It’s insulting to compare Iron Maiden to aerosmith
For sure...no way in hell that should happen!
Why ?
Very early aerosmith was pretty good plenty of harmonys but they evolved into a steaming pile of pop rock shit ..up the irons !!
Aerosmith and Iron Maiden are completely different. Hard to compare. However, Aerosmith as writers of music were often brilliant. They are not slouches.
Agreed.
One of the biggest bands in history who didnt get any radio airplay. Their legend grew from fans who spread the word.
I bought albums based on the cover art in the 80’s and 90’s, amazingly that worked out for me.
@@richardaaron4454 Me the same. Later on thrash albums i decided by the speed of the drums ONLY. :-) Also pics of the expression of the guys on the rear cover... if agressive.... i bought instantly :-)
Yes that’s them
This is my neighbor's favorite song, whether they like it or not
They will learn.
lol
Agree. I play this on guitar everyday loudly...
Agreed.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaa
Maiden often get called "thinking man's metal" and I honestly think it's a great description.
Their lyrics are unbelievable, often inspired by classic literature or history, there's not a single member of the band who isn't a complete master f their instrument, and they are the pinnacle of professionalism in their work ethic and behavior. Absolute class act.
As a side note, this record, directly or indirectly, inspired every metal bands that you guys have reacted to till now.
YES
Amen.
True
Underreaction of the century 😂😂😂 This song is a damn masterpiece.
Well that's the beauty of it isn't it? That we all have the right to an own opinion :).
Without it, music wouldn't evolve :)
Each instrument tells a story of its own. Big time under reaction
Not to be funny here, but can you really know your Metal if you do not know Iron Maiden, Really??, aside from the fact that you might not like it, which is impossible in itself, unless they only listen to the new type of metal and they don't look exactly like young'ens ??
@@bojnebojnebojne Do not agree at all, music in this specific genre and in this case Maiden with their complexity of lyrics and master musicianship can not evolve any more and certainly does not need to evolve any more imo
RIP the drummer Clive Burr, always...
Iron Maiden are one of the best metal bands of all time. Many of their songs are adaptations of books and movies and philosophies. Check out much much more..."Somewhere in Time," "Number of the Beast," "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," "Heaven Can Wait," Wasted Years," "To Tame A Land," "Flight of Icarus," "The Prisoner,""The Evil That Men Do"...there's so so many great songs by them.
No similarities between Iron Maiden and Aerosmith at all! :D
Long hair, swanky clothing in the 80's haha that's about it
GranDuke of Nothing-at-all agreed. Maiden are their own monster
Just the long hair and maybe similar patterns of spandex 😆
GranDuke of Nothing-at-all .AT ALL INDEED!!!
Aerosmith has turned into a pop Band.
Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are probably the two most important Metal Bands and the foundation of 80's Heavy Metal.
They set the sound, look, and even culture of Heavy Metal from 78 - 94
Maiden is our Tupac in a way is how I explain it to HipHop people.
Dio?
@@mikmastenbroek66 Your right, Dio was super important as well.
Judas priest is ok but I think u should include black sabbath and motorhead
@@haniyehiaaboultaif8288 True, but Black Sabbath still was holding onto that 70s Hippy sound, the NWOBHM spearheaded by Preist and Maiden created the 80s Metal sound by adopting the Boston style tone and aggression of Black Sabbath and Motorhead who later followed.
@@haniyehiaaboultaif8288 black sabbath is overrated bands of all time
Cause why everyone loves DIO more than sabbath
Maiden is considered globally to be the best heavy metal band ever. The amount of classic albums, the recognition from all the metal bands and fans and the fact that they still fill stadiums with ease shows us that
Iron Maiden, it's a great heavy metal band but "is considered globally to be the best heavy metal band ever"? TOO MUCH!! They have recognition.OK. I agree! Not THE Great. ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS ever!!! There are many huge bands out there, Metallica,Black Sabbath, Judas Priest,Motorhead and many more huge bands.
Yiannis Bambarakos Metallica isn’t heavy meta
@@yiannisb.2571 Maiden outsold both Priest and Moterhead combined, thus cementing heir great status.
