I recently picked up a Strymon Timeline. Instead of showing some regular sounds, I tried to showcase some unusual sounds with it.
Probably a lot more demos of the Timeline coming soon (so many possibilities!)

May I ask why you are plugging 3 cords in, instead of one. Would it help the fuzzy sound you would get while recording? Awesome video by the way.

It is one of those pedals that late at night after a marathon of twisting knobs you write THE ONE... A true masterpiece that will alter the course of music and even mankind.
The next morning you hit play to listen to it and are like "What the hell is this garbage? These are the sounds you hear when you are dying in a elevator.
Like 100 from me. You are amazing. :))
Thanks for actually showing off the pedal and not just chatting all the way through it like every other video put there!!! Great review!
Great video! No talking just hearing some of the most beautiful sounds imaginable. Exactly what I wanted to hear.I have a BigSky and this one is next!
Watched this video first the time and made myself a promise...gonna save up to buy this Strymon Timeline delay!!! Gottttttta have those sounds!!!! The music takes me to places I wanna be....so beautiful!
It is expensive yes, but I think it would be worth it, I must also save up... Don't know how many months thou
Richard Obdeijn though the sounds are really really gorgeous, when you have a delay on pedal A and want to switch fast to another delay on pedal B, beware that there is a lag of almost a second before the delay on pedal B kicks in. Only reason why i had to send mine back a shame though because apart from that major issue the sounds are amazing
Richard Obdeijn have you considered the volante
My next pedalboard: volume, compressor, overdrive, timeline.
This thing easily replaces every wet effect pedal out there. 😳
I’d put the Volume after the Comp thoug :-)
I love that smeared preset. I have a tough time getting off that one. It seems to defy its settings.
Dude you showed me what I have always wanted.
Sounds great and sounds like it would be great for synths too.
7:35 may be my favourite sound
Loving that smeare sound setting. It Takes me to another place. Great pedal thanks for a great demo.
perhaps check out' the monk by the sea'
People say this is expensive but cmon man there is no delay pedal like this. This can inspire you to actually write stuff and this can't be priced
Yeah but most delays dont fit my choice i like reverby sounding delays with less repeats so i bought a fender mirror image delay. Best musical delay, these new technological delays with all thos unneccessary 100s of repeats just remove the musicality of the instrument, these pedals dont let a guitar sound like a guitar but sound like something like a freakin moog arppegiator!
@@yakshrajsingh8121 god forbid people do something creative with their instruments
@@yakshrajsingh8121 but when your moog don’t have an arpeggiater it’s perfect.
@@yakshrajsingh8121 Pedals of this nature demand learning. Not just plug and play. Internal pattern and sound alterations are there to use on most of these high end pedals. Strymon is no different. But we all have opinions. I use three of their pedals and yet to find a desired sound I could not achieve. But I hear ya. Nice demo!
100%
Those sounds Takes me somewhere far where I find myself peaceful
So excited, just bought one. Gonna pair it up with the Big Sky and see where it all goes....Merry Christmas and Bon Noel.
That's going to be magic. Happy holidays also!
Merry Xmas John!!
8:44 has to be my fave
Been main delay for four years. This is a fantastic home studio staple. Not a bad sound in it. The Fresh Tape preset alone is worth the price, then theres at least 10 others that make it an essential now semi vintage wonder box.
So many great ideas in your playing, you pushed me over to your studio albums...
Just bought one of these to accompany my memory man, gonna take me a little while to get familiar with all it's capabilities but I'm excited I've wanted one for a long time and I'm glad I finally got to add it to my board
Saltwater Repeats is a go to delay for me, use it all the time. Just shorten the repeats, slow the timing a little and reduce the mix to your liking. Gives a nice delay for many types of uses, clean, overdriven etc. When you do need ambient, just reverse....easy
I completely and wholeheartedly agree
would love to get one this year as a goal. Thanks buddy ❤
Just got this pedal today... I'm late to the party but this was a great vid to get me started
Have fun!
I was about to sell my timeline and big sky, your videos changed my mind.
Yeah, I love the saltwater. The fizift you're using is pretty cool, I'd overlooked that, but the ice setting are just so cool in general.
You play so nice melodys and it sounds so good trough the Timeline. Nice. Best wishes.
I would love to see some of the internal settings for these tones. Sounds great.
1:30 what chord you were playing brother that was amazing 💯
0:01 [to 57s] .... dramatic, transfixing, beyond sad, skillful, briliant.
Sounds like HEALTH - PAIN
The guitar playing in this video is top notch mate.
love that 8-bit/lo-fi
Seen this again and I want to buy this pedal 1 more time again.
You had it and sold it an me appreciate it again?
man gotta love the timeline!

This is absolutely amazing. Im learning a lot about theory. You teach so clearly. I appreciate it a lot. Thanks dude for that amazing gift.
