Just put the Gatorade bottle over the spout. The tip the lawn mower over. The oil goes into the bottle! Works great.
Great idea👍
Love easy good ideas.
I need a third arm for this method but thats just me. Thanks for the tip.
You are correct! I've always used a Tropicana orange juice bottle. They're tall and won't slide off! 👍🏻
🤯
Man... that is the cleanest used mower I ever saw. Great video.
Thanks man, she's 8 years old now and still looks the same. Guess I take pride in taking care of what I love. The key is wiping it after each use with a damp cloth after I brush off the debris. Appreciate your feedback, and thank you for watching.👍
Why change the oil on a perfectly new Honda mower? Just joking. It is clean, thanks for the instruction mega.
Sometimes the most basic things still need to be explained! I was looking for a drain plug underneath the deck! Glad you made this video that’s 5min. Long. Would’ve taken me 30 minutes to find my manual!😀. Thanks!
Same man… somehow flipping it over felt like the wrong thing to do.
"I was looking for a drain plug underneath the deck!" Same. I ended up taking off the transmission bracket thinking the plug would be underneath that. Now, I'm just hoping I got it back on right with the belt on the inside of the bracket.
A local gave me his lawnmower last year. He can't cut the grass anymore. I was looking for the same thing with the plug under the lawnmower. It looks like many comments have to do with looking for the drain plug on the bottom.
I'll run the mower for a while and then drain it out.
Thank you for saying that because I did the same. 😂
Same exactly, I was like where the heck is that screw! LOL
Now to hope I can find my funnel in less than an hour SMH lol
Great simple and clear video.
Will do it this weekend.
Was going to take my mower into a shop to get it done because I thought it was going to be difficult.
Saved myself $58 and waiting 2 weeks to get it done.👍👍👍
This was great, no annoying long winded and protracted self serving speech at the beginning.
I've done exactly as you said, I did give it a tip back too while it was draining. This released another tablespoon or so. I used 5w/40 synthetic, A3 B4, seems sweet!!!! Cheers!!!😮 😊
nice simple thank you. I finally retired my 30 year old craftsman. And bought the one of these kings of the lawn last year. Thanks again.
I have a Poulan mower with the exact same Honda motor. I had been taking it in for yearly maintenance, and now I can do it for myself.... Thanks for the video - it was very instructive (and shows how easy it is to do).
Thank you for making this video. We were also looking for a drain plug underneath the lawn mower, Honda made it easier for us. After watching your video, it took us less than 5 minutes to do the oil change.
Thanks for the refresher. Just super tuned the old girl up: new oil, plugs, filter and adjusted the self propelled wire. Now have to jog to keep up with her lol.
I'm in Australia and I have the exact same mower as you do. I bought it off a guy who imported a whole bunch of these U.S. issue Hondas. It has been with me for 12 years and it's still going strong. I love it !
They make those Northern Territory COVID interment camp lawns look spectacular, so I'm told.
Honda - the best
Yep! Mine is 15 and strong as ever!
Make sure you check without screwing the dip stick in, I had been doing it wrong and the video corrected me! Thanks!
Yep. I ruined an HR215 engine this way. Ran it for years low on oil and never realized it until too late.
I've had my Honda HRR216K9VKA for two years. Thanks for the video. Seeing how easy oil change is, I'll take care of it this weekend.
Easier than I thought ! Thanks for the step-by-step (I'll be doing this in a few days successfully 8-)
I was gonna pay someone to do it for me, but now I know I can do it myself
Thanks 👍🏼👊
Those are great little engines. My Craftman mower has one that's about 15 years old and I change the oil every 2 seasons(Canada) ; so far 2 plugs , 2 mower blades and maybe 4 air cleaners.
Thanks i will try to do this myself. My dad used to do it for me but he never showed me how to actually do it, now i know. Thank you
Glad to help, thanks for watching.
Thanks a lot man I've just changed my first lawn mower oil change you made it so easy. thanks again
You bet👍👊
I personally like to add a little bit of fresh oil just after draining. About 300ml and give it a few idle pulls without the spark to try pick up all the old oil lying about. Then drain that and top up full amount with fresh oil!
Thanks to you it took all of about 15 minutes which included a filter change too.😊
Haven’t heard “peace out” in awhile! 😆 Thanks for the help!
Thanks for your tutorial, on the oil change, Castrol is just one of the best to use, it's used in most high end performance cars, MB, my rebuilt GMC 350, turned out awsome, Honda lawnmower is no nonsense product.
I appreciate the clean and clear video footage!
Honda builds the BEST lawnmowers in this size class. ☘️🌿🌱
Simple clear and to the point! If you hadn't spilled a little oil it wouldn't have been real. LOL great video thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for the video. Who knew that you just turn it over and pour the oil out, I was thinking there must be a drain plug somewhere 🤔! For those not in the US, I convert 13 fluid Ounces to be about 380 millilitres. That worked out about right for my mower which strongly resembles yours.
Nice vid clear and concise. I have a similar unit can’t go wrong with Honda power equipment.
