i love this this was super helpful because I usually don’t see other people go through the ugly phase of painting and I feel like oh my god my painting is never going to improve, and I find it really hard to keep the motivation to continue
Glad it was helpful! And i so get you! It’s easy to get discouraged, I got used to seeing the ugly phase over and over that I realized it was part of the process, but it did take me a while to get used to 😅
This is exactly what I needed. The beginning of a painting is so overwhelming sometimes but when it’s broken down like this it makes it so much easier to navigate. Thank you!
Whenever i feel out of motivation i just watch your videos. I love your work a lot. Can't put it in words how helpful you are
Thank you so so much for this lovely comment 🥹 it really means a lot to me 💕
Very nice! Sequence of application and deliberate placement of color without stirring it around on the paper really does make a big difference with gouache. Once you master the basic technique, it's a beautiful "painter's paint"!
ahh thank you Blick 🥰 love gouache so much hehe
Thank you . Finally makes sense. I have been totally stupid and not understanding. Love your voice. Get past the foundation is big triumph for me.😊
so glad it was helpful :)
This was great. Your explanations and tips are very clear and helpful. More please.
This video was SO helpful! layering is super difficult for me and I'm still learning how gouache changes with water
so glad it was helpful 🥰 I'll make more videos talking about the layering process
I absolutely LOVE these kind of tutorials Sofia!! This is, OF COURSE a beautiful painting. I'm sooo excited now because I'm going to practice this when I return home from work! I always wondered abou the layering process and I always felt overwhelmed because I just thought that maybe it was too advanced for me. I've just started sketching and painting this past January and I'm loving it BEYOND words...lol. Thank you so much for all your videos. Keep making them because the little artist like me out there REALLY benefit from them!! I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday Sofia and I wish you a wonderful week ahead!! 🙂
ahh thanks so much for your sweet comment 🥰 I'm so excited for you to get practicing! I'll definitely keep making these vids and I'll do more on layering too, it takes some practice but it does click eventually! Have a great week too :)
This video is terrific. My painting style is almost exactly like yours. I love that you keep your paint tray neat and use those colors with layering and blending on the canvas. One set of tools I’ve added are water brushes that let me dilute the gouache and have enough of them to keep from having to wash my brush. For me, having a tidy painting area keeps me focused.
Love your work! It was wonderful to see your process..and inspiring.
That turned out so beautiful! I've been learning watercolor and am curious about adding gouache so this was very helpful!
yay love this :)
This has been fantastic for figuring out the first steps to using gouache. I'd been lost with my initial paintings and only had outdated high school watercolor techniques to go off of, so this video had been helpful!
This was fun to watch from start to finish.
yay! thanks for watching!
Beautiful painting and explanations of the process.
I adore the way you teach
This is beyond belief, I love it
Thanks for all the detailed explaination which is very helpful for gouache beginners like myself lol
this is great to hear, thank you so much for watching 🥰
j'adore ce procédé, je vais essayer, bravo
I love how you started to put your materials so peaceful 💖
🥰 thank you for watching!
@sofiapavanmacias Your welcome! 😊
Excellent explanations 😊
Thanks got all this paint and this video is helping me have the courage to actually use it
yay love to hear this :)
Luscious colours
Very useful. I’m a tattoo artist and am try to transition from watercolour to gouache for more graphic designs. Appreciate it
Beautiful
So helpful! Love your editing and tutorial! Great examples and voice-over!
I love it!! What a lovely study! And your explanations are always so clear. Thanks! Looking forward to the next tutorial ;-)
Thank you so much 🥰 so glad it was clear! Already working on some more 😉
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your art and process!
Thank you so much for watching it 🥰
Thank you so much for explaining this! I now understand the reason I couldn't get past the ugly phase of my paintings.
Yay glad it was useful! Yes definitely push through the ugly phase, the more you do it the more you will get used to seeing it 💕
This came out so good. I love how you explain your process. Well done. 🤗💕
thanks so much for watching! 💕
wow!! wonderful video, thank you for showing us this step by step, you've really inspired me to break out my gouache paints :)
yay this makes me happy 🥰 thanks for watching
I love watching you paint! 💕 Do you use a fixatif or watercolor/gouache varnish once you are finished? I know those tend to morph the colors of gouache but I’m looking for something to waterproof my paintings without it changing too drastically. Any recommendations??
So pretty! Thanks for sharing :0 I will definitely use these tips
You're so welcome, thanks for watching 💕
Привет! Замечательное видео и иллюстрация! Мне нравится такая техника работы гуашью 🥰
This was very helpful!
so glad to hear this! 💕
Wow. This was so fun to watch. Loved the video and all the techniques you mentioned here. Can you also show us which colors to mix and how to choose colors for shadows? Thank you :)
Thank you so much for watching 🥰 Will def make more tutorials with tips about mixing and shadows!
Super fun to se your process :) !Just a question; how do you prevent the previous layers of gouache from reactivating when you paint on top of it again?
thank you! this is a good question and I will try to make a video that goes in more depth about this, but essentially, make sure your first layer is thin and watery and that it dries completely before building on top, and then make sure as you build the layers on top the paint gets thicker/less watery. And finally, try to make sure that your paintbrush doesn't get super wet when layering, like try to have the brush only hold the paint you've mixed and not be super saturated with water... hope this helps for now!!
@@sofiapavanmacias thank you so much for the answer, it helped a lot!! :D
Thanx for such a great tutorial ❤ May i know how you avoid reactivating initial layers when you keep adding more layers (because they have some amount of water too, albeit less than the previous layers)?
this is how to do a voice over! very good
Super job! It looks so first class and beautiful! l mostly do ink and watercolor wash these days but am still a beginner. My realism art has more of that amateurish look still. I have mostly done abstract art before, which looks more advanced to some. I used white gouache to make some corrections. I've been learning to draw humans in life scenarios starting with standing and walking. Is gouache a good medium for that?
thank you so much ☺️ Yes gouache is a great medium for so many things, I think it would work well for figure sketching!
🎉 Love it !
Thank you 🥰
Hi thank you for this video :)
What kind of paper do you use? I bought Arches aquarelle paper but when I paint it will be ”bumps” in the paper.
Hi! This is the Etchr perfect sketchbook which is cold pressed :) hope that helps!!
How long do you wait before you paint each layer?
gouache dries super quick (especially the thinner initial layers) so I don't really wait that long at all, normally as I mix new paint on the palette the paint on the paper has dried already!
Thank you for this tutorial
What type of sketchbook were you using during the promo for surf shark when u were in a cafe I think painting a croissant?
sorry for the huge delay in responding 🥹 that sketchbook is a strathmore watercolor journal
At some point it visually morphed into a yellow-eyed, furry green critter, and i can't unsee it now. Maybe a 3rd lemon is needed. 😅 Its a great painting as a lemon tree though.
O my god ❤
Why did you choose green for the shadows on the oranges?
I can only think of two reasons, because the green leaves are reflecting green light on the fruit, and secondly I think they are complimentary (opposite) colours. Opposite colours can be quite good for shadows, as well as making the main colour POP.
Good professional gouache doesn’t require white for opacity.
friends how do we keep gouache from drying out/?
❤❤
Can i know what paint brushes you use?
I think I'm mainly using craftamo brushes in this vid! from the sison set!
I wish. you had your palette in view so we could see the colors.
will keep this in mind! It's hard to film both but I totally get that it's more helpful to see the palette too
