Instead of a thumb down, just put a comment like not my kind of music but well played? This man played awesomely 👌
I just arrived home from a memorial service held today for Kay. It closed with this song -- "Tea for Two" -- recorded by Kay. How nice to be able to remember him by watching and listening to this!
Magnificent. Rest in peace Kay McAbee.
Is he no longer with us?.... So sad
He was a magnificent and talented music maker!
Kay was his own show! Having met him many times is the Chicago area. No one could match him for showmanship. Great person!
Back in the mid-60s, I attended many a Kay McAbee concert at the Rialto Theatre, Joliet, IL. His performances always combined great showmanship with gentle....and often humorous....commentary. My organ teacher at the time, Faye Wheeler, often sang his praises. We miss you, Mr. McAbee.
The sound of a theatre Organ is always something else. Thanks for sharing.
Well, This is music that makes me feel good..
Listened this for years once in a while, bringing me really in this bright, swingy mood... To me Theater Organ means Kay McAbee... Rest in Peace...
It was wonderful to meet Kay when he was up here in Wisconsin several years back. He was another one of the few "greats" who will never be replaced. I play Tea For Two but to be sure- nothing like Kay played it. There are musicians like me who can do OK and get by. A musician like Kay was is someone who is endowed with that special sparkle that sets them far-far above the so-so players. I sure wish I had it but then again I so enjoy listening to those who can play like Kay did.
You are sorely missed Kay. Between this, Cherokee and Ol' Man River, I'm about blown away. You were fabulous. My wish is that you rest easy.
Always some magic about a theatre organ. Played properly as here even more magical.
As a Las Vegan as well as a organist, what a thrill to hear this very talented man before his passing. A special thanks to Phil Maloof for arranging for this man to play his great Kimball organ.
Jerry
What a cool guy. This is going into my favourites.
considering most people would not even know how to turn this thing on...I think he is a "rock god".....sent chills sooo good!
A heartwarming performance by a golden musician on a golden instrument - all from a golden age. Rest in Peace Kay
This video reminds me of my dad... I still have my fathers 1960 Hammond B-3 organ, although he's gone in 2004. No one famous, but in my mind,he was!!! I'm a HVAC mechanic, not an organist... I miss him, and the joy of that sound he produced!
After the intro, and you know it's coming, the first few notes always blow me away.
This extraordinarily talented gentleman sadly passed away 8th January 2012, aged 81. Requiescat in pacem aeternam...
Absolute Bravo! So wonderful ! Reminds me of the old days when we as kids would go roller skating to this kind of fun organ music! Kay McAbee was one of the greats and thank God for this technology that allows us to enjoy his talent even today! RIP Kay
Shout out to Kay McAbee, he truly is a master of the theatre organ.
I think I watch this more than any other video on UA-cam. Simply fantastic to watch this man conjuring another time in history through his knowledge of this instrument. RIP
I think that this theater organ was the ancestor of the synthesizer used now. The human being who created that was a genius and also the player we see now. Thank you for the beautiful music you offer.
I had the good fortune to spend an evening with Kay after a concert in Kansas City. This man was full of music and full of stories. He played with "both sets." He is missed by all of us in the theatre organ world--in fact, the music world in general.
Great player , Great music , from a great time , gone forever !
Vincent Jones But not forgotten which is a great thing for us 👍
Absolutely awesome, like a one man band, i remember as a boy the organists at the cinemas in the 60s.
That's essentially what a theatre organ is, bmwnasher - a one-man band / orchestra! :-) They do NOT make 'em like THIS anymore!!
I miss the days of hearing these great organists at Kitts music stores in malls across the DC MD VA area
Oh so do I! A sad shame that malls don’t have organ and piano stores in them much anymore. If ever.
I could listen to this all day! Amazing performance by the amazing and talented Kay McAbee, R.I.P.
This man truly knew his way around a theatre organ. He's one of the old-time and all-time greats. What a treasure to have this video of him before his passing. Thanks!
One of the most beautiful renditions....serious....!! Chapeau...!!
Always wonderful to hear and see musicians who have been 'in the business' for years and whose communication skills are as vital as ever!
