- This show does a great job at showing the black experience in America from multiple angles.
Watch the series on Amazon Prime or wherever else you find it. It's been great so far.
A god should provide more than comfort. Job was a wealthy man, did her God give her wealth?
I count, 1,2,3 African Gods in this room and 2 of them want to exercise restraint?

Anansi's speech on the slave ship was one of the greatest things ever televised.
you know the crazy thing about that is that he was the writer. i think they set him up

8:00 So many parallels in this scene, and it really hits hard when Anansi shames Bilquis and Thoth for "living their best life" for the delusion of peace while their people are being enslaved, imprisoned, treated like animals, and killed.
even more ironic given he has a history of selling his own people into slavery, and his VERY FIRST ACTION in the series was to convince a boatload of slaves to kill themselves so he could reap the benefits of the sacrifice.
@@alexsolomon7991 Hadn't even thought of that, but you're right. Now it makes me wonder if he's just a charismatic influencer trying to sew chaos and discord, similar to Eris, or the Morrigan.
@@indigothecat more along the lines he's probably directly in cahoots with Odin and Loki, feeding off of the chaos just like Loki intends to, and has the exit strategy already prepared of "blaming it on the white guys" becasue most of the indigenous gods ALREADY distrust or outright loathe Odin, and the RESST of them will have a bone to pick with him after the con!
@@indigothecat oh, i'm pretty sure if the story had continued, we'd find out that Ananasi had sussed out Odin and Loki's con already, and was running his OWN version of the exact same con.....with the handy exit strategy of "blame it on the white guys" which he was literally spending virtually every appearance in the series planting the seeds of.
@alex solomon Anansi said sacrifice is better than death ... Why not sacrifice ya self for your people and a Black God than slavery and a white god!?

@willie417 actually the actor who played Nancy also wrote for the show infact he wrote the very dialoge he spoke lmfao
They wrote Anansi out of the show coz they're afraid of the truth he spoke.

I absolutely *LOVE* Orlando Jones' Anansi, Mr. Nancy, in Season 1 and 2.
Ananzi is a god who was torn unwillingly between two continents. He never wanted to come here, but he had no choice because his followers were dragged here and they dragged him with them.

the actor who played Anansi was truly doused in his energy. he was waking us up. this whole show was a wake up for those who know but Anansi awoken something that they was afraid the masses would be exposed to. the truth.
Orlando Jones has incredible talent and created moments too meaningful for the garbage-dealing movie industry. If he compromised or was less thought-provoking, they would have let him stay, but then he wouldn't be the AMAZING Orlando Jones!!!
do you even know what youre saying? or you just swept away by the hollywood/media is subliminally messaging you? also being an actor in Hollywood who have been in it for too long is already compromised. I mean are you the kind of person who believes everything they hear over a screen? thats like believing every priest is holy.
also if you dont know Hollywood is a tool for the rich to use to divide and distract the public, so if an actor is acting like an activist because they want to be hired and get paid , why do you think Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and many others are living too well? they are compromised. for the almighty dollar.
He showed his talents on that show.
Anansi truth STANDS ON ITS OWN. (AND THEY KNOW IT). WE ALL KNOW WHO THEY ARE👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾
Back when American Gods was a good show. Maan.. Anansi just spoke soooo much truth!!!!

