performance was better than i expected on the M3 Max
M3 Pro details to come
do a hair tutorial, i so want hair like that
so tempting M1max is enough for me but...
Could you please show the base M3 Pro, I know the upgraded M3 Pro will be fast but I’d like to know the upgrade between M3 + 16gb ram -> M3 Pro base model!
Yes the performance of the noise oil resistant coating was quite impressive
My hypothesis is that the performance is pretty much the sane as M2 pro, but much better efficiency. And if it has performance improvements, it would come from that.
Dave pioneered the nose test as a new benchmark for all laptops. Incredible
i wish youtube had haha react button, your comment is true though 😄
Marques is gonna do it next, just watch 😅
I would like to see a benchmark roundup of M1, M2 and M3 MacBooks to see how well they perform under the nose test, as well as any laptop that comes out with the upcoming Snapdragon X chip to see how it stacks up.
Marques will do ass test
💀
I'm glad Apple nailed the fingerprint tests, the fingerprints you get on Razer's laptops are so annoying
clean it often buddy, isn't that satisfying to you?
Lol!!!! It's totally different types of surfaces; the razer is an actual black laptop unlike the apple one
@@carholic-sz3qv they're both using anodized aluminum, it's down to the coating process and the colour
@@carholic-sz3qvit’s definitely more than just the color. The anodization process is diff and smudges are much less noticeable on the mbp
it still kinda shows a bit... it will still need cleaning time to time if you want to keep it that way.... at least I could still see the smudge a bit but not as much to be fair. I hope I can get this one by the end of the year. my Intel MBP is struggling.
Tim Cook should present all future laptops to be nose tested and call it the Dave's Nose Test. The DNT.
Iconic 😂😂
Knowing Tim he'll make it fingerprint resistant with DNT alright (Do Not Touch)
DNT 😂😂
"This year, we improved the DNT test score massively, it’s incredible, we are so trilled”
I wish more laptops were DNT proof.
Nose rub test should be a standard way of testing resistance. Dave is always ahead of the curve.
its not only fingerprint resistant, its also nose-print resistant. Love your videos.
Glad you commented this because I was watched the beginning without sound and thought he was licking them :/
Thanks for keeping this short and to the point rather than the obligatory 10+ minutes.
this
And spending half the video on the colour. The real reason to upgrade
His direct to the point style really grew on me.
@@mediaconsumption3972I mean, chartes can be paused and viewed for as long as you want.
THANK YOU for including comparisons for Logic Pro, I feel like most reviewers focus on video editing since that's their forte but it's a major factor for a lot of ppl looking to upgrade. The laptop seems very appealing for folks still running an intel macbook like myself
I'm glad you did the nose test. I do it myself. It is, by far, the most reliable and technical way to test it. Worth a sub, guys!
Apple's pricing model for RAM upgrades was completely expected but it's still disappointing.
I definitely care about the color, and thanks for covering it, I was waiting for reviews to come out just for this !
Dave is so great at reviewing stuff which really are "immersive" 01:08
Just wanted to say that your tests are pretty sweet. Like, I didn't expect a Logic Pro tracks with Serum and Omnisphere but that's 100% relevant. I like the Xcode WebKit test too. Thanks for making these kinds of benchmarks. They're way more "real life" than some of the synthetic ones I see from other reviewers.
Seriously: I love when people get way to deep into details like the microscope view of the Color because it just elevates the amount of thought went into a device like this and how perfectly they are or can be sometimes
Perfect video! to the point and mentioned everything I needed to know! Thanks David 🔥🔥
The minimalist intro with a brief beep is the BEST in the whole youtube by far .
The only tech youtuber that will rub their nose on a laptop to test its smudge resistance. Dave is truly innovative.
I like this color a lot. The midnight blue had a cool undertone which IMO did not work well with the black keys (blue + black = meh). But this time we have a soft anodized black thats neutral in temperature which is super nice.
Your smudge resistance test is golden.
Excellent review Dave, very technical as usual. Thank you.
Super hyped for this model.
The difference between the baseline M1 vs M3 is small, so small I’m considering getting an M1 MacBook Air after having used MacBook Pro’s all these years. There’s some pretty sweet deals out there now.
I did the same thing. I'm writing this from my M1 MBA.
you knw.. sometimes its really touching seeing us growing old together. thank you for all the effort.
Wow, such dark and colorful graphs. Amazing! Thank you!
Ah, the nose smudge test lol. A new test for all UA-camrs now...
What i love about these newer macs coming out is that the price of the older m1 and m2 will go down. I really want to snag an m2 air to go along with my wifes m1 macbook pro
I just got one like a week ago for 899 it’s nice and super thin
I'm inclined towards the M1 cz of the better heat dissipation but it's obviously older than M2, can you tell me why you're going for the M2 maybe it might change my mind as I'm also looking to upgrade.
