Just want to say thank you. This summer I decided it was time to really delve into landscape painting. I found your videos on trees (yay) and then went on to your previous 5 videos on skies so essential to landscapes. You are a fabulous teacher and an amazing artist!
I love how with slashes of colors applied in layers you managed to give your painting loads of cohesion while keeping a very clean spectacular look. Blending at its very best. Thank you for sharing! Really appreciate it!
This was a wonderful lesson, on restraining the value of colors, I tend to always do it too dark, this made me stop and think about the lighter end of my colors and not deepening them, but keeping to those warm and cool lighter values... thanks I really enjoyed this lesson and look forward to the next one!!!
Thanks Olly, you have transformed the way I now paint. I have gone from painting amateur cartoon looking pictures to paintings that look how I want to paint them and people admire them. I no longer keep my pictures hidden in the back of the cupboard!
Don't have anything more inspiring than the comments you have already received except to parrot some of them. Thank you for sharing your videos and insight. Poole Harbor1 was a game-changer for me in the sky department! Your paintings are fabulously eye-pleasing. Happy birthday and many more, as a chocolate lover I can appreciate your new palate. Maybe we'd have a lot more watercolorist with palettes like that! Enjoy!!
Thank you so much for sharing your sky techniques. I have heard the painters say that you must put in the sky in one go....and I could never see how I could do that with a complicated sky composition. Your two step method looks like it would do the trick. So again, thank you.
Thank you for your generosity in producing such helpful instructional videos Ollie. Your approach is one I connect with and in this video your thoughts on muting colours from the reality were thought provoking and the demonstration clearly shows it works fabulously.
I’m so glad someone suggested your videos to me. Your technique of layering the sunrises and sunsets is extremely helpful. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you and happy birthday!
Hi Oliver, I have a confession to make i watched your video yesterday after a heavy lunch and found the piano background music so soothing i nodded off and missed most of it, so after a second viewing i found this really valuable information which i will try and put into practice. I recently have taken up watercolour painting and have used your videos as a reference for my knowledge but it hasn't taken me long to realise that put brush to paper is the only real way to learn (mistakes and all) thank you for posting these videos.
Happy birthday, Oliver! I love the new pallette, what yummy looking pigments!! May the year ahead bring you many inspiring adventures!! Thanks for helping us capture some of the beauty. Cheers and best wishes! 🎁💐🌞
My goodness, what wonderful information about the landscape. I have a broken arm and will spend this time resting while I watch your videos. Can’t wait to apply this to paper.
This video is so helpful. I'm an early riser, living on a lake seeing beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I plan to paint a sunrise scene from a photo I recently took so thank you! And a belated happy birthday!
I just came to your channel here after a commenter on another artist’s channel recommended you. Well ! Your videos are absolutely wonderful and I am so glad they recommended you . I love your descriptions and explanations here and look forward to watching all your videos on this channel. Love Virgos !!! 🤗🥳🥳
Oliver, you are a fantastic teacher! Thank you so much for your generosity and time given to us, sharing your craft! My partner and I are new to Watercolours and your excellent content is so inspiring. We are improving already after only a few weeks of discovering you and having so much fun learning this media. We can't thank you enough! 😊😊
Olly, amazing. I just want to absorb your technique. The luminescence in it is incredible. I need to find more ways to practice the kind of layered glazing that you do. Thank you so much for sharing this.
Very Happy Birthday! Every one of your videos teaches me so very much, and you inspire me to take the time to plan more and to rush in less, and to really LOOK at my landscape before choosing what to paint. Many Thanks!
I'm only two minutes in and I'm nodding my head in agreement! I have not bothered to paint from some photos I have because I thought they'll never look real - thank you for this!! I love your work and your videos 😃
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I would be interested to see how the next stage would progress, without the trees looking like they’re ‘stuck on’. I noticed that in your paintings the trees have the raking light of the sunset/ sunrise. Happy birthday 🎂
I haven't been on here for a few months, your health seems to have really improved more relaxed and happy, something good has happened. As always your painting are stunning and you are brilliant.
Olly, je vous adore depuis la France, vous êtes talentueux et pédagogue, bref un très bon professeur. Mille mercis pour tous vos cours 😅que je regarde assidûment Martine
I painted the sunset today. It was challenging for me to use restraint. Turned out OK, though. Next I will paint the sunrise. My goal is to paint more like you!!
Thank you for such a helpful information packed video. I think the main thing I have learned from this is that watercolour is a soft medium and therefore it is best when it is used for more subtle skies. Also I realise that I’m too impatient. As you demonstrated, use layers to build up the soft colours in the skies. Superb teaching! Thank you!
Thank you for this excellent lesson/film, I watched it twice and the second time had a go at the landscapes myself. I appreciated being able to follow along at a slow pace and the clarity and precision of your explanations. Another favorite thing with me about this educational film is limiting colours to three primaries. Personally I get a lot less stress when I’m working this way rather than with a lot of colours whose interactions I’m not experienced enough to predict or manage. Thank you and a belated happy birthday.
Thank you so much. This is one of the best tutorials I have come across. Tried both of them and though I have a long way to go doing landscapes I am so optimistic after doing today's exercise.
Oliver I have just discovered your amazing tutorials in the last few days, and I have say WOW! I am so Bloody! excited, I started doing online classes beginning of this year, like the ones you described and got stuck with doing subjects and styles with the follow along technique that I didn't like. As a retired clothing designer who started my career designing everything in pencil, pen, ink and paints then transitioned to computers, I have definitely lost my touch. I am in Australia right on the beach so I can already see potential on landscapes just across the road that I am dying to work on. Thank you Thank You Thank You and Happy New Year. Maria
Happy birthday Oliver!🎉 For a second there, I wondered why the chocolate palette had similar looking paints 😂 Thought it was one of those shimmery paints
Hello Oliver I am in total love with my rigger lol. I've pritty much watched every video and love every minute I have learnt so very much from you and thank you for your tutorials I totaly live painting although I am finding something hard But enjoy doing the trees and what a difference from when I started to know . Thank you
Happy Birthday Ollie! I find your tutorials clear, easy to understand, though it will take me many many practices to do the same. P.S. I like chocolate pigments too 😂

I'm so excited to learn about painting the skies. What a great series this has been!
Just what I needed, thank you. Been pondering how to approach this after some lovely sunsets here over Yorkshire moors.

You are a very skilful and inspiring tutor. Living in West Sussex, I recognise most of your locations and thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I’m in Texas. The bright sunset looks perfect to me. I’m sorry you don’t have BRIGHT sunsets. Love the teaching you do. Thanks. 33:21

Thanks for helping us navigate this difficult subject.
Thank you so much- another brilliant and inspiring tutorial.
Thankyou for sharing your beautiful sky’s I have never used Naples yellow in sky’s I am going to try happy birthday
You will love it! Naples yellow makes nice greys when mixed with blue, so you never get those annoying greens in your sky 😊
