The Vincent episode is one of the best Dr Who episodes ever. I cry every time. It's so beautiful and realistic (oddly enough for a show about a two-hearted time-traveling shapeshifting alien in a dimension-distorting sentient spaceship) in that he still ends the same way he always did, but at least he got to have those tears of joy when he sees himself and hears the curator speak of his work in reverent tones. He was not mentally ill because he was sad, he was sad because he was mentally ill, and there is no external happiness that could take that away, but it's no less beautiful a thought that he got to know how much he mattered to the whole world forevermore.
Hiya - yes, I watched it many times and it's always gets to me! ... I'm such a big fan of him and his work!
He’s one of my favorites. I’m gonna give a Van Gogh style painting a shot now thanks to you, so thank you!
Exactly! This is the only episode I watched of this series and I cried my eyes out because - if only he knew how brilliant he was! I think he was way ahead of his time. When impressionism was still at its peak, he almost painted expressionistic or lets say post-impressionistic. The time was not ready yet for vincent.
And I think Paul here captured his legacy beautifully ❤ thanks for this great video!
Van Gogh is one of my favorites. His use of color is so exciting 💚💜💙
agree with that!!!
@@ArtbyPaulClark I am reading the letters to Theo now. Who new he was such an eloquent writer 📝💜💜💚💚
Thank you very much Paul for the lessons! and I love the drawings of the band members so much! I am happy that I was accepted there. There is a wonderful atmosphere in this group. it helps to fight fear and learn to draw freely.
Wonderful! many thanks!
First class...the comments about gaps and wobbly lines is really interesting, what isn't there is just as important as what is.
Well said!
Thank you for telling us about the video "Loving Vincent". I watched it immediately. So sad for him.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was so enjoyable to watch. Van Gogh's painting style is so wonderful. One of the reasons I loved Robert Daughter's work was because it was Van Gogh-ish.
Glad you enjoyed it
much thanks for this; bringing back vincent. always a tear wells up.
my pleasure ...and same with me!
Love this painting! Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists!
Thanks… me too 😁
Very nice painting. I think it’s amazing that his letters were saved for so long.
Yes, they are such a wonderful insight!
Thanks for showing the work of the holiday group. There are some very good paintings. I’m impressed.
Thank you too!
This has to be one of your best tutorials and a great example of what is possible to use UA-cam for education. I am in awe of all that you do so generously to teach us so much. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! - I'm so pleased you like it!
So interesting to paint Vincent's style in watercolor. I must give it a go! Thank you, as always!
Those words don't send shivers down my spine. Even you just saying them has me shedding a tear. When listening to Don I weep buckets. 😢
I know what you mean Angela! 😢
@@ArtbyPaulClark I just hope I persevere with my effort, Vincent is the only master that has made me want to be artistic. I'm not sure I'm making sense? I have 3 living of course you and the Devon artist whom I know you have mentioned and a lady watercolorist. I'm still desperately trying to find my "style". To be able to just do it! I'm trying my best to incorporate your challenges into the little group I go to. Unfortunately it was suggested that August would be charcoal!!! 😂 It is wheels too so I'm practicing for Margo's "get on ya bike" 😘🖌️🎨🖍️👍
I've always wanted to paint a Vincent piece in water color, but had no idea how. Thank you Paul for sharing this masterpiece!
My pleasure 😊
vincent , you live in our heart
Yup - the man was a genius!
What a wonderful episode. Many thanks.
Thanks Lou!
I don't think I've ever burst out laughing in a tutorial before. Thanks for these lighthearted moments in what has been a dreich day here in nz.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely... interesting that there's no Ultramarine in the palette. Glad you're still posting tutorials here, they're such an inspiration. Thank you!
Oh Paul this was such a lovely way to honor Vincent. You have done a beautiful job and i really like your idea of a book. Well done. Thank you for sharing. It's always a pleasure to watch you paint.
Thank you kindly
Thank you for another great tutorial, and yes the episode of Dr. Who and Vincent is one of the best.
Glad you think so!
