Why do we always watch these videos at night when we are hungry?
lol~~
LOL It's night time now and I'm hungry!
Because we are implicitly masochistic? lol
I watch then in the morning to get the idea of what to cook today but also hungry haha
I made it and my friends and I enjoyed it tremendously. I made sweet potato mash and had cranberry sauce (yankee style). Thanks
Great video! I would recomend you to try to fry the onions until soft in butter and also mix the breadcumbs and milk/cream in a separate bowl to let them ”swell” or soak up the milk. For a more traditionel take 😄😄
/swede
Thank you! It may not be traditional but I am going to switch out some of the spices and add some herbs.
Thanks for the tips I will give that a try next time I make them 👍😊
Simon Wilson, that is a great idea about frying the onions a bit and soaking the bread crumbs.
I agree the onions needed to be a bit softer. Could still feel their crunch in the finished dish
This Swede agrees. Also please use butter instead of oil, especially olive oil doesn't exist in the traditional Swedish kitchen.
Top tip - wet your hands before rolling the meatballs - it makes them easier to roll and none of it sticks to your hands.
Great tip thanks for sharing, I'll give that a try next time.
So the secret to a good Swedish gravy is English Worcestershire sauce, French mustard and Chinese dark soy sauce. :)
Hahaha! Well done, you! 😆
Apparently so. Who knew?
@@luke125 NO
I have never seen a recipe with soy sauce but yeah pretty much. My question is where the turks fit in.
Lol!!!!
I'm Swedish! Your meatballs looks really delicious!. A tip (and the traditional way) is to fry the onions in butter until they are golden brown before adding to the mixture. Makes the meatballs much better!
Thanks for the tips!
I lived in Sverige about 2 years.kotbular one of the best dishes with some silstrom)
As a novice cook I appreciate your showing what a gentle simmer looks like
Add a pinch of coffee to the gravy for a richer taste.
That's one tiny innovation my grandmother did for my mum, which she has passed down to me.
To what?
@@devikaphukan_official To the gravy. Forgot to add.
How neat! Thanks!
That sounds incredibly interesting! I'll try!!
@@benjaminjane93 instant coffee or ground coffee?
Made this dish for my mom, sister and bro-in-law tonight and it was a big hit!
Made some minor changes, mostly based on comments by others on this post. 1. I sauteed the onions before adding to the meat. 2. I soaked the panko crumbs in the milk, prior to adding to the meat. 3. To the sauce I eliminated the salt and used low sodium beef stock. It sucks getting older, lol! 4. and, I added that pinch of coffee to the sauce, and yes, it did make a difference!
And my final thought... as much as I liked the Lingonberry Jelly, I thought the cost of it was a bit much when compared to whole berry Cranberry Sauce, which really, is not too far off the mark!
Thanks for a great recipe!
Awesome thanks so glad you enjoyed it :)
@Megumi Yes... I used instant coffee as the flavoring agent. It dissolves nicely but still gives you that bit of coffee flavor you are looking for. Again, I only used a pinch. Too much will overpower the dish.
@Megumi Thank Benjamin Bjärnhag for the tip... I got it from him!
i like to read comment when people share thank you sir. i will try too the same way you
I was just thinking cranberry sauce
Just made these tonight. Perfection! Didn't have pork, so used beef only. Didn't have vegetable stock, so used chicken stock instead. I also used my original frying pan to make the sauce, deglazing it to not waste all that flavor. The mix of spices was just perfect, and the sauce just delicious with a beautiful presentation. Thank younso much!
Just made this, it tastes so similar to the ikea meatballs, it was SO good!! Thank you! My mom loved it too :) I fried the onions and garlic (separately) in butter beforehand, and also soaked the bread crumbs in milk before mixing it all together, like some of the comments said .... and it was delicious!! Super soft and juicy, and flavorful. Thank you for the recipe
Looks so delicious. I really enjoy the way your videos are made. I'm not all that handy in the kitchen, so I appreciate how clearly you lay the process out, and how friendly your presentation is. I just subscribed and hit the notification bell. I also appreciate the comments from others. Thanks so much for sharing!
I have made a couple of your dishes now and both have been a hit with the family. Just decided to subscribe as I love the simplicity of your delivery and the fact that you don’t labour over the preparation in the videos. They are enough information and to the point, and most importantly, show the delicious results! Most people know the cooking basics anyway, so I appreciate that you don’t labour the process. I’ve always bought the IKEA sauce, ( my kids love it), but it’s great that I can re-create them without all the additives. Thank you. By the way, cooking your Tuscan Chicken recipe tonight. Love it!