Maiden is to metal what Rush is to prog.
Definitely Top 5 , extensive catalog, consistent, no drama, and still putting out albums that are still platinum Maiden quality, Bruce Dickinson is one of the best stage performers to top, they may be my number 1 actually.
Saying that Iron Maiden is not really Metal, should be consider Blasphemy on your terms, they are one of the legends of Heavy Metal, if you have bands like Metallica to enjoy , you can be thankfull to bands like Iron Maiden and judas priest
Well it’s clear after hearing they are metal. You’re right about that !
Amen !
maiden is bubble gum metal...
@@missrattlehead3309 Don't talk shite. Maiden have been there forever. You know fook all
@@dirkrenegade6066 smirks...bubblegum-like i said---stuff true thrashheads cut their teeth on...tosses chin
Maiden is from the late 70's early 80s of British Wave of Heavy Metal. Probably the biggest exponent of the genre. Maiden is pure heavy-metal. Thematically they go all over the place.
Megadeth is Thrash metal. Albeit more technical, still thrash metal. Angrier.
To me the song is about a man waiting to be hanged. He's not innocent but he certainly thinks he doesn't deserve to die. The song is him coming to terms with his impending doom. He reaches the state of readiness at the end.
Thinking about death being so close will make you think a ton of stuff you wouldn't think of normally.
Probably?
Probably what?
You said probably the biggest exponent of NWOBHM.Maiden is by far the biggest exponent of NWOBHM,there's no comparison
I really dislike megadeth, but you're pushing it a bit. Mustaine and Friedman were reeeeally technical guitarrists in Megadeth's golden era. Murray and Smith are amazing on their own terms, but they're more feel guys, not as technical. And i prefer them that way. I hate souless guitar virtuosos.
I agree with you. But epicness doesn't really need to be technical. Wagner is a lot more simple than Bach or Mozart, and it's 100x as epic. Megadeth is just boring hahaha. Boring and technical. And cheesy.
Not that the Maiden guys can't be technical. But they're greatest stuff isn't super technical at all. They're just crisp, original, good fundamentals, creative guitarrists that can play with real feeling.
This my favorite band. Great singer, amazing musicians, and fantastic songwriters.
Agree!
@@VinAndSori it's a innocent man sentenced to death!
I get teary-eyed every time I hear the line "Life down here is just a strange illusion." Even though Dickinson is just telling a story, it's such an honest line about how one would feel before death--believer or not: we just don't know
This is one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever recorded... so I'm hoping y'all dig it! Posting this before I've watched the video, of course. Like a fool.
Comparing Aerosmith to Maiden is like comparing copper to gold
Also, Aerosmith is glam rock, Iron Maiden is 100% pure classic metal
Aerosmith fucking rocks man, just completely different from maiden. No comparison
Comparing two different genres... who's stupid now? My friend listen to metal all the time, Aerosmith and Iron Maiden are his two favourite bands.
Although I like both Aero and Maiden. But We(MetalHeads) Have to Say that IRON MAIDEN IS TOTALLY AN ANOTHER LEVEL OF METAL MUSIC. I PERSONALLY, THINK IRON MAIDEN'S GENRE IS NOT ONLY HEAVY METAL BUT ALSO THEIR GENRE IS CALLED IR MEANS IRON MAIDEN GENRE 😁😂 👏👏👏
@@sehnsuchtmann3538
Iron Maiden do original style ,
Aerosmith, à lot of band play like them .
Song gives me chills every time.
I have listened to this song hundreds of times. I have always imagined that the condemned man in the story was falsely accused, hence the "world that has gone very wrong for [him]". I think the line "If there's a God why does he let me die?" supports this theory.
You’re probably right
My grandmother who is crazy religious made me sit through a video series called of the dangers of Rock. It pointed out a lot of the "hidden messages" and backmasking but what it did most of all is introduced me to the coolest bands I have ever heard. I took notes and looked them up. I never had the heart to tell her that. 😉
Hahahaha that’s so terrible!! Lol !!

