One of the reasons I like Iwai is his Yakuza background. I'm a Yakuza series fan, so I like to try and link the Yakuza and Persona verses together through Iwai. I think you're missing the point with Tsuda, if Iwai gives Tsuda the guns, they can be traced back to Iwai if things go south. By giving those guns Iwai is somewhat involving him in underground affairs that he already left from, which will endanger Kaoru. Shadow Tsuda's motive reveal is a perfect representation of Japan's older generation being threatened by the younger generation and how they are reluctant to pass the torch. Which is another theme the game conveys. As for Kaoru I think him being boring and uninteresting was the point of his character.....Iwai tried hard in keeping Kaoru out of trouble to live a generic ordinary highschool life.
He sells airsoft guns which still make some noise, enough to do some damage if one accidentally goes off in his tiny workshop in the back of the store.
I always felt the gun problem was less about the guns themselves and more on him not wanting to get back in with the yakuza. I sort of remember him saying that he feared that it wouldn't stop with just this set of (fake) guns.
the point is that they're supposed to be real guns, they're just "fake real guns" cause the game devs didn't want the controversy... even tho it's an M game and you can date your teacher
Fake guns, dudes old clan potentially ends up using them in a shoot out, they die; other alt. The clan finds out they’re fake? Guess who’s getting into serious shit. Worst case scenario the clan accuses the other mafia of cheating them. The fake guns had a lot of potential for huge trouble
I don't get why people hate Naoki from Persona 4. I get finding him forgettable but why hate? His last rank ups were written so well. Did people just hate him so much from the first impressions, like with Shu the Tower Link? Is that it?
Have to say, probably one of, if not my favorite confidant from this game, and while the side characters do kinda suck, the main thing is, it's about him, not them so at least there's that. Plus it's just fun watching him move back and froth in the menus,
Just noting naoki got a whole half episode or so in P4 the animation (I have no clue if he showed up in P4G the animation) where he showed up as a major character during the camping trip
The only thing I hated about this confidant is that the courage stat requirement is way too high. Other than that, I think it’s one of the best. In terms of usefulness, if the courage requirement wasn’t so high, it’s almost as useful as Takemi’s or Yoshida. The upgraded guns are a cheaper alternative to just straight up buying new ones. Also on an unrelated note, I finally played SMT: Nocturne, and it’s okay so far. I’m just not as invested in it because of the bare bones plot and bare bones characters. Yes, I understand that SMT is supposed to be a less story focused game, but I’m not as invested in the game.
I think the high guts requirement makes sense in this case, so I don’t really mind it all that much. The only stat requirement that pissed my off was needing Max charm for Makoto’s social link. It was the only social stat requirement in the game that didn’t make any sense. I don’t need to be a debonair to talk to an asshole; Just like I don’t need to be a Bad ass in order to eat a bento that someone made for the first time.
BlueRasBerryMadness no, it makes sense for you needing lvl 5 courage when that thug pulls a gun out on you during the confidant. If it was lvl 3 or 2 to start it, then it wouldn’t be a problem. Btw, fuck those ‘you need this stat maxed out to INITIATE this’ social links.
In four play-throughs I modded exactly two guns: one for the PSN trophy, and a second because I liked the aesthetic of the AK-looking one for Yusuke. Otherwise yeah, itemize guns/weapons ftw
It says in the game they're model guns that shoot real bullets so they're lighter and cheaper. Thus iwai would get the evidence with the guns traced back to him. They should really remake this video honestly.
Mamoru will always be my favorite for personal reasons. I tend to gravitate towards characters with those types of struggles which is why I like Ryuji so much. Akinari is also really good, but I always wondered how they were able to publish the book since the ending was given to the protagonist.
i took it as the guy was getting Iwai to make the fake guns so when he took them the Korean mafia and they realized the guns weren’t real he could blame iwai and get off scott free with his money still. and i think kaoru was boring bc he’s just supposed to be a normal kid bc iwai has been trying to give him a regular life.
They handled naoki so poorly in the anime he shows up during the camping trip episode and they get through his dilemma and resolution in like 5 minutes narukami just dropped some Godly wisdom on a him he's like oh oh okay and then disappears the rest of the show
I mean, Kiryu could've beat up that one dude who points a gun at them and everything woulda been instantly fixed. Kaoru would've even graduated university with honors just because of that
I felt Iwai was making real guns in the back room, the store sold fake guns, but there were plenty hints that he also did real guns. Such as the fact that Hong Kong mafia would not want fake guns
Loved Iwai as a character, actual story was weaker than it should have been and tragically his bonuses are *only* good on a first playthrough since it's largely just more custom options and then eventually making them free. He's definitely a very low priority in general and that sucks

*_G U N D A D D Y_*
The art book says it all: he sells toy guns, why does he have ear protection?
Also he's voiced by the current English voice of Guts which is funny.
He sells airsoft guns which still make some noise, enough to do some damage if one accidentally goes off in his tiny workshop in the back of the store.
viper32153 Um... not really? But that's not my words it's in the artbook.
The current voice of guts? As in the voice in the new poopy anime
daddy iwai is finally here
Aiden Shaw Indeed he is
I always felt the gun problem was less about the guns themselves and more on him not wanting to get back in with the yakuza. I sort of remember him saying that he feared that it wouldn't stop with just this set of (fake) guns.
Cameron Sellers you and me both
I can't Unsee the junpei thing now
X3RNIOM You have to admit, if it was Junpei then, puberty hit him real good.
Puberty can do wonders you know?
X3RNIOM Yeah
Hot grownup Junpei
When junpei has had enough of yukari's bullshit
Anyone else headcanon that when Kaoru enrols at Shujin, he become friends with Mishima and thinks he's the coolest? Just me? Ok.
the point is that they're supposed to be real guns, they're just "fake real guns" cause the game devs didn't want the controversy... even tho it's an M game and you can date your teacher

