You can see it in their behavior end how they look. Especially the sudden over the top friendly smile when he clinks the beer. Their behavior was suspicious from the start
The shop owner saw what those two dudes were doing, and they were for sure. Taking you to a good spot to extort you. That shop owner knew what those two clowns were trying to do. While at the time it was probably frustrating, you shouldn't just brush off every person that tells you to not go. We all want the cool video, but none of us want you to get hurt or die doing it.
The Man at 34:29 is a freaken hero. He didn't have to give you no mind but saw what was happening and said "not on my watch" Gives me faith in humanity.
The shop owner is telling him he’s about to get robbed (and probably much worse) and yet at first he still wants to go and not listen to the advice of someone who knows. 30 years ago i got stabbed multiple times in the head because i had very little fear and thought i was invincible, after that incident i realised how precious life is and how things can go very wrong in just a few seconds.
One of the scariest moments of my entire life was when I was in college I did a study abroad in Buenos Aires and we were out drinking at a pub. The party ended up at some guys house in a random neighborhood and the people I was with decided to stay over. I wanted to go back to the hotel, and after hours of drinking wasn’t in the best mindset. I just left and started walking. The streets were completely dark and absolutely nobody was in the street, I was passing by boarded up houses, and had a knot in my stomach. After what felt like hours of walking past homeless people I somehow found a taxi but didn’t have enough money to get back to the main plaza in Buenos Aires. The cab driver said, “don’t worry about it, but you need to get out of here.” And took me all the way back to the hotel. I still remember that guy, and how he probably saved my life. If I ever were to run into him again, I would take him out to dinner and pay his bills for a month.
@@jene.saispasThanks!! And yes I wish I would have gotten his name or contact information, but this was before the social media age so I didn’t even think to ask. I was just so grateful, and still am. I will never forget what he did for me.
Kurt this advice is coming from a retired 40 year Federal LEO, that worked narcotics, listen to the locals, those shop owners saved your life, if you keep trying those stunts you will eventually become a victim, we want to see your videos we don’t want you rob, injured or dead. Hope to meet you someday in South Florida. Keep those videos coming. Best regards from Miami
Wow impressive CV. I ve only lived 9 months in Latin America as a backpacker, but fuck you learn quickly that the level of violence is not the same as in Europe. Cant believe he s so naïve!
UN APLAUSO PARA TODA LA GENTE QUE LE ADVIRTIÒ Y NI SIQUIERA LO DEJO ENTRAR! ESA ES TODA GENTE DE BUENO CORAZON , TERRIBLE MUESTRA DE APRECIO Y CUIDADO A UN EXTRANJERO
corner of Colibri and Espadana... even the Google Maps car avoided this street, except for both ends. in the same area on streetview; a mural mourning a dead young man and a boy scratching his nuts XD these 2 criminals didnt get to rob you, I hope they wont take it out on the shop owner who saved your naive ass.
100% the older store owner knew what those guys had in mind and did not want to see anything happen. It shows that good people are still all around in high n low places. I'd suggest to think about your surroundings and who your with next time when someone is trying to tell you don't go. Just cause you may be able to handle yourself, doesn't mean they don't have 5 guys around a corner or a gun in the pocket. None the less, LOVE the videos brother! Keep on keeping on!
There's brave and then there's stupid. I cant say all the other times have been 'safer' either, but this time just seemed like particularly bad judgement. Those people were really looking out for him. Kurt was foolishly pushing his luck here imo.
why would they want to hurt kurtis for especially if he hasnt been disrespectful or anything lol. if anything he would probably just give up the camera or whatever then go buy a new one later so maybe he feels it is worth the risk of getting content idk
