Just purchased the Strymon Zuma after doing some research and reading reviews, I am totally satisfied with this power supply....not a peep out of my otherwise noise plagued pedalboard. You will not be sorry with this purchase! Slightly expensive....BUT WELL WORTH IT.
Was going to get a Truetone CS12 - then I discovered the Strymon power supplies (Zuma, Ojai). The CS12 is good but the Strymons have more output and can handle anything, super quiet and totally isolated, with that filter to ensure clean, perfect power supply. And they are modular!
Great vid. Made me really happy I bough the strymon. Never been so excited about a power supply. I got a space Sputnik 3 and was running it though a one spot daisy chain from the wall so there was some noise..... with the strymon no more and all my pedal sound exactly like they are supposed to with no bull shit noise. Love it
I've been pretty satisfied with my Voodoo Mondo. I very much like the sag feature on my boss OS-2. 6.4V is a sweet spot on that pedal. I have a few power hogs on my board, and so far no problems supplying power. It's an isolated supply, but it is a little big.
I wish I new about these high current power supplies 3 years ago. I had a voodoo lab pedal power but for the multitude of high current devices like the H9 and the Strymons I had to plug into a power strip with a multitude of wall warts hanging off the back. It was a real mess
Thats because u using pp2plus it wont handle big current, why not using 4x4 or mondo? Im too wanna upgrade my pp2plus but still dont know which one will i buy. Stay voodoo or changing into other brand
Probably a super dumb question but I wonder if it’d look weird having my BigSky on top of the Zuma? I don’t have the space on my board so that would be my only option. Does it get too hot?
Mondo is good, for sure, but kinda big. Digital wouldn’t have enough ports. I’m very happy with the strymon supplies. Since making this video I bought 2 strymon Ojai. The daisy chaining function is great between them. I also changed to a board that lets me put it underneath (some kind of pedal train board). Check out the video I have on my “favorite features” and you’ll see some improvements in my overall board design.
Thank you for this vid. Considering a Zuma and I have one question if you have the time to answer I'd really appreciate it. My board is simple; old univibe, old Whipple VOX wah, old ibanez delay, 84' TS-9, keeley ds-1, EQ, looper. I live in the crumbling ruins of a house built in 1952. No grounded outlets just a bunch of 2 pronged crap! Needless to say makes my distortions and OD's buzz since I have to use a 2 prong power strip to the wall outlet and a 1-Spot daisy chain plugged into the strip. If i use a Zuma into that power strip instead, do you think i'll be cured of this buzzing curse or just burn this house down and move? Thanks
I don’t think the problem is your house. In fact a lot of ground loop noise is eliminated by removing the ground pin of components (but for modern safety standards, not recommended). I bet your rig has the same problem in places outside your house. I would try to find out what the offending piece of your rig is by simplifying everything. Go guitar to amp, and add in the components until you find the problem. For a cheap fix you could get another one spot on that component. If that solves your problem, then any of the isolating power supplies will work for you. Outside of your looper (which I’m not sure about) I think your pedals are analog and not high current hogs, so PP2+ would be just as good as zuma. Given you seem to dig old classic pedals, I’m guessing you’re not getting digital pedals soon (those are the real problem).