This show was a masterpiece and he was a master in this I loved when he stepped into the scene. ❤❤❤ one of my favorite roles of his.
I did like the Orishas we met in Season 3 though I think they should have given us a bit more of them. But I missed Mr Nancy through the whole show (I've loved Anansi since I was 5 and watched the Rabbit Ears (We All Have Tales) video on his story and listened to Denzel Washington tell his story, including the reason why his stories travelled from Africa to Jamaica, they didn't give us the finer details but they didn't sugarcoat how he travelled).
Alsokind of wishing we got to see a bit more of Baron Samedi and Maman Brigitte before the show was cancelled, though we know they at least (and presumably all the Loa) are doing more than fine in New Orleans.
Yes. For real.
How did he travelled in your tales?
@@ptolemeeselenion1542 The people who were taken from African to Jamaica as slaves and made to work on the sugar farms brought the stories with them, including the stories about anansi.
Idk how well they’re doing in NOLA either. Look at the Black kill data, the violence against Black women, the collusion of folks living their best life. I suspect they’re doing no better in NOLA than they are in Atlanta or Chicago. Do you see progress⁉️I may have missed it….
@@jeanettesdaughter I meant worship and belief wise they seem to be doing ok. And standing firm on not joining Wednesday's war. Not that I think MR Nancy wants to join Wednesday's war either, he has his own to think about. Plus SPOILER:
chances are he knows about what Wednesday has up his sleeve, he knows every story past present and future of course
The minute Nancy left I was done with the whole series. Starz flopped on this one
This story told in this manner was epic. As alabaster as I am coming from a melting pot of a city, this story line told it in a manner even that anyone can empathize with the struggle. No can know anyone else's struggle fully but with windows like these it brings humanity a little closer to each other and the human experiences suffering.
Him getting fired from the 100 was the best thing that ever happened to him so thank you Joseph and rosenberger for firing Ricky because he moved on and found something better
No not really, anyone not ignorant to history knows most of it bullshit. Slavery was never just a "black thing".
Its been a everybody thing. Blacks enslaved blacks. Asians enslaved Asians. Whites enslaved whites etc etc.
Everyones "race" experienced racial tensions to say otherwise is denial of history. Shit they still practice it in the middle east and in Africa.
The show was okay, but the whole "evil whitey" is holding us down bit was silly.
Hm.
Anansi is the best out of all of them
2022 shows like these needs to come back
They where so scared when this episode dropped 💯💯.
...The real "American horror story"

For me, as troubled as the production of season 2 was, it was still better in terms of handling this topic than season 3.

Don't know if you ended up seeing it, but the main character is the least interesting person on the entire show. So, if you can endure getting through scenes focused on him, you'll be fine. The show has a great style and look, but some of the execution (i.e., pacing, etc.) is off.
I loved this show cant find it anywhere it originally was on Starz and Orlando Jones killed it he definitely was the backbone to the African gods.I subscribed to Starz recently to look for the show but it's not even on there which has me thinking why

Where are Baron Samedi & Shango?
This is why they ended this show because so much truth is spoken to the abundance.
His monologues are so powerful. They had to get rid of his black ass. 😂❤❤
So we basically witnessed a man speak and deliver a powerful dialogue that I assume was unsanctioned or approved because of how inflammatory it was?! He spoke what most of us know but are afraid to say. I assume there were some repricussions from this; much like when Colin took a knee for the right reasons. I say if we know and witnessed how Mr Orlando was dealt with where is his support!!
Im saying if black people have a platform and choose to go against the grain for the greater good we cant ever let them stand alone. Colin was failed by the very people he protested for. I dont know the whole truth of this or what happened after but it seems we allow " them" to silence those who dare to be outspoken; we watch them fall and it fortifies the fear for others to take that stand.
I think Orlando Jones should be the next superhero Blue marble him or Denzel Washington