Bravo, and play on at the great organs in Heaven!
Beautiful! Rip Kay McAbee; keep playing that heavenly music for God and His heavenly hosts! :-)
Awesome, Great, Fantastic ! It opens my Heart !!
I wish my Granddad was still alive, he was a not thaught but very good piano and church organ player... I'm sure watching something like this would thrill him as I do (or make him jealous maybe, cause he also had that piece of character I believe). Anyway, Kay McAbee does remind me of my granddad sitting at his piano and playing. He couldn't read sheet music, he'd just walk through a place, hear a piece of music if he liked it and played it on his piano without even practising, he must have already figured it out in his mind. Now I can play music but not like that..... And this video of Kay McAbee is one of my UA-cam's very favourites. Rest in Peace, hope you'll meet my granddad somewhere up there. :)
I could listen to this forever
Absolutely wonderful. What a man!
What’s not to love about this performance and theatre organs? GREAT!!!
Sad to hear of his passing but I am, indeed, envious of his playing; an unfulfilled dream.
How can you thumb down this guy. What a great sound. Very Dixon like
Thank you for such a wonderful rendition of a long time favorite song. Furthermore, thank you for showing how to play a theatre organ. That is a dying talent.
People have made some really amazing things...this is definitely one of them.
Hearing the grand sound of this organ helps us to remember him. Some theatre organ videos shows how the organist would raise and lower the console. As the way KETC movie narrator Jim Kurtcher would put it, Kay McAbee really hasn't gone away. Not for those who loved him.
Always make me feel like I'm watching a funny cartoon on a cozy couch..
Wonderful! What a talent!!!
A fitting tribute to an Amazing Artist.....RIP !!
You are such a talented organist! Very much my new role model!
I still get chills & excited every time I see & hear these magnificent instrumental beasts! I feel like a little kid again, sitting in the front row in the theater right next to the.console, just so I could watch the organists work their musical magic.
love it!
I really love the sound of this fantastic organ, and Kay McAbee's performance is fabulous.
Wow!!!! That’s amazing! I love this music and the organ!!!
Without a question very well played and a great instrument.
killer diller man, just great
Simply lovely!
Absolutely fantastic!!! Damn, wish I could play like that!! I could sit and watch this guy ALL DAY LONG NON STOP!!!!!! Unbelievable talent!!!! God bless you!!!
You and me both, Shawn! :-) This is pricless!!
I love it when he goes "psycho crazy" in the last part of the song. The most deluxe organ version of "tea for two" I've ever heard!!
I have really enjoyed listening to this delightful musical presentation, from a very accomplished and fine musician that really knows how to play the theater organ.
Authentic sounds that are the real thing, amazing and beautiful.
WOW, I could listen to him play all day fantastic, its a shame to loose someone with that much talent. Mr. McAbee RIP. Love you music. Bernie
A truly amazing music man!
This was the main 5 manual console of the former Roxy Theater in New York. It was flanked on both sides by two 3 manual consoles. All 3 could be played at the same time and were drawing from the same organ pipes. The Roxy also had another Kimball pipe organ in a seperate studio for radio broadcasting as well as a Kimball player pipe organ in the mezzanine. Those were the days.
An interesting side note was the fact that this organ never really sounded as good as it should have in the main theater auditorium because the pipes were under the stage so that when the orchestra pit was raised it ended up muffling all lot of the sound.
Whatever became of that interesting creation?
Everything went down with the building except this console and, supposedly, a few ranks of pipes. The auditorium organ had 34 ranks. The lobby organ was a 3/14 with Artiste player, and the radio studio had a 2/8.
Another interesting fact was that the organ's chimes (its only set) were massive (probably J. C. Deagan) tower chimes, with two sets of shutters: one into the auditorium and another leading outside! I don't know if they were ever played outside, but supposedly they could be. There was also a Fanfare or Echo above the proscenium with a few high-pressure reed ranks (and a band fife, though this was registered as "fanfare" it was in one of the under-stage chambers).