Why did you install the power supply on the top side of the board? Is there no room underneath the board for the power supply?? Not an angled pedalboard??
How do you like it ( so far )? I am thinking about Upgrading from my Voodoo Labs ISO-5? Any issues with Loose Screws or the Chassis Bending / Flexing? There were some concerns from users on The Gear Page. also Love your Cable Management System. Where did you purchase that to Organize your Pedalboard. Really looks Professional.
Michael Caz thanks! I still use the Zuma, love it so much, I bought 2 Ojais to go with it. Zero problems at all! I have since upgraded all my cabling when I moved everything to a pedaltrain board. s2seltaeb They’re called “StompShields”. They do exactly what they say, and keep me from kicking my settings out of whack (which I don’t tweak very often). I think they’re only sold online. I like them a lot, but a little expensive, it’s like 25 bucks for 5 sets (shield and knob).
Where do you recommend getting your pedal buttons? Knob rings? I need some.... Also trying to decide between the ojai or Zuma based on my needs. Probably going to get both eventually; let's be real. Lol
Ryan The knob rings are called “stompshields”. To my knowledge they are only available direct from the supplier online. He is based out of Los Angeles. His website is currently up, but he is temporarily not selling because he is changing his manufacturer. I wrote to him recently and he said he hopes to be backup in this Fall. I recommend contacting him on his site. Very friendly and helpful dude. The switch covers are made by a company called barefoot buttons. There are a lot of distributors, on eBay and Reverb.com. There is a boutique shop near me in San Jose called Vision Guitar that carries them in their shop. I think they also sell a lot on Reverb.
I am looking for something that can power my hungry larger pedals like Digitech Whammy DT, Boss MD-500, and Pigtronix Infinity Looper. Would this work well for it?
It looks like you shouldn’t have a problem with the Zuma. According to pedal specs on these you will be fine. The looper is an 18v pedal so you’ll need to use the switch selector plug. You’ll be under the current draw specs for all 3 of these. Good in the hood...
If you plan to run a large strymon pedal with a voodoolab power supply you need to use an amp doubler lead, NOT the voltage doubler! I ran the “stryfector” on my Mondo and they all worked fine!
Strymon Timeline requires 300ma. The power 2 I reviewed here has 100ma outputs and 2 250. You would have to use a least one of the 250ma outputs with the amp doubling cable (which simply connects across 2 outputs in parallel thereby stacking the capacity). It would work but gobbles up an extra output jack. I can’t speak to the Mondo because I never owned one. It does look pretty powerful.
No... no "mounting brackets" needed. BUT, in order to get the Zuma's IEC plug location to match a Predaltrain front rail when mounting the Zuma underneath the Pedaltrain board... you'll need to cut a piece of 1/2" plywood the footprint size of the Zuma... then make a Velcro sandwich, PT/plywood/Zuma... A Voodoo Lab PedalPower 2's IEC connector will line up fine under a Pedaltrain of the sizes you mention, and you honestly would need to pry the Zuma off the underside in order to get it off. You DO NOT need to spend extra money for a "bracket"... -- FWIW, what you DIDN'T say was that the Voodoo Lab unit produces only 100mA per outlet. The Strymon Zuma produces 500mA per outlet. I can use ONE outlet on my Zuma for most of my analog devices with a daisy chain cable between them and out of the Zuma. It is perfectly quiet on my board... Footnote, if by any chance you run out of outlets on the Zuma, Strymon also makes all their power supplies with the ability to add their Ojai Expansion kits. They are also small enough to Velcro beside the Zuma underneath a decent sized Pedaltrain board. Also, the problem with using the Voodoo Lab MONDO is it's immense size... it weighs just shy of 3 lbs. The Zuma only weigh 1-1/4lbs... big difference for still not the same mount of output, etc... MONDO is 10.75" x 3.4" x 1.75" (FOUR INCHES longer), Zuma is 6.8" x 3.3" x 1.8" www.strymon.net/product-category/power-supplies/

