This and FF7 were the first games to properly nail cinematic presentation. I give this the nod because of the voice acting and using in engine cinematics, it makes the experience much more cohesive and immersive
I think a lot of people miss that that's supposed to be Mantis' "mind control music" that's actually playing in universe, so that line isn't actually meant to be a fourth wall break.

7:40, I never considered that strategy, shooting the guards a few times but not killing them, and letting Meryl kill them. I was chokeholding the guards or running in the back. I'll try that on my attempts from now on.

Where'd you lose so much time on Mantis, bad cycles or RNG on reappearance? I'm going over your run to take notes, so I'm trying to determine what you might or might not know about the game based on certain things I've noticed. I saw a minor mistake on Ocelot, I couldn't tell where you lost 3 seconds on Tank, I like your strategies for Ninja (looks like you manipulated that entire fight through proper zoning), but I'm curious how much of your bosses were actual manipulation vs. RNG
Oooo Carcinogen, another amazing speedrunner, love your RE runs. I am not record holder on MGS 1, I did just get Big Boss 1:47:26 the other weekend though and can try and answer if you don't mind. (I am not sure how much you know, so I will cover the basics.) Ocelot Ocelot will always start in the upper left corner and holding Square as the cutscene fades will have snake auto-aim on him for an easy first shot, then running around as Slade shows and essentially soft locking him (as I couldn't think of a better term), Once he is stuck in this loop, the timing between shooting and running has to be kinda precise so he won't run away. (This may vary from difficulty, but not overly too much) Before we get to tank, I believe Slade lost 3 seconds on the Tank time due to the vent glitch. A second or two were lost from trying to position in the right location and another second or two was lost when he was out of bounds. You can hear him accidently lean up against a wall instead of going around it. Tank When starting, 2 options are given. 1: Throw a chaff if you struggle with dodging the cannon 2: Follow the ideal route as shown in this video to avoid 2 cannon blasts. at 12:04, if you pause the video, you can see some faint vertical lines in the snow, these help for avoiding mines later on, but in this fight, if you position yourself almost in the centre of the 2nd and 3rd line, the tanks route will become predictable. From my personal experience, depending on what your location is as you climb down the rock face will determine the tanks path until you interfere. After that, the tanks path is mostly random. I normally cook the grenade the frame I can see the tanks cannon for the first grenade, on the second grenade, (if done correctly) You want to line yourself up with the 2nd to last wheel and face about where the cannon meets the head of the tank. Once you gain control of Snake again, throw the grenade as soon as possible. Ninja I am not an expert on the ninja sadly, but typically when I start the fight out, if you run up and combo him once (when he is taunting at the beginning) and once your combo animation is completed, stay still and he should drop down south. Main fight: my ideal fighting spot for the Ninja is in the upper location of the arena, (In the narrow hallway) from experience when I fight him, he seems to always jump in the direction that gets him as far away from me as possible. There are a few anomalies, however this is the strategy I use. On the first time you strike him, he will jump away On the second time, he will try and stomp you 3rd and 4th will jump 5th will stomp and so on. Invisible fight: You have to be quick with this one as he pretty much insta-kills you if you mess it up or are too slow. He will show you the first location assuming you deal as much damage as possible, Ninja will do 2 more invisible jumps. If using a stereo headset // speaker system, you can hear exactly where he lands, he has about 7-8 locations to land, typically in corners, 1 in the corridor and 2 in the middle of nowhere. You can also use first person to see where he lands too. Slade crouched on the first invisible location to force the ninja into the stomp animation, this is definitely a safer alternative to hoping you can hit him before he hits you. Last fight: Lastly, he will start doing some David Copperfield stuff on you and teleport when you approach him. As shown by Slade, the best location to get him is in between the glass and the cabinet Otacon is in, as he will have nowhere to teleport and will always spawn right in front of you. Now timing is key here, punch too early and you will get some glass sound and hit nothing but air, punch too late and well you won't be punching, you will be dying :), his shield locations are the exact same regardless of gameplay, but have huge hitboxes last note for the Ninja, holding the socom out is a good time saver, 1. it helps run a few pixels faster per second, 2. saves time opening the R2 Gun menu and choosing it later to shoot him in the ball phase and 3. he will also be confused at the start as you are holding a weapon out, allowing you to get an easy first blow. Just realised how long this is, I can create a proper guide if you or anyone would like one. I am far from the best and definitely far from Slades level, but thought I could try and help. I'll stop here for now, but the majority of bosses are manipulated // planned starting locations, Raven 2 fight is a good example.
