I'm just getting into fishing and I got a helix 5 gps and chirp off marketplace. I am/was floored at how hard it is to find information on how to use this equipment. It seems to be a culture of "you learn from your fishing buddy/dad". I really appreciate this video.
I ran a Helix 7 for the last 5 years. It only had Autocharts and 2d sonar. It was nice to be able to map out all the small lakes here in my area. I upgraded to a Garmin 95SV and man oh man what an upgrade to get sidevu and clearvu! I have never caught so many fish as i have this summer. It has been awesome taking my son out. And keep an eye out for a good deal. I picked my Helix 7 up and it was 64% off at Canadian Tire. Thanks for the video!
Jay I love your videos the arial scenes are awesome! Don’t you ever stop what your doing most of my equipment is based off of your reviews! Love it buddy!
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I love this type of technical sonar content! Thanks for sharing ! please make more in depth sonar calibration content as well. Especially with entry level sonars like the Helix7. Cheers!
Followed the same method this weekend and got my kids onto a bunch of walleyes. Map recording -> drive around -> drop waypoints on decent marks -> Anchor over a cluster of waypoints -> jig & minnow till the minnows are all gone! Barely had time to watch my slip bobber I was so busy re-baiting hooks.
Great Video Jay! Super informative, just what I needed to watch in preparation for the new Helix™ 7 CHIRP MEGA SI I ordered and should be getting this week. Excited to use some of what I learned from this video. I am sure you will have saved me a lot of time playing with my new Helix 7. Thanks Jay!
Thanks for the video and the tips/info! From your previous video's I grabbed a cheap Garmin Striker which was awesome to use on hard water. Installed a transducer on my kayak and have been playing with it on open water.
great video i have the helix 5 chirp, settings very similar, i have navionic but my mapping is spotty, that SD card is is obviously what i need, i haven't used auto chart yet still learning.
I love fishing for walleye but I live in southern mn and don’t have a boat. Could you do a video on catching walleyes from shore? Keep up the great vids!
Thanks for doing this, was on the fence about buying the zero lines sd card. My main lakes are not charted and autochart maxes out at about 7 hrs on the internal storage for me.
Awesome video! Hey question will that card work for salt water Im fishing predominantly bays/ inlet/ bridges and maybe some Ocean if nice. Im new to fish finders and this video is very useful
Awesome video, I just picked up a helix 7 for my old town 132 I fish in salt water. Question do you think its a good idea to get that chip you recommend even though im in bays/ inlet? Thanks
Was this the mega or standard chirp model? Is the mega worth the extra cost? Noticed the amazon link goes to standard but one setting in video was for mega.
@@jeffmeyer617 I have the exact same battery as in the video.... a helix 7 on full brightness barely gets through a sun up to sun down day.... been running that for 2 years. A regular vexilar lead acid battery doesn't make it half a day on full brightness
Learned more about my Helix in this video than in a year and a half of messing around with it on my own. Thank you Jay!

Best photography , most informative videos , free content - Jay is the fishing GOAT!
As someone who just started using my Helix for open water fishing this year I really appreciate this video!!
Had my Helix G5 for 3 years. Learned more from Jay's video than anywhere else, including the user manual. Thanks!
This just upped my fish finder game by at least 100x. Thanks for this!
One of the best video tips for using the Helix models, thanks!

If you have small kids on the boat, you crank the gain and watch their eyes light up. 😄 Easy way to get them excited. Excellent vid Jay!
More of these please. As a novice electronics user this is extremely helpful

Great video Jay, been learning how to use my new Helix and this helped a ton!
Learned so much about using sonar in this video. Thank you.
Best helix video I’ve seen.
Awesome tutorial Jay I love the RTS window with A-scope for jigging under the boat

This gets me all pumped up for the weekend. Then I go out and get close to skunked 😂
Thanks for the video and the tips/info!

What a helpful video. Thank you for providing this information.

Awesome info. I really need. To use my side imaging more then I do
Yoooo it's smarter every days cousin uploading another BANGER
Jay, you should do this same video format for the other brands you mentioned please. Especially the Garmin!

Jay! Can you tell us about your transducer, and set up? Please, and ty
Tremendous Jay. Thanks so much! What weight is your jig choice for 20ft of water? And is braided line OK for drifting/trolling?
On the Helix you can hold the view button and select the exact view via the cursor arrows you would like to see
What’s the portable bracket you are using for the transducer?
@reggiegiesbrecht5747 did you ever find out what kind of bracket it was?
Good fish. Thanks for the great information!

Good stuff, Jay.

So helpful thanks Jay!
Thank you.
Jay. Come to simcoe and let's go fishing man.

Anyone else get stressed watching Jay go over all those fish?
what would be a good entry level coming off a flasher. would like a somewhat big screen.? please help. just for ice fishing
Good day to Jay, Sam, and the baby!! Wear your vest and pick up your trash!!!

Can you do an in-depth for garmin livescope
Nice
Ice fishing with that battery and a helix 7 si I barely get a full day
Upgrade to a lithium battery. It will really extend your run time, especially in cold temps.

I have a helix 7 but it doesn’t have side view
I have a little bit older helix 5, KVD edition, switched from Lowrance. 10 times better
Did someone wish they wore long pants?
What was floating in the water near the end?
A marker buoy so he knows where he was marking fish.
you looks tired to fish walleye MDR just go for musky 🥳🥳🥳
Step 1 - return the helix
Step 2 - buy a Lowrance
Step 3 - mark walleye on the screen
He was marking Walleye the whole time what are you talking about
Que vídeo top esse ! ua-cam.com/video/0xOMRE7j7B8/v-deo.html