I like Van Gogh so much (who doesn't?). Your watercolor made a beautiful tribute to him and, of course, serves as an inspiration for us. I will try to do this exercise. Thanks for your teachings.
Thank you! Cheers!
I love that song as well. My husband used to sing it all the time.
I do not believe I have ever seen a youtube video as beautiful as this- humour, art, history, with a theme for a novel! You are unique, talented and soft. Absolutely beautiful.
So pleased you enjoyed it Dali - it's one of my favourite videos too!
You put lots of hard work to show tribute and lots of thanks for mentioning lovin Vincent.after all that's my last name and first name of a greatest artist
It's my pleasure - thanks!
He is my favorite...NEXT TO YOU!!! Thanks, dear Paul.
Mine too! - cheers J Lol!
This could be your best tutorial ever. Thank you very much
Glad you think so! - thanks!
Paul your tutorials are always wonderful but this one is a simply phenomenal. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Dear Mr Van Clark,
I thought it impossible to paint a Van Gogh style h2o color, but you and the group have done it. This will inspire all of us to Gogh for it.
Thanks.
Thank you! Cheers! - love that 'Gogh for it'.
As always, it was a joy to watch you paint.
Thanks so much!
I don't bother to paint or draw myself (other than very mechanical drawings of microscopic subjects) but watching these videos has enhanced my perception of the world around me. Now I often look at things as if in anticipation of drawing or painting them and this seems to make me more observant.
That's good to hear Tom!
What delicious fun! I feel a series coming on--been very uninspired for 4 mos. This has changed it all! Thank you.
You are so welcome!
Well that Dr Who scene made me cry.
Me too - seen it 8 times now!
You make the tutorials so entertaining, I loved the conversation part between you and Van Gogh😄 , the 'left ear' near the glass of Absinthe in the materials scene and of course the anecdotes about the Master. All these details and humour make Paul Clark Tutorials, unique and the best ! 😃👍
Thank you! 😃 so nice of you to say!
Thank you for this omage to a magnificient artist from a great artist and a very worm and generous soul. I will watch your videos over and over again, allways finding something new and i will have a laugh in dark moments.
Wow, thank you Raluca!
When I lived in Paris in 1968 I would go to the impressionistic museum and spend hours there. They had the original bed and chair set up.
Great story - thanks for sharing!
You should've been granted a cameo in the Dr. Who episode. Thank you for this video. It was lovely.
Thanks Scott - Lol!!!
Wow a gorgeous tribute to one of my favorite artists. I love 💕 the Dr. Who episode of Van Gogh too. Great series Dr. Who. Great fun painting. Thanks for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it Colleen!
This was wonderful as always. Your analysis of Vincent's painting was very enlightening. Thank you. 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your sense of humor and your paintings. I'm always thrilled to see another video is available.

my favorite dr. who episode! you did an excellent job on your watercolor version of this piece, thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Cheers!
I have not painted from your tutorial at least a couple of months (nothing personal just work has caught me lately, lol), but when I saw this tutorial I knew I had to give it a go, so inspirational and your admiration for Vincent work has made this tutorial special! My first Van Gogh.... Thank you again for your dedication to what you love to do! It surely has inspired a lot of us!
Glad I could help! -thanks

Thank you for your watercolor demonstration of Vincent’s painting. You describe your technique so well. I want to try it.
Thank you so much!
Very successful! And that's my very favorite episode of Doctor Who.
Cheers - mine too!
Thank Paul for doing such a
I just loved this. He is one of my favorites. I can’t wait to try this. I stopped the video to listen to the Don McLean song. Wow Beautiful tribute. I never heard that song before. Thanks so much for sharing all your photos too. It was great to see those places. Thanks again!
I really enjoyed watching you paint and your narrative about visiting Vincent with the good news , thank you Xoxo
Glad you enjoyed it
Came across this when looking for another PDF. It is wonderful and I love Vincent. As a beginner I couldn't do this but love watching you paint. Something to aspire to. Thanks.
You're very welcome!
Always look forward to Paul Clark Wednesdays. This week was exceptional - thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed it Cathy!
