Don’t move the fridge! Walking around the counter EVERY time you need something is going to frustrate you. Remember the triangle, sink, stove and fridge. change the door on your fridge. it’s easy. They are all capable of opening either way.
Better to leave the fridge where it is and change the door.its more handy where it is.I would def put on curtains .That space would look more tidy. Its not much iofa summer I agree but I would gladly swab some days with yours. Its suffocating here in Malta and summer has only just started.Glad you managed to change the chain at last.Already looking forward to next Sunday❤
Leave the fridge, move the washing machine in the place you wanted to hide with curtains. Move the countertop under the window and make it a fold up for easy access, it will make the fridge more integrated into the kitchen and make the kitchen feel bigger . You can still have the shelves over the washing machine and the bins underneath the countertop.
No do not move the fridge! No way you want to walk around that counter area every time you need something out of the fridge??? Especially while cooking. 🤦🏼♀️
Small counter was a great idea, but don't move the fridge. Build shelves up further in the corner. Thanks for sharing the calf standing for the first time. Bloopers getting slim, but Nori is always helpful there. :)
Since the fridge question has been covered, I just wanted to say I love every adventure you both take us on, no matter the subject. I really enjoy you both and of course " The Boys ". My day is always better after watching your videos, thank you !! Love and hugs 🥰🥰 xx
Definitely keep the fridge where it is currently. Not only would you be taking extra steps to get around the island every time you go for something while cooking, you’ll also be inviting a spaniel blockade trapping you in the corner.
I vote for not moving it. Your bins are tucked away where they are, if you move the fridge you will have to find new homes for the bins so you can open the fridge door. Plus going around the island every time you want the milk is gonna get old fast.
I would personally add more shelving in and keep the fridge where it is, could also look at getting a left sided hinged fridge? Great video as always guys!
Don’t move the fridge!!! I’d add more shelves in the corner for more storage. In the US you can switch the fridge hinges so it’s either a righty or a lefty swing 👍👍👍
My vote is leave fridge and add more shelves. Update looks good and great job on counter Willie and Sarah has some mad organizational skills. Sweet baby calf and first time standing was amazing. Adorable birds. Jack and Nori are a blast to watch. Hopefully better weather soon for some more boating adventures. See next week
If you have a part of your kitchen that's tucked away, that's where you keep stuff you don't need to access very often. And switch the fridge door round. I'm sure Richard would be able go do that.
HI SARAH AND WILLIE! RE COOLER BAG: to keep the bag cool, we freeze a water bottle or two (with our choice of liquid: coke, iced tea etc: LEAVE ROOM for liquid expansion) and they work great! Bonus, you now have a nice cool drink when you get home! ❤ from Vancouver Island
What a difference trimming down the counter top made! I love watching little DIY style jobs like this, gives me huge joy. My wonderful dad (a fellow skye life fan and the one that got me onto your adventures) built me planters like yours. Watching you guys tackle home improvement stuff is so satisfying to watch, seeing it all come together. With humour and honesty as ever. And the added bonus of spaniel ears in the wind, baby cows, and birds! Love it. Happy hailstones guys! Xx
*Sarah & Willie, well done changing the boat chain 🙂 I think that Willie was getting more fitter than the dogs running around lol 🙂 Awesome to see the baby calf... and doing well 🙂 Fridge issue. Leave it where it is... but in the future, can you look into moving the breakfast bar back over under the window and make a bench top from the wall and across to the end... then have the shelves above on that wall and around to the window. yes it will mean moving the plumbing for the dishwasher to still be under the breakfast bar.🙂 This would then make the kitchen even bigger for you both. 🙂 Buy a huge plastic container bin with a lift up lid and opening door... (hardware stores will have them as people put in garden stuff etc) to go out by the back door to hide all the recycle/rubbish bins etc in.🙂nz*
You can buy a 2litre of Coca Cola and pour it over the rusted chain and bits. The rust will be 'eaten' away😱 and that's exactly why I don't drink Coke😉 Greetings from 🇿🇦
The fridge is probably the most constantly accessed thing in the kitchen so leave it where it can be easily reached instead of adding steps to the journey around the worktop. Instead I would build more shelves on top of the existing ones so that you have floor to ceiling shelving. You could use large wicker baskets on the upper shelves so that it looks tidy.
