***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
It is so helpful to have you explain even the small things. They may seem like common sense to you but to beginners it is not.
As I was watching this video this morning I couldn't help but think of your "homestead" you had in Arizona. Sarah and Kevin, you had a dream and you followed the trail to get you there. You have grown so much these past years in Missouri. I've been watching you sometimes fail, but mostly succeed with your first homestead and now onto your farm. I don't know if you truly realize what you have given many of us...the desire to search for our own dreams. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. I do know that doing these videos take a lot of time that you could be doing something else, but the videos are so greatly appreciated. Blessings to both of you and your daughters. One of my dreams is to meet you...a girl can always dream, right!
You have given me so much joy this year, again. I'm quite ill and there is so much negativity in the world, there is a war raging and the politicians are arguing. As soon as I see the notification from your channel about a new episode, I feel all the stress disappear and I feel happy. I know that running a farm is hard work and you probably feel tired and stressed out time to time, but it doesn't translate to us viewers that way. So thank you two for giving me the pleasure to come along for the ride! I wish you a Merry first Xmas in your new home and happy 2023 😘😘!
Merry Christmas and a great new year for the family.may God bless us all in this time of stress in out country.
Know exactly where your coming from!
I hope you will regain your health in the near future!
That went great. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you both and the girls.
There was nothing I could do about the politics, except vote, there was nothing I could do about the news. So I turned them off. It's amazing, it did not kill me to stop watching that news every day. In fact, I feel much better. The drought I'm having in my area is another story. Whether I'm being punished or being tested I'm just a steward and I do the best I can at my age.
Oh my GAAAAAAAAAWSH!!!!!!! Those silkies are the silliest. They have the quirkiest personalities. I love how you call your cows and those silkies come following. 💚💜💚💜💚💜🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
It was funny seeing Rose so excited and running! 🤣
You two make this look so easy. Sure beats the heck out of sitting in a staff meeting!
I remember those days and I agree! - Kevin
@@LivingTraditionsHomestead Me too.
Those cubes keep ‘em coming!
I rather smell the cows then a coworkers obnoxious perfume. They have the best job. I wish I had one just like it
Makes ya think... maybe a person could do a small scale farm IF you have the right knowledge!
You are fantastic managers of your farm. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Those black faces on the brown cows are beautiful. Really striking.
You can tell how well your animals are treated by the calm way they come when you call them.
Great work moving the cattle seemlessly!! You two are my idols!
I can't fault Tex, he is probably smarter than me. We both like eating and taking care of family business. Be well, blessings.
My uncle had a medium size herd of Holstein cows many years ago. He would name his cows even after he was obliged by law to number then. Naming a cow was an important occasion and it was considered an honor so to speak. I can still remember my mother's reaction when my uncle proposed naming a new calf after her. And I quote"Don't you there!"
I, on the other hand, agreed joyfully to have a cow named after me when my turn came.
I was a kid. I would still agree today in my senior years.
I'd love to have a cow, or any animal, named after me too. What an honor. 💕
So cute to see Rose bucking around and Sweetpea is so sweet. I love how those little bull calves have their daddy's white face as he may not be clever but he sure is a handsome bull
Love the name Sweet Pea... My uncle moved back to the family homestead to retire. My grandmother"s sweet peas where still growing where she planting them some 70 years ago. My uncle got a golden retriever pup and named her sweet pea. She was the best dog ever!!!
❤️👍🙏 I’ll do a wonderful job being homesteaders! I’m always saying when I watch your videos, wow I wish I was about 20 years younger😆
But looking back, I remember growing up on a farm, so this just brings back a lot of the good old days😊
👍 I try to help and support, small businesses, etc. by purchasing items from their store, Amazon link to their UA-cam, etc.👍❤️
Y’all are always in my prayers every day.😊 God bless you, your families and your wonderful videos🙏
I used to stand in the kitchen and watch the cows in the barn lot. Come a cooling rain or snow the cows would run, bounce, play.....I truly enjoyed watching them. Rose and Babe, the calves running and playing. What an innocent joy.
I’m so HAPPY you named her Sweet Pea❣️. Yes, that was my suggestion first, I’m so excited… it just seems perfect for her👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 yay👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love that name, it's just perfect... lucky you! Merry Xmas!
