As someone who doesn’t have thousands to dump into a top of the line setup, this was the most useful video I’ve seen for technique. I’m working on getting a boat put together and this showed me a good way to go about business without turning my pockets out. Thanks Caleb, love the videos. Keep it up
That's the video I've been waiting for you to produce Caleb. Your patience and your detail is excellent and I'm sure a lot of us will learn from this experience. It was greatly appreciated from all your 903 fans I'm sure.
Man I struggle to set up in brush to catch crappie, which leads to my failure. But this technique definitely shines a new light on the matter. Thanks. Love your content!!!!
Thanks for the info brother. I have been wondering exactly when to throw out marker. When it shows up on graph. And I love the fact that you keep crappie. And either give them away. Or keep them yourself. 90 percent of you tube guys. Never keep fish.
Thanks for sharing, great video. Would you please make a video about how to return to a marked brush pile. Please show us right from where you turn on your Helix 7. This would really be appreciated, thanks 👍
Yes sir. Are you asking how to mark? Or how to return to the mark? After you mark, just go back over the weighpoint. But I can definitely see what I can do about a video! I did receive your email as well. Thanks for watching! God bless
I would like to know how to return to the mark. I would like to see this right from when you turn the fish finder on, step by step. Thank You and Regards
Lots of very good information as always. I call this the “learning Channel”.. It’s Ol school crappie fishing!!! I subscribe to a LOT of crappie fishing channels, but 903 is by far the best channel for learning all things crappie fishing, hands down.
Hard to pick a favorite 903 video, they're all so good, but this would have to be one of my favorites. Finding brush piles and setting up on them properly has been so helpful. #50k
Awesome vedio thinks for sharing I'm going to have to get me a better debth finder I only have down scan and it's not very good at showing graphics on the bottom
Learned a lot from you Dude! Thank You!! - Clear instructions about Positioning around the brush pile..finding not only the depth crappie are hanging, but the angle of presentation..information worth it's weight in crappie..That I don't need a 2 - $3k trolling motor when 2 anchors and 2 inexpensive buoys will hold my position...incidentally, those buoys on the big A run $19 and up!!! Keep the videos rolling! God Bless right back at you!
Awesome video, Caleb! Thanks for sharing. I started using those type bouy markers for the first time last year and it has really helped. The key, as you demonstrated, is to go back over them with down imaging to know where the exact top of the pile is. Could be 5-10 ft from the marker....but as long as you know, the marker serves as the reference. Great job explaining that. Love seeing the sonar images with all those fish stacked on them. Kind of gives a fisherman goosebumps seeing it!
First, Thanks for the nice videos. I live in central florida and new to crappie fishing;. I have a Lowrance HDS7 and have done some structure mapping of the lake bottom and the structure i.e. rock piles. I have also converted the scan files to a readable file by my Lowrance unit and copied those files to a SD card which goes into the second slot of my Lowrance unit. When I travel over any area that I have mapped and have my Lowrance unit properly setup it will display the structure on the bottom like a live TV camera. I also have a 12 volt power supply in my home office and I plug the Lowrance head unit into it and go to that particular lake and it's mapped areas. Then I can easily analyize the mapped areas and place appropriate waypoints as needed. Now hopefully using your method described in this video using the slip stop bobber I hope to catch a few crappie. I also have a minn kotta trolling motor with spot lock on it which should help. Question: When you make your final pass to determine the actual (height off of the bottom) of the brush or rockpile do you find that the trolling motor noise spooks the fish off of the structure?????? Here is a URL link to some screen shots. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1NL_rI-YslP-Qf8zn7R67SHq_bwqC-g9w?usp=sharing
No typically I am fishing anywhere from 10-25 feet and I haven’t noticed that going back over it with the trolling motor is a issue. Thanks for watching and your input brother! God bless
Good video, very informative! Question for you: when you are using plastics and not minnows, do you rig your slip cork the same way or do you exclude the barrel swivel when using a jig/plastic?
Awesome Video. That's what I wanted to see when exactly you throw that buoy marker. I'm fishing from a kayak. Right now I've been fishing standing timber at Ray Roberts and Richland Chambers. I want to look for brush pile but just don't know exactly where to put in and not paddle so far out. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for a great video! I am a new subscriber, use Helix7 in a kayak. Do you have any videos on how you have the settings for your locator? Thanks again!
Looking for setting the different parameters, sensitivity, contrast, DI and sonar. Seems like everyone sets up different that I have watched. I also use a Striker 4 , it has a lot less options on settings. Mainly looking at the helix 7. Thanks again, and God’s blessing to you as well!
I am using 10# braid as my main line to a 12# mono leader. Maybe your braid is too thick in diameter. They slip well for me on braid, they don’t slip well for me on mono.
Crappie look like dots on Down view with Garmin, Lowrance and Hummingbird because of the type of sonar beam and frequency. You can also use the 360 not live scope modes to get direction but the markers help with that quite a bit.
Dead minnows would not work as good as live minnows for sure. But they could definitely work, especially if you are popping them along and on top of the brush pile. Thanks for watching! God bless
Thank you 903! Could you spend a little more time teaching how to identify what the fish look like on your down scan or on your 2D please. Some of us need help developing an eye for what we are seeing in down scan etc.Keep up the great content you work hard at it and you do a great job!
After you locate a brush pile, wouldn't it be easier to find other brush piles in the vicinity by using your sidescan instead of driving around looking with your 2D? I have found sidescan to be minimally effective for spotting fish but it works great for locating cribs and brush piles.
If they giving you flack for keeping fish they either ain’t catching keepers or not catching any and are jealous. And they will really hate me . Lol only reason I throw crappie back is cause it’s to short I keep every keeper I catch till my limit is full every time I go crappie fishing . I catch them for food not to catch em and let ‘em go lol 😂.
So who gets upset for taking some fish for the table? That's what fish are for. Do they buy fish? Likely do. It has been proven time and again that for panfish, and even bass, they reproduce faster than they are taken. Now, when I fish for native trout, it is barbless hook fly fishing catch and release. Why? they are taken faster than they can reproduce. Conservation is dependent on the setting.

Down wind is easier to set up. than setting up up wind and possibly get pushed over your fishing spot

Are you using a leader material while running a slip bobber ? For me , slip bobbers don’t work well with braid . Thanks man and good luck
I am using 10# braid as my main line to a 12# mono leader. Maybe your braid is too thick in diameter. They slip well for me on braid, they don’t slip well for me on mono.
That’s 2D sonar not down scan I’m being picky lol 😂 great video

Just got a New pedal drive fishing Kayak. Any recommendations on a new 2-d sonar?
Garmin striker 4 does the job.
I'd like to see a more in depth usage of the DI imaging screen instead of the 2d screen . Show what crappie look like using Down Imaging . Thanks
I just released a video on that. Check it out. Thanks for watching! God bless
Crappie look like dots on Down view with Garmin, Lowrance and Hummingbird because of the type of sonar beam and frequency. You can also use the 360 not live scope modes to get direction but the markers help with that quite a bit.
8 Oz weight works really well.
When using the buoys do they not float off away from where they were placed?