Hey, as a swede - pretty good. Made me soooo hungry. My granny used to nag me to swell the starch and breadcrumbs (you can also use oatmeal and breadcrumbs) in the milk 15-20 min before, which will make the balls easier to fry. Also, I recommend you try making tiny meatballs one day. The outside will crisp up more and the meatballs will have more flavour. xoxo

I love that you use both the metric and standard measurements. Thanks for that!
We are supposed to have a snow storm tomorrow, and this will be the perfect cozy food! I even have all the ingredients on hand! I really like these videos. Short, beautiful and to the point!
Meatballs look really good, but your production quality is five ⭐️
I appreciate that!
It's like i'm watching food network 😂
That recipe looks absolutely delicious. Thank you so much. I look forward to trying it! My mouth was watering watching you put it all together.
I happen to come across your channel. I really like the esthetics of everything. including how the video was edited. Watching your video, It kept me engaged and it looked as if everything smelled so good. Thank you for sharing this video. I can tell a lot of work went into this. BTW your kitchen looks amazing!
Being mathematicians, electrical engineers, and physicists ... I'm not sure how I ended up here ... but really glad I did. I think you propose a good chemistry experiment here that we will be doing! Wow that looks good. Thank you. Cheers!
Making this for the 30 residents in my resthome at wrk today. With creamy mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli and carrots. Thank you for yr recipes. They're simple fast and very tasty.
Okay.. finally got round to making this. Legit the best meatballs I’ve had. I sautéed the onions as per some recommendations on here. Very happy partner! Will become a regular :) thank you! Xxx
I made these last night for dinner and wowzers, they were amazing ! Now, I know my way around a kitchen some, so I made meatballs out of beef only - just my personal preference. Everything else done just like KS told me too. I like my meat well done, so I had some good stuff in the pan to enhance the sauce. The sauce - good lord, you could put that sauce on an old shoe, and it would be incredible. I followed the perfect instructions from KS, and IT. COULD. NOT. HAVE. TURNED. OUT. BETTER ! That sauce could qualify for "last meal" kinda level. Thank you KS, this one goes into steady dinner rotation. Are you married ? x
One last thing, instead of serving over mashed taters, I served it over wide, egg noodles. Fantastic
One more thing - Now that I've read other comments coming from the crazy swedes - I had no crunchy onions, just use your normal common sense when cooking trinity, and a roux. I did saute some baby bella mushrooms in the sauce. They weren't crunchy either - I cooked them long enough. FANTASTIC !

Thank you! I don’t eat pork and was wondering how they would turn out without it 🥰
I come back to this video everytime I want to make this recipe.
Trying this tonight, finally. We had Sweadish meatballs growing up. Can't wait to make this for my beloved.
I made it for dinner today and it was a big hit!! I'll be saving this. Thank you for sharing ❤️
I made this Nicky! it was sooo yummy!! Now my family wants this once a week 😃
thank you for giving measurements and oven temp in both British and American, makes it so much easier than having to convert everything!
I learned something here. I did not know that Dijon mustard, soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce were Swedish ingredients. You learn something new every day!
We never have mustard in that sauce. And we don't put the meatballs back in the sauce eiter. We use cream in the sauce.
Omg the oven door slides under the oven!!! I want one like that toooo!!!
I think most of us went 😯 when we saw that oven door slide out! 😆
Ok Tracy
Start playing the lottery
Need make an oven with the slide away door, but it costs £400 more than a regular oven! That's a lot of money for a sliding door.
NEFF not need!
Made this for my wife and puppies. It’s two thumbs up and two paws high five. This recipe is absolutely delicious. Will be trying more of your recipes in the near future.👍👍🦮🦮
Fantastic!
Do not feed your dogs onion or garlic. They can cause gastrointestinal irritation which can lead to red-blood cell damage and anemia (according to the ASPCA).
Just a note, dogs and onions can be a fatal mix, it can cause anaemia in dogs so be careful, I wouldn’t want you or your dogs to find out too late
Ps, recipe looks great, I will be trying it but the dogs can have a non-onion version!
@@royfeely7145 The dog has to eat about .5% of their body weight or 100 grams of onion to 20 kilograms to reach toxicity levels. In the grand scheme of things, it works out, say, for a 45 lb dog, a medium - large onion. That's a lot of onions. Look up onion toxicity levels in dogs.
I just made this for dinner and OMG it was delicious. Best recipe for Swedish meatballs on the Internet. Thank you!
