy a 2016 corvette and up in stingray models??
Whenever I got my ZO6 I really wanted a 2016 for a couple different reasons but the prices were higher so I got a 15 instead. The 16 stingrays Will give you a couple different things like the option for front cameras Android auto Apple carplay and auto cinching rear hatch. basically what I'm trying to say is if you can swing a 2016 at least I would do that.
I'm using the K&N on my C6Z. Once a year, I use CRC's MAS cleaner. Just had my oil tested by Blackstone Labs. Excessive silicon contamination is usually a sign of poor filtration. This was lower than normal. Normal standard was 10ppm. Mine with the K&N was 8. The stock Donaldson was 7. Not much difference.
So I changed out my factory Air Filter on my Zo6 and put in the Attack Blue. When I drove it the engine light came on the car said performance is reduced and the car ran like Shite!!!! I put the original bac in and it was back to its old Awesome self! So, my question is what do I need to do to add the Attack Blue?
May sound odd for a filter but a tune should take care of that. Some filters/cars will cause a CEL because new air mixture is running rich and likely to affect gas mileage and performance. Contact a tuner for more professional guidance.

I haven't done that yet, no but there is definitely a "butt dyno" feeling of more power and a more responsive throttle. The difference in price is worth it when you look at the fact that Attack Blue filter is also reusable while the BMS isn't. With that said, the seat of the pants feeling is that the attack blue produces a tad more power than the BMS.

I'm not overly obsessive about whether or not I see HP gains or etc, etc, etc and I don't necessarily buy into CAI's for the C7 since the stock box is a CAI box. So this filter was definitely a no-brainer for maximizing potential without spending several $$$ on an aftermarket CAI. It does seem like it's breathing somewhat better and I like value, so being washable/reusable makes it a worthwhile purchase for me. JM2C.
I have the BMS filter in my '17 Z06 along with a custom tune from Steve at RDP Store, Tony Mamo Ported TB, Borla x-pipe and NX Supercharger lid. Do you think it would be worth it to swap out the BMS for the TKO Attack Blue?
K&N air filters require oil and don't actually filter the air that well. They have been proven to not really be that good. They help increase power by filtering less. Nanofiber allows better filtration with better flow without oil.
Personally, I do not believe any simple static filter, with the same surface area, can have better flow and the same filtration. If it lets more air through, it lets more dirt through. The only answer to more flow is more surface area if filtration is maintained. That said, I still use high flow oiled K&N filters because I'd rather have the power than the filtration. I've done a lot of testing, and a larger K&N adds noticable power and throttle response, and I'm sure it does NOT filter as well a cheap paper element. But I have never seen a credible study that nano/perfect filtration is needed, either. It seems that anything that can pass through any reasonable filter isn't going to do harm.
Harm? No, but it will lead to dirtier oil faster. That is where any dirt from your intake ends up. The idea is to filter the best you can without sacrificing flow. Nanofiber is the answer to that. There is a lot of research out there suggesting this to be the best setup for filtration and air flow. K&N filter will flow well but not capture as much dirt and the oil used on the filter will make it harder to clean and a possible problem to MAF sensors.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Its actually a pretty complex trade space. For example, doubling your flow rate is easy, just add a custom intake with two of the OEM filters. BMS makes an N54 intake that splits to accommdate two filters in just that way, thus doubling the flow. But doubling the surface area, whether its by adding 2X the folds to a single element, or by adding another filter element, ALSO exactly doubles dirt passage. You could accomplish the exact same thing by using a single filter with media that is half as restrictive and half as effective--K&N for example. So it's not always so obvious what attributes you are trading, or if more expensive larger surface area filters are better than cheap media with less filtration.
Original Paper filter 6$ ??? You mean 60$? In Germany the original paper filter costs between 80-120$ and it's exactly the same filter as shown in the video. I bought a K&N for 70$ because I can't be bothered spending 100$ just on a simple paper filter every 5k miles or so. Ridiculous! Filtration power won't be nearly as good as the original one but good enough.
The nanofiber has been tested to filter just as well if not better than stock while also flowing better. It's a different material than a K&N, it's literally the best of both worlds.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thanks for the answer. There have been multiple tests with naturally aspirated engines (even LS1) and air filters which allow more airflow, but an increase of power couldn't really be measured, so best of both worlds sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
Regarding the TKO Nano Filter, ordered my filter on July 12, but I have received nada. Contacted TKO twice, each time they promised to get right back to me with status but they never did...credit card charge has now been disputed.
I know they were having some issues with a flooded facility. I know it doesn't look good but I'm sure there is a reason for it. Ed is a great guy and I'm sure he has every intention of getting the product out to you. I'd try to contact them one last time before completely giving up hope.
I am going to buy my air filter from this company called general motors, from what what I gather, they have a couple of engineers who have experience in the internal combustion engine. Show me your flow bench if you are going recommend ban air filter, give me something to rely on other than your opinion. Pressure drop at a known flow rate with a given particle size (microns) end of story.
Right. And it's actually suggested to be replaced at least once a year maybe more depending on the climate you live in. Replace it three times and you're at the same cost as a reusable filter that also gains you some horsepower. Actually seems like a no-brainer to me...
@@HorsePowerObsessed Actually, To increase HP the filter would have to be less restrictive and that usually(not always) means less effective filtering. Different strokes for different folks.
change the filter for what. improved performance? No. Check engine light? Perhaps. to spend money on something that can't be seen but makes you feel better for no reason
if you really want to think that way then you can change it just so it's reusable and you don't have to purchase another one whenever the stock one gets dirty. There are a lot of other benefits that I listed in the video but for the naysayers, it's still reusable. 👍

