What happens when you don't clean your washing machine for 5 years?

Before we moved into our current place, we lived in my mother-in-law's flat that she rented out for many years. When we washed our clothes in the washing machine, we noticed small specks of black stuff on our clothes but we weren't sure where it came from. We saw the washing machine cleaner powder at DAISO and wanted to give it a try to see if it would fix the problem. The DAISO washing machine cleaner powder worked really well. You can see huge chunks of mold were lifted off the inner tub of the washing machine. Unfortunately, the machine was way too dirty and even after multiple rinses, we could not get all the mold off. In this case, it's better to get the washing machine professionally cleaned or replace it altogether. Our mother-in-law's washing machine is pretty old (more than 5 years old) so we decided to replace it. If you're renting, try inspecting the washing machine to see if there is any mold in the inner tub. If mold isn't very visible, then you can try out a washing machine cleaner powder for a peace of mind. If the washing machine is too dirty, then reach out to your landlord to see if it can get cleaned or replaced. Long-term exposure to mold can be harmful to ones health so be vigilant in checking and cleaning out mold in your home!

It's still dirty lol. But cleaner than before la

​@@LivingwithSunthat 'seaweed' is liquid or softener residue. It won't happen with powder detergents. But you still need to clean the machine.
