Hey Si, those old shells would have had a black powder charge and a fuse in the tip, having been open to the water through that fuse hole for so long the charge inside will be completely rotten and inert. I'd imagine there would be plenty of collectors who would want them
@@SmallWonda that’s great to hear! I wish him good health! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Si Your videos are great. I'm a big fan and a treasure hunter myself for over 35 years now! Please be very careful with projectiles of this kind please do not hammer on them!Very dangerous game as there are so many extremely dangerous objects of this kind! Take care! Best regards Martin
Si's comment re painting the balls white and telling the kids you got them a football made me LOL! When I was a kid the teenagers in our neighborhood would kick and tear down our snowmen and snow forts. I found a bowling ball while dumpster diving so I placed it in front of a snowman and covered the ball in snow. Didn't take long before someone got a nasty surprise!
Haha! Great story
That's awesome! Hahahahaha! I love it! ( ;
Love that!
I enjoy all your videos but nothing beats you and Nic on the foreshore!
Couldn’t agree more
Yes...
Si and Nic make a great mud larking duo 😁
Daisy n Nelly are gorgeous. Loved the sculpture.
I've said it before, but I'm doing it again, Si: your videos are great for lots of reasons. What you do, who you do it with, what you find, what you find out about what you find, what you make with what you find. All of these are presented in a compelling way, with suspense and humor. And the creativity with filming and editing make them especially cinematic. I really love the angles and close-ups you use, and the drone points of view really bring home just what kind of terrain you're exploring. So well done, every time!
You make my Sundays so much better. When you don't post, it's a disappointment, but I know it's because you actually don't work for us and have a life of your own. Thanks!
Cheers Paul! Appreciate that wonderful comment. Keep them coming as it keeps me going! Yes I also have a full time job and sometimes need a break from all the editing otherwise I’ll burn out! Tell ya friends, keep them subs rolling in
@@Sifinds I do what I can, and wish I could do more. You're one of the Good Ones, and deserve all the best!
Poor Steve what a way to get a break, I hope he is getting better xxx
Cheers Anna I’ll pass that on
Hitting shells with a hammer .. what could possibly go wrong 🤣💥 Looks like you lads had a fun time out there on the hovercraft, hope that Steve is mending well
And you want to get the cannonballs in fresh water ASAP to start bleeding the salt out of them before they dry too much. Salt drying out in rusted iron objects can expand as it crystallizes and crack the artifact.
Already done
I think there is supposed to be lime in the water to neutralize the salt....lime powdered limestone I guess.
We come across this process often in old church bells, which have been originally cast with an iron staple in the mould prior to the bronze being poured. After many years the cast in staples rust and expand, cracking the head of the bell. I old bells it is often possible to drill out the staple legs, therefore saving the bell from damage. An independent staple is then used which is a separate unit. I absolutely love this channel - chipping off the rust from the cannonball is just like fettling a new casting - very satisfying!
Gotta love an HHH episode!
One quick tip for using sheet metal (and other materials) is put your design tight in a corner or butting up against previous cuts. You'll maximize your investment.
Cheers, mate!
gloves man Simon for that metalwork ! and some metal snips, and a hole punch. love to see the wood come to life with the wax. good job 👍
What a hilarious mudventure that was, right up to the point that Steve broke his leg. I hope that it has been set to rights by now. You two together are just like naughty little boys! LOL
I'd never heard of mudlarking until I come across one of your videos a few months ago. Now I'm.a little bit obsessed and asked my husband for a metal detector for Christmas 🤣🤣
Cleaning off the canon balls felt just like fettling a new casting! Incredibly satisfying, and amazing to see the true nature of the ball revealed!
That was absolutely phenomenal Si. I love the sculpture and the video was one of the funniest I've ever seen! 💜
Best wishes to Steve for a quick recovery.
I may have had ACDC's song 'Big Balls' going in my head when you guys were digging up that canon ball.....🤣
Haha! If only I could’ve used a commercial song. I’m sure the choice would be endless
Really nice historic finds on this video. Great balls! Hope Steve is still healing up. Give Him and Nick my best.
Simon, that's a beautiful craft you made w/the found bullet 😀 👏!
Here is wishing Steve a speedy recovery from his broken leg! It must be terribly frustrating to be laid up with that in the summer. Awesome cannon balls!
Interesting stuff, and love the sculpture!
You really do reach the parts others larkers don't reach! 😂👌
Those cannon balls would make fine lawn ornaments set on a bird bath base. I love your funny mates and all the history. Your copper sculpture was just AMAZING - so clever!
Thanks so much JoEllen!
Absolutely wonderful video Simon! You Steve and Nic work well together even if you did choose the artifacts over poor Nic. Lol! Those balls of yours are certainly amazing and I must say the biggest set of balls I have ever seen. 🤣 I wouldn’t want to have to carry them around for long. Your art with the copper and the bullet was very creative. Love to see your art work. Give Nelson and Daisy a cuddle for me. Have a great week and please keep safe! ❤️🇨🇦
When you guys were tapping on that cannonball with a hammer I flashed back to an old Bugs Bunny cartoon with Yosemite Sam .... I know yours did not go KABOOM but still ...