This video makes me change my whole perspective about the Argentinian people. Mostly how close and similar they’re with us brazilians, the passion for football, the hard life sometimes but aways finding a way to have some good time in between the difficulties. Saludos desde Brazil Hermanos. 👍🏽
The line between being friendly and being stupidly naive is very thin. You are massively discounting risks. Good people warned you, the store owner literally had to move between you and the robbers, and your response is "They didn't even let me?"
Cómo te cuidaron Kurt…si no era por la gente que te saco a esos dos de encima, a los 5 minutos no tenías más nada. No siempre vas a tener gente honesta cerca, pregunta antes de meterte a lugares así.
The two guides were classic - one serious, almost knows he's testing his hood power, and a bit concerned about it. The other, charming and disarming as all get out. Not saying he's not a nice guy, but he's hung out with killers. Never let a great personality fool you into a sense of security in a foreign place.
For someone so street savvy I expected Kurt to know better. That first attempt into the villa almost ended in a bad situation and was only averted by the shop owner at the end insisting he not go all the way to the end. At least he smartened up and got a guide and even then, it was slightly dangerous.
I get your point, but a part of his brand is essentially putting himself in dangerous situations. And he was going that way anyway before he met those guys. A regular street smart person would never go to these areas, (or even countries) in the first place, and would research what areas to go to and which areas not to go to. Regular people who are not street smart will just wander around and explore a country or city they don't know, and that's when they end up in dangerous areas, and are shocked when something bad happens. Kurt wouldn't be that shocked if something bad happens because he probably quite aware of the risks, but he just doesn't seem to care for whatever reason, like how some people go mountain climbing without any safety gear. I don't think he should be doing it personally, but no one can legally stop him.
You said it right. He is actually not street saavy, and nothing wrong with that. You just got to know the culture and lenguage to understand when its ok and when not too. I’ve been in the villa 31 and definitely a horrible place, he regret it later you could see him sweating and even the two fixers also nervous.
@@MrReymoclif714The very start where he's joking around with the dude sitting down is obviously scripted. The 2 dudes trying to lure him somewhere to rob him and all the locals warning him was definitely not scripted.
I’d love if you could somehow repay that shop worker back for quite literally saving you. You can tell that man is a honest and caring guy living in a harsh environment and the fact he was even willing to get physical with the men just too make you realise that’s a true man right there.
@@missrotfWhat a shitty reply. The man is living in a terrible neighbourhood. Life hasn’t blessed him with shit. That’s not how the world works. Sending him money will do more than offering thoughts and prayers. Karma isn’t real or else billionaires wouldn’t exist. Such a stupid comment.
Put into perspective how even in the most dangerous places there are still good people that know when to step up to help others, as you say, that is a true man
Man in places like that you’d think that man would get good karma but I wouldn’t be surprised those robbers would try retaliate on the shop owner even get him killed. People like them are petty and cruel.
you can just see the look on the cop and other locals faces that they looked genuinely concerned. I think kurt might be suffering from complacency because hes gotten this far. He should be more vigilant next time and know when to walk the other way.
@@posteveryside-beatsnewsthat is true you can notice the Officer was aware he is not allowed to deny entrance completely but he did his best for kurt not to enter

