I was 9years old when thus came out...
around '79 or '80
These were the 1st songs We were hearing in The Bronx...
Party songs🎉...
The Emcee's getting the crowd hype(in the place)🎆🎊🎉
little Community Centers usually..
A Classic song!!🏆
Positive K. - i got a man using the same sample.
You were right when you said it was "A Taste Of Honey". The song's "Rescue Me" but as usual for Sugarhill Records it's a replayed version by their great in house group. Songs like this are what hooked me on Hip Hop back in the early 80s as i was already a huge Jacksons fan so these sort of records were in the same sort of light funkiness. Thanks for the video and i'm glad you liked the song
In editing, I checked to see what the sample was. I had almost convinced myself that is was Best of My Love by The Emotions
Im from the bronx. I see them all the time usually at Crotona park events. Legendary indeed.
That's so awesome!
They used to make them long in those days! A few other old school classics:
Younger Generation - We Rap More Mellow
Grandmaster Melle Melle & The Furious Five - Beatstreet Breakdown
Fresh 3 Emcees - Fresh
Whodini - Nasty Lady
Thanks! We Rap More Mellow was the only one currently on my list; and I added the others.
Sha-Rock may not have been the first woman to ever pick up a mic but she is credited to be the first female MC on vinyl and was widely respected for her skill. Ironically her biggest contribution to the history of hip hop can be found on someone else's record. Run DMC listened to a tape of hers and were so blown away by her use of an echo chamber to make her rhymes sound more powerful that they decided to adapt that technique...and it arguably was a big part of what made them so popular.
Thanks for the history, Fabian!
I miss fun hip-hop songs, rappers have gotten too gangster or rap about serious stuff. Kid n Play was a fun hip-hop duo, "Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody" was a good one. I think this is the first time hearing this, I've heard some rappers sample the "It's the joint" part.
Thanks, Auntoneyo! I'll add that song to my list.
One of my favorites. Yes I am old school lol
Great question. As an old head, I like the hard shit, but if there’s one thing that has been missing from hip hop for about the last 25 years is just fun hip hop. I don’t understand how fun hip hop got phased out. The last fun hip hop groups that I can recall was the alkoholiks, Jurassic 5, camp lo…all late 90’s and early 200’s. Maybe Little Brother in that era. I don’t see any major acts picking up that mantle. Maybe coast contra today. I would think there would be a big market for more of the fun shit.
I think you can put Busta and Missy on that list, too. As for today's hip hop, I don't know much but you'd think someone could make a killing with fun/dancy hip hop.
Agreed. I forgot to mention those 2 artists and do love them for how fun they are.
I'm my opinion, Boy Bands, Pop Music, Racism and Crunk killed Fun/Party style Hip-hop.
These earlier hip hop on this area also live musicians on these recordings
Wild to think about it, right? Does anyone do that anymore?
@ABoomerReacts maybe a few the last artists I can think of is the roots. The have actual live musicians.
There is a verse on here that the mc says I’m machine gun Kelly and that’s where machine gun Kelly got his name from
Thanks for the fun fact!
There was some "gansta" stuff before NWA, like Schoolly D (ua-cam.com/video/fQc4A-XBzBY/v-deo.html) and such it was always simmering in the background.
Thanks, Fred! I remember hearing his name in this context.
Pumpkin was the Dr. Dre of his time 🐐💯
Check out The Crash Crew “ on the radio” I think they had better songs than most of these foundational Artist but this was dope also
Thanks! I'll put it on my list.
The Rap of the 80s to about '95 was diverse.
Not so much anymore
