If social contagion has happened with tourette syndrome on tik tok, (where a lot of young girls through they had it, were tested and if fact didn't have tourette's), why can't this also be the case with adhd and asd?

@@Matty272 wel if you have a lump in your body and all symptoms according to the internet align with cancer then i guess you dont have to go to the doctor anymore as its not free. If you really want help than you can get it im not American but i do have both adhd and autism and the whole nd and nt movement is horrible and because everyone on tiktok is self diagnosing and making videos where they make fun of nt people the stigma only gets bigger.

That's awesome. I doubt any reasonable person would have a problem with you suspecting you might have an issue and then going to a professional for testing and/or confirmation after watching a tiktok.. It's when people that are not medical professionals diagnose themselves (or possibly others) based exclusively off of tiktok videos.

This is horribly misleading. There is no "test" for ADHD, or autism. They are subjective diagnoses that are often made without an appropriate developmental history or context for which impairment and functioning is taken into consideration. Anybody can go into a therapist's office and recite a checklist of symptoms for either and receive a diagnosis. There is an ideological movement on social media of individuals who diagnose themselves, and believe that only somebody else with the same diagnosis is qualified to diagnose them. This ideological movement is based in social justice culture and is anti-science. It is comprised primarily of younger Caucasian women, from the US, UK and to a lesser extent Australia - the three countries where critical social justice culture are most prominent.

Very true. I'm in the UK, I was diagnosed with ADHD-C last year after a lifetime of struggle and wondering what was wrong with me, age 35. In the year+ since, around half my friends (AFAB) think they have it too, and none bar one of them are seeking professional diagnosis. One of them is very young (21) and has described "stimming" that is straight off a TikTok video. I've never used TikTok and never will, I hate it for what it's doing to kids.

    • @nataliep4349
      @nataliep4349 Рік тому +3

@@Madeinargentina92imes people really start to over-identify with those symptoms though or believe they have it so strongly that they would probably sound very convincing. They may take a normal presentation of behaviors (like _occasional_ forgetfulness) and magnify it. This can make diagnosis very difficult, and it’s partly why most assessments include questions specifically designed to try and capture deceptive responses. Those questions don’t really help to correct for misrepresented degree/frequency of symptoms though.
What’s unfortunate is that many people getting tested for ADHD receive relatively brief evaluations (sometimes just 20 mins with a psychiatrist).

Maybe you should be diagnosed, since you have missed the key in this video ...... Most general practitioners (your regular doctor) unless they themselves have these conditions DON'T recognize the symptoms in their patients! And then those patients HAVE to self diagnose to figure it out for themselves because they cant give themselves a referral to a psychologist... their GP has to do that. This condition affects EVERY part of a persons life. Work, school, relationships, day to day functioning..... Do you think they should just suffer with ignorant doctors misdiagnosing & mislabeling them for years, decades even ?!?!

I think a lot of these people would be ok if they put their phones down for a week and got out of the house more. People with real adhd tend to have chronic drug use disorders and are very hard to be around. Constantly interrupting people, lack self awareness and can’t hold a job. If you sit in watching short tik tok videos all day and not leaving the house then you are going to get some of the symptoms regardless of whether you have it or not.

Womp is unapologetically correct, most doctors won’t even discuss autism or ADHD because every teenage girl thinks they’re a doctor. You cannot "self diagnose" yourself with a complex neurological disorder, and frankly if you WANT to cling onto the hope after you clearly cannot get a doctors note, there is something much more wrong with your head. Maybe it’s all those fatherless children raised by their moms??

If you have a child thats easily distracted, teach them to finish what they start. With the right training people who are born woth what today is called ADHD can do is multiplied by how they are trained to use their memory.
So train kids to play memory enhancing games. Get them to finish the tasks they are set. Read books and what they start, they must finish. Learn more than one language and other physical skills and sports, all help to make the brain more efficient.

As a clinically Undiagnosed person, I say this:
      Born in 1990 I was.
Job to job to job again...
      "Burnout cycle"
Living in adrenaline for years, fawn, freeze,flight,fight...
Being anxious and depressed because everything seems easier for the majority of people around me, school-age to adolescent to now, asking for help, getting help that didn't help because I struggle "translating my brain to others" ..
Looking for ways to self help from living in my car I had faith.... spirituality and quantum study.
Asking who am I? Why am I here?
Sorting through contradictory information on Google about anything you can think of, scholarly or not.
What I have discovered is that with enough hours of dedication, "certification" is only a word of prestige.
I follow what resonates, ive learned what I need to understand myself, and I don't need to justify it to anyone.
Acceptance is acceptance, ignorance is ignorance. Expectations I'm not here to fill your of me, that is my free will.
