When checking oil level ...Do not screw the dip stick back in...only rest it on the lip of the filler tube . (as per page 32 point 3 of Honda manual.)
Good to know.
Excellent video. Clean edits and easy to follow through instructions. Looking forward to future DIY videos.
Thanks Ramzey! Appreciate the comment.
If you put a 4x4 post on the side of the wheels that you are tipping onto, you create a high enough clearance to not pour oil all over your mower deck. You then can leave it to drain for a few minutes.
Good tip. I’ve always struggled with that lol. Thanks for watching.
I used a bottle on the edge of the oil spout, minimal spillage.
Time to do a winterize video for the same mower!!!
Did you read my mind? That video is coming in a few weeks. 👍🏼
@@fondupot Awesome liked and subbed for this one, will look out for the next one!
Awesome Andrew! Thanks for the sub! Keep you eyes peeled for the winterizing video.
Simple and to the point! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent content!
Blowing out the filter with a compressor pokes tiny little holes in the element. Just tap out and replace when too dirty.
Good tip. Thanks!
Just a tip, when you measure the oil you are not supposed to screw it in, you just pull it out, clean it and put it back in without screwing it, leave for a second or two then read it.
Yes you’re correct. I goofed in the video
@@fondupot no worries, I did the same when I was trying to read the oil then I found out you just put it back in without screwing it.
After probably eight plus years I finally checked valve clearances. They were still within specs.
That’s good!
Really thorough and well done video. 👍🏻
Thank you!
My air filter also has a green form thin pad that was inside.
Thin foam
That’s a pre filter. Helps catch more particles. Some models are equipped with that.
I got a HRA215 from my Dad. It hadn't been ran in 5+ years, but I put some ethanol free 4 cycle gas in and it was starting 1st pull. I replaced the pull cord, turned it on its side and replaced the blade . flipped it back flat, and now the pull cord won't budge. I removed the pull cord and spark plug and turned the motor with a 19mm ratchet. It's very hard to turn, but isn't frozen. Any advice on what might be bound up?
It’s possible since it sat so long the motor seized. You can try to free it up by rocking the blade back and forth. Make sure you remove the spark plug before doing this. Also make sure it has fresh oil.
2 days ago it started first pull. Before I replaced the pull cord bc it was frayed, it was still spinning freely. After putting it on it side and replacing the blade, it became very hard to turn. Going to remove the blade tonight and check out the blade brake clutch.
After you remove the blades. See if you can spin the motor freely. If its still hard it might be something internal in the motor.
Took the blade off and it fired first pull. Put it back on and acted like it's seized. Took the clutch pack off and couldn't get it compressed back on. May need to take it to a shop, but at least I know its not seized.
Interesting. Let me know what you find out from the shop.
Great video, really appreciate it. I'm prepping a Honda for a cross country move and this will help. If I run it dry, I'd still like to get any remaining gas out of it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I wouldn’t run it dry. I would just get it low enough and then turn it off. Then tip the mower over and drain the rest of the duel out. Let the mower cool off before you try that though. Thanks for watching!
Home Depot. I think this exact model is discontinued. But there’s a newer version of it out now.
Model# HRN216VKA
No. It’s a newer version. Like I said the model in my video is discontinued. But the one I just sent you is the newer version of it.
It means my model is no longer made. And it’s replaced with a newer version. Like how iPhones get new models every year. So do lawn mowers….
How I know which spark plus is the right for me lawn mower??
Your owners manual should tell you.
I have this model. Do you know the part number for the fuel filter for this model or a compatible fuel filter?
I don't believe this mower comes equipped with a fuel filter. I just checked mine and it doesn't appear to have one.
@@fondupot I've checked mine and it does. It fits in the fuel line going into the fuel tank. I think those I've seen on Amazon will replace it okay. Thanks.
Well then, you’re right! I just googled it and found a video showing how to replacing it. Learned something new!
does the fuel filter have to be replaced on these mowers?
Can’t hurt. There’s a fuel filter in the fuel line coming off the gas tank. I was going to replace mine this year but I ended up selling the mower because I have a much larger yard now and use a zero turn.
@@fondupot thank you my friend for the quick reply. I had my mower for over 6 years and never did anything to it. I think i' m going to change all necessary parts for the upcoming season.
Great! Good luck!
Helpful video.
How many ounces of oil needed?
Thanks Dave. If I recall it has a 12 oz capacity.
Check the description box for links to the oil and other parts for this mower.
Where can I buy all the stuff for the tune up
Check the description for links to Amazon. 👍🏼
@@fondupot I order the Honda kit thanks
Great! Good luck. Thanks for watching.
whats the spaek plug number for this? i will buy one
Check the video description. 👍🏻
How many time we change the oil?
Once a year or so.
A lawnmower isn't going to spontaneously start on it's own if you don't disconnect the spark plug. How could it?
Would you rather risk your hand getting chopped off?
@@fondupot Nothing wrong with disconnecting it, but there is literally zero reason a small engine would randomly start like that.
And valve lash?
What about it?
I just thought that checking the valve lash at 6 and 8 thou might be on this list to do, especially on a mower that's been used a fair bit.
@@seeul8rwaynekerr The owners manual doesn't specify anything for checking valve lash. It is likely a non-issue unless a mower is not well maintained or abused.
Oil still look new
Yea, but it's still good to change the oil at least once a year during routine maintenance.
What is the gap of the plug?🎃
Between 0.028 ~ 0.031