I vote fridge stays. As everyone else says, having to walk round to it could get old very quickly. The kitchen triangle thing (fridge, sink, cooker). Yes to curtain, but maybe make two so you can rotate whilst one is in the wash? I’d put shelves up the wall, ideally L- shaped, as you have that return bit of wall, for a bit more extra storage. But as it’d be at eye level I’d be aiming for kilner jars, baskets and even a painting to keep the visual clutter down. My system for dealing with recycling is a 1/3rd sized old fashioned galvanised dustbin by the back door. My cottage kitchen is small too and the council wheelie bins are way down at the end of the garden. So, recycling can go in a bin bag in the galvanised bin, and then the bin bag can be easily carried down to the wheelie bin, emptied in and reused in the galvanised bin to save plastic waste. Easy to do, even in the depths of winter, and saves kitchen real estate.
The bird seed / nuts containers & recycle bins are very good How about Willie building an off the ground raised box to store the bird seed etc in by the cottage save you walking back & forth & more room in the kitchen ( Willie just a suggestion ) 👍
Since you asked, I would install some additional shelves above the microwave ( for storage of larger kitchen items you don't use as often) and leave the fridge where it is. Like your idea of installing a little curtain maybe on a tension rod to hide the things on the lower shelf. To walk around that kitchen island every time I wanted to get in to the fridge, would drive me crazy. Have always liked your cabinets with the glass in them also.
Put a pretty gingham or striped curtain across the shelf and leave the fridge where it is. Not only practical but a little fabric will add to the cottage vibe. Great video…thanks guys 😊
For sure, don't move the fridge as it could become quite aggravating getting good from it. Cutting a piece off the countertop was smart though. Loved the dogs ears flapping in the wind!!!❤😊
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT! Beautiful music to watch the birds with that exceptional mountain view!❤❤❤❤I loved the running around!😂 😂😂 I think the fridge needs to remain where it is...😢 it might be too inaccessible in that corner... A fridge usually looms...😅 All the best...that Fridge-a- redoo needs to be pondered upon....ALL THE VERY BEST!
I agree don't move the fridge, stuck in that corner it will create a lot of heat and needs some circulation, plus I think you'll find it really inconvenient to get to on a daily basis. So fun watching Jack and Nori run around after willy. Jack sure loved that yellow ring toy. Jack is getting a little grey in his muzzle.
Leave the fridge where it is as walking around the bench will be a hassle. The kitchen looks great as it is. Take care and thank you for sharing your journey 👏🙏❤️
Great idea to reduce the size of the counter top, don't move the fridge/freezer - change the hinges (doable on most fridge/freezers) and a little (kitsch) curtain to cover Hettie would be inline with the cottage vibe. Thanks for the video.
I love the kitchen re-do. Great idea. Don't move the refrigerator. I think you'll hate opening it up against the counter and being stuck in the corner when you're getting things out feels very claustrophobic. I think you'll get really tired of walking around the counter, plus all the things you put back there in the corner are more like things that you want out of view, not on shelves for display. I didn't read the rest of the comments to see what others thought, but that's my thinking. 😉 Thanks for the fun video. 😊
Leave fridge as it is… use the cut of wood for another shelf above microwave & a wee set of curtains on bottom shelf to finish it off …😃 When l was young my Dad called it a bunker & we were from Central Belt, l call it a worktop now….
Willie and Sarah - don't move the fridge. If possible, change the way the door opens. The section of video about spaniels playing in the wind (with Willie) was delightful.
Love your kitchen improvements - just makes so much sense to reduce that bench top to create easier access. I’d say keep the fridge where it is so you don’t have to walk around the bench to access it, and add the curtains you mentioned to hide the vacuum cleaner and the glass recycling baskets (even though the IKEA additions are very nice). Maybe even a shelf or two above the microwave area could be handy … ?