Hallowed be thy name. Best Maiden song. Bruce is amazing singer. I also like somewhere in time album
I can´t tell you enough how effin much I love this song. I heard this song for the first time in 1982 when I was ten yrs old. Hallowed Be Thy Name made me a life-long Maiden fan. Seen them live a bunch of times, in Sweden and in the US. If someone asked me about the top 3 Iron Maiden songs, Hallowed Be Thy Name, would make it and it´d be my #1 Iron Maiden song! #2 The Clansman, #3 Fear Of The Dark (Sorry The Trooper, 22 Acacia Avenue, Transylvania, Running Free, Die With Your Boots On, Powerslave, Sign Of The Cross, The Clarivoyant and others. Steve Harris is one of the most important people who gave me joy in my life!
My favourite Maiden song ever! Incredible live. Love it love it love it.
The Number Of The Beast is the Best One 🔥 👍 👌
Iron Maiden live will change your life.
Warning: this is going to be a bit long, so bare with me...
Megadeth is thrash metal, Metallica is a mix of thrash and heavy metal and Iron Maiden is pure/old school heavy metal from Britain, also know as NWOBHM (new wave of british heavy metal). Metallica and Megadeth sound more similar because they have the thrash roots. And the vocalist of Megadeth was a guitarist for Metallica in their very early years (before Metallica's 1st official album) and then started Megadeth as a middle finger against Metallica. You know, that whole "You do it but I can do better" attitude. Maiden has been around since the late 70s but their first album was in 1980 and it was a different vocalist. In 1982 they got Bruce Dickinson (the man you just heard) and they released The Number of the Beast, which is probably still their most successful album to date though they have released some classics. This style of metal was one of the heaviest things back then but now just sounds more hard rock than metal. Still, the band has a worldwide fanbase and is considered one of the best heavy metal bands of all time! :D
I suggest you do more songs by them. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on The Number of the Beast, Fear of the Dark, Powerslave or even epics like Where the Wild Wind Blows, Dance of Death or Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Keep on your great work. I'll be here waiting for new videos ^^ Love you guys! And greetings from Portugal

Adam Pineda *cliff notes version* Lol.
Adam Pineda Well, they do have some speed in their sound but then again I have not listened to much of their work. Mainly a few songs but that's about it.
Vin and Sori, this was very refreshing. Thank You.
So good thank you both!
Can’t believe you haven’t listened to Iron Maiden before. They had such a massive impact on music. They also cover very interesting and wholistic topics in their songs usually.
Also, they’re British :)
Iron Maiden is one of the foundational metal bands...and they are "metal metal"! These guys are towards the top of the metal all-time greats...
Great review!!! Keep up the great work guys.
One of the greatest songs of all time. And I felt that this review was pretty one-sided.
Wow you played the most influential heavy metal band of all time, Maiden have been around since the mid 70s, thats a major reason they sound different, when thrash metal bands cranked up the distortion maiden didn't, they didn't need to, with a genius like Steve Harris composing music and Dave Murray and Adrian Smith duelling guitars blowing you away, i seriously suggest Vin & Sori you have a Maiden Monday reaction time slot their catalogue is so extensive, but if you did 2 songs from their 1st album, then 2nd then 3rd etc etc, you both will become true Maiden fans and also understand the evolution of heavy metal
I actually agree with you
I hope so! Maiden have almost 40 years of material that have masterpieces from the 1st album in 1980 up to their last album brought out in 2017. There are dozens of songs of theirs I could name but the ones that are the best story wise would be Rime of the ancient mariner,Alexander the Great,Empire of the clouds and Seventh son of a seventh son.
darrell wood agreed
Agreed. I thought of Judas be my guide for them but so many amazing songs. Brave New World is a great album too and came out in 2000. Shows how they've stood the test of decades
Go figure a different view (no matter who is correct) turns to anger and results to name calling. I'll pray for you
Metallica/Megadeath are thrash metal
Maiden are straight up heavy metal
Once you’ve heard Iron Maiden you will always recognize their distinctive sound
It always got goosebumps when I listen this song!
