BRO, one time i just made a new ship and it was perfect
it has 8 jump drives, tons of storage, enough weapons to destroy a ship in a singal shot, a railgun gattling gun
AND I LOG OFF TO GO GET SOMETHING TO EAT AND I LEAVE IT PARKED IN THE CLAN SAFEZONE
15 MINIUTS LATER I LOG BACK ON AND ITS GONE BEACUSE MY TEAMATE LOST A BATTLE AND TOOK IT TO RECLAIM THEIR DESTROYED SHIP
to be fair he won the fight but when i got my ship back 6 of the jump drives were broken, 2 of my 4 reactors exploded, half of my guns were destroyed, the railgun gattling gun and the frount of the ship were just gone
but HE DID NOT EVEN HELP ME FIX UP MY SHIP

(All event descriptions are accurate to my experiences, if a little verbose.)
I first began playing SE back when it only had 16 asteroids at most. Complex systems were a dream, planets weren't even in the books yet, and I was too young to understand what was going on. After years and years of solo play, slowly building my knowledge of the game to the point I thought I knew everything there was to know, I heard it.
A Voice, calling to me from the void.
It began small at first. A piston here, a rotor there. I was impressed by the stability and intuitiveness of the components I was opening myself up to, but the Voice demanded I explore further, and so I did. I made automatic miners, basic ship printers, all without anyone to guide my efforts but myself and the Voice. I learned from my mistakes, and made nearly infallible devices which automated and vastly sped up multiple facets of daily life. I no longer had to worry about resources. I no longer had to spend precious time building ships; a single button press and I could walk away to do anything I wanted and could come back to a brand new ship ready to fly. In doing this, however, I realized I no longer had a purpose, not one I could satisfy alone that is.
And so, It beckoned me forth to unknown worlds.
I tried to follow the Voice, but I could not. I was not ready yet. I had to stop before I could reach my destination. I ended up stranded on a rock some couple hundred thousand kilometers from the nearest planets with no jump drives. The Voice could not reach me, but I did not need its guidance anymore. I knew what to do. I turned the rock into a home, albeit a temporary one quickly abandoned, and created three things; a ship that could take me closer to the inhabited worlds, a printer with which to build my fleet when I got there, and a mechanism that could harvest all the materials I could possibly need. I docked them all together and approached the worlds.
It took an agonizing amount of time, but I did it. When I arrived, I made contact with the locals. It seemed they were at war with a particular individual on the moon. I pledged my support, and went to survey the enemy. Their ship was massive, but had many weaknesses, which many small craft could easily exploit. I had stolen some designs prior to this, so I retreated to my corner of the void and set my printer to automatically print a fleet of them, in addition to a few warships and one capital ship. Sadly the capital ship had to be far smaller than I originally intended it to be, for I had not yet understood how to most effectively harness the teachings of the Voice.
While my printer did this, I was off to research some experimental weapons. Some would later come to call them "warcrimes." It's only natural, of course, considering my place of origin and the things I was doing. The first of many was to be a bomb. I had to design it to be larger and more devastating than anything that had ever come before it. One massive explosive. One instance of damage. One decisive victory. What I made was an obscene display of raw, unkempt power. This was not a teaching of the Voice, this was my own machination. It cried out as I tested it, begging me to stop, lest I tear apart reality.
What I had done was make a "mother of all bombs." It consisted of a cargo container with approximately 72k raw explosives, a grinder which was incapable of picking up any materials, a gun, a timer block, a sensor, and a thick steel casing. When it fell below 100m, it was to grind down the container and release the explosives to be immediately shot by the interior gun. The device would typically end up detonating just above the ground, and could eradicate a whole ice lake in an instant, in addition to anything within the blast radius.
The locals deemed this weapon "too destructive to use." Absolute lunacy, but it was their war so who was I to force it upon them. I sent them my fighters along with one I piloted myself and together we took down the massive fleet carrier. After the battle, I took a closer look at my blueprints and discovered a "programmable block" as it was called. One could give custom instructions to anything in any way they wanted using one, but not all locales allowed their use. I shelved the thought for a later date as I continued following the Voice.
This time, It was running from me. It wanted me to leave. The one whom I had destroyed was Their disciple and used all the best of Its technologies and secrets against me, and yet I won.
I followed It to a new system and crashlanded with a few others on a molten planet. This place was protected by some being called an Administrator, who was watching us closely. Not long after I had made planetfall, the Voice tried its best to keep me there forever. With one single wheel placed, It used that as a catalyst to tear reality asunder right where I stood. Everything was slowly beginning to revolve around an axis. The wheels on our in-construction rovers. The ships we had crashed. The very static platform we were building atop. Even our own bodies. It was like a tornado of molasses, but nothing could be done to escape it. The Voice would have permanently trapped me there if it weren't for the Administrator who, though he was not immune to the effects of the tear in reality, was able to help us escape through transporting us aboard a ship of his own design.
The rest of what happened next remains a blur, but effectively what happened was I travelled for a very long time with this group, honing my skills to perfection, performing vast amounts of research on the domain of the Voice and how to better utilize It as a tool, and how to contain Its power. The group slowly separated, though not before I sent 100 tonnes of tacos to an object called the Mun to feed the little green creatures I had sent there. That is slightly unrelated, but was one of the last times the full group was together. More time passed. Eventually I had long forgotten about pursuing the Voice, as it felt like I had completely tamed it, and I saw no indications of the thought being incorrect. I came to learn of Its name.
It was known as Klang. And unbeknownst to me at the time, I had surpassed it.

