    i love this this was super helpful because I usually don’t see other people go through the ugly phase of painting and I feel like oh my god my painting is never going to improve, and I find it really hard to keep the motivation to continue

      Glad it was helpful! And i so get you! It’s easy to get discouraged, I got used to seeing the ugly phase over and over that I realized it was part of the process, but it did take me a while to get used to 😅

    This is exactly what I needed. The beginning of a painting is so overwhelming sometimes but when it’s broken down like this it makes it so much easier to navigate. Thank you!

    Very nice! Sequence of application and deliberate placement of color without stirring it around on the paper really does make a big difference with gouache. Once you master the basic technique, it's a beautiful "painter's paint"!

    I absolutely LOVE these kind of tutorials Sofia!! This is, OF COURSE a beautiful painting. I'm sooo excited now because I'm going to practice this when I return home from work! I always wondered abou the layering process and I always felt overwhelmed because I just thought that maybe it was too advanced for me. I've just started sketching and painting this past January and I'm loving it BEYOND words...lol. Thank you so much for all your videos. Keep making them because the little artist like me out there REALLY benefit from them!! I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday Sofia and I wish you a wonderful week ahead!! 🙂

      ahh thanks so much for your sweet comment 🥰 I'm so excited for you to get practicing! I'll definitely keep making these vids and I'll do more on layering too, it takes some practice but it does click eventually! Have a great week too :)

    This video is terrific. My painting style is almost exactly like yours. I love that you keep your paint tray neat and use those colors with layering and blending on the canvas. One set of tools I’ve added are water brushes that let me dilute the gouache and have enough of them to keep from having to wash my brush. For me, having a tidy painting area keeps me focused.

    This has been fantastic for figuring out the first steps to using gouache. I'd been lost with my initial paintings and only had outdated high school watercolor techniques to go off of, so this video had been helpful!

    I love watching you paint! 💕 Do you use a fixatif or watercolor/gouache varnish once you are finished? I know those tend to morph the colors of gouache but I’m looking for something to waterproof my paintings without it changing too drastically. Any recommendations??

    Super fun to se your process :) !Just a question; how do you prevent the previous layers of gouache from reactivating when you paint on top of it again?

    • @sofiapavanmacias
      @sofiapavanmacias  Рік тому +2

      thank you! this is a good question and I will try to make a video that goes in more depth about this, but essentially, make sure your first layer is thin and watery and that it dries completely before building on top, and then make sure as you build the layers on top the paint gets thicker/less watery. And finally, try to make sure that your paintbrush doesn't get super wet when layering, like try to have the brush only hold the paint you've mixed and not be super saturated with water... hope this helps for now!!

    Super job! It looks so first class and beautiful! l mostly do ink and watercolor wash these days but am still a beginner. My realism art has more of that amateurish look still. I have mostly done abstract art before, which looks more advanced to some. I used white gouache to make some corrections. I've been learning to draw humans in life scenarios starting with standing and walking. Is gouache a good medium for that?

    • @sofiapavanmacias
      @sofiapavanmacias  Рік тому +1

      thank you so much ☺️ Yes gouache is a great medium for so many things, I think it would work well for figure sketching!

    At some point it visually morphed into a yellow-eyed, furry green critter, and i can't unsee it now. Maybe a 3rd lemon is needed. 😅 Its a great painting as a lemon tree though.

    How long do you wait before you paint each layer?

    • @sofiapavanmacias
      @sofiapavanmacias  5 місяців тому +1

      gouache dries super quick (especially the thinner initial layers) so I don't really wait that long at all, normally as I mix new paint on the palette the paint on the paper has dried already!

    Why did you choose green for the shadows on the oranges?

    • @WhiteFyre
      @WhiteFyre Місяць тому

      I can only think of two reasons, because the green leaves are reflecting green light on the fruit, and secondly I think they are complimentary (opposite) colours. Opposite colours can be quite good for shadows, as well as making the main colour POP.
