You are absolutely right. Playing blues on the guitar, the simple good old blues principles always work: 12 bar Blues, call and response and turnaround.
You had what is called a breakthrough, my friend. Being self taught, largely before UA-cam existed, I can tell you that you can give Tony the credit, but you’re the one who figured it out. I often marvel at how something I have seen or heard or tried to learn so many times in the past will suddenly click, and my playing goes to another level. I’m just glad people like Tony can make a living, providing something so helpful to so many people, for free.

I am a hillbilly for the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Maybe it's because of my hard to follow accent, but I understand every word this man is saying. The Scottish accent isn't far off from the backwoods hillbilly drawl. 😂
I taught myself to play starting at age 5. I was 18 when getting on UA-cam and learnt a song became popular. So I can freestyle for hours but I can only remember one or two songs at a time when I learn them.
When I was a beginner, I always appreciated it when a guitar teacher on UA-cam would bypass music theory and just show me how to play what I wanna learn. And now that I know a little bit about music theory, I appreciate bypassing, music theory even more. This was a good lesson, with skills that can be used no matter what you play.

Get a Martin hpl or a cheap carbon fiber guitar also subs in for a cannon paddle or cutting board.