@@Thechosen77 oooh. In that midnight color? That's the one my wife wants
@@faisal.mahmood well currently my wife owns the m1 MacBook pro with the touchbar in space gray and that MacBook alone does everything she wants but sometimes when she's away at her desk she wants something a bit lighter that can handle the same tasks. Don't get me wrong, the MacBook pro m1 isn't heavy at all, but it's something about that m2 air weight and thin design that makes my wife want the air. But for pettier reasons, she also just loves that midnight color lol
@@rometherevenant8749 lol I see, thanks
Thanks for the straightforward benchmark
i love watching your amazing explanations
Looking forward to comparision between M1 Pro and M3 Pro. I'm deciding if it's worth the upgrade.
m3 pro has the same performance as the m2 pro
Do you need HDMI 2.1? Or do you need something else that the M3 series provides, like the extra RAM or performance?
@@cameronbosch1213 I'm a software developer, so I'm interested in performance improvements.
probably not haha
worth depends on use
Dave, please include the M1 versions in your performance comparison charts for the future tests.
Many people are wondering if it's worth the upgrade from M1 to M3. Thanks!
It is not wtf
Spoiler alert = it's not. If you need to ask whether to upgrade your M1 to M3, you don't.
Thank you for clearing that dust spec at 0:40 from the Top Dave, it really bothered me for 4 seconds it was there.
Thanks for the fingerprint part which is very important and none talked about it 👍
Now we dub that test - the D2D's Nose Test
More rendering benchmarks please
Man shout out to this guy! He gave us the best smudge test everrrrrr
The deep "hmm" sound in the intro before the beep so satisfying!
*PETITION TO MAKE THE NOSE TEST OFFICIAL FOR EVERY TECH REVIEWER*
The most interesting one to cover is the entry level M3 Pro (11 core), due to being first "reasonable" buy in the lineup, e.g. entry level 14" M2 Pro equivalent, rather than the full decked 12 core model. At least from a consumer (not youtuber) perspective, where you want some of that graphics performance for occasional game, better cooling, faster memory, two screen support. In EU that upgrade to 12 core is $270, on top of already painful $2700 for 11 core version so it's hard to justify.
Cmon bro, let's be real, how many people do you know that actually game on a Mac, besides UA-camrs, or people who do benchmarks?
Purchase a proper gaming grade laptop if you have dedicated gaming as your use case ... 😊
Wow, that's insightful ... facepalm
@@AdmiralulNippleshe said occasional game..like for me it would be OSRS which doesnt require a powerhouse
I appreciate your straight-to-the-point approach .
impressively concise as always!
@dave2d you need to test AI on these as well. It's a huge market now and the real reason most professionals are looking at each platform and weighing pros and cons. It should be straightforward to do stable diffusion benchmarks and get iterations/sec, but I wonder if there's some broader AI workloads.
ya it's coming. it'll be in a more comprehensive performance video
@@Dave2D I am pumped! Than you for doing the work!
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Dave cut straight to the heart about why there may be some last hold-outs to pulling the trigger on a $5k Space Black M3 Max. It was really the only potential annoyance left unanswered. Apple Silicon’s relatively decent track record mitigates most of the other runner-up concerns (throttling, etc) 👍
the nose fingerprint test was a very advanced way of testing and I think you're onto something there
I just upgraded to the baseline M3 Max from the 2019 16 inch MBP. I freaking love this machine!
Marques is running late on his video on this. 😂
He's busy in a tournament or something
The 40 core GPU looks very promising, in fact as per your demonstration it reaches 4080 laptop level performance in some benchmarks.
All that is left to do for Apple is to get developers together and actually optimize their games for the imac and MacBooks like what they did with the A17 pro. That would be phenomenal..
Still can't gaming well.
so a good rtx 4070 laptop is not as good as the m3 max?
Love how you focused on the fingerprint resistant coating. Everything else can be read from website.
Hey Dave, love your content!
Would you do a Black Friday or Buyers Guide video? With all sales coming up, a guide to find the best deals would be nice for people on a budget.
If only these did not start with 8GB of ram standard ...
$$$$$$$$ apple = run by beancounters
Its a choice for people at the bottom end of the market. News flash - some people still live happily with 8GB. Its called choice.....
@@MichaelGGarry
8GB on a $1600 laptop is awful. That’s not bottom market end, it’s supposed to be the MacBook Pro. Not the Air. The 8GB is a poor product for something supposed to be Pro and high end.
@@MichaelGGarry keep sucking that corporate schlong bro
conclusion: dave has oily skin
Great video. Thanks.
It would actually be awesome to see a comparison between Macbook Pro M3 and Macbook Air M2.
No waste of time talks, just straight to the points.
The Dave2D style, I love it.
Theoretical GPU performance in the M3 Max blew mind, I mean, it was compared to one of the best dedicated GPUs ever, and is just slightly behind. That blew my mind, integrated graphics almost head to head with RTX 4080 performance, that I've never heard of until today, not to mention, Mac is well optimized to use that power so I can confidently say that it might fair better than the RTX 4080 in real world tasks
^ This
and with great battery life on top of that.
4080 laptop, equivalent to about 4070 desktop. Still very impressive.
first
Dope to hear the coating is actually less finger printy
one of the best and funniest tech creators out there. cheers Dave from a fellow Canadian.