Phil Maloof has both the NYC Roxy console and the Chicago Stadium's six-manual Barton console in his hope, playing pipes, though I don't know how many ranks.
Years ago I read a claim that the Roxy was supposed to have FIVE consoles on the main organ: 5/3/3/2/2. But now I can neither find that reference, nor has anyone I've located heard it. Have you? Is my mind playing tricks on me?
It seems I can't edit my comment, but I just remembered: the "Artiste" was Moller's roll-player. The Kimball system was the "Soloist."
The 8’ Fanfare Trumpet voiced on 25” survived.
A wonderfully creative heart wrenching performance - thank you Kay !
Great to hear these sounds again. You don't hear much like this these days, unfortunately. the sound is so much more human than the electronic organs of today. I like the old numbers too!
This Organ is a real art... and the music is great! thanks!
A real keyboard warrior.wonderful music
It's indescribably beautiful, it's like the fourth of July
Never heard of Kay McAbee before. Now off to search through youtube for more. Nicely played in a traditional style.
i'm not not sure new technologies can bring something beauty like this
Yes it can, but manually played is always better
Unfortunately with digital technology they can, but never the human touch or ability to improv. This old guy knew how to bang down those ivories. If it doesn't have throbbing tibias - it isn't a Wurlitzer.
robert shaw it isn't a Wurlitzer
@@mrmaniac3 this organ is a bitsa... pipework from many makers, Wurlitzer included.
I love this music !!!
What a beautiful organ. Great player as well. Thanks for sharing.
Nothing like old music I love it this performance was Brilliantly performed by this young man.! I hope he is still going. Brilliant performance. Greetings from Canada! Patrick. a tyros 3 player and singer.
Unbelievable that was incredible
If I had a place for this, I'd have one, too. Love the pipe organ.
Bravo Bravo Bravo !!!! Where has the magnificence of this beautiful instrument gone ? ...I could listen all day .Thank you so much Mr McAbee
I think a 41-year old mystery has been solved. In 1971, a speech prof and professional recordist gave me a rell tape of an unknown organist playing a Wurlitzer in a home in San Francisco. The homeowner had a basement that extended into the side of a hill, and in the "cave" he had the organ. The organist did "Tea-for-Two," just about exactly as this youtube video. I now believe Kay McAbee is the mystery organist on the tape. The music on the tape is superb.
Hermoso organo...veo la pantalla atras que te indica los acoles de intrumentos..genial .saludos desde argentina!!!
Great playing, fun arrangement and amazing instrument. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Just amazing!
That final resolve @ 0.20 made the hairs on my arms stand up. Wonderful.
Just right acoustics to house this wonderful sounding organ. Great playing as well.
RIP great man Kay 💕💓❤
wonderful maestro !!
Amazing organ and organist. Thank you for posting..
you rock grandpa, keep going!
A Kimball - a very rare organ. Aside from the quality of their pipes, the chest action was about the fastest and most efficient of any ever built. I wonder if they use the original switching system or the replaced it with electronics. These theater organists have a great mastery of registration and dexterity in handling the organ
Absolutely wonderful! Great arrangement and performance. Thank you for posting!
AMAZING you sir are the organ god keep it up !!
He passed away some time ago :(
A Yay for Kay! Great! Well played.
pure magic when he came up from the basement playing and had a sing song at the interlude
Go Kay!! So cool. Thanks Guy!
Kay was one of the best and is still sorely missed.
Świetny. Chyba całe życie spędził przy klawiszach! Deformacja zawodowa!
Amazing organ and arrangement! OH listen to those tibias and brasses, the glockenspiel and xylophone or vibes,
LOVE THEM
Big respect!
LOVE IT!
Highly effective playing by Mr. McAbee; notice how he doesn't routinely play ahead of the beat, as so many people in his position generally do; he plays ON the beat only shifting it around for the necessary effect at the right time; a true musician.
ooh all the hairs on me arms stood up at the end there
The champion of champions.music heaven
Completely Outstanding!
Steam-punks seriously need to get in on this.
I agree with you on that
great sound...no more to be found...thanks for sharing this.
This is the coolest thing i've ever seen 😍