Brilliant piece of kit
Beautiful.
i love strymon timeline. excellent video as always. 🕉
Thanks Antoine, the sounds are interesting and rich.
Love this! Thanks for sharing.
The swell song sounds very HEALTH inspired
The ultimate pedal if you want to start an Explosions In The Sky cover band ;-)
Fantastic demo
1.00 Smear reminds me of the late great John Martyn
Small hours!
Ah hail JM. Love that sound
Excellent work!!!
I like it although with reserve considering the price and the fact that like any special FX, I am pretty sure that after a 1000 hrs of playing with it, you will settle on two or three wowowowiwiwiwowowo presets and then it will gather dust on the floor of your studio beside all that other stuff that you have and not used. Yet, for music's sake, ain't that what's its all about? Making noise, having a great time, changing your set up, buying stuff, playing, recording...I just love every part of it.
The Timeline has been on my pedalboard for 10 years and I still love it like I did at first! I love twisting it to create all kinds of modulation effects by setting up delays so fast that you only hear the tone with no delay. I do that to get tremolo, LoFi tones and such. I obviously also use it a lot for delays. Tons of presets I use often! I totally get what you're saying, and it applies to many pedals, but not the Timeline for me!
Cool intro riff!
Sounds good! I’ve had my timeline for about 6 years now. Love it.
Wien yes topp
Me volvió loco este pedal!!
I’ve always hesitate to buy it because off every sets i just can’t understand it.. Can you tell me if that pedal is so hard or is it in my mind ?
This video is the reason I bought a Timeline. It’s a very inspiring pedal. I can’t wait for it arrive so it can consume my very being. Thanks 👍
How is it going for you?
@@jordieg-us4ee Ah not so great. I don’t think I’m smart enough for this pedal ha.
@@olliemac32 it is tough to use yes?
@@jordieg-us4ee For someone who doesn’t have much knowledge of delay… the pedal has a mind of its own ha. I need to read the 27 page manual just to get it back to the way it was the first time I turned it on…
@@olliemac32 good to know thanks bro hope you figure it out 👍
Man, I own one of these and I keep coming back to salt water. When I hear him play it, I remember why.
Hey Antoine! When recording the Timeline in stereo: Are you just plugging guitar into the input and stereo output to your interface or are you running guitar into amp, FX loop into the pedal and stereo sending to your interface??
Sounds great, and useful! Just out of curiosity, I know Strymon just put out that tape styled pedal, but how does the dual function work for emulating a binson multi head, in your opinion?
Hi Antoine, thank you for all your great tests... About the timeline, how do you think It would sound, paired to a Yamaha CP70?
Probably awesome. I paired a Specular Tempus with my Rhodes and it is amazing
Amazing sounds and playing! Is the song from 00:00 to 00:55 a real song or an impro? It's not on the album you linked in the description
They were all improvised clips in this demo. Thanks, Tomasz!
Heard alittle Wicked Game in there.
Same here! :)
Yup
I love to play ambient kinda stuff, I am using line 6 pod hd 500x with riverside and bigsky, is this pedal worth it ??
Your presets are incredible.
These are stock presets, I touched nothing on it when I did this demo!
Thank you! Any way to get the DRY guitar track from this video?
Great job bud. Question. This bad boy versus volante? Choice? Thanks 🙏
I know I'm late, the timeline is more versatile, the volante has its own flavour though that the timeline doesn't its a hard one.
04:50 is this in any of his albums?
Always been a pedal junkie and retired the old EXH ones due to noise. I have the Big Sky and now this and tbo I still enjoy tinkering with sounds but the price of admission is high. I am guessing I have maybe 6 presets that I actually use per unit. So thats abound $100 each. I easily have 50 other pedals and should have bought a Kemper or similar years ago.
That’s not $100 per preset it’s more like 50c for every hour you sat loving how you sound.
You're saying that these sounds are presets meaning you didn't tweak them at all??
Nope, straight out of the box!
Are you really only using timeline and no other effects on this demo???? I really thought that this kind of sounds is comming from big sky or blue sky... because its mostly reverb... thanks Man... this is really good information!!!
Just the Timeline! It is very versatile.
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar timeline is the best! You are the best Antoine
How many professional musicians here - as in that's your only source of income - use this pedal in your shows? Do you use it for more than one song? Do you have examples on youtube from your shows? Thank you
It’s a bit like 66% of an Eventide Eclipse in a pedal.
Starting from 1 sec. To 10:05 minutes. Im flying.
Hey there. I just bought a time line and was wondering why I can only see bank number not preset names. I’ve tapped the type button and it just show me bpm for that bank. Please help mate.
amazing video, teach you how to do it
wow this makes me want to stop using computer plugins for my guitar! The sounds is so fat and clean. Can you tell me are you straight into your interface for this recording or is it amped and mic'ed?
This is amped and mic'ed! Shure SM57 microphones and my amps are a Vox AC15 and a Suhr Badger 30 recorded together in stereo!
