Not really, I make a lot of room-by-rooms, and even without it’s still used a lot by me and I never feel like its underused, if anything it’s overused in some levels
Vertical scroll stop lets you make “play as the enemy” levels. Put vertical scroll up, and stop the scroll when Mario is just off screen. Then put an enemy that follows mario, and since mario is off screen it looks like you’re controlling the enemy
Actually, there are a few things considering scrolling that differ between main area and sub area. Let me go through what you are able to do in one are, but not in the other: Main area: - Custom Autoscroll - One screen high levels by only using the lower 14 blocks Sub area: - Vertical levels - Vertical scroll stops (combineable with horizontal ones) Available in both areas: - Autoscroll - Horizontal scroll stops Be aware that scroll stops do not always work (I think it's a bug), so playtest your levels.
This is the most underrated channel on UA-cam how does he only have 1k? The first time I looked at his channel I though he had like 500k but then I see 1k😐
You forgot a tip: If nothing is at a position of being over the bottom screen it is possible to have it only go to the line inbetween the two sets of screens and still work. (TLDR: You can have one screen tall scroll-stops if nothing is more than 1 screen high)
This is great you took the time to explain the room cut system in a video. I personally learned this by myself and since allways build my stages with this in mind. Anyways, the knowledge of room cutting is noticeable weak among average makers. That need to change. As it can make potential stages awesome.
Good Video! I have an idea for a next video, that I don't see anywhere on UA-cam: 10 Tips and Tricks for Aesthetics in Level. What I mean is how making a level "more beautiful to see", because sometimes I see very bland levels. Bye, and congratulations for the 1k Subscribers! (EDIT: I wrote "I see anywhere", when I wanted to say "I don't see anywhere")
Scroll Stop is kind of annoying for me sometimes. You have to use ground or hard block to make a scroll stop. That part isn’t annoying, what is though is that you have to build it through the whole level. This could be annoying if you’re making rooms in different sizes because if you’re trying to make a little room and you don’t want the player to cause the screen to scroll up you’ll have to make a scroll stop on top of the room. This could mess up large rooms because the scroll stop would block some part of the room. This doesn’t happen in a Vertical Sub Area but if you’re trying to make more than four rooms you’ll have to put a pipe to go back to the main area (which cannot be vertical) and make rooms there. I hope Nintendo changes the way of making scroll stops. Like making an invisible box that will be around a room.
I have an idea! Maybe there is a boss fight but you want 2 boss fights without the player noticing, maybe you have to bring a hammer powerup or get a bomb from the main boss and fight the secret boss there.
Tip: If you have a 3D World level that you want to have a semi-solid background in, use a vertical scroll stop and put the top of the semi-solid above it. The level will have to be slightly smaller, though.
I wish you could just place scrollstops instead of having to build them like that This is such a limmited feature Not only do you have to block an entire wall But you are also limitet to the way in wich you can break blocks sideways to progress I feel like there was more potential
You can do floor scrolling, I mean that in most professional troll levels we can't see the ground but we can still be trolled with what the invisible ground hides and I would be very grateful if you would. I am putting my first roots in the troll levels and I believe that you could help others who are also interested in trolling or also create common levels but the ground cannot be seen. Thanks 🙏
Just another scroll stop idea, you can have Mario one block offscreen, and so if you have a fast autoscroll with a scrollstop to prevent the camera from moving Mario more than one block offscreen. This will mean that the whole room can be seen, but not Mario This is very useful for puzzle levels such as one I made, where it seems as Mario plays as a mole and has to activate a p switch with it, controlling the mole with his horizontal position.
@@honey-bun3976 I think someone more popular than me made that level actually, I'm not even sure I uploaded mine when I made it, so that probably wasn't my level
I'm making a level about assorted puzzles, and on this one part in the main world, I have a scroll stop room. Basically, it's supposed to be a combination lock, and the mechanism is above the screen. However, that's the one part that's not locking the screen. I followed all the directions, searched like five other tutorials, followed those instructions, and even restarted the game, and it's still not working! I cannot have people looking at the mechanism and cheating lol, any suggestions? Also btw every other scroll stop is working fine
Can you do a video on how to have the Video scroll move down. but it doesn't kill you. I ask because in some levels, you have to control a monty mole, but you cant see mario, because the auto scroller moved down just far enough where you can see the screen, but not mario
Does anybody else notice that the build area is 3 screens tall? I saw this twice but the first time is the best evidence. The second time could just be a vertical sub area, but the first one is top to bottom.
I've been wracking my brains trying to make a level with multiple "rooms" and one that goes vertically from top to bottom (the level itself is horizontal with 2 "zones") that is entered via a warp pipe from the other "zone" in the level. The game constantly wants to have the vertical room all the way against the right side of the screen, so you can see either a huge wall of ground blocks or just an empty space. Nothing I've tried has worked and it'd look so much better if the "room" were centered in the screen.
Why do you keep calling them Iron Blocks? They're called 'hard blocks' not iron. Because only in the castle theme do they even begin to look like iron, in the rest they look like breakable blocks just gray.
When Ceave Gaming stopped making "Tips, Tricks, and Ideas", this man stepped in. It's awesome.
Nice video! I feel like scroll stopping is such an amazing tool that is underused by creators!

I think Ceave gaming has an aesthetics video, it's one of his older ones
Great demonstration. The grey blocks are referred to in-game as hard blocks.
Yeah IDK why I keep referring to them as iron blocks, was that what they were call in smm1 or had Minecraft just corrupted my memory lol
@@Odyssey_Central they were always called hard blocks
At 3:53 Odyssey did use the correct term but really only there from what I see
I enjoyed the scroll stop rooms because it helped me make Mario Bros. phases 1 & 2.

I found the best way to use scroll stop is in between a sub area, to avoid the player seeing the next area. It also works in bosses.

I like to use scroll stop to make levels more compact since you only get 40 screens.
