have thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to this young man, (once again) I, now 87, visited the place a few times… with fond and happy memories … 👍👍👍
I lived in Eastbourne for over 30 years and used to go onto the pier and listen to organists. Not sure if I've seen John or not. I also remember as a young boy going to the ABC Minors shows every Saturday and watching/listening intently to the organist on the amazing Wurlitzer organ. What a gorgeous sound and still my favourite organ to listen to by a country mile! Well played, John.
Oh my, this is very special. John Mann brought out every feature of the wonderful organ. Such a shame it is not currently available to play. I loved “Jealousy” for the superb registrations and sensitive playing and “The Clock Store” for demonstrating some of the toy counter. Most of all, the entire concert brought tears of joy to my eyes, triggering memories of another era.
An amazing walk, back in time, the Wurlitzer is undoubtedly, one of the best, musical pieces of equipment, it’s soul destroying, how they, have been fazed out.
The State had room for 4000 people waiting inside the building as well as 4004 seats, so could hold 8004, which is why it’s bigger than either of the Greens playhouses
What a wonderful step-back in time John. Just along the coast from you near Eastbourne. I love your music and loved your 80th at the National. Best wishes from David.
Hello, I don't expect you to remember me, but if you are the same John Mann that I knew when I lived in Woodingdean with my grandparents at the local grocery shop what a surprise to catch up with you after a lifetime. I am just coming up to my 80th birthday, so I am enjoying the music you are playing on the Wurlitser organ. My mother, when she was alive told me that you were a professional musician but I never thought I would get to hear you. How nice it is to at long last to achieve this. I hope you get to see this comment, keep up the lovely music.
Perhaps you can get your lovely message seen by John himself on his own UA-cam channel, that is simply his name. Here is a video of him playing just a few weeks ago on his home Eminence Organ on that channel. Title of video: *John Mann in playing mood, hidden cam recorded John for a few minutes on the Eminent Organ*
Those toe pistons aren't original - or at least they don't appear to be to me. It's a truly superb organ, which I and my Father had the privilege and pleasure to play way, way back in the late 1960s. Such happy memories of a world that seemed much saner than is today's. Best wishes to you all. Peter A :) :) :)
@@jacobwoods8738 Hi Jacob. Many thanks indeed for taking the trouble to leave that very interesting comment, I had no idea that the console had ever left the building. It was still on its rotating lift on the right side of the stage when I and my Father 'played' it. Kindest regards, Peter A :) :) :)
I remember hearing that this console is very rare in the fact it was a one-off manufactured for the narrow rotation lift it is smaller than others, giving it a skinny odd look? Sadly, this organ is not used anymore and is just left covered over a real shame!
@@Mike-kc8rl Yes, what you write is indeed accurate. As far as I know the building now houses a 'church' which isn't well disposed to those who would wish to see, play and hear the organ in services - let alone concerts. As you rightly say, it's a real shame, and the loss of such a beautiful organ in its original location is more than regrettable. Maybe some day common sense will prevail - we can but hope. Best wishes and kindest regards, Peter A
Such a shame that this organ console now sits on the floor and. I thought that listing meant no major alterations! is the lift actually still in situ? I used to love seeing the console revolve as it came up with organist playing his/her signature tune.
I will correct John here, Kilburn wasn't the largest cinema in the UK. That title goes to Greens Playhouse in Glasgow with 4,368 seats, 364 more than Kilburn.
@@davidneale7202 Greens Playhouse in Glasgow had a 3000-capacity ballroom above the cinema, 3 cafes with a capacity of 1400, and waiting rooms with a capacity of 1300, bringing the capacity of the building to 10,068
Magnifique , merci MONSIEUR l’organiste .

John Mann one of the best, always enjoyed him when he came to our club way back in the 70s, thank you John👏👏👏👏💕🥰
I have just watched this with my 85 year old father, and all the music and memories brought him to tears 🥹
Thank you so much for sharing this. xx

What a treasure of a video, aside from the Wurlitzer, the history of the building is absolutely fascinating. Many thanks.

John's skills are superb. it's always in balance... tempo/sound/intonation/chords..
Love John's playing
Congratulations John you are the Mann! God bless You. I enjoyed your performance and love for organs. I love organs as well. 🖐🦵
Brilliant loved it Thank You
Like his little sailor party trick @ 2:11 to the sailor theme
Just great! Loved it, John!
John has a truly interesting and versatile repertoire. Anyone who can play the cinema organ this well is worthy of great admiration!
The first time I saw a Worlitzer was at the the Odean Newcastle on Tyne in the 40s💕
Just beautiful, what a telent.

I believe they date from the console’s removal to Turner’s. When it returned and was relocated off the lift, these pistons appeared.

The film was entertaining with Mr Cholmondely-Warner narrating.
I love hearing John play! I was wondering when this video was filmed?

It was always very unreliable, nothing worse than getting half way or down when playing