Up the Irons!!
Sori, Iron Maiden pre-dates Megadeth and is considered British metal invasion. Megadeth is part of the thrash metal movement where they were primarily trying to play fast and loud.
Whelp...they did it...-Sori✌🏻
TRUTH Maiden was in concerts when Megadeth was in diapers
True.. Iron Maiden were formed 25th of December 1975, Megadeth about 10 years later in the mid 80s.. I saw Maiden in 99 on Ed Hunter tour and Megadeth were their guest band. After that I saw them like 5 times, been a big fan since 97 when I was 7. My dad is also a big Iron Maiden fan..
Iron Maiden became a band in 1975
@@mikewalter1111 well 14 isn't exactly the age to be wearing diapers. Unless you have something to confess
Love your reactions. Keep an open mind and keep experimenting.
This is one of the GREATEST metal bands ever!
I´d say Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath are the top 3 most influental Heavy Metal bands of all time.
plus motorhead.
And I’d would have to agree.
Members of maiden and priest are big Sabbath fans... Lol read Bruce's what does this button do...
Kim Andersson and Bathory
chucky0o - Although I agree with you Lemmy wouldn't. When asked in several interviews he always stated that Motorhead were a rock n roll band. His intro to most concerts was "We are Motohead and we play rock n roll." He hated being pigeonholed.
Sori : "No, I've never even heard of the band before" - WHAT??!! LOL. Damn, it's incomprehensible to me that someone wouldn't at least have heard the name Iron Maiden before haha. They're a gigantic band, but hey, everybody's gotta start somewhere, and NOW you know who these legends are. Easily one of the top metal bands of all time, in the eyes of many rock/metal fans. Their talent and influence on music cannot be denied. The more metal you discover and listen to, from the 80's onward, the more you'll notice just how many bands are influenced by Maiden's sound. Even Metallica, the biggest metal band of all time (popularity wise) was even inspired by Maiden and were huge fans in the early 80's.
A big thing happened in the late 70's/early 80's, in the UK. It was called "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" which basically changed the game for rock/metal. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Def Leppard, Diamond Head, Angel Witch, Tygers of Pan Tang and others. It was a new, gritty style that combated the Punk movement which started in the mid 70's. Punk was all about attitude, and you didn't need to be a great musician at all, to be Punk. Sure, you needed to be able to keep a tune going, and know at least 3 chords, but it didn't offer too much musically (in my opinion). However, the attitude and raw sound was a big deal for young angry teens at the time. Very rebellious stuff.
New Wave metal bands from the UK came along and gave us amazing music, that would then influence thousands of other bands to follow, especially in the United States. Bands like Metallica, Slayer, Exodus etc came along all of a sudden, and just made things more heavy, and added extra speed.
Iron Maiden has branched out and gotten much more successful since their raw, early days with original singer Paul Di'anno, who sang for their first 2 albums. Many people enjoy those albums more than anything that came along after them, with Bruce Dickinson (the one singing on this song). Bruce offered up a more flashy and operatic approach, as well as an eccentric stage presence. The band REALLY took off with the 3rd album (which has Hallowed Be Thy name on it). Run To The Hills' from the same album, has always been their biggest hit. You should check that out next, then some material from the first 2 records, to compare and see the difference.
Seriously! Thank you for that breakdown, I love the history of music!!
Well, that makes sense because Maiden never had the support of the mainstream. Despite of being so huge in the rock and metal community, they didn't had much radio time. On top of that, their album art was, and still is, a big NO to overzealous religious people. I remember reading an article which said that their album TNOTB was burned by religious organization. Even today you don't hear much of their work in radio, at least not where I live.
VinAnd Sori
A lot of bands tried to copy Maiden in one way or the other. In fact, many credit Maiden for the inception of Power Metal. Today's band have guitar sound that resemble that of Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer mainly because of their aggressive approach and therefore, it is hard to hear Maiden or Priest in their sound. Maiden are the biggest band that is not well known amongst the mainstream audience and that's the reason Sori had never heard of them till this point.
