    two notes for everyone 1) before inserting the new tube, always check the inside of the old tire for nails, and such, sticking through the true so you don't damage the new tube 2) gently tapping the tire with a rubber hammer while inflating it will seat the bead without using the extra air pressure. a 2x4 plank works well, too, if you don't have a rubber hammer. cheers

    TIP: Use the round end of the handle of a crescent wrench as a tire spoon and then you don't have to worry about the sharp end of the screwdriver or pry bar edge cutting the inner tube.

    Excellent editing!!! I always use dish soap on the beads to get them to pop out without having to exceed the recommended pressures by too much. Excellent job!!! Cheers!!

    I don't know if you will see this comment due to the making of this video 3 years ago. I have to THANK YOU for being a wonderful mentor to me. gave me me courage and ability that I to can fix small engines and things associated with them. After I broke my neck and had 8 pins and 2 rods put in I felt really useless due to limitations. Now after the last three to four years of watching you, Steve's Small Engine Saloon,

    Hello Bruce and nice job! Yes removing a rim off a rusted axel can be difficult. Heat is sometimes required. When you put the rim back on just make sure to use anti seize compound. Gene

    The trick to removing or installing and tubeless tire is to make sure that the bead opposite of where you are working with your tire spoons (levers) is pressed down to the center section of the rim. This was happening automatically for you when you were removing the tire.
    The C-clamps were a "win-win" when installing the tire because not only did they prevent the tire from walking around the rim behind you, but they kept that part of the bead down in the center.

    all the tubes i have fitted with the rim on the mower i never take the Tyre off completely;
    just break the bead on both sides of the Tyre, remove the outer side of the Tyre slip the tube in and put it back on, make up a squirt bottle with water and dish soap to help remove and fit the Tyre.

    I installed tubes in both tires (4” plastic wheels) on a craftsman 5hp snowblower without removing the tires from the wheels or the wheels from the machine. But you do need to break the bead front and back. Once the beads are broke and the tire is loose on the wheel poke the inner tube in position all the way around, get valve stem in first. Poke with a blunt tool, the handle end of a butter knife would work. Laying the machine on its side made it convenient to get at tire.

    I put two tubes in my riding mower rear wheels yesterday before seeing your video. When I inflated them I never heard that thunk with the bead reseating. They look fine to me and I did mow with them. How would I know if it's correct or not? Does sometimes it not make that noise or did I just not put enough air in because I was going just over 10 lb because I didn't trust the portable compressor gauge. Neither tire made the thunk So how would I know if it's seated correctly. Would it be obvious?

    • @BrucesShop

    I know it's mickey mouse. But that green Slime stuff you get at walmart works surprisingly well on my garden tractor tires.
    Just remove the valve core, put in the rated amount of slime for your size tire, insert the core, fill back up with air , rotate or drive the tire & you're done.

    Vice grips easier to use than C clamps. Put a piece of 3/4" threaded rod vertical in vice, put wheel on the rod and if needed a flat washer then a nut. tighten it down and you won't have to fight the wheel flopping all over the bench. Squirt soapy water on beads and tire will go on easier.

    For the relatively high price you pay for a "John Deere," you'd think they'd come with something better than what have to be the POOREST QUALITY TIRES ON THE PLANET. We have one of their 17p trailers - betcha it hasn't been rolled more than a dozen kilometers in 10 years - yet the sidewalls on both tires are all cracked.
    What the hell do these manufacturers do.... lie awake nights dreaming up formulas the ensure the rubber breaks down or rots long before the tread wears out? And while I'm ranting... just TRY finding a replacement tire for under $100 - even our local John Deere dealer doesn't stock them. They do have the entire tire & wheel though - $149.00!!! jEEZ!
