@I'm AnesonOD What's your point exactly? 60 fps is not the same thing as 60 hz. You're talking about framerates, I'm talking about the number of times the screen refreshes itself each second. 60 fps is indeed good enough, but 60 hz is not.
Wow...surprised at the performance of Crossover games. Given you are basically running the games through two levels of emulation, I expected significantly worse performance. I was considering getting an M1 mac, but now I think I am pretty much sold.
This is impressive, however I don’t think big AAA Games are gonna come to MacOS anytime soon. The problem is MacOS is just a pain for game devs because metal is the only modern Graphics API available and since that is exclusive to Apple it would be a lot of work for what is still a tiny amount of market share to port games over.
My 2014 15" with a discrete Nvidia GPU would run it, but never at 60 FPS on the built in display. And let's not even mention the fact that the fans would be running at full speed while trying to do it too. This is a major improvement, IMO.

Mid setting? 30 fps? plus, windows gaming laptops have sucky screen, with poor color and miserable brightness, except those with over 2000 dollar ones.
Michael Gotama running on ARM. there you go there’s the reason to hype it up. Running an x86 application on ARM that uses a Microsoft Windows only API.
Apple was smart to supporting external peripherals on their i-Devices. This means that when you run those same apps on a M1 Mac, the support for your computer peripherals is already there
Allright, got mine today with 16 gigs of RAM on board. And oh my! This is the first Macbook that actually can be treated as a gaming machine, I can tell you that. You can compare it to a 3-4 years old gaming high-end PC notebook. And by high-end I mean high-end. I have few Alienwares 17, one with a GTX 1080, one with a GTX 1070 and some older Aliens with lower specs. For gaming I use a desktop with an RTX 3080. Why am I saying this? Because I'm a true gamer and for me it was a real pain that I couldn't play games on a decent quality level on my Mac. But as I have a really nice comparison with PC gaming setups I must say I'm impressed with the M1 chip. It's just awesome! And I have tested two demanding games without native M1 support, needed to install Rosetta. Doesn't seem to affect the performance, didn't observe any input lag and... to my surprise I was able to play these games with above Full HD resolution (2048x1280) and get decent framerates on high settings. Wow! And it didn't even get too hot, though the fan was spinning (but with very low noise). On my previous Macbook these games were able to run in 640x480 on low settings. I'd say the M1 chip is something close to a mobile GTX 1070 - that's the kind of performance I get on it with Rosetta, so it's more than I have expected. Apple did a great job with this chip, really great. Now I'm downloading some more games from Steam to check them out and will try something that supports the M1 chip, but if you think of gaming, yes, the new Macbook Pro is just the best Mac you can get for this kind of money and you can really play games on it without much compromise, with good resolution, nice graphic settings and with decent (above 30fps) framerates. Best Mac in years, I don't need to carry two laptops with me if I wanna play on the go.
Congratulations on making the 500k Mark. I remember when this channel had just started. Both Vadim and Max were on a another channel before they decided to go on their own. Which was a way better decisions!
Pretty damn impressive! I never had good results with CrossOver on my x86/64 Mac to begin with, so the mediocre results on that end don't amaze me one bit. I'd nearly recommend you to install the Parallels beta for M1 and try running Windows and some AAA Windows games that way. You'd probably even get away with running FF12 at a decent frame rate that way.
8GB of Unified Memory might be sufficient today but given that the lifespan of many MacBooks is several years, would seem to be prudent to get the 16GB model of you're buying now to allow for increased UM requirements down the line?
Hahah, the gamer metamorphosis: “Oggh DID YOU SEE THAT?!” “Get out of here bro” “Gotcha, Gotcha, Gotcha” Edit: wanted to add, yes the M1X which might double the performance is already a win. But now I can only wonder what then with the rumored Apple GPU... damn.
you guys do realize the refresh rate on macbooks is 60 hz meaning it doesn't really matter what fps it is as long as its over 60. If you want to be serious with gaming you need at least 120hz.
@@piechos6040 depends on the game you’re playing and its pretty awkward to do that on a laptop. You might as well buy a gaming laptop from asus or something.