You know nothing about anansi at all so don't comment on a God
@XicX No, I don't, I am commenting on this fictional character on this particular show :P.
@@El_Crazyknight you're still commenting on an accurate potrayal of a God you know nothing of
@XicX Yes and no. I am commenting on a character inspired by a mythological character I know nothing about.
The show's character doesn't give a shit about people, the actual mythological God this character is based on. I don't know shit about.Your point?
@@El_Crazyknight if you knew anything about Anansi, you would'nt be saying such trash, you never grew up on tales of Anansi so you wouldn't know shit. I grew up on tales of Anansi and this potrayal is accurate.
Definitely should have more den 72k views
On another note, like once said a fictional Son of Bast: "I am the ruler of Wakanda. I am not the ruler of everybody."
Bilquis hails from the Himyar, Sheba, Aksum and Saba, the Red Sea, the Arabian desert and the river of the Great African Serpent. Djehuti belongs to the Land of the Two-Lands, the Land of the Bow and the Land of God.
Anansi was the only one who fully evolved into Nancy. He became the Trickster God of the black people over all of the New World. The Spider-Man or Doctor Who of sorts of the Diaspora. He has to transcend his West African and Central African cults roots to become the God of the enl4ved, the righteous angered, the oppressed and the descendant. Thos episode meant to stir up a debate between the African communities (and to some extent, a few ancient Near Eastern communities from Southern Arabia who are no longer there) , the African American community (and to larher extent the African Descended Diaspora across the American continent) and the bi-racial African American's oppositional duality (via Shadow Moon/Baldur/something-more-than-Baldur) .
part of the "Ananasi problem" was that as epic as Orlando's performance was...the subject matter was veering further and further from the book..and taking the character and the story in directions it couldn't afford to go. That trickster was getting waaaaaay too proactive to be just another patsy for Odin and Loki's scam. Much like how Sweeny was getitng too developed as a character to just be some drunk dead on the side of the road. That bit where Odin was the one to curse him with madness, his past as a god-king...the stunt he pulled iwth Odin's spear....that's all unique to the TV series. Good stuff...but too many sideplots with too many facinating characters to keep the narrative on track.
Like they cared about the subject matter to that extent. Look what they did with the Laura character.
Most people agree the Orlando’s writing made it a better show. If it needed to adhere to the book, there will be no need for show runners and writers.

Does anyone know what episode this is?
Let me say Halleluyah. What Bilquise said at the 3:50 mark of the video reigns supreme. Though the Romans crucified Yehushua, it was the Jewish High Priest, Caiaphas, that put him on their radar. Why? Because he was disrupting the power structure sanctioned by Caiaphas under the auspicious of Rome.

When is the new season coming out for this show
You forgot the slave ship scene which should of been the first clip...
This show was too real
of the lot of them, the only ones i have any particulay empathy with is Toth and Anubis. Bilquis is a predator, pure and simple. For that matter, so is Ananasi. He throws jsut enough truth into his stories to get people angry enough to dance to his tune, fall into his web, and get bit and drained while he skitters away happy and full. i STILL maintain he recognized the con Odin was pulling and was helping him delibrately while preparing to pull it on HIM..then let Odin take all the blame for the "collateral damage" blame eeevrything on the white man. old story.

Anansi Ibis and billquist are not black people they are gods and the only thing they care about when it comes to people is how many worshipers they have don't believe me in his very first scene Anansi convinces a ship full of slaves to kill themselves in his name
They are African Gods, meaning they are by their very nature more black than the white Jesus or other Abrahamic deity our people have been taught to worship. All Gods care about worship. in exchange for worship, they affect the lives of their worshipers. Anansi didn't convince slaves to kill themselves...he convinced free men who were captured and about to be enslaved..to take their captors lives instead of being enslaved. can you look at 400 years of black people in America and look down on those who chose to end it and take the slavers with them? The Gods from our parts of the world will always have our best interests at heart, no matter their temperament. 400 years of worshiping Abrahamic gods...if master and slave both pray to the same God, one of their prayers isn't getting answered....is Jesus listening to black people?
Seriously? Yeah, try saying that Thor and Loki and Zeus aren't white people and see how folks take that. 😂
This reach is obvious.
@@MidnightIam Yes, but the very character of Anansi is that of a trickster. I suspect that we would have found out later that he was working with Odin for his own personal gain, and purposely taking the other African Gods out of the fight as well. Convincing the men to kill themselves, whether for the best or not for these slaves, was Mr. Nancy's ultimate goal. Nothing is as it seems on the surface, and that is the genius of this story. Shame the series ended.
@@LadyAstarionAncunin but the gag is Zeus is black, he's described as aethiops which is ethiopian means blackened or burned face lol.