these two guys deserve an award for there communication with each other to keep everything as safe as possible for you. they really cared the entire time
29:26-35:22 is probably one of the greatest travel content clips I have ever seen. Just watch it over and over to see how these 2 guys are acting as they walk Kurt to a very bad situation. The locals could see it and were kind enough to intervene and thwart it. Amazing to get this captured on video. Should be reviewed by every traveler or anyone who goes to seedy places (in any country).
I love how the guy spotted him talking to the cop and strolled inside to wait. Then Kurt literally immediately walks up to him lol. He’s like no way it’s this easy AND a free beer?!
Starts at more like 30:08. You can see the dogy guy without a shirt spotting Kurt then backing off into the alley when he sees him speaking to the police. Just to "casually" bump into Kurt at 30:50 thinking about how to approach Kurt.
Also the lady at 31:23 at the shop where they stopped to buy the beers told the "guides" she was watching and aware what they were doing, trying to protect Kurt from being robbed. Props to that brave lady also...
Yo soy de argentina y creo que todos se dieron cuenta de que esos dos tipos lo estaba llevando por los pasillos del barrio asta el fondo del barrio para robarle todo pero la señora fue muy buena
*Agreed, that shop owner that originally stopped you may have saved your life. Wow. He was very stern, he knew what was going on. Thank goodness you heeded his advice and left.*
The cop had warned him about the two guys earlier, it was obvious for anyone with a functioning brain. Im from Argentina and I can understand the average tourist falling for it but Kurt has travelled to unsafer places and this just demonstrates he learnt nothing at all
Yo...MAD respect to Richard and Uli(?) for constantly watching their backs and yours. You could just tell they were always on guard for your safety and making sure you weren't being followed or in immediate danger. Such huge props to them for being so caring.
Richard was extremely paranoid scanning his surroundings. You have to be on the street. Kurt was food in there and he knew it. You could tell he almost regretted it halfway though
@@ThePulaskiPumper 00:50:10 if you think Richard was paranoid look whats happend when Uli noticed 3 guys on the back. And told Richard to cover Kurt from the right. There is no jokes there at all
30:11 the way their facial expressions drop and they split immediately after greeting each other is the first red flag. Judging by the way shirtless guys friend approached him with a little slap boxing 30:09 and shirtless guys broken nose, id say he could either be an ex boxer or notorious at the very least. 30:51 shirtless guy comes back for a better look at kurt or to potentiallyfollow and ambush. Kurt has to show weakness by ignoring him or confidence by acknowledging him.Either way he has to engage. Look how uncomfortable his face looks when hes been sussed out 30:55 He wasnt expecting that, so he looks around for his friend, who comes to assist at 32:02. The warning from the shopkeepers wife is pretty chilling 31:22 she isnt telling him not to rob him, just dont do anything too serious. 31:41 dosent want his face on camera 😅 32:22 what are they saying? 34:46 this is where the shopkeeper steps in. The guys dont know what to do now, shirtless mans whole demeanour changes. He looks pissed off that hes going to lose out on that money. He even puts his arms out to create distance between Kurt and the shopkeeper. I wonder where yellow shirt guy is from the beginning? Either further down the alley. Or he didnt want to get in the way while theres work to be done. Did you like my little bullshit story? Good eh? Probably wasnt far off though
I think you're pretty damn close. I was watching these part back multiple times. The way the cop warned him (like extremely dead serious and concerned for him and hopeless that he can't do nothing else other then try to convince him not to go) and the lady when he just entered the market. And then the lady from the store coming to "warn" the local guys, knowing damn well what their plan was. Kurt has been around long enough and in so many countries that he must have noticed these red flags, I'm pretty certain. But he consciously ignores these at times for content and thinking that he would be able to get away alive and have a "nice" story to tell. I hope not, but he might end up dead if he keeps pushing it like this.
the amount of times when richard and his friend did their best to keep danger away from kurt and to make sure he was safe was so amazing. The littlest things and gesture’s definitely caught my eye , mad respect to the pair
I'm pretty surprised how almost oblivious Kurt was in this video, he usually seems pretty level headed and smart about his travels but this was wild and he almost put himself in an insane situation
@@zeddicus4885 Nah, the OP is talking about the two young guys 44:44 that were with him. Not the shirtless dude 31:03 and the other with the scarf 32:09 thing who was trying to rob him. That’s if they do it themselves at a random point… it’s more likely they were bringing him to a typical point where all the true “bad guys” chill so not only would Kurt be stuck in there but he’d be threatened with all sorts of weapons… Very likely he could end up kidnapped too if they know his identity, this world is no joke your bubble will be burst.