This was a incredible video and inspired me. Just listening to you talk about Vincent is reminding me that I should learn more from the masters. I love the painting and often feel this way is the way I have always wanting to paint, thank you
Wonderful! - delighted to help!
A lovely tribute to Van Gogh...reminded me of the visit to his museum. He was really an enigma!
Sure was - thanks Seema!
Just love your 'Vincent' treatment result in this video. The added commentary and history so added to the story of Vincent. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure Julie!
Thank you for showing this painting as I love Van Gogh art;
I have painted many painting of Van Gogh but have only started water color. You have given me so much incouragment and look forward to do painting that are different from other painters
My pleasure 😊
Very good job Paul, you have managed to capture the essence of Vincent in your watercolor. Congratulations !!!
Thank you so much 😀
Love this wc approach to my favorite artist. Hope to try this.
Go for it!
Grazie Paul per la versione van Gogh riuscita splendidamente
Grazie too Gemma!
Enjoyed this so much, thank you 😊💗😊
You’re welcome 😊
You are a delight and an inspiration!
Thank you! 😊
Brilliant painting! If I didn't know better, I'd think it was a lost treasure in Vincent's Art bag!!
And absolutely loved the commentary about Vincent. In High School, I took Art Class every year, never did we get to hear such personal details about Vincent's life. It was wonderful! Thank you!
Oh! And the chair fall, hilarious! You're a character, I love it!!
Lol - great comment - thanks!
Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Vincent, in the form of your gorgeous painting and the amazing event. I have loved Vincent since my teenage days, collected and read all the books on him and his art that were available at that time. Some things that you said in this video, the perfect music choice, the line from the Don McLean song, the sensitivity of this entire video and your painting made me choke up, so much emotion. Thank you for the reminder of so many precious things that I care about 💙
Wow - lovely comment - Thank you very much!
Bonsoir Paul, merci pour vos tutos. Toujours aussi intéressant. je suis novice en aquarelle et grâce à vous en deux ans je progresse doucement. milles mercis. 🤩😉
Merci aussi!
I watched this for the third time, lovd it(again)
Great to hear - probably my favourite video!
Thank you for this fabulous and inspirational tutorial.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing painting Paul and a fine tribute to Van Gough! The range of your artistic versatility never ceases to amaze and impress! Well Done - Cheers!
Thank you! Cheers Rob!
Nice T-shirt with the paintings design….thanks for the refresher on Vincent….expressive colourful painting that captures the essence of Vincent..even though his paintings looked”naive” they are anything but…there is a lot of artistic intuitive thought behind them as with any artist
Thank you! Cheers! - totally agree!
Simply glorious! Don McClean’s “Vincent” has always been a favorite of mine. I have seen every movies video, etc. that I could find on Vincent. The video/movie you mentioned, created by artists is also a favorite of mine.
Thanks for sharing, yes, it's a great film!
Found the Don McLean song quite by accident and i fell in love with the song. Which caused me to seek out Van Gogh's works, and fell in love with Art. Great job on this, thought the trees and foliage on the left was as if he painted them
Thanks a lot - very kind!
Wonderful! Love your humor and energy. You make it fun!
Thanks for watching!
absolutely loved doing that. thank you so much.
You're so welcome!
I love Vincent and i like your paint. Thank Sir.
Thanks so much!
That is beautiful. Thank you.
Oh my very favorite artist and the movie Loving Vincent is breathtaking. I have a giclee print of one of the paintings from the movie and I find my eyes resting on it so often during the day. It's getting late now and my eyes are tired so I'll delay trying my hand at painting like Vincent tomorrow. Many thanks for such an inspiring class.
That's great to hear ... and my favourite too!
Hi, Paul, I finally got time to try one of Van Gogh's great piece - Cafe Terrace at Night. I have to say I only found what is like to observe things in Van Gogh's eye and the amazing angle you see things. Glad I have tried though , as it is really beneficial.
