the fact is that fermentation fish and other stuff is all around the globe. i remember in a europe country, they fermented fish by buried it in the dirt. cannt remember where
*in crab heaven* How did you die? I was eaten by an octopus (slight murmering) I was boiled to death (hushed gasps) I was MARINATED TO DEATH (everyone screams)
Why you teasing a food that people eating , and teasing to the life of crab it self , that food mostly eating by human being , you cannot change the facts , I am a vegan and raw vegan but I never look down on what people eating , it is their ways of eating and my family too mostly eat meats and seafoods except me is a vegetarian but I don’t mind watching people eating meats or seafoods
Anime lover and a gamer it is sad for me cos I don’t want to kill the crabs indeed but non veggies sure they like to eat it, it is okay so as my family love to eat crabs but when they kill the crabs I stay away from them cos I feel pity for the crabs
I really enjoyed this. Thank you for taking the time to create it. I appreciate the people that you interviewed. They shared a piece of their history with us.
I'm craving this so bad, now. My mom used to make the best gejang. Unfortunately she passed a few years ago. I learned most of her amazing recipes, but I haven't made gejang before. I'm going to experiment until I get it right!
I’ve never tried it but it looks delicious. I live in Canada and I grew up eating raw egg mixed with rice, sashimi and I’ve tried yukhoe (raw beef) and I haven’t yet died. Fermented food is good for you. I didn’t learn about the weird fear of fermented food or raw food until I took a foods class in middle school and my teacher said: “that sh*t will kill you! It’s unsanitary.” I was just like: 😒 *really*? So in the west we can eat all this chemically processed junk but not healthy cuisine that has existed for centuries. Ok.
Those are the same crabs that taste good in gumbo! I grew up eating these crabs when my Dad was stationed in Maryland, my Dad making gumbo, and my Mom making gaejang, and eating other yummy seafood! Oh the memories!!!
Noticed familiar music here! The background music from 22:04 onwards is composed by Yamashita Kousuke for the anime Chihayafuru. The title of the track is “Katsudou Kaishi”.
sega310982 china has drunk shrimp. shirmps were still alive and put into alcohol . they drink a lot of alcohol so they stop moving( still alive) => food is serve
Like everything else, fermented crabs is a cultural food. It has been many years since I've had fermented crabs, which was common at my grandparents dinner table when I was growing up. I loved the tastes of fermented crab in soy sauce. It is something people ate seasonally, and whilst eating it, you just appreciate the flavor of the occasion it's food at its simplest form. Unlike complicated European Cuisine. You cannot compare fermented crabs to 'artisan cheese' from Europe as an example. I love both, they can only be appreciated at the time of eating and the occasion.
I thought fresh water mitten crabs were only available in Shanghai west(2 hours), small rock crab they catch with light are the most flavorful crabs, I think. great program! I was born near Taean and have great memory of eating crabs.
What kind of soy sauce they are using to marinate the crab? I would love to try to make marinated crabs. I love kimchi and I learn to make just a simple kimchi. There are so many things to learn Korean dishes.
It took me 18 years to build up enough courage to eat raw crab... but once you try it, there is no turning back. I have sensible stomach, so I can’t much... but it is soooo good.
> Comments saying fermentation is gross
> Same people eat cheese and drink alcohol
> GG

Had this many times before. I love it. It's a salty and delicate flavor. Gooey too. And over rice just makes that much better.

I wonder what it's like being a crab in the marinade...

One Korean poet said the crab might say "It's evening, time to turn off a lamp and go to sleep" to her eggs in his poem 'Marinated' aka '스며드는 것.

I love crabs. I usually boiled them with salt and pepper. You eat them with plain white rice. That's heaven.
It's not raw people. It's fermented.

Interesting!
I've had this in Thailand. FUCKING DELICIOUS! Didn't die. Not really fermented. More like cured. Thais use fish sauce instead of soy sauce.
The spicy variant is best!
