Prolly knowingly that poor man voted for what would become the VP of Castillo, the country's deposed President, when he voted for him in 2021. Now suddenly that poor fella doesnt want her, the VP, when she was legally his successor if anything happened to him politically.
The man is lying. The current President was literally the previous one's Vice President and is now on power after legal succession following the previous one's attempt to quite literally do a coup. "Protesters" are not even protesting they are quite literally just raiding and sacking businesses and attacking anyone who is not supporting them, to the point of setting buildings on fire and killing policemen. Fuck that guy.
Yes, but also don't take that one guy's word for it, it's worth reading more and getting the full picture of the situation. Yup. And massive credit to him for dealing with that low airpressure and high altitude. It's not easy, jumping from a mere 90 ft (30 meters) or so from England, all the way to +10.000 ft (3300m) in Cusco. Not to forget, when making his trip to Andahuaylas ... crossing even the 13.300! ft (4.000 meters) barrier. Which is absolutely insane for a "bus" drive.
I love Peru. I live in New York but I've visited Peru 3 times and will go back many more. Its has its dangerous areas just like anywhere but overall its a nice place.

I’ve been watching bald for a couple of years now and this is a video that brought much joy to me being Hispanic myself (Mexican & Honduran) seeing someone study the language and the culture by exploring it and respecting it. Love the work keep it up
I have mixed feelings about Cusco - you brought back sad memories. I was there with friends in late 1988/early 89 when the area had been infiltrated by The Shining Path - a Marxist guerilla movement. We hitched rides in small trucks to get to Ollantaytambo, the start of the Inc Trail, which was technically off-limits to foreigners. We knew it was dangerous, but when the guerillas entered the village and executed one of our group, the terror kicked in. We fled along the Inca Trail and wild camped for a week, then followed the railway line back to Cusco over days in the darkness of night. I went back in 2012 with my bicycle and toured the country, and was amazed at the change. Let's hope political chaos never returns to like it was back in the 1980s.
Killings and terrorizing people are never the answer, and I condemn it. And we must not forget the reasons those things happened. The centralization of Peru to a single city, Lima, has been so pivotal to things like lack of development in the rest of the country since colonial times. To the extreme that poverty, discrimination, colorism, and corruption affected negatively those who lived in rural areas and were ethnically mostly indigenous. This issue has never been fully addressed, but what we're seeing now is the rise of fascist ideals to counter the plight of the protesters. Even people I know in Lima who are rational and regular people are already treating the "others" as criminals from the outset. It's scary how quickly the government can use those tactics, the ones that create a boogeyman, to shape how people perceive ideas. Unfortunately I don't think the current government has any plans to address the issues of the past and present, but are simply putting on the bandaid of "tough on crime" and the Lima people immediately bought into it. Your experiences, what you remember is also being used to bait people into fear. Frankly, who wouldn't be afraid of random bombings, raids, kidnappings, etc. However the deeper issue is being swept under the rug. Lastly, I don't mean to paint the people of Lima as a monolith because there are people with a wider scope of the problem and hopefully they will be able to get that message across before the country either turns into a fascist state or a place where terror reigns.
Dozens of mechanisms are used to manipulate the minds of people ( young people / living in ‘rural’ and ‘town and fringe’ areas people) in order to prevent them from differentiating between good and evil... It is the distortion of values and principles in order to attack truth, love, family, homeland and the most intimate beliefs... The SÂO PAULO FORUM's Warfare. It is a new form of warfare. Our country are under attack !!!
@@artofwar420 exactly. The Shining Path didn't emerge in a vacuum. It was a response--an irrational and overly violent response--to an irrational and violent situation. The people had the colonial and fascist boot on their necks for all of their historical memory. And they responded. And we can't ignore the role of the US empire in all of this.
Aha I swear you almost made me spit up my lasagna when you said“ok señor gopnik, gracias” @ 19:34. Absolute legend for learning Spanish to make that bit ever more memorable 💯🖤🤘🏽
Senor Gopnik! Dying! By the way, you descended from Cusco to Abancay, but then ascended from Abancay to Andahuaylas. Also, Cusco is already within the Amazon River Drainage Basin. It is likely that you remained within the drainage basin during the entirety of your trip, unless you went far to the west in Peru. The Ucayali is the primary tributary river that forms the Amazon River and the Ene, Apurimac, and Mantaro Rivers are some of the tributaries of the Ucayali that you were seeing during the initial part of your journey. Between them, you would find varied elevations and, therefore, variable climates and weather. 30C in Cusco is nearly impossible, since it is at an elevation of 3,400m (11,150 feet), whereas I am sure that in Abancay, at an elevation of 2,377m (7,800 feet), it is more common. Still, I imagine that perhaps you were exaggerating the temperature a bit.

