I just stumbled upon this video after doing similar to a go kart wheel rim which is stuck good waiting for hydraulic 15 ton 3 jaw puller to hopefully complete the job. I actually used 2 heavy duty washers with 1-1/2" ID welded to the hub with the same logic that better leverage is obtained with the puller jaws near the wheel hub. Have watched dozens of videos with different ideas and I thought my idea was novel although logical before stumbling on this video, but I guess it is not. Glad to see someone else had the same logical idea, which gives me more confidence my stuck wheels will come out. Got the ideal process just waiting on that puller to arrive. A manual 2 jaw puller was not enough and it kept twisting.
How it didn't on mine I continued using mine after changing the tire without a puller and half the axle came out with the rim tire I slide it back in and mowed grass
Don't need a $200 puller, but do need a $2000 lathe to make the ring, $600 Mig Welder rig to weld it on, $100 Impact wrench, etc. etc. The welding of the ring should have loosened the rust allowing it to be knocked off, but letting the weld cool allowed the hub to shrink more tightening the hold.
Common Sense would say the factory should machine a ring on the hub to get a puller on for repairs. Great job because you will give some heat to the needed area by welding the ring on.
Wouldve been nice to actually see the axle. Based on the video, I was unable to see what was in the rim or what was removed from the rim, or the aftermath.
Brian Blonowicz just got out of the hospital I had a triple bypass not up to par yet couple more weeks be back in the shop..let me no how many you need send you a couple to try out.The puller I used I got from harbor freight.
I have a Toro Titan wheel hub that is being contrary tried to use a puller and instead of it pulling the hub off it broke the puller. I have tried everything even took it to one of my local shops and they told me that I would have to cut it with a grinder and beat it off in pieces with a 2 lb Sledge or a hammer.

Sometimes you gotta get creative.with a hub puller or a regular 3 jaw puller your arms are to far apart. Your hub will flex. If you watch the video you need to pull as close to center as possible. That's why I made a ring. I hate to see people beating on rims you can really do damage.
@@bobcarpenter3289 yeah unfortunately can't do that with mine they are already broke one of the studs and an arm completely broke off The hub is shaped like a rounded off X. The Toro Titan is a commercial mower not a homeowner mower the rear wheels mount to the hub with four stud bolts just like a car wheel it has disc brakes that are mounted to the hub just like a car that disc came off easily but the hub itself is seized the disc is threaded onto the hub can't weld anything next to the shaft because that part of the hub is threaded. The brake disc threads on and then uses the wheel lugs to hold it in place have to pull the wheel lugs completely out to thread It off it's the weirdest design I have ever seen. I even called the manufacturer thinking that the hub was made onto the shaft and they say it's definitely can be pulled off it has a Carter key. It's just one of those things you just have to see. Manufacturer says if you can't get it off to replace the entire shaft which turns out is expensive as heck. Again my username is thebradmasterflash you can message me on the platform I hinted at.
I have a snap on puller to but was actually at harbor freight saw that puller thought it looked narrow so I bought it. Worked great. Better to pull close to center as you can.

By using a hammer or sludge you can damage the inside of the rearend. Great job on this

One way this problem could easily be avoided is that the assholes at John Deere were to put about a half a cent Worth of grease on the flipping axle

I used a hammer and a pole and used oil let it sit pound it drip more oil on let it sit and keep on pounding mine still works nothing broke

The rim is convex really hard even with a center punch to get a good bit started
