Ch4os4ever that's what Theseus is best known for but he did a lot more. He and Peirithous (the guy you burn in the underworld in GoW3) often went on many adventures together. They were like two jock bros who couldn't stop partying.

It actually has an explanation, as Theseus was depicted an old man, and spartans thought that old men were honorable due to them living through enough battles to age up to that point. Thus Kratos offered him to live, and then accepted his duel when requested.

I like how kratos after spearing him against the door was like ‘ok, you’re beaten, that was a good fight, I appreciate you had to do your job and all that’. And I really believe he would’ve left him alone because he respected the warrior. But nope, Theseus had to grab that ankle, and made kratos introduce him to the door personally.

Kratos is good at improvising while in battle. In another God of War game, he kicked a man through two huge doors. I think that it was God of War Ascension. It seems that in every game, he tosses an enemy into another enemy.

The bosses having no health bar made these games so much more intense
Now compare that to God of War 1; the boss fights (although few) WITH healthbars, are still pretty intense. Especially the fight against Ares.

The biggest reason to underestimate Kratos is because he lost his role as god of war. The reputation of the "fallen god" already has the impression of weakness, for such a powerful person to have suddenly lost this divine power. Not only are few of them aware of the things he actually does, they've only heard the Spartan's most famous stories.

My god, I hate ever other character in this game so much, straight from the first appear of their character models to how they are presented, they are just SO impressively hateable that Kratos actually seems justified in mutilating them to death.

I suppose we're meant to hate them. Most of the characters in Greek mythology were, for lack of better words, massive dickheads. Even the so called "heroes" like Theseus here. After he killed the Minotaur, Ariadne - King Minos' daughter, I believe - helped him escape from the Labyrinth with a thread of silk.
And how did he repay her act of kindness? By leaving her stranded on Crete (the island where the Minotaur was from). Not only that, but he led his father to believe he was dead, so in his grief, his father killed himself.
He did get some kind of comeuppance in a sick way, though. He thought he got his happily ever after, by settling down and having a few sons (I think), but it turned out his wife was batshit bonkers and she eventually murdered their kids and tried to kill Theseus too, but he killed her in self defense (IIRC)

To be fair, kratos is just trying to get through most of the time. In this game specifically he kills almost exclusively in self defense

I remember this fight vividly the first time I played this game. The power I felt from bashing his head with the door was insane.

Stairway down to that fat bitches Liar was far more difficult. The constant enemies dealing with those big armor guys, Medusa’s and sirens, and then cyclops. Yeah everything else wasn’t to bad but that part holy fuck.

I never understand how Kratos is so small compared to people like Theseus and Hercules but in GOW 2018 he's a giant
hes not really a giant in GOW 4... his character model is supposedly Christopher Judges height while his body is from a deceased body builder or fitness instructor... but canonicaly Kratos is 8'6 based on his comic book description from the greek era as well as a character art video within the original GOW games.... later in 2017 - 2019 Santa Monica hosted a tech show for GOW 2018 and labelled Kratos' canonical height as 7'6 but they obviously made a mistake because originally Kratos was labelled as 8'6
Kratos isn’t giant in the norse games either. He’s only bigger than Baldur and Heimdall and the dwarves. Everyone else is his height and Thor and Tyr and Magni tower over him

I personally think that smashing Theseus head with the door is way more satisfying than smashing Hercules head with the Nemean Cestus, i mean with Theseus since the firts hit you're allready on a frenzy of smashing circle, with Hercules is the same but at the beggining of the QTE is pretty slow

Theseus, Hercules, and Helios got it the worst from Kratos. Snapping Baldurs neck was like a mercy killing.

Mimir: alright.... ok, so the main Greek pantheon was made up of several Olympian gods, the 3 most notable ones being Zeus, the God of thunder and king of Olympus, Poseidon god king of the ocean and Hades the God of the underworld which carries his namesake. So, Poseidon has a son with a young woman. This son is named Theseus, he goes to become one of the many great Greek demigod heroes in all of Greece, he's famous for entertaining a labyrinth and killing a minotaur.
Atreus: What's a minotaur?
Mimir: A foul beast, as big as an ogre but has the body of a man and the head of a bull. It also wielded a massive hammer or and axe, or nothing. Details are fuzzy on that. So Theseus wrestles the beast by the horns and manages to kill it after an epic fight, so once out of the labyrinth later in his travels he meets the Amazon queen Hippolyta, daughter of Ares. They have a child named Hippolytus who oddly enough becomes one of the few males who become hunters for the hunting goddess Artemis, now he fits in rather well since like Artemis and Athena he has no interest in romance, this infuriates Aphrodite who charms his stepmother to demand the lad for some....family time....

Mimir: get used to it, Greek history is rather ripe with incest, now were was I. Oh yes, his stepmother takes her life and has a note on her body claiming hippolytus killed her. Theseus asks his father to kill his son and so he does.

Mimir: kind of a way to restore honor, kill the man who defiled your wife, so Theseus gets rather lonely and asks the goddess aphrodite for the hand of the most beautiful woman in Greece, so she takes Helen of Troy from her husband the spartan king Menelaus and this promptly starts the trojan war, after the war he goes to the underworld and tries to take persephone, goddess of spring and wife to hades. This obviously goes badly, but rather than being punished for his insolence Zeus has him watch over the steeds in the isle where the sisters of fate reside.
Atreus: Oh, then what happened?
Kratos: I killed him.
Mimir: why am not surprised...
Atreus: Uh, why?
Kratos: I was searching for the sisters of fate, my father had tricked me and taken my powers. I sought vengeance.
Atreus: Oh, was he tough?
Kratos: he was a skilled opponent, but I ultimately bested him.
Atreus: sounds about right.
All true but to be fair, Theseus also gave sanctuary to Oedipus and Antigone, so he wasn't all bad.

It's funny when you consider that the bosses in the first game (the Hydra, the giant Minotaur and Ares) all had health bars.
Guess the developers felt it would feel more immersive if they didn't show the boss' health bar. Gotta say, they hit the jackpot! 👍

Picking a fight with Kratos was probably the second stupidest thing Theseus has ever done.
Let the record be stated: kratos asked Theseus to stand aside and he would let him live. Kratos didn't have a beef with Theseus but once again someone chose to stand in his way and pass on his "generosity", meaning he wouldn't kill them if they didn't choose to pick a fight with him.
There seems to be a recurring theme here of Kratos wanting to do something and then somebody gets in the way and talks sh!t lol

This fight is even better because it’s not just a son of Poseidon vs a son of Zeus, but also an Athenian vs a Spartan.
