Hello sir @Lockstin & Gnoggin I really find it strange how Latias Latios have the same pattern and body figures with Togepi Line, can you try to figure out any relation?
I'd actually say that male Indeedee's blue face markings look more like a pair of pince-nez glasses, the kind you might see a very fancy butler wearing.
I figured the psychic type is from the idea that the best servants could anticipate their master’s needs so well it would be like they were reading the mind
Hi, I'm here to explain German Pokémon names. And this one is really easy. Indeedees German name is "Servol", which comes from "Sehr wohl", which is literally means "Very well". The "Serv-" may also pull from "servil" (or servile im English), which basically means "subserviant". And that's it, I guess. As always, thanks for reading and until next time! ^^
I'll follow-up with the french name, then! Indeedee's french name is "Wimessir", based on the words "Oui, Messire", which is simply our version of "Yes, sir". Nothing really complicated, working on the same wordplay as the japanese name.
Regarding the separate gender moveset. I believe Meowstic was the first Pokémon to have different moves based on gender. While the males would learn more defensive moves on level up, the females would learn more offensive moves upon level up instead. Example: Male’s learn charm at level 15, but Females learn charge beam at level 15 instead
@@Gnoggin It’s no problem! Used one of the fellas in a pokemon Y play-through and it blipped in my head like a lost memory. Amazing video as always too amigo!
One thing not mentioned about the Japanese name is that it ends in 'san', which is a Japanese honorific, so it kind of sounds like a semi-Japanese version of "yessir", something a butler is also known to say.
Honestly Indeedee is very underrated imo A maid/butler pokemon is just very creative. And the executed well with indeedee. Its quite a fine Pokemon indeed
I always thought male Indeedee had the white on his face resembling glasses and the blue triangles were the support piece that is attached to the bridge of the nose, like a Pince-Nez
I also think that they might be based on Brownies, helper fey that appear at night to clean your house. It makes sense, especially considering they pretty much exclusively appear in the fairy type zone of Galar
As for their Normal-type...I'm guessing it has to do with their association with household roles. Homely. Familiar. General. Those feel like fitting terms for Normal-types, don't they? So what's next for Galar? Nickit and Thievul? Stonjourner? Galarian Darumaka and Darmanitan?
I've always had a (unfounded and illogical) belief that Indeedee was originally planned to be a Galarian Audino but once they settled on the differences between genders gimmick, they gave it its own name and changed its design slightly
Actually both Audino and Indeedee were created by the same designer Saya Tsuruta. YES BOTH (with Goodra, Goomy, Aromatisse and Galvantula) So that theory could be true. But the difference was so big that it doesn't work as regional variant anymore and convergent evolution for closely related mammals wouldn't work either. Or it's just like every Fox Pokemon, related to each but no regional or convergent evolution.
Well if they are somehow related in the future I suppose it would make sense they're different Indeedee that moved to unova ended up not needing to do much work, and thus over time evolved into audino, keeping the caring parts but acting more like the typical American nurse
I think the “dede” part of “Indede” also comes from “Didi”, meaning sister in several south Asian languages. The term is also sometimes used to refer to women who serve as domestic laborers (maid type work) and it’d be British cause of colonialism.
I love you Maxel! There's also the Hob Goblin, which, despite what popular media has warped them into, was essentially a house elf, but one who comes willingly and is treated well.
Meowstic is first. But also if you consider Nidoran♂️ and Nidoran♀️ as just gender dimorphism, then nowadays they naturally learn Crunch and Poison Jab from level-up resepectively.
My main thought on Indeedee's Psychic typing was a "The best servants know their employers so well, they know what they want before the employers themselves" deal, but this is a wide variety of other fascinating insights. Thanks much!
I absolutely love these two. They’re both adorable and cool. The move sets are pretty diverse, too. Well, a bit more so with the male I’d say. Mystical fire seems very fitting. I can picture it using that to light candles, an object traditionally associated with old aristocratic houses. And of course they learn expanding force which is deadly with their hidden ability: Psychic Terrain.
Pretty sure the blue triangles on the male version are to represent glasses, specifically the pad arms and nose pads, rather than a mustache considering where they are placed, you know, NEXT TO THE EYES. Never heard of a mustache being all the way up there before.
I´m pretty sure that rather than a mustache the blue triangles in male indeedee are meant to be like the glasses that buttlers stereotypically tend to use.
funny how they intended the male one to be more offensively oriented with trick room, and then gave that move to the female one on accident due to a glitch with tera raid dens.
Ahh, my favorite pokemon! I remember catching a male and naming it croissant. I got that thing to level 89 in my first playthrough of sword. There's just something so appealing about that grumpy face...
gonna unwrap the whole animal thing for a second to suggest - Nanny Goat and Billy Goat? Nannys were a popular thing in victorian britain amongst the rich for child care, and billy goats gruff is a popular english childs story.
I actually really love Indeedee and I'm planning to do a run of scarlet with it as my starter. Never got around to using it in SWSH and it shows up way to late in SV. Just decided to torture myself an matsuda method a shiny one for said playthrough on my violet version first.
There is one thing I didn't quite catch that I don't know was explained: where Indeedee's Normal-type comes from. Like, sure, it can be said that with them doing menial tasks as housekeepers for their Trainers, it can be seen as an average day on the job, but I'm not quite sure if that's the main reason why they got their Normal-type.
I’ve been using indeedee on a competitive team recently with my new favorite Pokémon Armarouge and so I’ve gotten to really like indeedee and so i so happy for video❤❤😊
I think the whole entire reason Indeedee is a Psychic Type is solely because they are a butler/maid. Telekinesis is VERY useful for those service-type jobs and without telekinesis, their tiny bodies would be ill-equipped to accomplish certain tasks that a butler/maid are required to do.
I wish you said something about Audino, because I believe there is a link with Indeedee somewhere. Both species have similar body shapes and their names are wordplays in most languages. It might be just the same thing as for Diglett/Wiglett (convergent evolution) but I don't think Gamefreak said anything about that in Gen8.
5:47 Casually I just finished working on this play in class and to reference it I called my shiny Grimmsnarl (recently caught) Puck as it's pokedex description reminds me, and a lot, to this character. I'm not sure if you have or haven't but if you haven't can you pretty please do a video over Grimmsnarl? And why is it that in its shiny in turns pink and white haired?
If they ever make another Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game (which they probably won't), I would imagine them incorporating the female Indeedee's in a maid cafe.
Great vid! Something that's pretty interesting regarding the 'theatre is for the high-class' point is that the UK especially didn't really go for that, especially when Shakespeare was writing - while theatres like the Globe definitely had seating for the rich, there was also floor space for the poor called 'groundlings'. This is why Shakespeare spends so much time weaving dirty jokes into his political intrigue plots, lol. Just something I thought was interesting, keep it up

5:56 “theater is very traditionally a platform of entertainment exclusive to society’s highest of elites” Y’know, I’m pretty sure Shakespeare himself would disagree with that sentiment

Indeedee was always interesting. While it admittedly made me think of Audino with the rough body figure, and Meowstic with the different gender forms having different moves. But much like many Pokémon, holding the pair on their own merit, they were rather fascinating.
4:28 They are sheep. Some japanies word for servent or butter or something sounded like their word for sheep so it became a pun in japan. This is not the first case we have had of this.