The Boss tu-3 tuner has a pass thru 9v output that I use for he compressor. The tuner is a very quiet pedal and basically is just working as a buffer so it plays well with probably any pedal. Very observant question!
I'm considering getting the Zuma. I have a few older Boss ACA pedals on my board like the CE2 & HM2. I notice you're using a CE2 on your board. Any issues powering it? Cheers
No problems whatsoever. I also now power an Analogman SunFace. (In the place of the POG). Fuzzface type pedals have unique power considerations. Zuma is great. I haven’t looked back.
Did you find that this power supply is quiet? I'm having a terrible hum issue with my T-Rex Fuel Tank Classic and I want to try something else. If you read closely, T-Rex's website says that the "sections" are isolated, so the 'eight 9-volt outputs' section is isolated from the '12v DC and 12v AC outputs' section, but each of the 9v outputs are not isolated from each other. I am hoping the Zuma will resolve this.
SLM1 Zuma is very quiet. I have never used the trex fuel tank, but from the description, it is not isolated. The zuma can go do 9 and 12v DC, but no the AC. I found it to be equally quiet as the pedal power, but with higher current to accommodate digital pedal. Also digital pedals tend to be very noisy and basically require isolation. That is probably why strymon got into making their own.
I can’t see the LEDs under the barefoot buttons. It’s a clear “footpad” that I stuck there, which acts like a prism or lens to scatter the LED light so I can see it.
Here’s the question OK zuma it’s quiet but does it make sound better our pedals? . I had the daisy one spot made by visual sound and I was so happy with it it actually made my pedal sound better I compared with other adapters and really make my distortion sound better crisper cleaner better. Until it burned las for a few years then I bought another 2 1 spot but this time make it by True Tone. it was not even close to the quality of the one spot made by visual sound not even close doesn’t sound the same and my other pedals doesn’t even have the same sound so I don’t care if there’s new adapters they give you a 400 mA I wanna know if they sound better. That’s the main question. I’m telling you this because I really compare every single pedals with other adapters
Ivan Alejandro it’s very interesting about what you discovered on the different one spot supplies. I suspect your first one was introducing some signal noise that was musically pleasing. It probably is similar to how some people prefer dying batteries in certain pedals. The problem is that can be really difficult to duplicate as you found. I want the absolute cleanest power so I don’t have to worry about so many variables. If something breaks, I want to just replace it and go. It’s the same reason I don’t hotrod my pedals or amps. I think your only option is to buy a few supplies and test them out to see if you can get “it” back. A $250 supply probably isn’t your answer.
@@tcarad2 Yes actually that’s what I think the best is to try some adapters and see if they give me the best sound because believe it or not It will change your sound drastically there’s less sustain and it doesn’t sound as alive as it used to. In other words I was happy with my daisychain I didn’t have any noise and pedals used to sound very good right now I would like to buy the MXR 238 because it’s affordable. has 18 12 8 volts in a variety of mA. But at the same time I’m afraid of buying it and to have the same dead sound that I’m getting with this adapters. I’m pretty sure the strymons got to be the best thing
I have a Flint. Currently it is powered by an Strymon Ojai (in the place of the pedal power on the board in the video). Don’t worry about breaking your flint as long as you are giving it no more than 9volts. The pedal will try draw enough current to run. If it taps out of current it may just not run at all (being a digital pedal) but you won’t hurt anything.
I ran my Flint through variety of isolated and regular power supplies, and it doesn't require anything special. Any generic 9V pedal power supply you can find in a music store will work just fine.
Can I use a snake cable to power 2-3 pedals in each output of Ojai? For example 1 out to Strymon Timeline, 1 to Bluesky, 1 to compressor, tuner & phaser, 1 to 3 drives/fuzzes, and the other one to power a tremolo and chorus?
I think you mean a daisy chain cable. Yes, each Zuma or Ojai output supplies up to 500ma of current. Compare that to the 100ma from a standard Voodoo Labs pedal power 2plus, or 250ma from one of the 2 high current outputs on it. You could easily power several pedals from each of those outputs. (Most analog pedals use only a few dozen ma at most). However, if you daisy chain pedals, they will no longer be isolated, so you could have a noise problem on one of your outputs. I think testing and strategic ordering could minimize this. I did another video after I got my Ojai which shows me powering a usb from the Ojai. I was very happy about that.

Hi, great video. I live in the UK. I have the voodoo pedal 2 to power Strymon BigSky, Flint plus Boss chorus and other 9v pedals. I have a Hall and collins signature Echo and power it from it's own psu from the out of the voodoo 2. It all powers up but I have noticed sound is coloured and a click from when I switch the Flint on and off which sounds through my amp. Would the Zuma cure my problem? Many thanks 🇬🇧
Vince Ball You might find it works, but I think it would be unreliable. The big sky is rated for needing 300ma of current, and the most the high current jacks on the pedal power 2 (and 2 plus) can handle is 250ma. It’s hard to say that the pedal always needs that much current, but that mismatch is asking for trouble. In general, it’s my understanding that digital pedals are an all or nothing for functioning. If it can reliably draw enough current it will work fine. On the other hand analog pedals (like a boss chorus), will always produce sound, even at sub optimal current/voltage, but may exhibit different sound characteristics depending on the available power. That is why the voodoo has the sag knobs. I suspect it’s the analog pedals causing the coloring you hear.
T.I.N Mateus if you daisy chain off one of the power outlets it is no longer isolated among those pedals. But I suppose if you pick quiet pedals to daisy chain you should be ok.
MacDrevi0us All dual lock. I love that stuff. Same as the Boss BD-2, I put it on all the rubber parts of the back minus the label and cut edges to accommodate the screws. It’s very secure!