    • @malkrie1444
      @malkrie1444 Місяць тому +1

Eventually, one of the members of the group reached out to me to join his faction, considering he knew very well what I was capable of. I accepted his offer, and began my research anew. This new reality had more rules than I was used to, and I had to adjust many of my designs accordingly.
Firstly, scripts did not work in that place. To improve upon the fighter designs I had created in the past, I discovered timer blocks had a single tick delay before they were activated, allowing me to shoot 60 individual rockets at a staggered pace per second.
Secondly, mechanical component heads were very expensive to fully build, causing issues for printers and drills. My solution was to use a copious number of conveyors and connectors at every possible stopping point for every moving part in my designs.
Thirdly, subgrid chains could only be two pistons and two rotors or hinges long. My solution? Replace rotors with a combination of max strength connectors, gyroscopes, and sensors, then replace long piston chains with an "inchworm" piston which used merge blocks and/or connectors to inch itself and any attached constructs along a guided rail.
Reality itself warped around me to prevent such tactics(aka the admins outlawed those designs) and so I had to go into a long period of research and development. Initially I could not get much done, but I built the bits and pieces of my technologies that reality would allow, and rigged them to blow if they were to ever fall into the hands of anyone other than I or anyone I trust. During my time researching the faction fell in a marvelous explosion as the enemy triggered the self destruct of the main printers, it was reborn, lived a longer life, but ultimately died out again. I joined another faction which I was collaborating with... well, I was more intimidating them with my research, which seemed extremely effective at helping them let me in.
In any case, they let me continue my research, and that's when it finally all came together, just as the machine menace entered the system and began wreaking havoc.
Their simple but effective ship designs allowed me to build a specialized printer dedicated to printing just that ship. It was able to print one fully operational destroyer - a ship capable of taking on some battleships and winning - every 15 minutes. A fleet of them could take out almost any base on the server.
Their advanced simulations let me discover a truly horrifying weapon. It would be incredibly hard to use, but when used properly it could destroy anything instantly. I engineered a shield, something which was meant to protect, to be able to obliterate an entire base in an instant, no matter how heavily armored it was. It never saw use, however, as it was deemed "too unethical" for conventional use.
I developed a sensory denial weapon, which would fire tens of dozens of beacons into a battlezone and confuse pilots, denying them the ability to use their HUD.
I developed a mega defense platform, which could shred even the heaviest of armored ships in an instant from many kilometers away.
I discovered infinite ammunition, by breaking the laws of reality to allow for negative amounts of ammunition.
I created a vibroblade, which was capable of sawing through any ship it came into contact with.
I created a shield which acted as a landmine, implementing similar tech as the instant deletion weapon previously mentioned.
I assisted in the creation of a weapon which was capable of disrupting ship jump drives.
I created a weapon which, if we were able to gather the resources for it, would create a laser capable of destroying thousands of heavily armored blocks per second.
I created a ship which required only steel plates to fly.
Sadly, however, my most important and terrifying invention took so long to create there was nobody left to use it on. That invention lay in wait to this day, to be deployed to a proper battlefield. The invention is a rather ubiquitous concept executed in a terrifying way. It is a gravity cannon. Not just any gravity cannon though. It is fully automatic 120rpm, double barrel, firing rounds that are immune to gravity shielding and incredibly effective against conventional shielding, accelerates to 200m/s by the time it leaves the barrel, contains no moving parts, AND is small enough to fit on the destroyers which can be printed in 15 minutes. It is an extremely devastating weapon, capable of penetrating three heavily armored 100k block ships lengthwise, and if it gets stuck inside the enemy ship, any movements will cause great internal damage. And that is happening twice per second per ship, with as many highly maneuverable ships present as you can muster, in a cheap and tiny package.
Oh, I suppose I also tried to make a full-length song using only timer blocks, but sadly the sound system was too powerful for reality to comprehend so notes ended up being dropped and I never finished it. I tried doing a more analogue method but that came in at over one million blocks. Nobody cares about that as much as the rules of reality shaping around me, having fully tamed Klang, and/or the devastating weapons I made. So, I leave you with one last military invention of mine.
*I made a craft literally capable of blotting out the sky with warheads, that had a full formula for determining the range of the weapon given gravity, rpm, length of the rod which was spinning, etc.*