I think constantly having to walk around the breakfast bar to get things out of the fridge would get annoying very quickly! I'd suggest turn the washing machine round so it faces towards the window and move the wood pannelling to the kitchen side, that'll neaten off the kitchen side of what was the breakfast bar (you'll still be able to open the washing machine but it'll look so much nicer). I'd then definitely add more wall shelving over by the window. Or - move those tall units that come down onto the work surface over to the window end and have some nice open wall shelving there. The diffference that's make would be incredible I think as at present the kitchen (which I really like) just isn't laid out well and looks too 'bunched up' in the middle. Apart from giving more work surfce space I find breakfast bars are rarely useful.
I completely agree with previous comments re moving the washing machine to the corner (where the bottle bins are) and getting rid of the counter completely. That'd not only increase the canine play space (priority 🤣) but also give the humans so much more room to move around 👍🤗
The weather has been one of extremes this year, more so on Skye. Heyho suppose we wouldn’t appreciate the good without the bad. Lovin your kitchen rejiggle.👍
Moving the washer where you're thinking you may put a curtain and put a door onto the space where the washer is and you could put your hoover n recycle baskets or whatever in there. Some more shelves above the microwave would be good too 🙂
Move the fridge into the corner 100% imo. The space you will create in the room will give the appearance of a bigger kitchen. The access to the fridge will be wider in its new postion. Use the wall nearest the door for some shelves 👍
I think moving the fridge in the corner would make it feel cramped. I'd leave it where it is. I do like the idea of moving the washer over there instead with a curtain in front. The improvements look great. Nice!!!
If you move your fridge then you will only end up moving all your ‘stuff’ into its place (you know you will 🤣) and it will drive you potty having to walk around everything to get to your fridge. Looks good as it is. 😊
I’d leave the fridge and put more shelves up! Oh the weather has been far from summer like hasn’t it!? Been the same here in the Highlands… summer may arrive one day 🤣 I have just released a video on our exploring Spain series from our month long trip to Spain and I am reminiscing about all the sunshine we have left behind! 🤣
@@livingtheskyelife he he! I have to say we loved it, especially the sunshine and warmth but nothing like coming home to Scotland… even in this weird summer vibes it’s got going on! But can’t help but miss the sunshine. Maybe just maybe the rest of July will be better than today! The midges we so bad last night too 😭
Think about moving the washing machine to wall and using breakfast bar as a cooking island. Will open up the kitchen and space moreally use able the plumbing may not prove a problem to move. Worth exploring. US the bit from breakfast bar for shelving😊😊😊
Leave the fridge where it is, you don't really want it stuck behind the newly shaved counter(looks great btw), and that area is great for your new bins/containers and bits you can hide in there. Must say I had a good giggle with Willie and the boys charging around the house like those old Benny Hill sketches!
To see what it would be like if you moved the fridge, walk into the corner every time you go to get something from it so you know if it's going to drive you crazy or not if it was there. Feels like it would be too far out of the way in the corner. In terms of kitchen design, there's a golden triangle of cooker, sink and fridge. Definitely put a curtain across the shelves in the corner.xx
I also would not move the frig it would make it too far away, but I absolutely think you did the right thing with all the organizing. I loved watching Willie run around with the dogs. Good job on the boat chain!!
Hi, Sarah and Willie. I’m glad that replacing the mooring chain and the buoys was a mission possible. Leave the fridge where it is… otherwise you will need to go around the island to get at it. It’s amazing that calves and foals get up shortly after birth and nurse. I have watched the births of many foals… it’s amazing. See you next week❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wales has had an amazing summer. "3" DAYS....I remember it well. We have a cool bag in the car for meat and veg. Very handy to have. I love your new IKEA storage and work top. Looks amazing. I need bird seed bins. Love your amazing wildlife. Birds and beautiful Skye. Baby calf so adorable.
I would move the fridge and have that whole corner free. It would be even easier to walk round and the fridge would look better out the way in the other corner 😊
I vote for leaving the fridge in the corner and increasing the size of the shelves to the left of the window. You made them 14 to 16 inches wider you'd have more room for things like your coffee pot, electric skillet waffle, iron, etc. But that has to stay where it is because of the hinge location. I think you would also find it very inconvenient to have to go so far out and around that counter to get anything out of the fridge. Anyway, that's my two cents worth!!