Si - Your treks in the mud are fun and so interesting! I really appreciate your historical research on found items and have learned some amazing things watching your videos. You obviously have a deep regard and respect for the past and that is a theme of your channel - love it. Thanks to you and the guys for another great hovercraft adventure.
Cheers Mudlover! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Great video, those cannon balls were a great find. I laughed so much when you and Steve were decrusting them, you two are so funny 😆. Healing wishes to Steve and his broken leg hope it heals quickly. Love the copper sculpture, such a great idea to incorporate the copper, wood and bullet. Hello to Nelly and Daisy, and your rescue hens. Take care and stay safe 👍🇦🇺🪃 xxx
That bullet sculpture was really good in the end. All the way through I was like. Naaaa it’s gonna look bad this 😂 but ended up really looking good 👍
Naughty boys handling their massive balls! Love the pic of Si! LOL 😆
Haha cheers Adrianne 👍🏻🐾🧡
That is absolutley amazing. You have a wonderful imagination.
Amazing finds Si, loved your copper craft, very cheeky. Till next time, hey to Nellie and Daisy, enjoy your week.🇨🇦🍁🐘😍
Cheers Marion!
OMG! That is real luck in the MUCK! Boys having loads of fun! You and them big balls 🤣 Good on you! Regards to you once again from South Africa. Hope you are enjoying your hot weather. Welcome to our world here in Africa 🌞
That cannon ball, it needs to be in a museum, that is super old, what a whopper. Super find
Best wishes to Steve for a speedy recovery. The carronade balls were an amazing find. It would be interesting to weigh them. Your conservation method of knocking off the crud was just what used to happen in the 19th century when seaman were put to work tapping off any rust or muck so that they did not stick in the barrels of the carronades and would fly true.. Usually it was the job of the ships' boys to carry the balls up on deck prior to use. The carronades were often called smashers, for obvious reasons. The very largest balls were used in mortars I believe but I think that your assessment that these are carronade balls is correct.
Very clever
The final piece reminds me of an antique bishop's pastoral staff. Very lovely!
Love the video and the sculpture is fab, I'm so pleased you were able to make use of the copper, it had been in a drawer for ages 🙄 Nelly and Daisy are peaches. 😊
That was a pretty good treasure trove found in the mud
It would be fun to see you go back sometime for more “ luck in the muck”
Great video Si , very cool cannon balls , and your crafts also . Find a nice thick drift piece of wood (from an old ship for ex.),carve a round base on the top and put the cannon ball on top ,nice decoration piece, it makes a nice conversation topic .
Cheers Victor! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Oh, Si. Your smile cheers me up so much.
Great sculpture, also like that the spiral is associated with waves/water in a lot of ancient cultures, ties in well with mudlarking. Well done.
I love you guys, whatever you're doing I search every might to see your new videos. Thankyou x
Brilliant idea with the old martini bullet, plus the cannon ball was a great find!
Aw cheers Kenny! 👍🏻🐾🧡
I've never seen Daisy before. I love them both. 😻
Yes she was a lock down rescue
Looks like a great place to find treasures. That YFood looks interesting, and would be convenient for an outing. 😂, “it’s attached to the cannon” The postage would be astronomical. You removed about 20 lbs of crud, should be easier to move now. Your upcycle is beautiful. Well done 👍
Cheers Coni!! 👍🏻🐾🧡
What do these drinks taste like, may give one a go, especially after today 🤣 crazy how the cannonballs are still perfecto with all that rust protecting them.
They are really tasty, I think the Chocolate one is the best, or banana... They are great for what we do! Yes they were pucka balls!
Hi Adam, hope you are ok, I think I may try those drinks for when I'm volunteering in the cat rescue shop and forget to eat, oops just had to delete some gobbledegook added by a mischievous kitten leaping onto the keyboard!🙄😂
I enjoy your videos so much, especially these ones out on the hoover craft. Y'all are a fun group to watch together and the items you find are just amazing.
Oh you boys with your toys....you make me laugh. Your sculpture is so creative and clever. Nice
You both made me laugh so much talking about 'balls' I nearly choked on my wine. The artwork is amazing. More more more
Cheers Terrie! You've got to have a laugh right!
The cannon balls are amazing! A great find. You guys always have a good time, love watching you guys get muddy!👍✌💖
Cheers pal!! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Great trip!! Poor Steve! Love your sculpture!!💕😺😺😺🐈⬛🐈
Cheers Jackie! 👍🏻🐾🧡
I have been watching your channel long enough to have seen it grow to what it is, and it is great! 👍😃There are many reasons to like your channel, from the humor to respecting finds, the research and up-cycling of items from the past, and the stories of those items, and many other reasons. I am proud to be a small part of your audience, and I wouldn't have a channel of my own, nature and animals, without the inspiration from mudlovers like you and so many others across the pond.😎 Thank you, Simon.
Derek from Oregon, USA.
Cheers Delboy!! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Such a great video. The cannonballs are amazing. Love the copper art. Thank you.