I have no doubt the 2 guys got paid well but you are still a brave dude kurt. That shop owner / dude that helped you what an absolute legend he is. Be safe kurt.
This one of things that blew me away about Argentina, if you travel frequently you can get a good sense of people and risk. I have found myself in many places in Argentina where locals actively watch your back : similar stories on feed. I’m from UK and the first time I visited my elderly parents said they were very concerned for my saftey. I always talk about the immigration official that stamped my passport. I have NEVER arrived in any country with such a really positive and heartfelt welcome. Every city has the usual scams and risks, but generally the people are incredibly warm and want to show you the country they are proud of. 🇦🇷
Serán siempre bienvenidos todos los que quieran hacer el bien para el país. Ingleses, estadounidenses, paraguayos, venezolanos, alemanes, no importa de dónde vengan. Si quieren hacer el BIEN las puertas siempre abiertas.
Every ghetto has bad people. But i noticed for every bad person 10 people are good in other countries. In American ghettos, you might get filmed at the most but most don't care.
He is making money out of this...if he does the same in the U.S he won't make the same amount of money? Or followers? Saint Louis , MI must be a good place to start
A kid, a police, a grandma, and 4 different store owners said to not go but Kurt almost kept going 😂. It’s great to see the desire for good content but the most important thing is to be absolutely safe while doing it.
i tried some nasty hoods in the Philippines , its as cut throat like as in Argentina or Columbia or Brazilian hoods . Super narrow streets , tiny houses packed with sexe girls , tuktuks ( trikes ) are the only way to get inside that nervous area . But , without any local protection , i went in for 3 hours & came out intact .
No ones gonna rob you in broad daylight or in crowded place in the Philippines or at least the chances is low, don't make it sound like the Philippines is an unsafe place.. When you're friendly everyone's gonna be friendly to you too.
That whole scene lol. I dont think he realised but i saw 4 people who looked like they were in on it including the two obvious ones. And there was a serious shift in the atmosphere when he went too deep.
the first and oldest cousin has his stuff down eyes everywhere, knows where to seat you and stays up front. His comportment and eyes are the real measure of the danger in that hood. Good choice, you where lucky to team ip with these dudes, they stood up for you. they deserve respect for caring !
I love how everybody keeps saying its super dangerous there, you'll be robbed, killed, etc. And when these two sketchy drunks come and wanna take you somewhere you have never been before and have no idea where it is theyre really taking you, a shopowner notices and is like hey you bums get tf away from him, yo dude those bums are gonna set you up to get robbed or worse man. And your first conclusion is "oh man im not allowed to hang out here"
It’s funny cause when he first met the first dude the lady that knew him told him to be careful what he does probably meaning he’s caused a lot of shit already like he has done it to others before
Richard and Uli are legends!! Kurt was with the best to touring one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Richard must be one of the big guys in Villa 31.
I'm going to speak from the place of a native argentinian that felt like passing out every single time you put yourself in a dangerous situation: if you're a tourist don't feel timid, the locals will understand your situation and try to welcome you.. but also, know your place and understand what you're doing. if someone experienced tells you to not do something, you DON'T do it. I'm glad you didn't get hurt during the filming of this video, but IF something happened (not only to you, but your guides too) then all the argentinians would have to feel ashamed, but you know what? they were telling you the entire time DON'T DO THIS, DON'T DO THAT, and you didn't listen. good content, bad decisions. 👍🏻
True because when something happens to him everyone will point a dirty finger at Argentina, like everyone in Argentina is evil, not knowing he literally stubbornly walked himself into a lion's den
the shame is a country were personal integrity and private property mean nothing and where crime roams freely on every corner. Argentina is definitely not part of the western civilization, despite all it's whiteness and Catholicism. failed failed country.
Yeah I don't think Kurt understands that in a lot of these hoods, "they're going to rob you" more or less means they're going to stab you to death and run your pockets. He was pretty much a few hundred steps away from dying. I grew up in one of the worst hoods in the USA, I know how it goes. With a big dude like Kurt they're not going to take any chances of letting him fight back. He would've either been stabbed or shot. Stay safe out there Kurt.