Place a curtain where the bottle recycling are at. Leave the fridge and the door the way it is but you can add more shelvings where the nook is at for storage.
I’d build a wall behind the existing countertop and along to the corner of the room and make that space a walk-in storage cupboard. Then you could move the fridge alongside the end of the existing countertop (as there would then be a wall behind it) and the door to the walk-in cupboard alongside the fridge. You’d have a lot more storage, and the area would be hidden from the rest of the kitchen…..
Keep the fridge where it is you would get fed up going around the end. I would investigate if the washing machine could removed perhaps it is just a case of a new extension and take away the island .Plus put more shelves above the microwave
I like the idea of removing the shelves and placing the fridge on that wall. It will open up the fridge’s current corner for L shaped shelves increasing your storage space, without sacrificing space.
thanks and yes, that was a great idea for the little remodel. Works much better with the added room, Leave fridge where it is. Loved the Flying Spaniel Ears. Fun with the fur pouches..
Leave the fridge where it is, it will be a pain to go behind the counter every time you wanted milk etc. Making the counter smaller was a great move. Love your program
Leave the fridge! It will stick out too far next to the cabinets plus it will be inefficient on the other side of the counter. Love your counter adaption and a curtain is a nice idea
Please position your fridge at least 15cm from all walls and objects, as you're currently cooking the poor compressor! Running it as-is not only increases the amount of electrical power that it uses, but also exponentially decreases its life expectany (as a general rule of thumb, a device's Mean Time To Failure halves for every 10°C increase in operating temperature). It needs sufficient space for good air circulation to cool down the condenser coils, as well as to evaporate and carry away the condensed moisture that collects inside of the fridge. Please also remember to periodically (once a year or so) clean the exterior condenser coils, especially if it uses an active cooling fan and compact coil arrangement (you may need to unscrew and take off a panel to access the fan and coil).
Lovely vid. as expected. Thank you. Your queries: tides change at solstice and equinox, so may be stronger, higher etc. ; dog hair trimmings, wrap a small bundle in strong plastic or canvas and stuff up into a tree branch fork or up under the eaves. Poke some small holes (2 or 3 only) with a screw driver and leave for the birds to find and to use as nest lining; the new planters - time to stop apologising for reusing something which then doesn't look like a bought one might! The first ones you made were designed to look like a new product ('neat and tidy in suburbia'), whereas the recycled bin is using real materials which you have and which you don't need to BUY. Only you can change the emphasis of the aesthetic. I would say ' the fish boxes are suitable in that environment, while the others, though beautifully made, would not fit so naturally in on Skye'. The aesthetic holds the key to stopping mass production and waste in commercial enterprise. Always emphasise the importance and beauty of the recycled, and don't make negative comparisons. I loved the patient Jack Spaniels getting his hair cut, and don't envy you doing Nori's first full trim. Such lovely bluebells.
Dont move the fridge, you would regret it, leave it where it is. Lovely to see the wee calf❤ and baby birds feeding,❤ lovely time of the year except the weather.
Such a difference to the worktop and that area. 👍🏻. I wouldn’t move the fridge as further to go to access it. Would def add more shelves above the “Hetty” area right to the top to match the unit on the left hand side and will look good but also give practical storage too. Keep going, it’s looking good. 😁
If it isn't too hard I'd move the washing machine to the other side where the shelves are. Then use the space the washing machine was as shelving. And have your neighbour who helped build the kitchen add new doors to match the rest of the kitchen. I'd leave the fridge where it is and leave it opening to the right as it will just bump into the counter if it opens to the left.
I agree with a few others. Don’t move the fridge. You’ll have nowhere to put the bins you just sorted! It will also be a pain every time you want to get something out of the fridge while you’re cooking 🙂 It was lovely to see the new calf and the little birds using the feeder.
love the wildlife section ! More birds, little fish , etc. please. And do not move the fridge! Every time you want milk in your tea it will be a real pain to walk round & open the door.