I was hoping you said Di'ed lol I don't have amps but I see that's what the sound I'm loving is coming from. Thanks for the info!!!
Man you just inspired me to stop recording with only amp sims, so far i've ordered the bigsky, an voxac10c1, sm57, and tim pearce overdrive. next is the timeline and choosing a good second amp for stereo. Could you suggest a cheaper/smaller alternative to the Suhr amp to get the same quality sound you have? im thinking of a Fender Pro Junior IV 1x10 Tube Amp 15 Watts Lacquered Tweed. Also did you use your room mic for this recording?
I've found this can work great with plugins. Running stereo into two instances of helix native for amp sims is sublime.
Antoine Michaud amps panned hard left and right? Super great sound. Box sound was clear but I thought simulation but the Suhr I didn’t get for sure. Again great sound!!
Can you play A and B at the same time and Layer delays? Curious how the presets work.
Unfortunately, no.
Would you be able to tell me what amps/microphones you used for this? The sound is so full and gorgeous I need it in my daily life.. Thank you
Amps: Suhr Badger 30 on the left, Vox AC15 on the right. Shure SM57 microphones to record. That's it!
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar Thank you 🙏
That explains why it sounds so good, those are expensive amplifiers 😅
Can you show us this sound's configurations?
These are stock presets, untouched. It's unfortunate, I should've shown the banks on screen instead... you only have the names to search for them :(
Nice demo. If this unit is hooked up to a monophonic synth, can it turn the mono sound into a stereo sound? Thanks.
If you come out of both outputs and use a ping pong kind of delay, it could sound stereo, yes!
Great sounds Antoine!
Please could you tell me if there is a way with timeline:
I want to use an expression pedal to create delays that continue as I bring down the expression pedal so that I can play "on top of the delay" with a clean dry sound? For example on the one creating a delay and then jam upon it on the 2-3-4 .. cant get it to work. Bringing down the pedal takes away the delay.. Would love to get this working..
There's an easier way! If you put the pedal in buffered bypass mode (meaning the delays will still trail even if you turn the pedal off), you can just disengage the pedal for the 2-3-4, reengage it on the 1, and repeat that cycle for each bar. Other than that, I don't know how you could do that with an expression pedal. If you map the expression pedal to the mix, it will kill the delays, if you map it to the feedback, you will lose the delay quickly, and other parameters are just filters. So... on and off in buffered bypass would be the only solution I can think of! :-)
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar Thank you for your respons, that makes me come up with an idea.. maybe I can map the expression pedal on the rc-300 to control on/off on the timeline pedal then..
Otherwise its a great advice, only that I want to get rid of the small but hearable "click" when using the timeline pedal as I sometimes play in very intimate settings like meditations and so.
Am I missing something? Are the internal settings posted somewhere else? Thanks
You can go here and match the name of the preset on the pedal to the names on the guide (sorry I should have showed the Banks instead of the Patch Names on my video): www.strymon.net/documents/TIMELINE_Factory_Presets.pdf
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar Thank you Antoine! I really appreciate the info and your posts.
that intro made my forget my own name.
Can you post the settings to these sounds?
It's all stock presets. Just try to find the name of the presets you like on the pedal here and find the matching title in the guide: www.strymon.net/documents/TIMELINE_Factory_Presets.pdf
There are few pieces of gear I consider perfect this is the exception ❤️
Great video, are those all presets you used -or- customized? Thanks
All stock presets!
How about this vs the Boss DD200, DD8 or DD500, Any idea?
Strymon pedals are the top tier in my opinion, boss isn't on the same level. I have a big sky. Best pedal I ever bought
Why "Surprising"?
Salut Antoine!!
I like that last one the most, I guess. Can you share the settings please?
The names make me think they''re the default patches that come with the unit. Google "Timeline Presets" and you'll find the PDF strymon created with all preset settings
How did you get the lo-fi sound you did first? Could you possibly email me they parameters for the pedal?
These are all factory presets! You can go on Strymon's page to look at the parameters here: www.strymon.net/documents/TIMELINE_Factory_Presets.pdf
This one is the fourth one (Bank 1 - B) called BIT CLOCK.
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar no other pedals in the chain? thanks!
Hi! advise what to choose Timeline ,or Flashback 4x?
I think Timeline. There is just so much you can do..
Did you only use the Timeline or you added other pedals for some exemples ?
Only the Timeline!
Is it a delay? Is it a reverb? Yes, yes it is.
Still to this day, nothing has ever come close to the Timeline. The delay blocks in most multi effects units and leading guitar modelling processors don’t compare to the sounds available from a Timeline.
All The setting as per shown on the knobs?
0:58
I'm really hoping for eurorack version of their pedals. I own the Magneto and starlab, soooooo want the el capistan, did and the timeline in eurorack format.
Tabs for 4:51 plzzzzz!!!!!