Thank you for instructions! very simple, easy and clear! Worked like a charm for me :)
Glad to help, thank you for watching.
Good video I've got a toro with Honda eng always got different answers on checking the oil after you fill it some book says how you do it just stick it in other guys says screw it in but I'm glad I watched your video
Thank you so much for the simple yet thorough explanation!
You are so welcome, really glad to help out. Thanks a million for watching and great feedback.🙏👍
Short and very informative. Thank you.
Last Honda mower lasted 25 years still ran but a lot of blue smoke they're the best!
Helpful vid. Thanks! Hope ya beat the rain that day!
Every other year I change my oil I resort to this video... thankyou sir
I watch my own videos whenever I forget how to do something. Lol
Thanks for watching👍
Wow what a clean engine. Can tell you take pride in it. Change everything on my Honda mower at the start of every season.
Thanks so much, I wipe it all down after every mowing. I feel that if you take care of what you own, it'll take care of you.👍
Do you really use regular engine oil? Not 4 cycle oil?
@@edubb2491 What's in the Honda Tune Up Kit. Believe it is 10W 30. What they recommend. Use the same in a Generator and Pressure Washer that are both Honda.
@34dawgsgo ok..ty..lol..i.misunderstood I didn't realize it was 4 cycle lol
Thanks for Yu our help, I have the same engine in my lawnmower and it was very Easley to replace. I wasn't sure how much oil engines takes, i out 13 oz and it was perfect.
Great video. This made the oil change easy.
Thanks Man….. Excellent Video.
Clear and to the point .
Some people make you suffer mercilessly before they
ever get to the point of the video…..
It’s PAINFUL 🤬 ❗️
Thank you for your input, I respect your time thus no there's need for the lollygagging before we inform.👍

Anyway, Thanks for the great video ✅. Big Help and you made it easy 🤟
Great to know. I’m not very handy but told my daughter there’s gotta be a filter. Watch your video and even I’m confident to do this.
You got this.👍
Good clean video..just one tip, tilt your mower so that the oil inlet is more upright, easier to fill, also a small piece of wire bent over and inserted next to the funnel..
I used the vacuum method with the oil going directly into a Glass Jar. 10 minutes total time and made no mess.
Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the awesome pointers and the great soundtrack as well! I have the exact same mower! Strong runner.
Good video. Highly recommend to replace air filter each oil change.
Cool, 10-4. & helpful. Thanks, to you.
Thanks for sharing, good video bro. I would not do it over the precious grass you just groomed. Any easy spill will make a spot. Cheers!
AWESOME THANK YOU.
LOVE ❤️ HONDA PRODUCTS
I use an oil extractor, no chance of spills at all.
Pour very slowly and use a long neck funnel when filling with oil.
Helped me do the oil change on my Honda Lawn Mower. Thanks.
Nice video on the oil change. i do the same also. great tips.
Great informative video, thank you!
Thanks for the video. I'm doing mine today.
Thank you for this helpful video.
Thank you. Great video. Fixed my Honda lawn mover.
My pleasure, always glad to assist.👍
Thank you for this. Very helpful. And awesome music too. Rock on!! 🤘
Thanks Brotherman, Happy 4th.🇺🇸
Jeeeeeez you tip it out. I took the blades off looking for a plug( needed to sharpen them anyway they had a full radius on them
Gently stick it in there... lol. Thanks for a great DIY video
Nice lawn mower.I have the troybild with Honda engine. Nice cruiser background!
Thanks Adam, can't go wrong with that good'ole Honda Engine.👍
This lawn mower is great: easy to start and heavy duty
Very easy
Very well presented.
Thanks.
I put a 4x6 under the oil side wheels. Gives some extra height when I tip it to drain the oil. Better clearance to the drain pain, and less spillage.
This was great.
Thanks. Do you have a video on cleaning the carburetor?
Haven't had to clean my carb yet, but I'll post a video if I do, thanks for watching.
Thanks for the helpful video, very informative....not so much for the background 80's porno music
Thanks for your service. 👍
My pleasure, thanks for 👀watching👍
Thanks for the great vid & leaving in the spills. Good to know I'm not the only one - ha!
Buen trabajo, solo una pregunta, estas maquinas no tienen filtro como los autos ??
Si lleva de aire y esto cada cuanto se cambia ?? Gracias suerte
Awesome video, thank you!
Good video, now I can do mine as well. Your mower looks so very clean. Have you been using it everytime?
Great instructional video!
Thanks 👍
I changed my lawnmowers oil for the first time in like 7 years idk how it still ran fine. H O N D A P O W E R
I didn't do the heating up the oil thing so it took like 2 minutes for the black sludge to come out. It runs fine now, I put full synthetic
My Honda has a fill not replace policy in the manual.
I have never changed the oil on mine and its over 10 years old. I have to do this soon.
do not do it over grass. you will spill and damage the grass.
place a large cardboard on concrete, so any drop of oil spill will be absorbed by the cardboard.

I do my oil changes at the local beach so I don’t have to clean a thing up. I don’t even need a catch pan.