Thanks for the recipe! In order to get an even more flavour packed meatball, my grandmother thought me to first boil them in a chicken broth until they come floating on top. Let them cool down in the fridge overnight, and then quickly brown them on a high heat pan using salted butter. As a sauce, we use a sour cherry sauce. Delicious!
My kids asked for Swedish Meatballs today. Was going to buy frozen meatballs but I’m going homemade! Thank you. Looks delicious!
Hope you enjoy
Beautiful recipe! I used 2 lbs of ground meat mostly pork but it turned out great. Definitely going to continue making this maybe double the sauce it was so good on egg noodles!
I just found you and I am so happy!!!! your recipes are so clear and easy to follow. You are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
Made this yesterday. It was fabulous! 👏🏽💯🤩 Loved both meatballs, & the delish gravy. THANK YOU! 👏🏽🙌🏽
Made it today! Omg so delicious! Thank you for the recipe!!
Really enjoyed watching this! As a Swede I would say that the IKEA recipe of the ”Swedish meatballs” is definitely not the best one out there though, as it is a bit simplified. With that said, I thought you did a great job here, it looked delicious, and I think you ”amped up” their version. For instance, I don’t think IKEA has allspice in theirs, which is essential from my perspective. Adding Worcestershire sauce in the gravy is a big plus too! Usually some kind of sweetener is added to the gravy, like a little pinch of sugar or a small spoon of the lingon berry jam. But I guess every Swede has their own family recipe, so there really is no right or wrong here. Subscribed and will keep on following your channel! /The Swede
I agree! My grandpa was Swedish and my version is different. Still looks tasty though.
I’m Swedish and I would say this is pretty authentic. Definitely better than IKEAs version. I like the ratio between beef/pork mince. I personally use the same ratio but I think a lot people here goes for 50/50 ratio mostly bc most supermarkets have pre-mixed mince.
No hesitations Nicky. This one is on the menu tonight...nearly 2 years after you posted it😋. I'm a fairly new subscriber, so I'm just seeing it. There is nothing like a meat and potatoes comfort dish. I thank you for this one my friend
Just made this my whole family 4 kids and husband lived it! Thank you
Wow that was awesome receipt so tasty everybody in our home loved it
Something that seems to help is mixing all the ingredients prior to adding it to the meat. The more you mix the meat the tighter it becomes. Very similar to how sausage and hotdogs are different yet the same concept.
Brilliant , no mucking around time for me to get bored! Thank you
Wonderful recipe and tutorial. This will be our New Years Eve dinner. Thank you and Happy New Year!
In Sweden we call that Pannbiff a completely different dish!
You have the most beautiful kitchen... so jealous.
omg, I love the way your oven door works
Just tried this recipe and we're mindblown! How very delicious! Thank you for creating this video. It's our new favourite!
Your recipes are fantastic and you get on with it which is great. Its hard work watching someone peel 8 large potatoes from begining to end😀
Thanks so much 😊
This is really great!
Just a tip, next time pre-soak the breadcrumbs with milk. They get juicier then.
Also mix the onion and then fry it in a pan with some butter and then mix it all together. The onion gets better taste when fried first and also you skip the large bites of onion when mixing it ☺️ fry in a pan with sunflower oil and lots of butter. And the sauce put some white pepper in it and the secret ingredient that make this sauce is delicious, some black currant jelly
Anything else?🤦🤣
I am going to make these and I loved how you presented how to make them. Looks so yummy!!
Swedish. meatballs are very tasty. I am Swedish and I recommend this recipe to everyone. If you are a parent, I think you should cook this meal because you will be loved by your children. in Sweden you have this as a children's menu at restaurants. You could say this is Sweden's national food.

I looked at all the delicious recipes and had to hit that bell!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Just made the sauce with some pre-made meatballs. Loved the sauce! Just added pinch more mustard and worsteshere, but still amazing either way!
Hi, I scored some italian meatballs, which I just have to cook, and your sauce seems perfect for them. You showed just what I needed to cook this meal, thanks!