Another beautiful sculpture ❤️ well done!
Wow lots of lovely war items ...... such a lovely DIY art work . Enjoy
With love from SAM

Cheers Sam! 👍🏻🧡😂
What a fun mud adventure!!! Your sculpture is stunning, I absolutely love the piece of wood, so beautiful! ❤
Love from the old lady in Texas God bless you always and forever
Nice one Si. Those balls were massive!! Cheers, John.
Cheers John!
21:00: It appeared to me that the round ball had several flat spots on it. If so, it is more likely from grape shot or cannister. The flat spots would indicate where the other balls were packed into the casing with it.
Could it also be where excess lead was filed down from the mold? I've got a .62 caliber "howdah" side by side black powder percussion cap pistol that when I cast my own lead balls, i have to take that bit off with a file and it looks almost exactly like Si's find.
You muddy boys are so much fun to watch. 🤎 And your sculpture came out amazing! 😻
I love when you lads go on the hovercraft. You all have so much fun. And lots of banter. It was satisfying watching the crud bringing hammered of those cannon balls. Especially where they were placed Si. Thank you all so much for the laughs. Xxx
Nic, Nick and Nicky
A beautiful, Daisy-approved sculpture by Si-Finds himself! It looks amazing in the sunlight, and the spirals represent the motion perfectly.
Not 3 seconds before the inevitable happened, my beloved said, "Why isn't Si wearing gloves as he cuts that copper? He's going cut himself all up." 😬 🅾️🅰️🅱️🆎️ I guess it's just one of those sacrifices an artist makes for his art. Or... 😁
I hope Steve's leg is feeling much better. I thought maybe he had graduated from the walking boot but now see that he hadn't even gotten it yet. What a discouraging summer for him. 😧 We're thinking of you, Stevie-boy❣
Beautiful upcycling 🙌🏻🤩
Even on vacation, I need my weekly dosis of, Si!
😃 You guys always have so much fun, it's catching, making me laugh out loud!
Love the make, beautiful garden art! 🥰
hello from Denmark
now in Alba 🏴🌸🌱
Cheers Z! Glad we can pass on some of our laughs!!
What a lovely pair of balls 😉👍.
Steve is one tough salty. He didn’t let a little broken leg ruin the fun.I hope you’re feeling better Steve. Just a little broken leg for two cannon balls.
what an impressive set of balls Si!! love your history hunter videos. Great sculpture too 👍

Your sculpture is wonderful!
Nice one on the cannon balls. I had one on my last outing a week ago, luckily nowhere near that size, otherwise I'd not have got it home and that was pretty much all I found that day!
Haha. Nice one Colin!
Always love your hovercraft adventures with Steve. Thought the sculpture with the bullet was brilliant xxx

Thanks so much Candie 👍🏻🐾🧡
What fun. Love the sculpture!
Cheers Linda! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Great to see some maritime finds from my neck of the woods. Don't worry, I'll keep the local secret! 😉
Location!!!!
You’re in Cornwall, get a pasty down ya! You can eat it on the move and if you get one of the larger ones, it’ll keep you full for hours too. Very handy meal to have on the go.
I love the sculpture and I love spirals! Great addition of the bullet and the gorgeous wood base! ( : Poor Steve! I can't believe he never said he broke his leg and kept driving! Geesh! ) : That is awful! ) : Seriously strong about pain! ) : Great cannon ball finds today too! Sooo cool! ( : Cheers, Si! ( :
Cheers Tracy - he thought he’d snapped is ACL but powered on 👍🏻🐾🧡
Poor Steve - he can’t catch a break with those legs! LOL I honestly just typed that and realized what I’d said - obviously, I am wrong about that! 😂😂 Hope he’s healing from his various issues and feeling better! Ouch! Good thing he didn’t get involved in moving the cannon balls about - he’d have a hernia now besides! 😉
Speaking of ouch, how you suffer for your art! Great sculpture, Si! Your work is always interesting.
Wow, those cannon balls are awesome. Amazing finds. I love the sculpture you made.
Thanks Carol! 👍🏻🐾🧡
Hey from Upstate New York, wine country 🍷 CHEERS!
Hi Jill! Cheers!
Gosh - I hope Steve is doing okay. 🤗 That certainly was a freak accident. You guys will have to be more careful next time. 😮💨 Nice job on the sculpture. 😁 I was expecting you to polish up the bullet, but it's still okay as is. 😁 See you next time. 😊
I do tend to wince when I see a hammer in your hands... though even I might be tempted to go at one of those 60lb-ders with a bit of welly. Can't imagine picking that rust off flake by flake. Looking forward to seeing you both again(and Nick/Nic!) in September x
Cheers Kate! Job done eh!?
What a pair!!! Balls like that no wonder you walked funny 😂 Another great adventure lads!
Cheers Karen! 😂
Great art piece! Hi sweet Daisy!
Very nice Cooper spiral with the wood and bullet👍😊very creative 💜
Great video. Thanks for the laughs! Except for the leg. Damn!
I had my doubts, but once again you pulled out a good one!