If you put the fridge over on the other wall, you'll always have to walk around the cabinet and shelf, to get to it; it's probably better where it is. Then you can put more shelving over the others on that wall. Love the new shorter counter. Have a good week, really good video today, thank you! (from Sandi)
My wife and I both think the fridge should stay where it is, that would shortly nip my brain walking around the counter to get milk for my multiple cups of tea every day. Good job on the counter top Willie. (assuming you didn't trust Sarah with a power tool, even though she is perfectly capable) I use linseed oil on the wooden refurbishments that I do, but living in Spain there are a lot of little critters that like wood but don't like linseed oil. Funny enough I often miss the Highland weather, 30th of June today and the digital thermometer on my car was reading 40 degrees, and July and August are our hottest months. Great video and thanks for your music Willie.

Almost all modern fridges have swappable hinges for reversing the door.
FYI - a cow gives birth to a calf. If it is a female it is called a heifer and if it is a male it is a bull. Cow = Mum 🤠
@@livingtheskyelife I have your song already I love it I find it really moving it feels like your cottage telling its story through the years .
Love what you've done in your kitchen. Don't move the fridge!!!!!! It won't be practical!!❤
Don’t move the fridge! Walking around the counter EVERY time you need something is going to frustrate you. Remember the triangle, sink, stove and fridge. change the door on your fridge. it’s easy. They are all capable of opening either way.
Good idea about the switching the fridge door.
The triangle doesn't work in this space, because the fridge would have to be where the table is if that were the case.

Spaniels ears in the wind, absolutely hysterical made me lol! I love how you re-purpose everything, after my own heart.
Don't move the fridge. Do put a curtain across the shelves. Keep making these beautiful videos. Thank you ❤
Hi, leave the fridge where it is, as you need it most of the time x
Aww 🥰 Seeing the birds feed from the bird feeders is just lovely.
Yes it is, but I wonder if there is an argument against enabling birds to not rely on natural food resources in the summer?
@@jock364they just recommend to not just stop, if you do it that way keep feeding winter to summer

Loved the birds. Maybe have a session with them in sitting with nature.
Leave the fridge where it is - it is handy to access. Add additional shelving to the back wall for more storage. A curtain is a good idea.
I think moving the fridge in the corner would make it feel cramped. I'd leave it where it is. I do like the idea of moving the washer over there instead with a curtain in front. The improvements look great. Nice!!!
Leave the fridge where it is. It looks good now with the counter made smaller and love your Ikea baskets. The little calf is adorable.
I love this segment with you running around with Willie and the dogs it is hilarious .
Also, I love your idea of putting a curtain in front of the glass recycle. I bet it would look really cute.
Not jealous of your trip in the slightest…🙄
As long as this arrangements suits your needs and you like the layout then it's the right thing to do.
I’m with everyone about keeping the fridge where it is. I half expected some Benny Hill music with the spaniels ears segment 😂
Leave the fridge where it is. It will drive you crazy having it around there. I like the idea of a curtain.
I would move the fridge and have that whole corner free. It would be even easier to walk round and the fridge would look better out the way in the other corner 😊
It’s a big improvement. Leave the fridge where it is and if you need more shelves add a couple above the microwave.
Maintaining a property is a never-ending challenge!👍 We are emty-nesters with two dogs. We tend to manage our days around their needs. 😃
Spaniels’ Ears In The Wind for the win!
"cow-moo-shun" ... good one, Willy! I heard that! 🤣
I love your new section "spaniels' ears in the wind!" The music is perfect too!
I like the extra space but putting the frig in that corner would be a big mistake having to go around the bar every time you need something.
Spaniels ears in the wind for the win!!! 😂
Running round with the dogs was so funny. And the kitchen looks so much better. 😺 X
Fridge looks good as is , too much palaver to shift and remodel the other area , great job folk's 👍
If you put the fridge over on the other wall, you'll always have to walk around the cabinet and shelf, to get to it; it's probably better where it is. Then you can put more shelving over the others on that wall. Love the new shorter counter. Have a good week, really good video today, thank you! (from Sandi)
What about building a mud room (all enclosed) out your back door? Put all the recycling bins garbage bin, Hoover , dog and bird food.
It’s a good idea, but the only window from our spare room looks out onto that bit, so we would lose that view/natural light unless we made a sunroom 😅
Love this one, nature watch was so lovely..How lucky you are to have so many animals on your doorstep to keep you entertained...