A lot of these UA-camrs, I mean this with total respect, are more naive than anything. And it sucks that it puts locals in danger for a myriad of reasons even after these UA-camrs get their footage and leave.

I really liked Richard and his cousin. They did a great job keeping Kurt alive and well, while also explaining interesting stuff. You could really see it. I am from Latin America and I can confirm that there are a lot of places in here that are truly dangerous. If locals are warning you about something you should pay attention. This guy got lucky that people were kind enough to warn him. In other places, nobody would have ever warned him, and things could have gone worse.

This is too crazy for words. When people warn you, you listen. Even the so called "escorts" were apprehensive. Their walking got quicker as they went along to get out. Many thanks to the man who stopped what could have been a one way trip.
The escorts were apprehensive?!?!? What video did you watch? The shop owner was pretty drunk and told him not to continue. Exactly! I’m from Toronto and been lucky to travel extensively, and like, Kurt, explored and partied w locals on their turf, and my paranoia likely saved my life. The instant the vibe changed I would dip. Those two 100% were bringing him to be robbed. Itf b g’s not about being tough, in fact if, Kurt, fought back at all they wouldn’t think twice to hurt/kill him. The man I’m sure is an old criminal and knew the kids/junkies would rob him and it would make it hot and slow the main gangs businesses down. Those two junkies were spinners and would simply pretend they were helping him to the stream
I don't know how more people aren't picking up on this. Richard has clearly robbed people and he has connections with several people that would have otherwise robbed him. 50:20 He calls off 2 of his boys that were going to rob Kurt. If Kurt had not gotten in touch with Richard and paid him for a tour Richard would have robbed had he had the chance.
The two guys that were walking with Kurt were going to rob him, I could tell by their behavoir, they were being secretive when talking to each other, and when they faced Kurt, they would attempt to smile and talk pleasantly in an attempt to gain trust, but it was so insincere and fake. Easy to spot most people with bad intentions, it will just feel sketchy.
El mismo tendero lo sabía. No dijo, alguien puede robarte o alguien va a robarte. Dijo sencillamente van a robarte (refiriéndose a los dos personajes) Ellos dos eran los que iban a robarte...
The Kurt guy kind of felt it, his voice was not relaxed but he was falling for the thieves game making feel he might be safe with them after all, like when you don't have another option but go on, the old man really saved him, even after that moment he still sounded nervous because he knew he screw up
Actually when they were talking between the two who were with him, he was first telling the other one "he's with me, don't get involved", but not in a good way, it was like a threat.
50:09 after the friend gesturing the other to go to Kurt's side you can see 2 guys on bikes that were following, when Richard takes notices he signals them and you can notice how they just stop and just turn to a street, so they were obviously following Kurt
The cousins that escorted you around were smart, you had one available to be talkative and able to answer your questions and just shoot shit with you then you had the other on “go mode” and be super aware of your alls surroundings and keeping his head on a swivel. So great thing you had them. The first two you met that you bought beer were going to take u somewhere they knew best and probably trap you and rob you and possibly kill you. And everyone you walked past were saving ur life
Being a buenos aires native i can't depict how lucky this guy was, the sheer stupidity of ignoring the locals is outstanding, later the production clearly paid for a secure tour with the primos.