MacDrevi0us I use the 3m. Not cheap, but worth it. It sticks to the boss rubber fine. I have it on my Boss TU-3, BD-2, DD-20, RC-30 in addition to the 30 year old CE-2. No issues! You should clean the surface with rubbing alcohol prior to applying the dual lock, otherwise you just end up sticking to a layer of dirt and grease.
MacDrevi0us I just buy on amazon. But I will warn you that some sellers cheat you. Authentic/honest sellers will sell the original package which for every foot, there is a second foot to pair it with. I have had sellers on Amazon tamper with the package and only ship one of the 2 rolls. I've alerted Amazon when I've seen this happen.
It’s only slightly larger than the voodoo PP2+. Strymon makes some underside mounting brackets which I’m using on my new pedaltrain pedal board. I have another video you can see that on.

Mondo is a good supply too. But big. Most people can’t fit 12 pedal on a board anyway. For those that do, the zuma can scale with ojai. I have a 2 sub boards each with an ojai that I can run by themselves or I can stack them with the zuma. I like having sub boards for portability and modularity.
Both make clean power. I can’t say they make pedals sound better, they just make them sound the way they are supposed to. The only problem with PP2 is the lack of current for digital pedals. Strymon will not disappoint in providing lots of clean power.
True about mondo. I’ve never evaluated it, but I suspect it uses a similar switching power supply design for the digital outputs. Same with the new Pedal power 3+. Likely will perform equivalently.
Tone Pursuit That’s not too weird, the power supply may be able to deliver more current, (or the digital pedal run on less) depending on factors, but certainly that would be running outside the guaranteed spec. For me it would run occasionally, but other times the digital pedals would just crap out. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend it. Since I put this together, the Strymon has been stable as a rock.
The PP2+ has two special outputs for digital pedals that need a lot of Ma (Line 6, Strymon) it works perfect and fine just like the Strymon. But you only have two. They are output 5 and 6. If you want to use more digital pedals you need a different power supply.
I found that voodoo lab also have transformer hum when it sits very close to pedals, I have to replace all my voodoo labs power supplies and everything works much cleaner naw cut my noice level down more than half way just switching to strymon power
The voodoo supply has a huge transformer that’s probably making the noise. Unfortunately there’s no way around a big magnet for the kind of supply it is.

The Pedal Power is an older product not meant for such power needs. Zuma is for all that digital fuckery.

It’s the difference between a switching power supply. Linear power supplies won’t run digital pedals.
Voodoo makes a Mondo and Digital Power Supply that I think would have taken care of your needs as well. Nice to hear the Strymon worked.

Fender engine room is just as good as Strymon. Actually the Fender Engine Room LVL 12 has a built in USB and USB C, Plus Fender is cheaper

Please tell me wanna know... if Zuma has 9 outputs, how are 10 pedals conected in te video... somebody help, Im new at this...
The Boss tu-3 tuner has a pass thru 9v output that I use for he compressor. The tuner is a very quiet pedal and basically is just working as a buffer so it plays well with probably any pedal. Very observant question!
You have a daisy chain cable, you can plug several analogical pedals to just one zuma's output (digital pedals, usually just one per output)
I'm considering getting the Zuma. I have a few older Boss ACA pedals on my board like the CE2 & HM2. I notice you're using a CE2 on your board. Any issues powering it? Cheers
No problems whatsoever. I also now power an Analogman SunFace. (In the place of the POG). Fuzzface type pedals have unique power considerations. Zuma is great. I haven’t looked back.