Dave, you just invented the nose/smudge test! Nicely done!
I recently bought an Asus Zenbook Duo which is a dual screen laptop. I had no idea how much I'd use the second screen but I use it nearly each time I'm on the computer. So many cool features. Very fast and does everything I need. I just which Apple would come out with something - anything that is super creative and innovative and makes us go "wow"!
Thank you DAVE!
Typical Dave2D style review, straight to the point, doesn’t waste viewer time.
Got to appreciate the dedication to the craft with a nose test
Love the hair style man! 😮
Nice, short and to the point - usual Dave2D quality. The nose test should be the standard.
Dave rocking the new look
No dorky music and bio tests his hardware. Subscribed!
The video felt like it ended before it started. On a side note, I find it so real and true when you say about picking laptops based on colour 😂
Overall i think the conversation this yr for m3 chips is that m3 pro chip is similar to the sentiments of the entire m2 gen. A stop gap generation that ideally wouldnt be pushed out, but for time, development and cost sake had to exist.
If the 3nm yields were better or the process just more refined and tuned, we likely wouldve gotten the usual 8-4 config of performance and efficiency cores or maybe even a 10-4 config.
You did a test comparison doing Logic Pro and Serum / Omnipshere - Great Stuff! I'm most interested so see how the 12 core M3 Pro compares to the 12 core M2 Pro or Max on this. Ir's really surprising how close the M3 Base is compared to the M2 Max actually. Thanks!
Beautiful color -- I will go for it if I can be convinced that it won't wear off over time, which the silver-colored model won't do. I was all for Space Gray with previous MacBooks until I noticed white spots appearing on mine, which are supposedly caused by oxidation. I normally take care of my things, so it likely wasn't due to abuse, but maybe I could have cleaned it more often and that would have prevented or reduced the spots. IDK.
Nice Hair Dave, Great Review as Always!
love your videos bro
I would love some emphasis in comparing the M1 Pro with the base M3, as it seems out what I've been gathering from other videos, that they are quite similar in performance (crazy!).
I use my M1 Pro 14" for work, and still find it more than capable enough to edit videos and photos for social media on the Adobe Cloud.
Knowing that others could get the same performance and usability from the now base 14" Pro with the base M3 chip as you used to get from the M1 Pro, could be huge for many buyers.
My unbinned M1 Pro with 16gb Ram and 1Tb SSD is still a more than capable machine, but it was a 2700€ investment here in the Netherlands, much more than the new base M3 chip 14" Macbok Pro
loving the hair Dave
Cinebench 2024.1 GPU test already supports RT cores. Maxon announced it shortly after the M3 Max release.
Great review, as usual! I don't know, but to me it seems that the metal rt setting for the macbook was not turned on in the blender render. I know that this is among the few tests where the m3 max is faster than even the m2 ultra.
Waiting for that future video!
Great animations, keep it up!
Dave, the only guy I trust for a true analysis about a product 👍👍❤️👃🤩
Hey Dave, I'm still waiting to see if you're planning to upload a M3 Mac Book Pro Review (lineup). As always great videos loved to hear your thoughts on what Apple tried to do there. Cheers.
Petition to check every finish with ‘dave’s oily nose’ test. Hats off to the Dedication, my guy😂❤💯
Dave has the nose test Floss has the headshake test. Revolutionary minds in our times.
I love this new nose test! I want it to be incorporated into every review, please! 😂
Forget the bend test, it’s all about the nose smudge resistance.
I think you need to get rid of the screen you have on the right (I assume you have a different angle there) but it gets a bit weird to see you look there so often (maybe some kind of teleprompter like technology if you really need to look at that?).
Keep up the good work though, your content is really great
2:26 That backtrack to "unless its white and teal" made me laugh so hard 😂😂
Hi Dave. I love your tech videos, but I am also an aquascaper and I've noticed your scape on the other end of your room. Do you consider making a video about your tank? Your Rotala has a crazy good reds, I would imagine the nitrates are at 0? What is your fertiliser routine?
Eagerly waiting for the M3 Ultra.
This channel continues getting better, nose test should be the norm!
I kinda agree with Dave's colour theory about smudges, i have asus tuf f15 with a matte gray aluminium top and it's good at not showing smudges.
Always have to watch MKBHD and Dave2D videos first to come up with your decision if you'll purchase a new device or not
My man’s letting that propecia go wild!
That nose smudge test is a new benchmark. Officially.
Waiting a long time for this review, and the first thing I see is Dave rubbing his nose all over it.
Props to you for testing omnisphere and serum
It felt like he was only focused on the "nose-test" , rather than the other improvements.
Anyways, I don't think will upgrade from M2. Nothing is more beautiful than the midnight blue color. (even if it failed the nose test) 😅
Would love to see those graphs stay on screen longer
Nailed the Thumbnail 🤩
We need the nose rub test to be standardized fingerprint resistance test
The nose benchmark is top tier, best reviewer on UA-cam by far.