I just let we go where she sits, ital come back in the spring
Thanks for taking the time to get this up here. I got my Troy-Bilt as a serious clearance markdown with no manual. I was looking for a drain plug, like on my old mower. Your video solved that: there is none! Thanks again!
My pleasure, sure glad I was able to help. Thanks for watching.✌
Thanks for the video. The recycling tip was especially useful.
Hey thanks. I hope y’all are well and living in truth.❤
thank you, I just cleaned it and was in disbelief that there was no plug on the underside of the machine. I got this, but I was told that 5W20 was for small engines that ran hot. It's worked great for my power washer.
Use the oil grade that the manufacturer tells you to use. Usually with small engines that is SAE 30, 20W-50, 15W-40, 10W-30, and in reallllllllly cold areas perhaps 5W-30. I don't think 5W-20 is proper for a pressure washer nor in hot climates.
I would switch that oil even tho it seems fine now in long run 20 at is to thin run straight sae 30 for 4stroke engines
Thanks for the video. Mentioning the viscosity to use would haved saved me more time, but thanks.
GREAT JOB!
I have a Honda engine on an older Craftsman mower and it's been doing just fine for about 18 years. The only issue is that the owner's manual lists the oil capacity at 12 ounces but that will over-fill it. I've found that 8 ounces brings it to the proper level.
Part of the oil most likely remains in the engine... also remember to let the engine run for at least 2 minutes so that the used oil is more fluid and comes out more easily, as indicated in the video.
If you don't know exactly how much oil you need or you don't have a graduated container, just use 2 similar plastic bottles, fully drain the used oil in one, then place the 2nd bottle side by side on a flat surface, and fill the 2nd bottle with the exact same amount of new oil. After the oil change start the engine, let it run a bit, then look at the dipstick and add some if needed.
I did 3 oil changes today without any manual using this method, after each refill I put the used oil in a larger recipient, and repeat with the next engine... 1 mover, 1 power generator, and 1 weed eater, one oil tank was still full, another needed a small addition, and the 3rd much more.
Nice video…well explained.
Great video. And ya, be safe everyone.
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Thank You Sir, really glad that I was able to help..😃
megalodon1 theres a drain bolt on the bottom dumass!
james palmer No there's not, dumbass.
Tom Fellows not on the Honda gvc 160 engines I've used, and that's all we have at work plus my husqvarna Besides that's actually more work that just tipping it. Make sure gas tank is empty and takes seconds to empty, while most with drain plugs on bottom have a metal cover that's screwed on which takes more time to remove than it takes to drain oil.
Thanks for the Great to the point video, wish I'd have gone Honda over my husqvarna.
You Bet Mark, thanks for watching Sir.
Thanks for showing me how yo change the oil but to my surprise you used regular car oil I was about to use Honda oil
I have this Honda lawnmower from 2016. Believe it or not The oil has NEVER been changed as im aware of, but has only been used once probably every month & a half-2months at the most until winter. The cord is seized up wont pull. I feel the lack of oil changes is the cause of this I hope smh & gonna try to manually spin it with the spark plug unplugged. This is great looks even easier than my car 😂 (first lawnmower)
thank you, well done
Much appreciated.
Thank you. I did my first oil change successfully. I poured 12 oz of new synthetic 10 30 weight (go it at HD) specially "designed" for lawn mowers. I did not mow my lawn first as suggested due to oil being totally worn out and emptied it out without any hassles. Now that I know the DIY (thanks to you) I'll definitely keep up with periodic oil changes. After how many lawn cuts do you recommend an oil change to be done?
Depends on the size of your lawn, I do mine once a year because I don't need to mow during the dormant months in Texas. Generally after every 20-50 hours of mowing, an oil change will be required.
Nice video. I noticed on my Husqvarna that uses the GCV160 Honda engine doesn't have the extension oil filler tube like yours does.. it's a PITA to drain oil because it gets all over the deck. However after looking at yours I found it. I didn't even know that existed prior to your video. Good stuff!
ALL I DO NOW IS SIPHON THE OIL OUT. ITS SO CLEAN AND NO MESS!
great video thank you
Nice mower. I only use honda oil on my honda. Premium fuel. No isaues since I purchased it 5 years ago.
Thanks for the help....!!
Well done...😅😅😅
I dispose of it in my fire, super eco friendly, lots of added BTUs.
excellent! Thanks!!!
Thanks Sir!
Thank you!
This video is very informative, but I wish todays lawn mower engines had the old conventional drain plug which made this operation a lot easier and a lot less messy.
great help thanks 👍
Sure things, so glad I could help. Appreciate your feedback and thanks for watching.👍
Just got the used mower ,couldn't find the drain plug ,got on U-TUBE, problem solved.
I still use a 2011 Honda and it runs loud and proud
You should also check the air filter. Using the mower normally generates lots of dust and grass particles in the air. Should at least check the air filter and either replace it or blow it off with an air compressor since it is probably dirty.
Hello, how often is recommended to change the oil & air filter?
At least once a season.