AaHa! problem solved I'm having the drop out problem with my Strymon pedals & Voodoo Labs!
Did you find that this power supply is quiet? I'm having a terrible hum issue with my T-Rex Fuel Tank Classic and I want to try something else. If you read closely, T-Rex's website says that the "sections" are isolated, so the 'eight 9-volt outputs' section is isolated from the '12v DC and 12v AC outputs' section, but each of the 9v outputs are not isolated from each other. I am hoping the Zuma will resolve this.
SLM1 Zuma is very quiet. I have never used the trex fuel tank, but from the description, it is not isolated. The zuma can go do 9 and 12v DC, but no the AC. I found it to be equally quiet as the pedal power, but with higher current to accommodate digital pedal. Also digital pedals tend to be very noisy and basically require isolation. That is probably why strymon got into making their own.

I can’t see the LEDs under the barefoot buttons. It’s a clear “footpad” that I stuck there, which acts like a prism or lens to scatter the LED light so I can see it.
no sound demo? you just claim that zuma wins? C'mon man I'm trying to decide and I'd like to hear the difference for myself.
Here’s the question OK zuma it’s quiet but does it make sound better our pedals? . I had the daisy one spot made by visual sound and I was so happy with it it actually made my pedal sound better I compared with other adapters and really make my distortion sound better crisper cleaner better. Until it burned las for a few years then I bought another 2 1 spot but this time make it by True Tone. it was not even close to the quality of the one spot made by visual sound not even close doesn’t sound the same and my other pedals doesn’t even have the same sound so I don’t care if there’s new adapters they give you a 400 mA I wanna know if they sound better. That’s the main question. I’m telling you this because I really compare every single pedals with other adapters
Ivan Alejandro it’s very interesting about what you discovered on the different one spot supplies. I suspect your first one was introducing some signal noise that was musically pleasing. It probably is similar to how some people prefer dying batteries in certain pedals. The problem is that can be really difficult to duplicate as you found. I want the absolute cleanest power so I don’t have to worry about so many variables. If something breaks, I want to just replace it and go. It’s the same reason I don’t hotrod my pedals or amps. I think your only option is to buy a few supplies and test them out to see if you can get “it” back. A $250 supply probably isn’t your answer.
@@tcarad2 Yes actually that’s what I think the best is to try some adapters and see if they give me the best sound because believe it or not It will change your sound drastically there’s less sustain and it doesn’t sound as alive as it used to. In other words I was happy with my daisychain I didn’t have any noise and pedals used to sound very good right now I would like to buy the MXR 238 because it’s affordable. has 18 12 8 volts in a variety of mA. But at the same time I’m afraid of buying it and to have the same dead sound that I’m getting with this adapters. I’m pretty sure the strymons got to be the best thing
How do you power the strymon pedals? Is it a specific output from the power supply? I’m afraid to ruin my Flint by not using the right amount of power
I have a Flint. Currently it is powered by an Strymon Ojai (in the place of the pedal power on the board in the video). Don’t worry about breaking your flint as long as you are giving it no more than 9volts. The pedal will try draw enough current to run. If it taps out of current it may just not run at all (being a digital pedal) but you won’t hurt anything.
I ran my Flint through variety of isolated and regular power supplies, and it doesn't require anything special. Any generic 9V pedal power supply you can find in a music store will work just fine.
Can I use a snake cable to power 2-3 pedals in each output of Ojai? For example 1 out to Strymon Timeline, 1 to Bluesky, 1 to compressor, tuner & phaser, 1 to 3 drives/fuzzes, and the other one to power a tremolo and chorus?
I think you mean a daisy chain cable. Yes, each Zuma or Ojai output supplies up to 500ma of current. Compare that to the 100ma from a standard Voodoo Labs pedal power 2plus, or 250ma from one of the 2 high current outputs on it. You could easily power several pedals from each of those outputs. (Most analog pedals use only a few dozen ma at most).
However, if you daisy chain pedals, they will no longer be isolated, so you could have a noise problem on one of your outputs. I think testing and strategic ordering could minimize this.
I did another video after I got my Ojai which shows me powering a usb from the Ojai. I was very happy about that.

Those are “StompShields”. I don’t know if the guy is still in business, but you can find new old stock ones if you look hard.