I did see a 5hp and 5tq improvement on the dyno by simply removing the black plastic headlight adjustment cover passanger side under hood.

Wonder how the attack blue compares to the a&a filter that comes with the kit.
You should of compared the k&N filter as well. Take a Vacuum and install these air filter and see which one resist the best. That's a true test.

Since the Attack Blue was noticeably bigger, was it hard to get it in to the holder and get the front lid closed on the filter housing?

It was a little more difficult but nothing serious.
I just replaced my stock filter with the Attack blue, I had to cut the end of the filter housing to get a nice solid fit. Works perfectly.

Reusable is definitely the way to go and the nanofiber filter promises better filtration so it should do even better but it can be cleaned and reused! 👍
I thought of that too but I’m just trying to look at the glass half full. Even that crappy stock air filter should last longer than that. My only concerns are: how easy is the TKO to clean, what kind of soap do you use, and will it rinse out well enough or can the soap clog it up too. That’s rhetorical though, I’m not expecting you to know the answers.
@@LT4POWERED It doesn't require any special soap just something that can cut through grease. I don't see any reason to believe it wouldn't rinse out well, but that's really up to how well you rinse it. Time will tell, though.
You put in a air filter and you Put the mic behind the exhaust? You should put the mic by the front clip to get intake air difference in sound. The intake can only use so much of the air it inhales. Im A bms owner and mine gained about 7 extra on top end and about 9 on the low end of the rpm range.
The filter specifically stated it makes the exhaust louder. That's what I was testing.

Hey i got a question. I just recently purchase a 2016 8 speed stingray. It has aftermarket exhaust. Not really sure about if it was tuned or not. This car is my first introduction to the corvette platform and v8’s as a whole. Now when i dirve the car it feels like a manual, meaning i can really feel the upshifts and a slight bit of the down shift of gears.is that normal or typical of vettes with aftermarket exhaust systems.
From what I've experienced the 8 speed auto is actually pretty good at it's job and shifts pretty fast. IF it was tuned it could shift harder and faster making it feel more like a manual. They have tunes out there specifically for tightening up the shifts on the 8 speed auto.

Whenever I got my ZO6 I really wanted a 2016 for a couple different reasons but the prices were higher so I got a 15 instead. The 16 stingrays Will give you a couple different things like the option for front cameras Android auto Apple carplay and auto cinching rear hatch. basically what I'm trying to say is if you can swing a 2016 at least I would do that.

I'm using the K&N on my C6Z. Once a year, I use CRC's MAS cleaner. Just had my oil tested by Blackstone Labs. Excessive silicon contamination is usually a sign of poor filtration. This was lower than normal. Normal standard was 10ppm. Mine with the K&N was 8. The stock Donaldson was 7. Not much difference.