Sounds great! Thanks for sharing 😁
Ha. I immediately said out loud, "It's been done. Dr Who." And yes, the end scene is a tear jerker. This is a beautiful tribute to Vincent. I would have never thought to attempt his style in watercolor. Bravo.
Thanks for this and glad you spotted the Dr. Who connection!
Wow a wonderful tribute and LOL absinthe moment. X
I hope you weren't hurt when you tipped your chair over! I can't believe the lengths you go to entertain us sometimes. I confess, although I was concerned about your wellbeing, I did laugh out loud. Also, this episode's T-shirt is extra special. As many others have said very well, it was a beautifully done episode and wonderful painting. Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it and no serious injuries - only to my pride!!! lol!
Impressive! Thank you for uploading this tutorial video and for sharing your drawings/painting skills and techniques 🙏
You have gotten perfectly the spirit of Van Gogh paintigs. Absolutely fantastic!
Thank you so much 😀
Absolutely beautiful. Very very close to the original. You make it look so easy Paul. I hope mine turns out like this as well.
And you must write a book. You have great imagination , as you teach us during your tutorials. I think you will write a great book 👍
Thank-you , for these lovely tutorials. I loved the brush stroke details you did 👌🙏💖
Many thanks!
Loved your Vincent watercolor....beautiful.
Thanks so much 😊
Wow ! This is amazing and absolutely breathtaking! Love them and Thanks Paul! The paintings at the end are so inspiring! You have interpreted Vincent in such a sprecial way and so well! I am so impressed!
Thank you so much 😀
@@ArtbyPaulClark Thank you Paul. Yesterday ( at the time I left the first comment) that is when I browsed from the end of your tutorial video ( I usually watched from the end from a habit) . You can tell my excitement when I first see those wonderful paintings you have posted. Today I reviewed back to the beginning and through the tutorial and found something sparkling, most appealing. That song lyrics in the “Loving Vincent” when you mentioned in your video I would like to say that I have the exact same feeling when I first watched the movie ( chill on the spine) , extremely sadness, extreming inspiring and intriguing and wondering was the feeling when I first saw the movie ( I watched 5 times since). That about how ‘you sketched the trees and danfodil, in colour on snow and in the land,”’with the eyes of darkness of my soul”, “now I understand what you try to say to me, Vincent, how you suffered for your sanity, how you try to set them free”’they would not listen, they don’t know how” about “this world is not meant for someone as beautiful as you”. Yes today ( as you mentioned in the video): we wanted to let Vincent know what a great artist he was yet he could not know, he could not hear.
Thank you Paul for once again bringing Vincent to us and interprete so well.
You are brilliant and inspirational! Vincent is my favorite artist. I'm looking forward to painting this scene. Thanks for the demo!
Thank you so much 😀 ... he's mine too!
Gracias por este Precioso video, un excelente homenaje a Vincent. Gracias también por la recomendación de"Loving Vincent". 😉
Love the video Paul! God bless you always.
Thank you kindly
Your story wish for Vincent is shared, and you've done him proud. His wavy lines indicating motion, and line and wash technique are most intriguing to me. It seems he was trying to think out of the box, even back then. Such genius.
Thanks so much Bonnie - glad you enjoyed it!
Just lovely. 👍👍👍
This was so much fun. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Chapeau l’artiste! Un superbe rendu d’aquarelle à la Van Gogh. Cela donne une grande envie d’essayer🙏🙏
Merci Josiane!
One of your best tutorials ever- thanks for the laughs and the poignant insights into this artist.
Thank you for sharing your talent.
My pleasure 😊
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for an inspiring tutorial. Your videos are much appreciated.
So nice of you
Brilliant tutorial. I also watched the Dr. Who clip and listened to the song, "Vincent". Thank you. Your tutorials are really fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it Joanne!
You probably won't see this but.. Thank you for this video! I really love van Gogh but I kind of only know watercolor.. I was wondering how to use it and make is as magical as van's paintings. Your video was captivating and that's means a lot as someone with ADHD. Anywho, keep it up. Love from Canada
Amazing!
Thanks!
Loved the Dr Who clip
Great to hear - I've only watched it 8 times!