Theres another little moment from 50:12 after they bought the beer with the 2 guys on the bike where Richard notices and you see his defense rise then he waves at them later saying its all good so they turn back to the corner. Richard´s cousin was full alert. He said to Richard: "You stand on the other side". And then Richard saw the bike guys and said: "Hey, everything is o.k."
If you ask someone "is that your husband?", then it is not out of place for them to tell you " I dont have a husband". You assumed it, so she clarified what you literally asked. There is no need to whisper in a different language "i didnt ask" since you actually did. Then its rude to offer a woman a drink and whisper to yourself that she may have herpes. 1:12:14
Go to the settings option of the video and drop the playback speed down to 0.25. 50:02: Richard's friend has the Eye's of an Eagle and immediately spots trouble heading their way. 50:11 to 50:12: I don't speak Spanish, but even I could tell Richards friend tells Richard -"Protect the other side of Kurt". 50:18 to 50:20: The guy wearing the yellow and dark grey shirt starts signaling to Richard to ask him if Kurt is free game. He's asking Richard if Kurt is open for anyone to take or use; unclaimed, and up for grabs. An animal to be hunted. He solidifies his inquiry by throwing a thumbs up sign to ask " Yes, or No? ". 50:20 and 50:21: Richard answers back by gesturing "STOP". 50:21 and 50:22: The guy wearing the yellow and dark grey shirt puts his arm and hand out to touch the other guy wearing the salmon pink and light grey shirt. He physically (and literally) motions him to abandon the pursuit. Meanwhile, Kurt is obviously aware that 'something' is going on around him. But I genuinely don't think that he actually has ANY firm cognizant understanding of how imminently life threatening these 20 seconds were for him. Everyone seems to keep commenting on how dangerous the first 30 -35 minuets of his video was. But in my opinion those 5 minuets were just child's play in comparison to the critical 20 split seconds listed above.
I'm from Argentina and live in a similar place, a slum in the south limit of the city, the absolute stress I felt seeing every single hint of danger, they are far too many to count. Kurt was lucky.
Kurt, I don't know if you know this, but you are doing an incredible thing by showing the world how other people live. Not only is it interesting, but all humans need to understand that we are all connected in this strange thing called life. The more we understand each other, the more we will love one another.
Those guys Kurt was walking with in the city with the beers looked REALLY sketchy to me with how they were behaving and being overly friendly with him. I'm glad the store owner stepped in and saved him likely from being a victim of a crime. Gives me hope for humanity. Travel, have fun, be aware of people and surroundings. Cool episode!
They literally blabbed to each rougling say "how much longer till we walk are we gonna rob him?" They also first saw him at 30:10 when he was talking to the officer and pretened like it was their first time seeing him in the store

Glad you're safe, the tension I am feeling behind my laptop is thick. Such places hide fugitives and walking around with a camera might expose the hideouts, same as in South Africa, some places are very dangerous and when you're not known you might not make it out. Stay Safe
If a local specifically say “do this…” “ don’t do that..” take it as if it were law. I understand wanting to explore places and learn about people, but I have seen several travelers doing stupid things to make themselves interesting in their videos, is a form of ego, exposing themselves to unnecessary situations just for views. And promoting going to a place or recording such things is irresponsible but is ‘cool’ because the risk makes it fun!

30 years ago i got stabbed multiple times in the head because i had very little fear and thought i was invincible, after that incident i realised how precious life is and how things can go very wrong in just a few seconds.
Why did this happen to you?

I'm going to speak from the place of a native argentinian that felt like passing out every single time you put yourself in a dangerous situation:
if you're a tourist don't feel timid, the locals will understand your situation and try to welcome you.. but also, know your place and understand what you're doing. if someone experienced tells you to not do something, you DON'T do it.
Exactly. I don't understand why he kept on insisting on going further although he got warned many times by the locals.
@ChonHaokip286 he has done it so many times in the hoods and the locals warn him and still does it and nothing happens

Those two junkies were spinners and would simply pretend they were helping him to the stream

Theres another little moment from 50:12 after they bought the beer with the 2 guys on the bike where Richard notices and you see his defense rise then he waves at them later saying its all good so they turn back to the corner. They were most likely informed about you and were sent or went on their own to see what theu can get out of you. You were being sold the whole time you were walking around.
he was marked the moment he talked to the policeman. notice how the shirtless crook stands around with his ear turned towards the conversation while pretending like he's minding his own business. notice how he sends his friend off, and then halfway across the alley that scarf-wearing, "cool hip guy" vibes crook pops up. clearly gang stalking. the shirtless one who can barely utter a sentence and the kid in the sports shirt hanging around at the alley entrance act as the scouts. once a victim is selected one of them engages and the other goes alert the remaining gang members.