So I changed out my factory Air Filter on my Zo6 and put in the Attack Blue. When I drove it the engine light came on the car said performance is reduced and the car ran like Shite!!!! I put the original bac in and it was back to its old Awesome self! So, my question is what do I need to do to add the Attack Blue?
May sound odd for a filter but a tune should take care of that. Some filters/cars will cause a CEL because new air mixture is running rich and likely to affect gas mileage and performance. Contact a tuner for more professional guidance.

Depends on what you want to spend. The drop in filters are a lot cheaper and give you pretty close to the same results as a whole CAI does.

Thank you! The replacement air intakes were around the same amount horsepower gained as the drop in air filter so I figured I'd try it first.

I'm in the process of doing the dyno on it now so I should have some numbers to report shortly. Just soap and water, no oil.

Did you ever do a dyne after this to see if there was any performance over the BMS? Have you tried any other like AFe?
I haven't done that yet, no but there is definitely a "butt dyno" feeling of more power and a more responsive throttle. The difference in price is worth it when you look at the fact that Attack Blue filter is also reusable while the BMS isn't. With that said, the seat of the pants feeling is that the attack blue produces a tad more power than the BMS.

I'm not overly obsessive about whether or not I see HP gains or etc, etc, etc and I don't necessarily buy into CAI's for the C7 since the stock box is a CAI box. So this filter was definitely a no-brainer for maximizing potential without spending several $$$ on an aftermarket CAI. It does seem like it's breathing somewhat better and I like value, so being washable/reusable makes it a worthwhile purchase for me. JM2C.

K&N air filters require oil and don't actually filter the air that well. They have been proven to not really be that good. They help increase power by filtering less. Nanofiber allows better filtration with better flow without oil.

Personally, I do not believe any simple static filter, with the same surface area, can have better flow and the same filtration. If it lets more air through, it lets more dirt through. The only answer to more flow is more surface area if filtration is maintained. That said, I still use high flow oiled K&N filters because I'd rather have the power than the filtration. I've done a lot of testing, and a larger K&N adds noticable power and throttle response, and I'm sure it does NOT filter as well a cheap paper element. But I have never seen a credible study that nano/perfect filtration is needed, either. It seems that anything that can pass through any reasonable filter isn't going to do harm.
Harm? No, but it will lead to dirtier oil faster. That is where any dirt from your intake ends up. The idea is to filter the best you can without sacrificing flow. Nanofiber is the answer to that. There is a lot of research out there suggesting this to be the best setup for filtration and air flow. K&N filter will flow well but not capture as much dirt and the oil used on the filter will make it harder to clean and a possible problem to MAF sensors.

Its actually a pretty complex trade space. For example, doubling your flow rate is easy, just add a custom intake with two of the OEM filters. BMS makes an N54 intake that splits to accommdate two filters in just that way, thus doubling the flow. But doubling the surface area, whether its by adding 2X the folds to a single element, or by adding another filter element, ALSO exactly doubles dirt passage. You could accomplish the exact same thing by using a single filter with media that is half as restrictive and half as effective--K&N for example. So it's not always so obvious what attributes you are trading, or if more expensive larger surface area filters are better than cheap media with less filtration.

Original Paper filter 6$ ??? You mean 60$? In Germany the original paper filter costs between 80-120$ and it's exactly the same filter as shown in the video. I bought a K&N for 70$ because I can't be bothered spending 100$ just on a simple paper filter every 5k miles or so. Ridiculous! Filtration power won't be nearly as good as the original one but good enough.
The nanofiber has been tested to filter just as well if not better than stock while also flowing better. It's a different material than a K&N, it's literally the best of both worlds.
@@HorsePowerObsessed Thanks for the answer. There have been multiple tests with naturally aspirated engines (even LS1) and air filters which allow more airflow, but an increase of power couldn't really be measured, so best of both worlds sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
Regarding the TKO Nano Filter, ordered my filter on July 12, but I have received nada. Contacted TKO twice, each time they promised to get right back to me with status but they never did...credit card charge has now been disputed.
I know they were having some issues with a flooded facility. I know it doesn't look good but I'm sure there is a reason for it. Ed is a great guy and I'm sure he has every intention of getting the product out to you. I'd try to contact them one last time before completely giving up hope.
I am going to buy my air filter from this company called general motors, from what what I gather, they have a couple of engineers who have experience in the internal combustion engine. Show me your flow bench if you are going recommend ban air filter, give me something to rely on other than your opinion. Pressure drop at a known flow rate with a given particle size (microns) end of story.