+VinAnd Sori Any time! Love what you two are doing with this channel. Always interesting and fun, regardless of how differently we view the world. Keep it coming. Nothing but love
If there is one perfect heavy metal song, this one's it for me.
It has it all: Interesting and thought-provoking lyrics, drama and dynamics, incredible musicianship from everyone not to mention an excellent vocal performance.
That transition at the final third of the song, the solos, all the way through the finale... man, it gives me chills every time, no matter how many times I hear it. A 10.
I love this breakdown.
Great song pick🤘 classic Maiden🤘 killer beat, great lyricism, epic story/song. Bruce (singer) is a big reader of the classics, especially old poetry, and it shows in a lot of their songs. Check out Rhime of the Ancient Mariner. Good reaction. Love you, mean it. The Tea Party-Psychopomp💯💯💯
Although I agree with you in spirit, it's Steve Harris (bassist) that writes most of the songs, not Dickinson.
If they do Rhime they should do the Flight 666 live version
Daniel Joy you're right, I just type fast and don't go into all the details for a comment lol. I didn't mean to assume it was all Bruce.
On the Wing also I think Fear of the Dark live from Rock in Rio would be good choice
Yeah, Steve Harris write this song, not Dickinson
More Maiden in future please!
I love yall's heavy metal reviews. Excellent show!
I have talked with a priest (protestant) who said this is legit his all time favourite metal song.
How did this subject come up? You go to church often and brought it up or something? Explain

So great you uploaded this when Im on the train home from work. Love Iron Maiden and you guys! Maiden is one of the most important metal bands.
Where are you from?
VinAnd Sori Im from Sweden.

best of all time. glad bruce came back. was listening to them in grade 7. im 46 now. lyrical geniouses. true metal.
Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner (THIS week plz, make an exception :P)
No, a lot of people were executed for quite different reasons than a murder and many of sentenced for murder were in fact not guilty. You cannot presume that the lyrical ego is guilty just because he is going to be executed. Think about dying because of something you didn't do or did accidentally or for your beliefs or your vision of politics in your country... It's not always about an intentional murderer and a punishment he deserved. Think about William Wales, or King Henry's wives, or Joan d'Arc.
BTW, Maiden is a classic heavy metal band, Megadeth is a classic thrash metal - different genres, different sounds, slightly different techniques of guitar playing, more pronounced bass lines (especially in case of IM), completely different vocal styles. And as we speak about comparing - You can of course compare these two, just like you can compare hard rockin' Aerosmith to galloping Iron Maiden or apples to oranges... :P
Very clever... I see what you did there
In the 1700’s in England they hung you for theft. There were 220 crimes that were punishable by death.
How can anyone but love your introspections?
Awesome Channel, you guys are the best.
Why did you assume that character in this song killed someone or even that he committed a crime? Maybe he was wrongfully accused and innocent. That makes more sense to me. :-)
Correct...
I wholeheartedly agree.
TheNumberA well, there is also the point where he says " all my life drifts before me, and though the end is near, I'm not sorry" so maybe he did something wrong, but if he deserved to die because of it, we'll never know, because we don't know the story...
g geggs , that could also mean that he is not sorry that his life is ending and that he made peace with that fact...it is really open to interpretation
true
Love the review but you are assuming a lot by the end of it. I'm not sure how you got so hooked on him killing someone, but it never states why he has been taken to be executed. I think the lyrics lend more to him being falsely accused, but it's never 100% revealed.

You guys are awesome!
Wow, Vin has never heard Iron Maiden. Good that you've changed your wicked ways :P The reason Maiden sounds different that Metallica or Megadeth (other that it being NWOBHM not thrash) is because it was a precursor of metal, it was formed in 1975.
And You guys are way overinterpreting this one: nowhere in the lyrics is it said what was the reason for the execution and if he was even guilty.
That’s what everyone says! Nothing in the song says he was innocent either! 🧐😉
Of course, but your assumption that he was guilty of killing someone and all the implications and considerations because of that "fact" went too far, IMO.
Sure because for the subject of the song it was irrelevant. His guilt or innocence was meaningless in light of his incoming execution.