I love all your recipes there so warm and comforting
in sweden we pretty much allways use 50/50 beef and pork, and cook the onions first, but your way works fine aswell, also we dont use mustard in the sauce, and i dont think iv ever seen anyone eat it with broccoli, we usually have it with pickled cucumber,
@Megumi in sweden its served with green peas at ikea
In Australia IKEA serves it with steamed green beans so it looks like it picks up a slight local flavour wherever it lands😁
How mouth-wateringly delicious does that look. Thanks for sharing, this will be my next meal to make
Can’t wait to make it tomorrow night. Bought some minced meat today - looked for a recipe and here it is. Had some IKEA meatballs before and they were always so tasty 😋. Thank you for sharing this recipe. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 😊👍
These were delicious! I made a double batch of the sauce and put it in my slow cooker...then added one bag of frozen meatballs (sorry) and let it go for 4 hours...and it was fabulous and very rich! This will be going to my next pot luck! Thank you!
Wonderful recipe, but I'm loving the photography even more! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! 😊
@@Kitchensanctuary can I eat with rice
Gosh these looked amazing, I could practically taste them 😋
I’ll have to make them now! Thank you for sharing 👏🏻
Here comes a Swede: the more stuff you add into the mix - some add ginger - the better the meatballs. Great köttbullar you made sweet lass, proud of you, I'm getting hungry! You cannot get those that good at IKEA really :)
That looks so scrumptious I will definitely have to try the recipe I was introduced to swedish meatballs years ago and have not had that taste since fell in love and I'm definitely going to try the recipe definitely with some smashed potatoes or over some rice or over some noodles indeed thank you for the upload
*DOUBLE CREAM SUBSITUTE:*
1 tbsp Cornstarch + 1/2 cup Milk
Thank you Moka. As a bachelor and a lazy 'illiterate' cook, this will save me the 'nuisance' of having to go and buy cream as and when required (which is seldom).
Also better for those on a low fat diet for health reasons!
Just made (and quickly ate because it was so good.. ;) - OUTSTANDING! Thanks for the video and printable recipe!
Glad you liked it!!
Wow! You really are fantastic! Very grateful for your recipes and easy to follow instructions.
Delicious! my mouth is already watering! The accurate ingredient measurements you gave, will help me. It looks fantastic. I'm trying to cut down on meat, but I must try this once.
Cheers.
This was delicious! My family enjoyed it and came back for seconds. I will be making this again. Thank you for sharing your recipes Nicky.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks incredibly delicious!
I’m salivating like a cat
My swedish grandma mixed some cooked potato in the meatballs. She did the best meatballs ever
I usually eat Swedish meatballs over a bed of egg noodles. So yummy!
Kroger frozen home style meatballs. 2 jars of plain Ragu Alfredo (weird right?!), one packet of McCormick brown gravy, allspice, cinnamon, and clove. Make the gravy and then put it into the alfredo, add the seasonings to taste, blend and pour it over the frozen meatballs. Bake for 45 minutes at 350 and I assure you it tastes just like IKEA'S 😌

Hi, Just made this for dinner tonight. Went well. Thanks for your post.
Great to hear!
made this recipe for a friend and he loved it! Thank you.
Tried this last night delicious will definately be making again. So pleased I found your channel, love all your recipes Thank You.
I doubled the meatball recipe and froze half for another day. My husband always likes a lot of sauce, so I doubled that as well. He said he would have been happy just eating the sauce and rice!
Just made the dish for the second time. The first time I made it, the sauce turned out clumpy and the fat separated since I made it on a wok. The heat on the surface was probably more than what was needed lol. I learned from my mistake and made the sauce again in a pot which provided more control for the heat to be distributed. This time it turned out smooth. It was also so flavorful! My family really loved it. I also added a bit more soy sauce and mustard to my liking. Thank you for sharing this! :)
Top class. Result was delicious. Sauce is perfect as per recipe. Was pleasantly surprised. Add pre fried and cooled finely chopped onions to the meatball mix for extra moisture and taste.
Wow, simply incredible! Made these for supper tonight and got two thumbs up from the hubby. Thanks for sharing.
It’s 10pm and now I’m ravenous hungry!
Looks awesome, you're approved by the swedish jury 😉 A little tip my grandma taught me to get them incredibly juicy and tasty is to grate half of the onion, and also replace half of the milk with club soda. But again, those look delish!

Very well presented - great - I will make this today. Thank you!
Magnificent recipe! We haven't tried allspice in meatballs before, that was such an amazing idea! The only thing we make different when adding onion to meatballs, is grating the onion, to incorporate it easier. Also, your sauce is awesome, we loved the combination of soy-mustard-worcester with the cream and the Veloute sauce. Fantastic work!

Looks delicious. I usually fry the onions first with some salt and pepper, in butter. At the very end I use some sugar on the onions. Then mix it in with the meat. And always use butter for making meatballs, enhances the flavours even more. Just my take on it though. Nice video 😊👍