@@evacody1249 Ok, but how many watts do those systems consume? Hundreds. The crazy part is not that we can play Witcher 3 on a laptop, that was possible years ago. The crazy part is that Witcher 3 works ok on an emulator, which is binary translated to ARM instructions on the fly - so basically two levels of translation/emulation, done by 10W all-in-one chip. That IS crazy.
@@mrplasma7094 Yeah... I’m not an Apple fanboy of any sort (I’ve used a MacBook for two years, then returned to Windows), yet after the premiere of M1 and having in mind that this is the lowest Apple Silicon performing chip ever, I think that x86 laptops are in serious trouble and they have to innovate right away. I’ve just sold my x86 laptop today and now I’m just deciding whether to go with the Air or Pro. Fanless experience of the Air dealing with 4K footage is appealing as hell.
The point is that this is running using integrated graphics that uses 5.6 watts under full load, while emulating Windows x86 code into Mac x86 code, and then Rosetta translates that Mac x86 code into ARM-based code.
Performance is impressive, I've gotta give Apple credit there but the temps on CSGO have me concerned. 91 degrees is absurdly high, though it is in line with previous Macbook models. My biggest hope for the M1 is efficiency and cooling, I'm hoping CSGO is just a one off.
Cyberpunk would definitely blow this thing off. Also running a 7 year old tripple A title at less than 60 fps isnt anything to brag about. Kudos to them for the efficiency tho

I was happy to see it not only capable of playing games but surpassing my expectations of what an arm based processor could do. Thank you for your review, I'll be ordering my M1 16gb.
Macs have a bright future for games
60 Hz refresh rate is not enough to truly enjoy games.
@@pergunnarvikmjlhus3597 He did say in "the future". It's not good now but things will definitely improve.
@I'm AnesonOD What's your point exactly? 60 fps is not the same thing as 60 hz. You're talking about framerates, I'm talking about the number of times the screen refreshes itself each second. 60 fps is indeed good enough, but 60 hz is not.
Macs have a good future for gaming. but 200 fps is a noticeable difference to 60
Wow...surprised at the performance of Crossover games. Given you are basically running the games through two levels of emulation, I expected significantly worse performance. I was considering getting an M1 mac, but now I think I am pretty much sold.
Hmm, let’s see what gaming on Mac OS is like
Right now Mac OS/iOS/iPadOS are basically the same OS. We already can see what gaming on iOS is like.
This is impressive, however I don’t think big AAA Games are gonna come to MacOS anytime soon. The problem is MacOS is just a pain for game devs because metal is the only modern Graphics API available and since that is exclusive to Apple it would be a lot of work for what is still a tiny amount of market share to port games over.
diablo 3 is 8.5 years old, it's definitely not a benchmark, my 2014 13" was running it loll
My 2014 15" with a discrete Nvidia GPU would run it, but never at 60 FPS on the built in display. And let's not even mention the fact that the fans would be running at full speed while trying to do it too. This is a major improvement, IMO.
12:57 I don't think it's a good sign that the fan was still at idle while the CPU already reached 92°C.. I hope Macs Fan Control will get an update so we can control the fans manually again.
Still can’t decide who’s more apple fanboy “Max tech or Everyday Dad”

OMG its back to back to back episodes. You brothers are insane. 🤩
The M1 MBP is the goat! Sleek, stylish, portable and powerful! I enjoy Sims 4 every now and then. It works, I even have mods installed on High settings.

WOWWWWW!!!!! This is Feckin' Incredible, it really is hard to fathom that a game can be run on the M1, while on a Windows system you require a sizeable dedicated GPU to match the performance. The mind is truly Blown 🤯🤯🤯
Wow! That’s so exciting. If the performance is this good now, I can’t wait for the MX1 chip as more apps and games are supported. Macs will finally be awesome at gaming, so people don’t have to buy a separate gaming PC. I’d love to have a MacBook Pro with iMac and be able to have game and do professional work on both. Thanks for the excellent review and content, Max Tech!
lol macs are garbage either way ur paying 1300 dollars for a laptop that heats up to 92 degrees celcius where as a gaming laptop or a cpu cost about the same with better ventilation, performance, price worth, and more warranty. You can buy an entire gaming setup for the price of a iPhone 12 Pro Max when all ur getting is a bigger screen. I have a 250 dollars lcd with 1440p resolution and 165 Hz and it has better performance than the iphone and doesnt heat up or run out of battery. I have a RTX 3060 12 gb and 32 gb ram for 1350 and the iphone pro