@@erjatikka3029 Merry Christmas to you!!!
@@lorrieshigley3625 Sweet Pea is an ADORABLE name...! ❤ Merry Christmas to you ALL...! God Bless ..! Shelly ✝
I guess you're her godmother now. Congratulations!
~🐄🐂🐃~ Both of you are the Best to view. I always ask friends to watch your videos. I pray for you both and your daughter and homestead...GOD'S JOY..🐐..
Last year our bull, 2 cows and a calf escaped their pasture. We found them 1/2 mile away down a pipeline easement. Amazing what a bucket of cubes and a UTV can accomplish. It took about 2 hours but we got them back home. I always feel bad for the cows when the are separated from their calves. They carry on and on for a few days but do eventually get over it. Hard to watch and listen to. Love watching our videos!
I remember those nights, trying to sleep after dad separated the calves from their mommas. LOUD!
Sleep? What’s that? Lol.
@@LivingTraditionsHomestead 🤣
Good morning my farm friends! ❤ after Christmas I get my dairy goats. God is good!
I think Mr Bull is looking at life in the right way; eating, sleeping and having fun with the ladies. That´s the most fundamental things in life for all of us; food and sleep, love, family and friends - for a healthy life. In todays life many of us has forgotten this, thinking wealth and power is giving us happiness. Of course, todays society is built on that and a lot of people doesn´t have an option to live life exactly as they want to do, that´s a shame...
Ole Tex is my hero.He has a great job. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good morning! I sure hope Rose is bred now, as it's been a battle for you. Sweet Pea is just so adorable! The move went really well for you but luckily cows wear a sign around their neck- "Will work for food!" 😂🤣😂 Texas Deb ❤️🙏
Seems a good cow pony would come in handy at your place
I love watching your video and the way you describe Tex made me laugh. Your videos are some of the best on UA-cam none of the nonsense some of the others do on how easy it is to homestead. I grew up on a small farm we raised feeder pig 485 head at one point and all I have to say is it is very hard work.
You calling the cows took me back we had a small herd all hand reared in Queensland, started with three ended with seven, all named and just calm bar the little white bull and always came when i called them from way down the bottom paddock to the area next to the house. Lucerne square always helpful for little bull. I loved it all. When we moved they were taken to market i was crying as the truckee used not a square of lucerne but a prod, i interfered and told him thats not needed, they all trusted me and walked on board calm like, and my neighbour an old farmer who’d arranged it for me said i got the best price on the day. Well worth hand rearing
I just love watching you two!! I have been living vicariously through you and your gardening and farming. I have had 7 strokes and now live in an apartment and do still garden on my balcony. You and your family have been and continue to be in my prayers! I have noticed that so many people who do AI have had so many problems with it working. Most of the people that I watch lately that have been trying have ended up using a bull. I hope it works. I love watching the little ones!
This brought back lots of memories!
Many many years ago I worked at a couple of dairies, milking, feeding calves, weaning, vaccinating, dehorning. Then I worked at a livestock sale yard.
Then lastly I worked as the herd manager and irrigator over a 300 acre cattle operation, with about 100 head of cattle. Calving, vaccinating, weaning and winter feeding etc. My daughter and I fed off a pickup truck in the winter, and I taught the cows to come by honking the horn on the pickup-they could hear that horn just about wherever they were on that 300 acres; even down in the bottoms of the creek!
It was so fun to watch them come a running!
When we branded and vaccinated we would sort off the larger bull calves, for spring sale. And again in the fall we would round up by honking and bringing them all up for the second hay feeding and sort again. The fall sort was more intense as we also would decide which cows stayed and which would either be sold at auction or sold for meat; and which heifers would be used as replacements. This sorting I rode a horseback and brought in a little more help. Sometimes all the heifers were sold, and the same bull was kept. Usually by year 3 the bull was sold, a new bull brought in and all the heifers were kept.
Lots of rotating watching, paperwork, care, planning, fixing, doctoring, dealing with loss and breakdowns and just plan old hard hard work! But come late spring being out irrigating and seeing the pasture lands lush and green, and watching the new little calves “high tailing” it across the grasses; sure made all the hard work worth it!