Yeah the guts thing was annoying but other than that i really liked this confidant
Eric E not only that, but the fact that it opens around Madarame’s palace. Especially on a new game it’s a chore to get it up to lvl 4
I think the high guts requirement makes sense in this case, so I don’t really mind it all that much. The only stat requirement that pissed my off was needing Max charm for Makoto’s social link. I just gotta add because of that second trip to Mementos part:
Days until Iwai gets Stabbed: 0
They show Naoki while on the camping trip in the anime and I remember him having a nice scene with Yosuke.
I feel like with Iwai they just did his confidant story then went "oh shit, he needs skills, ummm.. umm. Fuck it, gun upgrades".
YES GUNDAD
real fake guns (TM) the confidant
I never used his confidant skill since you can't mod the itemized ultimate guns
In four play-throughs I modded exactly two guns: one for the PSN trophy, and a second because I liked the aesthetic of the AK-looking one for Yusuke.
Otherwise yeah, itemize guns/weapons ftw
Tired Gun Daddy is here
Iwai is my favorite for some reason.
Gun daddy IWAI
Iwai is my favorite Jack Bros. character
I always took it that Iwai's fake guns were so good that they could be easily modified into actually weaponry
It says in the game they're model guns that shoot real bullets so they're lighter and cheaper. Thus iwai would get the evidence with the guns traced back to him. They should really remake this video honestly.
Karou knew all along that he wasn't his dad so yeah they really forgot the whole confidant making this video.
Noaki was in persona 4 the animation in one of the episodes dedicated to social link characters
Still, the Sun Guy Akinari is my fav link. Fight me
Who doesn't like Akinari
Akinari's story is a direct hit to the feels
Mamoru will always be my favorite for personal reasons. I tend to gravitate towards characters with those types of struggles which is why I like Ryuji so much.
Akinari is also really good, but I always wondered how they were able to publish the book since the ending was given to the protagonist.
BlueRasBerryMadness in the last few days of p3 you can talk to akinari's mom and give her the book
Michael Fang I did talk with his mom, but I don’t remember being given an option to give her the ending.
I’m sorry I just... he looks so much like Junpei that I’ll never unsee it and it’s my own personal canon until proven wrong...
Naoki was in P4 the animation on the school trip episode
i took it as the guy was getting Iwai to make the fake guns so when he took them the Korean mafia and they realized the guns weren’t real he could blame iwai and get off scott free with his money still.
and i think kaoru was boring bc he’s just supposed to be a normal kid bc iwai has been trying to give him a regular life.

You should be gratefully.
I mean, Kiryu could've beat up that one dude who points a gun at them and everything woulda been instantly fixed. Kaoru would've even graduated university with honors just because of that
diego bandy Yeah, bit Kiryu can beat a tiger with his bare hands, so that's not saying much.
Kiryu/Majima crossover in P5 Dancing make it happen Atlus
While he was there, he could have just gone and punched the entirety of the Hong Kong mafia
Big Boomstick Daddy
Am I the only one who Noticed That Characters Never Touch Others Like At the End with Sojiro And futaba
I felt Iwai was making real guns in the back room, the store sold fake guns, but there were plenty hints that he also did real guns.
Such as the fact that Hong Kong mafia would not want fake guns
He's not shady hes E D G Y
I think Iwai's confidant would have been more substantial if things like reloading items or elemental ammos
Sake from Persona 4 have a brother? I mean that sounds right but I cannot remember what he looked like
He had the same hair color as Saki but his hairstyle was pretty weird; it looks like a muffin.
I bearly remember Saki. As of right now I'm thinking of Ai
Saki was the girl Yosuke had a huge crush on and was later on pushed into the TV world by Adachi.
I know who hes is i don't remember her face
you can just search it up. i'm having kind of a hard time trying to describe her appearance as well.
He sells you GUNS.... and adorable little cat outfits.
so there is coffee dad and gun dad. whats next. admin dad? ( aka mishima boy)
The Legion political dad (aka yoshida)
Mishima is too soft to be a daddy
He's so cool
So how many are left again?
Which persona game is the best persona 1 persona 2 persona 3 persona 4 or persona 5
Eh? What do you mean? Persona 1 & 2 don't exist
For me it's 3,5,2,4,1
King Pelican respect the oldes i really don't know persona 1 or 2 but respect
It's a joke man, but to be honest, i quite enjoyed 2.
King Pelican no prob bob
Yes
Rainbow Iwai?
Iwai is the best Guncle
Loved Iwai as a character, actual story was weaker than it should have been and tragically his bonuses are *only* good on a first playthrough since it's largely just more custom options and then eventually making them free.
He's definitely a very low priority in general and that sucks
I feel that Mishima should have been iwai's son tbh
Ayyyyyyy