VinAnd Sori
Bruce, the singer, has said in an interview that the character is innocent. However, to each their own.
Also an indication of his innocence is that he wonders why God is abandoning him now. If he was guilty he would never made that thought, assuming that all of his thoughts are completely honest at such dramatic times. Since this guy is looking for comfort and redemption, there's no point if he'd make false, misleading thoughts.
Wow! Not heard of Iron Maiden, one of the most influential metal bands ever! Influence on Metallica, Megadeth to name just a few!
It's the greatest metal song ever🤘 UP THE IRONS!
keep ur work,youre great
OK, I had a different interpretation.
The guy is obviously a Christian, so he walks into this situation with a belief in God and the afterlife. But it's one thing to SAY you believe or even LIVE as you believe under normal circumstances. Now all of the sudden, there is a STRESS moment where his faith is going to be tested. What could be a greater moment of stress than an execution?
The story is about determining what he actually believes when it MATTERS. He is having a crisis of faith. Now that the rubber is hitting the road, his faith isn't as strong. Psalm 22.
He was wrongfully convicted of something in his mind. Whether he was actually, objectively wrongfully convicted is not clear. He may believe that because he's making excuses for himself, or he may actually *be* innocent.
Throughout the song, we hear him sorta vacillate back and forth between having faith and not having it. The final screams of "Hallowed Be Thy Name" are his prayer as he is being executed. Where is he in his faith at that moment? Unfortunately for most of us mere mortals - those that are Christians - I'd imagine this is a very real thing, unlike, say, Job.
Have we considered that he may be getting executed FOR his faith? That would explain the "I'm not sorry" line, maybe..?
I also don't understand the point in getting on him about "Hallowed be Thy Name" or whatever with the language... he is crying out to God in the way that he knows how. It's about what he's thinking, not saying.
Whoa! Good point !
Was it really a good point? Because by the end of typing that I figured I was just rambling incoherently. lol
Nah it made lots of sense
It's timeless!
I love you guys!
Since I have brothers born 70 and 73 they introduced me to Maiden at an early age...Got to my first live gig in 99 and after that it has been 12 more and another now at 1 june...one of the best live acts you can see today!

Whoa!
Agree.. And i'm gonna see them live for the 8th time june 1... Can't barely wait.

If you're going to try another Maiden track, I think "Moonchild" would be an interesting choice. The lyrics are...well, I'll leave that to you guys.

Do fear of the dark flight 666 for a live show
They really should react to Rime Of The Ancient Mariner off Live after Death.
Iron Maiden is like the first power metal band.
Judas Priest was the first
That bass though... god i love it
Wow 5,5? That's just...wow. Just admit you actually want to piss us off lol 😂
Ok, you're Christians, we get it already.... Uh maybe that's the point though? But there's some really creative liberties taken here, why not just interpret the lyrics as they are? Whether the dude in the song is a real Christian good boy or not, has the ultimate enlightenment (according to your standards) or not, guilty or innocent, what he's experiencing is obviously as real as it would be for anyone in that predicament. Imo the lyrics feel very authentic and insightful, and thus very emotional and powerful (especially accompanied by the epic instrumentation). But ofc there're some interesting thoughts in your discussion as well.
BTW Iron Maiden and Aerosmith??? Lol where did that come from??? 😵🤣
I think you misinterpreted my interpretation... hey I don’t know what they were thinking comparing those two bands !! Lol
VinAnd Sori yeah maybe I did 😑

Random facts about Iron Maiden...one of the greatest metal bands of all time. They were formed in 1975 in England, their genre is NWOBHM, and are one of the foundational bands of what was to come in the 1980s (golden era of metal). Bruce Dickinson the lead singer is a commercial airline pilot and flies the bands 747 (Ed-force One) from show to show, he also is an author, entrepreneur, champion fencer, broadcaster, has a PHD, a military veteran, supposedly has a 160 IQ, and beat cancer (what did you do today? lol). Steve Harris the bassist writes a majority of the music and lyrics. Much of their lyrics/songs are historical in nature often drawing on great books, historical events, poetry. Iron Maiden has sold 85 million albums (16 studio albums) and still tours strong (over 2000 live shows) - their live sets are very theatrical and they still headline arenas. Their mascot is "Eddie" who is on all of their album covers and often appears as part of the live shows. This song gets a 9 from me...one of the all-time great metal songs...seemed like you both were digging the music...surprised by the low ratings.
