The song was written by guitarist Adrian Smith and is about spending life on the road during a tour
In the Biography, after the Powerslave tour, he went to visit his parents and ended up knocking on their neighbours door.... 😝
A lot of people have been asking for this song for awhile - good choice. The song is about homesickness and the grind of touring...I guess not very happy subject matter but the song has always felt inspiring and happy to me...the music in this song is awesome. The main verse "Don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years. Face up... make your stand. And realize you're living in the golden years" always felt like a great message to live in the moment. “Carpe diem”
A lot of people have been asking about this song and Alexander the great ....maybe it will go around.... the reactors are doing kind of the same songs more or less... these are 2 staple songs in the Iron Maiden catalog.
Perhaps it's just me, but I always find 2 songs dovetail to this one very well, Infinite Dreams and Heaven can wait. Wasted years deals with living in the past, Infinite dreams deals with hope and dreams and Heaven can wait deals with inevitability.
The greatest song ever about homesickness and the grind of touring has to be 'Moonlight Mile'

actually there is no gallop in wasted years , it's one of the few songs where steve is playing "strait 8ths" - eighth note pumping , meaning one note to a beat , it more of a chug than a gallop.

This album (Somewhere in Time) deserves a live listen. Almost every song is as catchy and epic as this. There's even a song about running called The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner.

Alexander the Greaaaat! You have to do it 🤘🏻 and Helloween - Keeper of the seven keys 🎃 the "Guy" is the best band mascot ever, Eddie! Hes been on every Maiden album cover in one way or another and is a bandmember just as Bruce or any of the other in the band 🤘🏻

ok, Ive been asking for Phantom of the Opera for about four months now (and i'm not giving up on it) but i'm going to change it up a bit. Nov 11 marks the 100 anniversary of the end of WW1. @@michaelvondrake7489 for sure! my intro to Iron Maiden was hearing Genghis Khan, pretty much stopped me in my tracks! I love both versions of Maiden, but those first two albums had an aggression that i could not find in subsequent albums.
Paul was a great vocalist but between the two, I would have to go with Blaze Bailey. He has an amazing range but there isn't anybody like Bruce.
@@hotpockets3660 Paul had some addiction issues Steve Harris was not willing to let take a toll on the band. Bruce was completely bought into the concept of Iron Maiden. Love D'Anno but (imo) Bruce just fits...
I know Bruce is more versatile and has a wider vocal range, but I'm not too interested in him singing Paul's songs.

Yes indeed! It's such a great insight into Iron Maiden. The only thing better would be to see them live. I was so lucky to have seen them twice in the '80s. It was so long ago but truly amazing experiences.

The appreciation of what youve already got can be the adventure and if you live every moment in consideration of whats coming next, you can forget to appreciate what is happening in this moment. When youre searching you need to allow yourself to find every once in awhile.

Apparently this song is a reflection about its previous tour (World Slavery Tour) that burnt out the band to the point that a split of the band was feared on those days..... Adrian Smith (guitar) was a great relief for Steve Harris (bass and main songwriter) that save the day after and exhausting tour....and they ended realizing that they were living the "Golden years".

Heck yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaa!!!! One of the most beloved Iron Maiden songs. You have to check a live video performance even if you don't do a reaction video. Every time I see Iron Maiden in concert I.end up spending over $100 in merchandise because I always feel I didn't pay enough for the show they put on.

Wasted Years is an ode to life on the road. In their early years Iron Maiden almost worked themselves to death. In the space of 8 years they put out 7 studio albums, constantly touring for each, with only one 6 month break (between the 5th and 6th albums) during all those years.
That ‘guy’ is Eddie the bands mascot created by Derek Riggs and has predominantly on the bands album covers and shows,check out Strange World from their first album,slower even metal ballad sound to it but still a great track👍🏻