Soooo... it can run CSGO on low settings in lower than 1080p resolution and GPU is dying from overload. Yeah... my PC from 2010 was running it on all settings maxed out in 1080p. Great stuff. Magical innovations from apple. Try running Quake 2 RTX, Cyberpunk 2077 or Crysis Remastered.
Can't wait for Apple to release dedicated gaming laptops, they're going to be powerhouses!
@@The_MEMEphis Hmm, I wonder why Apple advertised the M1 powered Macbooks advertised to be able to play games. I'm just saying, if they do start making Gaming MacBooks, that would be cool. Considering I can play most games at max graphics with the M1 Pro..

PC gamers: I can't play anything under 240fps
Mac gamers: we got 7fps!
You guys gotta do more Windows DirectX11 games. I was blown away by The Witcher 3 perfomance.
@Michael Gotama No one gives a shit about windows laptops tho. I have a 2080Ti rig, soon a 3090 but for a solid laptop, with the best battery out there and some decent mild gaming on the go? Yeah, keep that 700 laptop with 4h battery life man.
Michael Gotama name one, please. I am using Omen 4 with 16G Ram and GTX1060, witcher 3 only runs around 60 fps on ultra setting. How do you define decent? Mid setting? 30 fps? plus, windows gaming laptops have sucky screen, with poor color and miserable brightness, except those with over 2000 dollar ones.
@@rgamer9422 that's why gaming desktop exist

Michael Gotama running on ARM. there you go there’s the reason to hype it up. Running an x86 application on ARM that uses a Microsoft Windows only API.
Apple was smart to supporting external peripherals on their i-Devices. This means that when you run those same apps on a M1 Mac, the support for your computer peripherals is already there
how did you full-screen the ipad games???
I'm buying a MBP Pro m1. I want to game too. should I get 8gb or 16gb?
Congratulations on making the 500k Mark. I remember when this channel had just started. Both Vadim and Max were on a another channel before they decided to go on their own. Which was a way better decisions!

M1 Performance is very impressive! I've been doing gaming videos on my M1 Mac Mini and it's doing incredibly well. 💪
Wtf? Only 14,000 views? This should be at 500k by now. Great video man, very well done.
Not yet, probably "M4/M4X" will be ready for "Ultra Detail 60 FPS With Advanced Techs.(Ray Tracing, DLSS Alternative etc.)".
Hahah, the gamer metamorphosis: “Oggh DID YOU SEE THAT?!” “Get out of here bro” “Gotcha, Gotcha, Gotcha”
Edit: wanted to add, yes the M1X which might double the performance is already a win. But now I can only wonder what then with the rumored Apple GPU... damn.
Probably an Apple eGPU. I don’t think they want to make gpu card like nvidia and amd

you guys do realize the refresh rate on macbooks is 60 hz meaning it doesn't really matter what fps it is as long as its over 60. If you want to be serious with gaming you need at least 120hz.
could you buy an external monitor running at 120hz and then get over 60 fps?
@@piechos6040 depends on the game you’re playing and its pretty awkward to do that on a laptop. You might as well buy a gaming laptop from asus or something.

Ok, Witcher 3 blew me away. That is insane. Could you please do the very same test, I mean: Diablo III and Witcher 3 - on M1 Air? Does it throttle like crazy or is that playable, which would be an even higher level of craziness?
@@evacody1249 Ok, but how many watts do those systems consume? Hundreds. The crazy part is not that we can play Witcher 3 on a laptop, that was possible years ago. The crazy part is that Witcher 3 works ok on an emulator, which is binary translated to ARM instructions on the fly - so basically two levels of translation/emulation, done by 10W all-in-one chip. That IS crazy.
@@vharijjen Good point, imagine the performance if apple scales up the gpu’s wattage 😯