Great reaction! One of the best heavy metal bands ever. I suggest the song Rime of The Ancient Mariner.
This one fun to come back to and revisit.
Fun fact Bruce Dickinson the singer was named the AIR RAID SIREN. And for good reason. Yasss!!!
I think it was originally an insult to him by a critic but Bruce spun it round.
Bruce is a fucking legend
Sori is looking like a cute "babushka".
You know in the UK it's a criminal offence to have never heard an Iron Maiden song
I gave my like before start the video, because I know this one was dedicated to me!
Iron Maiden - legendary heavy metal band - great lyrics, vocals and some of the all time best guitar and drums players - few other bands can even come close.. !
You need to do an Iron Maiden live vid for this song. They had 2 guitars at this point, but since Bruce and Adrian returned, they've added a third. The harmonizing part of the 3 guitars at the end is amazing.
I think you might have misunderstood the lyrics, for me the "I'm not sorry" was about he not being sorry that he's dying and the path his life took, as in he made his peace, he never talks about any crime or being guilty or not, so we can't assume he killed somebody, in the old days you were executed for many things, for disagreeing with political or religious views for example. Good reaction and analysis regardless, cheers!
great , guys !!!

Everytime I listen to Iron Maiden I just have to grab my bass and play along. So lovely.
Or this story could be about being wrongly accused. Now the lyrical dynamics have changed.
So true!
There are several things that allude to this theory. One it would explain the "some kind of error" statement and the "why did He let me go" line. It's one thing to be on death row for a crime you committed, it's another to be on death row for a crime you didn't commit.
I always took that from the song
I remember way back in the day Steve Harris had said it was about a man wrongly convicted of murder. The best way to react to iron maiden is to watch a live video They and Rush are the best live bands I’ve ever seen I’ve seen Rush 5 times and Maiden 7 times.. Up the irons! Yeah I’m an old fart 💨
I always thought that was the case he almost describes how the judgement bestowed upon him was wrongly given.
Guys, i've just watched your "flying whales" video, you say at some point that it is not a solution to just pass from a planet to an other one. They don't think it too, they are sort of ecologists and they do believe that humanity have to understand its planet, so please listen to the final song of that album "Global warming" i think it's really meaningful. If you want this sort of message is also expressed in "toxic garbage island", those are two beautiful songs, i would love if you could do a video about the first one or maybe both of them. You are amazing, you are capable of extrapolate the real message from lyrics and i love it!
Alright you got me after watching a few of your posts, I got hit the subscribe. As a metal person at heart I like your viewpoint.
The fact that you both were having a 20 minute discussion after this song about religion is exactly why Iron Maiden are such a great band. Great music, and great lyrics. I would recommend watching a live video for "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner". It was a book, and they did an awesome job of making this song come to life performing it live. Iron Maiden is huge into visual performance, as well as a great musical performance
Link!
VinAnd Sori, look for Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, 1985, Long Beach Arena. Awesome!
Iron Maiden' Rime of the Ancient Mariner(live)/For the Greater Good of God/The Red and the Black
Theocracy's Mirrors of Souls/Martyr
Demons and Wizards's Fiddler on the Green
Blind Guardian's The Script for my Requiem(studio). This one is a personal favorite of mine. Use headphones if you can.
For the greater good of God is such an amazing song
Also, with the 'world's gone wrong for me' part, the character is falsely accused. That's the reason he later on goes to say 'if there is god why is he letting me go', meaning why is he letting go of someone innocent while the culprit is still free. So your analysis is wrong on that one.
YES
Just like people to accuse without knowing
So many years passed... Still in my Metal list... One of the fav
That's very deep and powerful song!