Praying for you all to have a very Merry CHRISTmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks for taking all the time to bring us along!
Thanks for sharing these chores. My grandmother had a dairy farm. I remember riding on the tractor with my dad driving through the tall golden hay. I don't know why. But the sound and smell of cows has always been a comfort to me.
Dads on his way out at 87 ( he says he's going away), but I have the memories ❣
MERRY CHRISTMAS 👑🌟🎄❣
I sure learn a lot from you. And just enjoy vicariously all the farm chores! Sweet Pea IS the perfect name!
Look at your silkies! Yeah I know, this is supposed to be about the cows but such pretty birdies!!! SweetPea is super cute though. Glad she is staying on.
Grabs the wire.... This isn't ON is it? 😳🤣
Sweet pea is perfect name for little heifer! I love how y’all explain everything!❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Patience and working slow is the key when moving/sorting cattle. Love your channel!
They certainly enjoyed the new paddock!
I have been following you a long time and really enjoy seeing how your life and farm/ranch is growing.
Cindy 🐄 ❤️ Kevin’s commentary cracks me up. Priceless! What also is priceless is your love to animals. It is so clear when you speak about them, tone of your voices and of course when you talk to your animals. I love it. All the best and happiness for years to come.
Hearing Sarah laughing and excited, made my evening. Hope to hear that a lot more. God bless and keep you and yours.
I have watched you for a number of years now, you feel like family... I do miss the farm life! Blessings and have a Merry Christmas!
My husband & I bout 20 acres a almost 8 years ago. We planned on extending the home and making it our vacation home. Then shortly after, we some how stumbled across you’ll. We’ve been watching you guys for years now. And we’ve learned so much!!! This summer god willing, we will be doing some raised garden beds and we will get some chickens. That’s as far as we’re willing to go for now. We’ll we where that takes us!!
Hello Sarah and Kevin. The cows created a new level of workload, all part of your business plan! Good luck to Rose! Great video. Lots of work in the cold. You guys inspire me. I hope you have a happy Christmas! Your house looks fantastic! Did you get your woodburning fire installed? It's not as though you haven't had anything to do! Just look at Rose! So excited!
I love watching the animals there so sweet and funny...You have a beautiful view on your farm..
I so enjoy separating cattle, snuggled up in my night gown and blanket!!!
Always a joy watching you guys farm your farm! Thanks!
Aaaaw Sweet Pea is beautiful.
I love to watch them get so excited.
I’ve never seen people move cattle without horses or dogs. Pretty cool seeing a gentle way to do this!
Rose was just making me smile so big!!
All the cows look great. Glad you are trying live cover with the dairy cow and Heifer. I always open the sort gate into the pasture cows are .moving to...but nice quiet move and sort the way you did it.
It will be noisy for awhile without their mommas. Love seeing them all running. Great job.
Yes, sweet pea is beautiful!!! So glad she will be staying with you all. All the best, so fun to follow you all.
Hey guys I loved it ❤️ most of us every day folk don't get the opportunity to see this sort of thing. What a well orchestrated smooth Moo...ve. 👍😀❤️
Tex looks stunning! You definitely made those girls happy!
That was SO FUN to watch them run and be so excited!! Go girls, go!! 🙌
Cows have great personalities! You make sorting cows look easy😊
Watching y’all do your farm work is so enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks for sticking with us, even during your busiest times.
When separating animals to wran get a Farmers Almanc and check the best date. It makes a world of difference in the noise. I have followed it for 45 years with animals and my kids, it works.
I was raised on a farm, and miss it a lot. It is not reasonable for me to return to it again at my age, but I sure do enjoy watching your videos. It reminds me of home. ❤️
So fun to see Rose running and playing. Hope her breeding was a success!
My Papaw had cattle and when he passed away in 1995 family sold them all then sold the farm. I sure miss him and the farm. I enjoy watching you guys. I hope you have a Merry Christmas ❤️
Your animals are so cute. They have such a spunkie happy nature.
Guys if you ever sale Tex move to a black angus bull more money on calves.
My dad was a rancher and I remember the calves in the coral crying.
Praying 🙏🏿 for you all! Stay WARM!
