I have been playing cello for 8 years now and play it pretty fluently, and can make a guitar sound decent, but the transitions for all the chords and trying to control all of my fingers at once on mutiple strings rather than just playing one string at a time with the occasional chord on a cello very quickly makes me realize that the guitar isn't easy. Much respect for the instrument, keep up the wonderful teaching.
+Its Cherry Thanks, glad you are enjoying my teaching. My students with experience on the violin and cello always have a fantastic advantage, but it still requires patience. Fortunately your musical experience provides you with the work ethic necessary for mastering the guitar, you'll just need to accept that it's a different animal, with a very different role. I personally benefited from learning easy acoustic tunes, none served me better than those found on Nirvana's unplugged album. I'd suggest tackling anything with power chords before jumping into full barred shapes. Enjoy your practice. -Rob
Such an awesome lesson! It’s a a difficult song and you teach so well and entertainingly. You are such an excellent teacher and musician and I feel privileged to watch you. Many thanks.
Great lesson. I like how you play the song first and then break it down. That way you can see ahead of time what you are doing. Thanks for posting this one.
+Bungalow Bill Thank you, I have some funny pronunciations and living in Philly has definitely warped my vernacular. So glad my teaching style is agreeing with you. Many more to come both here and at patreon.com/swiftlessons. Free ebooks, backing tracks and gear reviews are also on the way!
Not the easiest song to play on the guitar, with the syncopation on the original piano, but you managed to do it with great dexterity here. Very clever.
+Kyle Johnson Hey thanks, glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Playing the guitar never gets old for me, and it's giving me so much in this life. I don't think my obsession will ever fade.
+Shiny Pants Thanks a lot, still a work in progress for myself in terms of singing during the more complexed movements, but it's getting better every day. I hope you enjoy playing this one as much as I do. Thanks for stopping in!
+Elmo-Delmo Hey thanks so much. I'm back to performing shows in Philadelphia and am preparing to record a new album. All that work is giving my voice a hell of a work out, and I'm feeling better each day. 2016 is going to be a great year, I just put an offer in on my new studio, and hope to go full time content creator in the next few months. Thanks for your encouragement thus far, it means a lot. -Rob
+swiftlessons I think each Lennon / McCartney / Harrison composition has its own special magic ;) I love "Here Comes the Sun" but there are countless jewels you could do as well ;) I can also recommend you Julian Lennons "Everything changes" album and not to Forget Pauls "New". But my all time favourites will stay Johns "Double Fantasie", "Walls and Bridges", "Mind Games" and "Plastic Ono Band". Happy new year! ;)
Very good job Mr. I remember when that song came out. That is, besides Tom Emanuel one of the better versions of that song with no piano. Great version for a busker or street performer. 👍👍
+Mary M Thanks so much for checking this video out, so happy you enjoyed it. Please keep up-to-date with my coming projects at facebook.com/phillyguitarlessons. Thanks!
+Hippy Buddah Thanks! This is my hobby, and I really enjoy making the lessons and hearing from you all. I'm just really appreciative that anyone cares to watch the lessons and comment. Expect a bunch more in the coming days. -Rob
Hi! Great lesson, thank you! I'm having some problem in the intro, in particular i can't figure out the timing of the first bar (the one with low A+strum +2-2-1-0 on B +D7). It is everything in one bar right? No offbeats? I really can't follow your timing in the initial demonstration. Are there any tabs with timing instructions? (a "standard" musical sheet would be perfect) Salute you!
I had the same issue but after replaying it dozen times I noticed that although he tells you to pick the b string twice, he only hits it once where he plays it through slowly, Then it worked out right for me, but I shared your frustration to the point of almost quitting. 👍😉
In the book from the Guitar Center "Electric Guitar Book 1, on page 14, it's Lady Madonna, Crazy Train, Aqualung, Green-eyed Lady, 25 or 6 to 4, and Brain Stew. It's a really easy book to learn from,,,
Hey Rob, great lesson as usual. Do you think you could do a lesson about unwanted string noise during soloing and how to stop it? Keep on making good stuff!
Love your page my friend. I compliment and respect this VERY professional and talented conduct as a player and instructor. well done. Comments on Lady M if I may. The Bm , it is a Bm7. And also - when stepping from the D7 to the single E resolving to the F..G..A : the dissonant D7, ouch, may I suggest Am7.
Fantastic tutorial and cover, thank you Rob! I love this song and have been wanting to play it for a while. I'm having some difficulty getting the timing right for the 2 - 2 - 1 - 0 part of the melody @4:13. Specifically, I can't seem to get the down-up pick on the B string to flow smoothly from the strum the way you do in the demo. I keep having to slow down at the down-up to make sure I'm not hitting the G or high E or missing the B entirely. Would you have any advice on improving timing here?
Hi! I have a similar problem, I can't figure out the right timing - not because of picking problems, I can't fit all the first part in a single bar in a smooth way. Did you solve your problem?
+Francisco Costa Thanks haha, glad you're digging the vids that much. The likes do help with search results, but your comments are my biggest asset. Thanks for taking the time. -Rob
+Its Cherry Thanks so much for watching and being the first to comment. Let me know if you spot any issues, or have any questions. Be well and enjoy your practice! -Rob
