Thanks for explaining this. I was trying to use the POI like the Spotlight but every time I touched the right joy stick for horizontal movement it would drop out, plus I wasn't aware that you could change the orbital speed and also use the vertical joystick, now that's a game changer for quality video.

Thanks, Billy. Good stuff. I haven't tried Active Track yet because I live in an area with lots of elevation changes. My assumption is, with obstacle avoidance set to Bypass, the Mini 3 Pro should change elevation and continue to track when the subject is going up in elevation, but likely not changing elevation when the subject is descending. My drone is too new for me to test that out just yet. 😂

Phantom 3 had a follow me mode that was GPS based. The drone followed your remote GPS coordinates obtained from the mobile device attached to the remote.
M1 I believe had both GPS based Follow Me and optical based Active Track.

You should add an annotation about the error you made when talking about parralel active track; You say obstical avoidance is turned off in trace mode, when you probably meant parralel since that's what you were talking about and obviously trace mode does have obstical avoidance.

Looks like the Mini 3 pro parallel is really parallel as Mavic 2.The parallel of AIR 2S always ends up following instead of parallel. Superb review, Billy👍

Great stuff. So now I have to sell the original mini and buy this mini 3. Plus the RC being compatible with other DJI drones sees like a reasonable investment. I have used the smart modes in the Mavic Pro 2. They work but this looks like it is better.

Helps if you can do a walkthrough on how to use the flight modes. I just drew a line on a subject to track and got a message that tracking is not possible with my current flight mode. So there are limitations...
I got in love with Skydio's keyframe feature, but had to sell it coz of family health emergency, so I'm hoping for a mini 3 in my future and already emailed dji that I hope they add this feature. With all of its feature it seems no reason they can't program this in.

Is there a way to do active tracking such that drone is upright on top and gimbal tilted down?
When I set it upright it still goes back and tracks in tilted angle.
Thanks for the info, it is really good, got a question though, (I am new to drones) soon I will be in the Peruvian Andean mountains at almost 4000 mts agl riding in a horse, these places are very isolated and might not have a GPS or satellites available (I will only know when I get there) can I still use that function?, also since I will be riding a horse in inclined terrain I want to be able to take off and land in my hand...for which I have to disable the protection sensors...is that possible?, THANKS

What automatic flight modes will maintain height automatically? My lake (and the interesting birds on it) is surrounded by very tall trees. Also, if I point to a floating goose as the POI, how can I tell the GPS of the bird? M3P.
Does anyone know of a method to improve the Active Track/Trace/Follow Me mode? When on a Motorcycle I can't ride at more than maybe 15 miles an hour before the Drone loses me. Is there a color, shape, contrast that it has an easier time following?
The whole time I tried to do activetrack and it keep saying I can't turn it on with the current recording format. I had to google it a bit and found out it won't work anything higher on 4k 30fps.

Yeah, thx a lot for that ! Regarding the POI option, can it also be operated with obstacle avoidance? In your sample I noticed that the obstacle avoidance sensor was off (red) .
seems to me that any flight characteristics that involve the drone flying sideways technically cant use obstacle avoidance as it has no side sensors, which is a bummer. I wouldve paid an extra hundred or so for it

At 2:36 you say that obstacle avoidance is off when using trace but did you mean when using Parallel?
What’s the top speed of follow me Mode? Looking for 25mph too speed for ATV riding.
So it doesn't have home or course lock like the older dji drones?

In POI mode, will it track a moving target?
Weird. I actually tried spotlight and it never moved as the speedboat was moving away. It just moved its camera to track where the speedboat is at but once it started moving away, nothing happened. It just kept stationary, did not follow it.
When I use my finger to draw a box around the subject. It keeps switching to focus mode. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong?
Do you need to be on 4k 30fps for this to work I can't do it 4k.69fps
@2:34 you say that the Trace ActiveTrack does not have obstacle avoidance. You mean parallel correct?
I cannot turn on subject scan. So I don't have active track. How to fix that
I haven’t had much success with the Orbit feature. I tried a tight circle of my car and it doesn’t circle around it, instead, gives audible warnings that an object is too close and cancels the shot’s flight. Since the car was the only “object” within 30 yards in any direction, it must be referring to the car itself as the object in the way. It’s like it’s assessing the box I drew on the car encompassed only a 2 dimensional object with no depth to include in the flight path.
I’m guessing I’ll need to select Spotlight mode and manually fly around it.

I feel like a dum ass but: Do you need to activate something in the settings before you can make that green square selection. Or how do you make that selection.
So am I correct that Spotlight won’t follow a subject? Meaning the drone won’t fly itself and only the camera follows?

Great video. I'm a newbie as six years ago I lost 2 drones and said I would never have another. BUT...this mini pro 3 is amazing...
My question is, I haven't used master shots yet because I don't know how much airspace I actually need to execute it. I recently flew around a wide river, but was reluctant to try master shots because of trees on both sides. Any thoughts?
You need a lot of space for master shot in my experience. I've only used that function once and you have to keep your eye on the drone and hands close to controls as I'm not quite sure what it's going to do next.
