My hypothesis is that the performance is pretty much the sane as M2 pro, but much better efficiency. And if it has performance improvements, it would come from that.

The most interesting one to cover is the entry level M3 Pro (11 core), due to being first "reasonable" buy in the lineup, e.g. entry level 14" M2 Pro equivalent, rather than the full decked 12 core model. At least from a consumer (not youtuber) perspective, where you want some of that graphics performance for occasional game, better cooling, faster memory, two screen support. In EU that upgrade to 12 core is $270, on top of already painful $2700 for 11 core version so it's hard to justify.

Overall i think the conversation this yr for m3 chips is that m3 pro chip is similar to the sentiments of the entire m2 gen. A stop gap generation that ideally wouldnt be pushed out, but for time, development and cost sake had to exist.
If the 3nm yields were better or the process just more refined and tuned, we likely wouldve gotten the usual 8-4 config of performance and efficiency cores or maybe even a 10-4 config.

Beautiful color -- I will go for it if I can be convinced that it won't wear off over time, which the silver-colored model won't do. I was all for Space Gray with previous MacBooks until I noticed white spots appearing on mine, which are supposedly caused by oxidation. I normally take care of my things, so it likely wasn't due to abuse, but maybe I could have cleaned it more often and that would have prevented or reduced the spots. IDK.

I would love some emphasis in comparing the M1 Pro with the base M3, as it seems out what I've been gathering from other videos, that they are quite similar in performance (crazy!).
I use my M1 Pro 14" for work, and still find it more than capable enough to edit videos and photos for social media on the Adobe Cloud.
Knowing that others could get the same performance and usability from the now base 14" Pro with the base M3 chip as you used to get from the M1 Pro, could be huge for many buyers.
My unbinned M1 Pro with 16gb Ram and 1Tb SSD is still a more than capable machine, but it was a 2700€ investment here in the Netherlands, much more than the new base M3 chip 14" Macbok Pro

Great review, as usual! I don't know, but to me it seems that the metal rt setting for the macbook was not turned on in the blender render. I know that this is among the few tests where the m3 max is faster than even the m2 ultra.

Hey Dave, I'm still waiting to see if you're planning to upload a M3 Mac Book Pro Review (lineup). As always great videos loved to hear your thoughts on what Apple tried to do there. Cheers.

Forget the bend test, it’s all about the nose smudge resistance.

I think you need to get rid of the screen you have on the right (I assume you have a different angle there) but it gets a bit weird to see you look there so often (maybe some kind of teleprompter like technology if you really need to look at that?).
Keep up the good work though, your content is really great

Hi Dave. I love your tech videos, but I am also an aquascaper and I've noticed your scape on the other end of your room. Do you consider making a video about your tank? Your Rotala has a crazy good reds, I would imagine the nitrates are at 0? What is your fertiliser routine?

I kinda agree with Dave's colour theory about smudges, i have asus tuf f15 with a matte gray aluminium top and it's good at not showing smudges.

It felt like he was only focused on the "nose-test" , rather than the other improvements.
Anyways, I don't think will upgrade from M2. Nothing is more beautiful than the midnight blue color. (even if it failed the nose test) 😅