Hi, great video. I live in the UK. I have the voodoo pedal 2 to power Strymon BigSky, Flint plus Boss chorus and other 9v pedals. I have a Hall and collins signature Echo and power it from it's own psu from the out of the voodoo 2. It all powers up but I have noticed sound is coloured and a click from when I switch the Flint on and off which sounds through my amp. Would the Zuma cure my problem? Many thanks 🇬🇧
Vince Ball You might find it works, but I think it would be unreliable. The big sky is rated for needing 300ma of current, and the most the high current jacks on the pedal power 2 (and 2 plus) can handle is 250ma. It’s hard to say that the pedal always needs that much current, but that mismatch is asking for trouble.
In general, it’s my understanding that digital pedals are an all or nothing for functioning. If it can reliably draw enough current it will work fine. On the other hand analog pedals (like a boss chorus), will always produce sound, even at sub optimal current/voltage, but may exhibit different sound characteristics depending on the available power. That is why the voodoo has the sag knobs. I suspect it’s the analog pedals causing the coloring you hear.

T.I.N Mateus if you daisy chain off one of the power outlets it is no longer isolated among those pedals. But I suppose if you pick quiet pedals to daisy chain you should be ok.
Btw, how’d you hold the ce-2 down? Did you put dual lock right on the rubber? Thanks
MacDrevi0us All dual lock. I love that stuff. Same as the Boss BD-2, I put it on all the rubber parts of the back minus the label and cut edges to accommodate the screws. It’s very secure!
Bob Smith so it grips the rubber well? I’ve never known what to do with boss pedals on a dual lock board. Which dual lock do you use btw?

MacDrevi0us I use the 3m. Not cheap, but worth it. It sticks to the boss rubber fine. I have it on my Boss TU-3, BD-2, DD-20, RC-30 in addition to the 30 year old CE-2. No issues! You should clean the surface with rubbing alcohol prior to applying the dual lock, otherwise you just end up sticking to a layer of dirt and grease.

MacDrevi0us I just buy on amazon. But I will warn you that some sellers cheat you. Authentic/honest sellers will sell the original package which for every foot, there is a second foot to pair it with. I have had sellers on Amazon tamper with the package and only ship one of the 2 rolls. I've alerted Amazon when I've seen this happen.
Is the strymon can power the high gain pedals ?
It will power anything that need 9v, 12v or 18v DC.
Is the zuma power supply big in size than the voodoo lab? Got a pedalboard with universal mount and try to decide between this two.
It’s only slightly larger than the voodoo PP2+. Strymon makes some underside mounting brackets which I’m using on my new pedaltrain pedal board. I have another video you can see that on.

Vodoo Mondo has more juice and outlets than the Voodo Power Plus and gives 12 outputs
Mondo is a good supply too. But big. Most people can’t fit 12 pedal on a board anyway. For those that do, the zuma can scale with ojai. I have a 2 sub boards each with an ojai that I can run by themselves or I can stack them with the zuma. I like having sub boards for portability and modularity.
A Pedaltrain Classic 2 or Nevo 24 which am looking for should fit the bigger power supply underneath . 😉

Both make clean power. I can’t say they make pedals sound better, they just make them sound the way they are supposed to. The only problem with PP2 is the lack of current for digital pedals. Strymon will not disappoint in providing lots of clean power.

Not true, voodoo lab mondo will power all those pedals.
True about mondo. I’ve never evaluated it, but I suspect it uses a similar switching power supply design for the digital outputs. Same with the new Pedal power 3+. Likely will perform equivalently.
So weird, I have the PP2+ and it powers my DD500 and my Strymon Bigsky just fine.
Tone Pursuit That’s not too weird, the power supply may be able to deliver more current, (or the digital pedal run on less) depending on factors, but certainly that would be running outside the guaranteed spec. For me it would run occasionally, but other times the digital pedals would just crap out. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend it. Since I put this together, the Strymon has been stable as a rock.
The PP2+ has two special outputs for digital pedals that need a lot of Ma (Line 6, Strymon) it works perfect and fine just like the Strymon. But you only have two. They are output 5 and 6. If you want to use more digital pedals you need a different power supply.
I found that voodoo lab also have transformer hum when it sits very close to pedals, I have to replace all my voodoo labs power supplies and everything works much cleaner naw cut my noice level down more than half way just switching to strymon power
The voodoo supply has a huge transformer that’s probably making the noise. Unfortunately there’s no way around a big magnet for the kind of supply it is.