You guys are characters. I met some English people from London and they thought I was crazy 🤣 I stayed in Cusco for two weeks and traveled around the Andes instead of the jungle and this was in September, best time to travel in my opinion. You guys are going in rainy season which it’s a little dangerous. Iquitos sucked when I went there 10 years ago in a rainy season, it was all muddy. The people are welcoming even when they are going through difficult times and that’s why I love Peru. Safe travels.
You're a great Vlogger and i look up to you man. Your videos are fun and authentic. There's a lot to take from them more than just entertainment. Keep doing you man! God Bless
Hey Bald! I'm from Colombia and I can say that your Spanish is very good since you can communicate effectively what you're trying to say (maybe your listening is not as good yet lol). If you're planning to come to this country I could show you around. Safe travels!
I have found that with some effort it is not too difficult to learn enough Spanish to be understood, but it takes a little more time to understand Spanish. Bald seems to have learned much more in less time than I have.
I understand spanish fairly good when reading, but listening is a whole different beast especially with the different dialects and the fact that a lot of spanish speakers talk really fast.
The problem is the dialects, the speed, the slang and many things have two or three names for them. Peanuts for example can be Mani or Cacahuates Strawberries. Fresas or Frutilla. Papaya can be Papaya or Lechosa!
Quick correction at 37:26 ‘Viva el Paro’ actually means ‘Long live the strikes/unemployment’ as opposed to the former president, whose name is actually Pedro Castillo lol. Also it would be helpful to point out that Castillo in fact tried to stage a coup d’etat against the democratic system of Peru and when it failed miserably, he attempted to flee to the Mexican embassy only to be stopped by a massive gridlock staged by the people of Lima and later imprisoned. Whilst there is a lot wrong with Peru’s establishment and its handling of the crisis, it’s important to make the full story clear here. Great video as usual though I’m looking forward to the rest of your South American adventure!
If I recall correctly, he did it to appose the fascist takeover that was doing that same thing to him. He saw the actually Coup happening and did the only thing he could to help the people.
It's amazing how hospitalibe are the people in Peru, the little girl who barely seems 5 at 17.55 said Bien Dio a ti which means good day to you. Says a lot about the culture there

This is bitter sweet to me so reminds me of my travels in Mexico back roads in 1973/5. I love your Spanish. I went to night classes to learn for a year.
Holy crap, just earlier today i was wondering what Bald is up to and noticed he hadnt uploaded in a while. AND NOW HE DOES, WHAT A GLORIOUS DAY.
Me too!
I pictured him sitting in a gulag somewhere in Southeast Asia. Nice to see Peru.
I love Peru. I live in New York but I've visited Peru 3 times and will go back many more. Its has its dangerous areas just like anywhere but overall its a nice place.
My God this is heartbreaking. I appreciate you not editing the gentleman's message towards the end. His feelings really came through.
I liked the honesty and genuine statement he was making.
This is awesome! Your Spanish has improved so much! Good work. I’m loving this pivot for the channel. Latin America is so fascinating and fun. The people are kind and friendly too. Not enough people know the history of this part of the world. So excited for this! Thank you for broadcasting these stories 💜
Mr Bald made me laugh so much this episode 😂 Thanks Bald great videos my friend!
Thanks for showing us around, Mr. Bald. As usual, you did a great job at showing the real people. You’re the best UA-cam channel there is !
I’ve been watching bald for a couple of years now and this is a video that brought much joy to me being Hispanic myself (Mexican & Honduran) seeing someone study the language and the culture by exploring it and respecting it. Love the work keep it up
I plan to go to Peru one day but I am currently vlogging from Mexico.
@@DougPVlogs dude you have touched human bones since you made this comment!
@@StukkoChonies Yes I have, my first time ever doing something like that. Thanks for watching.
@@artofwar420 It seems like the entire world is going that way. Even once free countries.
That's some story mate! What were you doing down there in the 80s?
I am having a bald and bankrupt binge watch. And loving the history and places you go.🔥

Long time viewer. My Fiancee is Peruvian and I spent 4 months there last year. Your Spanish is getting much better. I have been also learning Spanish and you doing this well is additional motivation.

These extended videos are amazing. The perfect amount of humour along with experience, history and information.

For those of us who can't afford to travel to these types of places, it is an interesting watch. Keep the videos coming Mr Bald!!!

Peanuts for example can be Mani or Cacahuates
Strawberries.
Thanks for the correction

This is bitter sweet to me so reminds me of my travels in Mexico back roads in 1973/5. I love your Spanish. I went to night classes to learn for a year. A book "The People's Guide to Mexico" added useful phrases such as how to bribe a police officer: "No hay otra vez para resolver la matera?" Looks like nothing has improved for los pobres in the intervening time. My heart goes out to those people.

ADVICE FOR ALL VISITORS COMING TO ANDEAN PERU: take a big bottle of water with you, also dont look at how high it is, just look up front, try sleeping, high altitude sickness might hit otherwise, first two days drink only soup, no sodas, then you should be good enough, im a local, i speak from experience
still, this doesnt remove the fact that the state has over 60 dead people on them and the mistreatment of locals should stop