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
You guys are amazing, and the cows are absolutely beautiful! Your living my dream👍🏻😊🙏❤️🎄🎄🎄
Good evening from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your adventures and your farm
Looks like yawl are organized and enjoying the new homestead. God Bless
Nice video! We are still getting Jet Setter tomatoes !! , we counted 1,200 picked this past spring/summer on 20 plants and stop counting. Jet star next, I don't know hard to beat this one. Thanks for sharing that tomato name, we never heard of it. We are in S.E. Texas and enjoy your channel.
Thank you for your video.
I'm so glad you good folks like doing that because as I say to the people around here, "That looks too much like work for my tastes".
I've done my share or "work" and now I'm old fat and lazy so I guess my life mission is accomplished.
Good luck
I totally am amazed at how well you two handle those cows! You are so relaxed and at ease. You know your cows and they know you. I love it. Thanks for sharing.
Sweetpea is adorable
We had a herd of 200 cows & as many calves. When we weined the calves...oh the music. We would go to my Aunt & Uncle's to spend the first night🌵🤠
noisy month for some calves!! be grateful for the windows being closed!!!
You guys make it look so easy! Working with and knowing your animals, along with smart design of fencing, sure go a long way toward making life work better on the farm.
You should add more connectors to your electric fence to keep the loose wire from flipping up into your barbed wire..
So funny how curious they are 🤗🤗
Beautiful cows. I love sweet pea.
U guys make it look so easy moving the cows. Great job!
I love the way y'all have every thing so organized.
THat was fun to watch. Looks like you have the system of moving the cows down pat!
Cindy Cowford!
Oh I just love watching the cows coming up. And Cindy should feel honored to have such a beautiful animal named after her.🥰🐂🐂🐃
I would definitely feel honored to have a cow, or any farm animal named after me! I don't think Cindy will mind. Merry Xmas!
I enjoyed the cattle, but glad I don't have to do it anymore. Retired, sold my cows several years ago and now only have honey-bees.
That baby does have the most adorable face markings! Thank you for taking us along!
Hi Guys, I have to thank you for sharing your life, animals and videos. I learn so much and you bring the country into my life. I look forward to each one because you never know what's happening. God bless you and Merry Christmas. Happy New Year and Cheers!
Have you considered getting a well trained herding dog to help with the cattle?
Thank you for naming Sweet Pea as my suggestion after my grandaughters nick name I gave her when she was born. Xx
Will be praying for you Erja!
I had a September calf last year from my Swiss jersey cross. I just had him butchered in November. He was 395 hanging weight. Not grained out. I didn't want to feed him for winter as that would have cost 500 for him.
Looks like moving the cows went smoothly
Quick question. The heifer calves you've kept- who will you be breeding those with? Are you getting a new bull and selling your bull? You've got a nice set up for your cattle. Love Sweet Pea!
Rose looked happy so maybe this time she'll start a new life. You two made separating the bull calves so easy the way you have your fencing and paddocks layed out. Great job!! Stay safe and keep up the great videos and keep having fun too. Fred.
I am so impressed by how cleanly and efficiently you run your farm. Your vlogs teach me a ton, and make me happy too. What a wonderful combination, thanks and Merry Christmas!
Yes, a noisy night! Sometimes more like a noisy week!
Can't wait to retire from NM and move to Missouri as well. Truly enjoy watching your adventure.
I look forward seeing you two each week. May you guys have a blessed Christmas and prosperious new year🥰
Snain here in MN - I've shoveled every inch or so because snow with all that moisture is too heavy otherwise.
After watching Danny-Wanda's Dexters, been interested in Herd Intelligence. How they interact w/ humans & each other is fascinating. I can see what they're thinking. Bovines are very smart. Tex eats, mates & is Majestic as his status dictates lol. Girls lagging were maybe smelling the other male bull who was previously the resident?
I have really enjoyed this particular vid. Don't know why but I think it's one of your best. Thanks!
Wish you would show us the outside of the new house and the inside other than the kitchen. Like the dinning room and the living room.
I like how tentative the cows were walking past the chickens 😂
I learned when I was young to test a electric fence with a wooden stick or rubber boots and to touch it with the back of the hand and not the front for reflex of fingers want to grab into a fist which makes it worse then away from the fence.
