So nice to see such a young rider who knows his bike inside and out, that’s one beautiful build, it was such a pleasure listening to him gush over his bike as I would do the same, love the rim brakes!
I have rim brakes on all four of my bikes! I have two vintage MTBs and two vintage road bikes. Rim brakes work fine for me and the riding I do, so I can't see the need to switch.
Great bike, and personally I feel like disc brakes is simply tech the industry is telling everyone they NEED. I find disc brakes on TT bikes to be absolutely comical. Unless you're TT'ing in the rain more often than not, you don't even want to touch the brakes.
I got a new road bike this year and was glad they released CAAD13 framesets as rim brake, and also in a gorgeous blue. I work as a mechanic, so I have to do all my own maintenance or else my work buddies will make fun of me. Don't get me wrong. I have disc on my gravel bike and the confidence of hydro brakes flying down windy dirt roads has vastly improved my riding. However, I never want a brake bleed, rotor issue, or whatever to be between me and a ride.
Man of the culture! I made a video summarising Rim Brake bikes one can still buy in 2023, missed this one, will have to add it to the next list. Good on Dolan for still offering the superior braking system.
Long live the rim brake : very low to none maintenance cost, very lightweight, no additional rotational weight and still GREAT stopping power without squeaking ❤
Absolutely love that bike, I've got one also, same colour . . . love my bike, but I have different wheels and crank, Ultegra di2. Rides fantastic and I love rim brakes. My older bike was from Terry Dolan also, they make fantastic frames.
Totally agree on the brakes. If I ever need the additional stopping power of disk, I'd be in over my head anyway. I'll take the lower cost, ease of maintenance and lighter weight.
@@JoshuaTootell Agree. My MTB is disc, you never know when you are going to go through some little steam as you are bombing downhill. But on the street, knowing that wet rim brakes are an issue, I just drag them a bit to get the rims dry and I'm good to go.
Dolan!!! 👍 I own 2021 Dolan ADX Titanium Ultegra RIM BRAKES. 25mm GP5000. Easy change pads. I always check rims. Important. Coz on my hydraulics DB MTB I NEVER check rims.
Disk breaks definitely on a winter bike ,but if you got a summer bike it’s not worth it ,the latest shimano callipers r7000 and upwards they are very responsive indeed
Love this bike - practical, rim brake and pro-race - excellent ps. If you ever get a puncture on a disc bike during a race you are done & race wrecked !! The only question on my mind is whether this is a rebranded Chinese Pinarello replica - the so-called 'Chinarello' - it looks very much like an F12 / F series bike. (Made in China ? Painted in the UK ?) Frame tested as safe ?
I don’t doubt they are made in China or Taiwan just like every other big name. Dolan has been around for quite some time already. I had a track Dolan in the early 2000 I remember, they are a very reputable brand and I’m sure their carbon bikes go through quality control as they should. They wouldn’t risk it.
Nice I like the fact you still feature rim brakes .. they say move on .. I say hay my rimbrake bike is still smashingly good a lot better and a lot by a mile cheaper :)
Both my bros went disc in the last month. Guess who's the mechanic.. these dudes are gonna have to start paying me. I refuse to go disc until I absolutely have to.
excellent- but I am finding it harder to source old Shimano here in Canada, no Di crap for me and all the good stuff is embargo'd off shore online it seems
Nice bike with rim brakes Ed! Discs are ridiculous on road bikes and just show how far some people will go to follow fashion and comply with the marketing snake oil. You still have the same rubber on the road whatever you use, but common sense has gone out of the window, just to show off and make your bike heavier in the process.
Really depends on your riding style. There is a good argument to detach the braking surface from the area where your tires hook in. It's probably not much of a difference if you are not riding much in the rain or much downhill, though.
I have the same bike rim brakes are still lighter than disk, okay they may take a few inches more to stop. the only comparison i have seen, is top of the range disk to entry level rim.
Pretty sure these brakes can clear 28mm, also looks that way in the shots of the rear brake. I wonder if the seat tube clearance or something else was rubbing and not the brakes
It's perfectly logical - what better way to make the rim brake bike you're happy with now instantly seem obsolete? In a world where so many are eager to buy whatever their hero races on, this planned obsolescence scheme is brilliant! Ya gotta have hydraulic/electronic/plastic/tubeless or you're a hopeless nobody!!!
Not really? I grew up riding disc brakes on my mtb full Suss bikes, and on my old rim brake road bikes I’ve always noticed that the rim brakes simply didn’t have the same amount of control over sheer stopping power when you need to jam the brakes (eg, when taking corners on a downhill and you build up speed, and slam the brakes as late as you can to make the turn). Rim brakes simply can’t stop with as much linear control compared to disc brakes. It’s a fact, unless you wish to rewrite the rules of physics.
@@slowcyclist4324I would never slam the brakes before a turn, on road tyres you don't have the contact patch to use that technique with enough safe margin and I'm not racing anyone anyway on a downhill on an open road. So for any other use rim brakes give you a lighter, simpler and more reactive bike.
Has a race ever been won because disc brakes are being used and, similarly, has a race been lost because rim brakes were been used? Do we really need disc brakes? I'm appalled how the manufacturer's are, basically, cancelling rims.
Yes they do. Veloschils in marks tey near Colchester in Essex build them and they are bloody cheap!! All rim brake and look very similar to the merida 5000 without the discs you get to pick every component.
Disc brakes (and tubeless tyres for that matter) only make sense on road bikes if you have a team car following you at all times with a spare bike. Other than that, forget it.
@@stibra101 lol, hardly. I'm 49 and I've been riding and racing bikes since the late eighties. I have owned many, many rim brake bikes and currently own many disc brake bikes. I haven't seen a high end rim brake bike in shops here for at least four years. Rim brakes for the win in 2023.
Best and honest bike review I have seen. Glad to hear that the rider knows everything about his bike, all the way down to the smallest of details.

I was a little amused by associating a BMW "bike" with rim brakes. Even the drums on my R69 aren't really sufficient

rim brakes and classic drop bars, love to see it
